Mother in law singing away.......2007-07-03
I made a lot of bonus points with my new mother-in law.
It has brought back a lot of memories for her. Great CD.
Thanks,
Scott
Wonderful Early Brenda Lee.......2007-04-20
I reccommend this product to anyone who was looking for themselves in the late 60's and early 70's. We were all looking for the fairy tale world and perfect love. It's a wonderful reminder.

Music from my Youth.......2007-01-15
It`s always nice to listen to good music connected to good memories.
Brenda Lee has this powerful, and soft voice that expresses the lyrics so brilliant!
There's no one like Brenda Lee.......2006-01-21
This CD represents Brenda Lee at the peak of her musical powers,1959-63. Her sweet, bluesy southern voice is truly unique.I feel guilty making this comparison but she, in my opinion,is the female " Elvis" when it comes to interpreting a song. The mark of a true artist is the ability to excel beyond musical catagory. You can't peg her simply in one of these buckets( country, blues, gospel,R&B,rock ). She incorporates elements of all these influences but mixes them up in a musical stew that is truly unique. What makes the CD a classic is a "perfect musical storm". First the artist, then the material, musicians and production values.
I discussed the artist, now lets explore briefly the other success factors.
1.Writers like Ronnie Self,Jerry Reed, Mel Tillis and( who would of thought) Jackie DeShannon.
2. A pure production genius /legend, Owen Bradley
3. The early sixties Nashville studio and the studio musicians to numberous to mention. This assemblage of talent during this period has never been replicated in Nashville. Again, we tend to bucket artists. in this case, as if musicians residing in Nashville are only capable of playing C&W. Nonsense, these musicians, like any true great, were more then capable of playing any musical genre.
Sadly, Brenda never captured the magic on a consistent basis following this period. There's a wealth of reasons why but this isn't the time or place. It's just important to reinforce Brenda Lee and the recordings contained on this CD are classic and timeless. That is the key element that defines any great art that it transends time. Thank you Brenda.
Rockabilly at its Best!.......2005-09-08
Brenda Lee shines like no other in this collection of hits....Careful selection and timeless melodies have proven a staying power for Brenda. Her songs ring as clear as they did in the 60's...If you like Brenda Lee, you'll love this collection!

Old favorites.......2007-06-28
Well done renditions of old favorites by established artists. These are gospels that everyone is familiar with and can sing along with them. Its a feel good experience.
Brenda Lee The Best.......2007-05-23
I thought the WHOLE cd was wonderful. Not only the first and last song the whole thing.
Brenda Lee still at her best!.......2007-05-12
Little Miss Dynamite's latest album is wonderful. She sings some great gospel songs with some really great artists. Some of the participants are Martina McBride, Allison Kraus, Kix Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, and Emmylou Harris. All the tracks are great, but a couple stand above the rest. They are the first and last on the album too. The duet with Dolly Parton "This Ole House" is wonderful, and it gets the album off to a great start. Then Huey Lewis helps Brenda close it with the excellent "Oh Happy Day." This album is definitely a must for fans of great music.
Miss Dynamite Exploding With Love for Her Lord.......2007-04-27
Prime Cuts: This Old House (with Dolly Parton), In the Garden (with Alison Krauss), I Saw the Light (with Vince Gill)
To hold a CD of newly recorded material by Brenda Lee is itself a miracle. Despite the copious re-recordings of her greatest hits, the last full -length studio CD by Miss Dynamite has been her 1991 eponymous Warner Brothers debut. After all these time, Lee has not lost a single iota of her textured and resonant voice that first awarded her the appellation "Miss Dynamite." Albeit this is a cover-album of 10 familiar hymns of the Christian church, Lee imbues each song with her unique emotional cadences that demands attention--something that will not disappoint fans who have had grown up with her lifelong stretch of hits. Much more impressive this time round is that Lee has sat comfortably on the producer's chair and her ability to garner 10 of Nashville's hottest artists to duet with her is staggering. This really testifies to what a commanding presence this former CMA multiple-winner still is in today's musical landscape.
Opener, "This Old House," is a compelling gospel number about the effect of Christ's second coming on our present life on earth. A track that grooves along an infectious melody, Dolly Parton and Lee sound on the top of their game. Sounding an octave higher than we are accustomed to, Parton beautifully echoes Lee in the chorus as if to affirm every syllable Lee is trying to articulate. Emmylou Harris, with her delicate and controlled falsetto, adds a matured but affirming presence to sparse unbridled ballad "Jesus Loves Me," making it simmer with an affecting palpability that bespeaks to not just kids but adults. While Vince Gill kicks off the sawdust a little by adding a spirited honky-tonk semblance to "I Saw the Light" that really gives the whole album a more uplifting feel. On the other hand, Alison Krauss' dreamy almost ethereal read gives "In the Garden" a contemplative tactility that makes this devotional call to walk, reflect and mediate on the Lord's even more engaging. A more surprising coadjutant is rock artist Huey Lewis who brings an almost fresh urgency to "O Happy Day" and his uncouth delivery (which calls to mind a little of Bryan Adams) certainly adds grit to this collection.
However, the major fault of such a covers of over-familiar hymns is the lack of imagination vis-à-vis through an almost pew-like rendition of them without much ingenuity from the artists. Though Martina McBride has formerly recorded an album's full of evergreens, her take of "Uncloudy Day" is so religiously faithful to the point of her dictation that it comes across as pedantic. Likewise, George Jones sounds so lazy and laidback that he seems to sniff out Lee's firey performance making "Have a Little Talk with Jesus" a long bore of a conversation. Even Ronnie Dunn, who usually is one of the most animated singers in country music, sounds sedated on "Where Could I Go But to the Lord." Perhaps due to Lee's unfamiliarity in the helm's chair, maybe a few less familiar choices might be the panacea. Further, after almost 16 years since her last disc, maybe a couple of originals might not be too much in the asking.
Overall, albeit the album's weaknesses, this CD is still a welcome return for Lee. With a disc full of today's hottest stars, this album attest to the respect the Music Row community still attributes to Lee. Rightly so--Lee does not disappoint all the way through these 10 paeans. Her grasp for the emotional fervor of each note coupled by her ability to bring to expression her heartfelt love for the Lord are reasons to crown this effort with superlatives such as "stellar" and "great." In short, she is still Miss Dynamite but this time exploding with a contagious affection for her Lord.

Good Collection.......2007-03-12
It is a definitive collection of her greatest hits, I was specifically interested in a couple of tracks Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree and My Whole World is Falling down that I had never had previously in my collection and these were both present as per original.
Best Singe Disc Brenda Set Available.......2006-04-26
Brenda Lee was a torch singer who could somehow project emotions she was too young to have ever really experienced. She represented music for and by teenagers and eventually gained a sophistication that allowed her to seque into a popular adult performer.
With 1957's "Dynamite," pint-sized 12-year-old Brenda Lee earned her nickname Little Miss Dynamite. Her first top-tenner, 1960's "Sweet Nothin's" - with confidential-sounding whispered intro, Boots Randolph's yakkety sax solo, and Lee's vocals shifting from gutsy to kittenish - set the stage for her becoming that decade's top-charting solo female singer.
As he did with her Decca labelmate Patsy Cline, producer Owen Bradley soon moved her music uptown with the sweet string sections on "I'm Sorry," Italian-based "I Want to Be Wanted" (her two pop chart toppers) and "Emotions" These recordings helped to establish the Countrypolitan/Nashville Sound.
Clear sounding and generous with 28 (mostly) chronologically sequenced 1957-79 tracks, The Definitive Collection pays more attention to Lee's country-flavored pop hits than to her early rockabilly sides. Only "Nobody Wins," "Big Four Poster Bed" and "Tell Me What It's Like" come from her roster of country hits. It also includes "Dum Dum," "Fool #1" and nursery-rhyme-inspired "My Whole World Is Falling Down." From 1964, "Is It True?" features a pre-Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page on electric guitar. We also get "Anybody But Me" and the bouncy "Your Used To Be" which weren't on her more thoroughly annotated 1991 two-volume Anthology (which is still the best domestic Lee set).
This is an excellent release of all her top 10 hits.,with great sound.Thank you universal........2006-01-14
The definitive collection of Brenda Lee,is a great album featuring, the best of her top 10 hits. The sound is terific.and as fresh as when her music was first released...You will love this album, and i highly recommend it..Thank you universal for all the great gold series releases...Now if you could speed up the release of many of your vhs movies to dvd in your vaults, you would make your customers even happier...Thank you Stewart L.
Best Re-Package I've Even Seen!.......2006-01-14
It's very clear that a lot of time, effort and money went in to this very upscale re-package of Brenda Lee's classic hit songs. It's truly a nostalgic journey from the fifties through the eighties. The often used expression, the "soundtrack of our lives," aptly describes the content. The excellent re-mastering of the tracks, the liner notes and great photos...well worth the purchase price. Looks like someone at Universal/MCA/Decca discovered their most valuable treasure - Brenda Lee. Maybe we'll start to see some re-issues of a veritable goldmine of unreleased material. This is truly a "DEFINITIVE COLLECTION."

Customer Reviews:
One of the All time BEST.......2007-01-04
I got this recording when it was first came out in vinyl record form. I absolutely love it! When I ran across a tape I had made from the record I popped it in the tape player and revisited the pleasure this recording originally gave me. I immediately wondered if it was on CD. I searched for it and was estatic that it was available! I am so happy to have a copy on CD. I would recommend it to anyone who prefers a melody and meaningful lyrics. There is no other like Carole Bayer Sager. She is unique as a person and hands down uniques as a singer/songwriter. The only problem is that she did not continue in music. This is music that makes you feel what she is singing. A++++++++++++++++++++
Carole's Uncanny Ability to Speak to the Heart..........2005-03-20
I stumbled across this LP in a used bookstore in Texas several years ago. Recognizing Carole's name crediting many, many songs that I have enjoyed listening to by other artists, I thought I would give it a listen to get a better sense of her own interpretation of her music.
Boy, I'm glad I did! What I found was music that speaks to the heart. Some of it, I found very difficult to listen to because it evokes such strong feelings. Profound ones at that, from the cautiously heartbreaking lyrics and music of "Aces" to the zaniness of "You're Moving Out Today", to the uncertainty and timid sound of "Shy as a Violet", there is something for everyone who holds the magic of Carole's prolific music career close to them.
Suprisingly, I have found it available on CD...and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who respects the power of great, emotive music with heart.
A must have album........2004-12-13
I bought this recently. Having had it on LP I had wondered if I would ever hear to this album again.
The availability and price held me back from buying it but it was well worth the wait.
Yes, her voice is not that great but it does not matter when you have beautiful words and melodies.
Consider the contributors to this album such as Peter Allen, Bette Midler, Madeline Khan, Paul Buckmaster, Marvin Hamlesh & many others. This is a must have album full of beautiful & entertaining songs.
Buy it now, you want be sorry.
Drew
Doesn't Get Any Better.......2003-09-25
This album is the best. Please buy it so Carole can get more royalties and maintain her lifestyle.
You've Gotta Put Yourself Back In That Spot.......2003-05-29
If you are familiar with this album, then you know it will carry you back to an uncomfortable young stage of your life where you thought you knew a lot, but you actually did not. There was someone you wanted to meet, but you were as shy as a violet. Later, after you managed to forge a relationship with that person, something (developing wisdom?) told you it really might be best to leave while you're in love, before you forget the meaning of the word -- and after things cratered, you seriously entertained thoughts of being dumb enough to steal away again.
If you were that age when you first heard it, you know it's a tear-jerker left over from those times that were so tender and meaningless, though heavy with the potential for romantic errors and worse. Save up the [$$$]and buy it, as an anthem to the relief of having all that inexperience behind you. Lessons learned.

WOW!! "LITTLE MISS DYNAMITE!!".......2007-06-08
This is one great compilation of Brenda Lee's early career! When I first heard her sing back in '56, her voice just blew me away! I thought, "There's no way she's only eleven years old!" Well...she was only eleven and turned out to be a child prodigy. Brenda was also fortunate to have superb back-up musicians on her recordings. Give a listen to "Losing You" with Don Sheffield's beautiful trumpet solo. It is
extraordinary!! This anthology has all of her big hits, plus a few that
deserve some belated attention. For those of you over 55, it will definitely help you re-live the soundtrack of your life!! For you younger folks, acquaint yourselves with a remarkable voice ala Charlotte Church and Leann Rimes. Brenda Lee is one of the all-time greats!!!
Brenda Lee Anthology (1956 -1980).......2007-01-04
Brenda will really Rock you through the years, highly recommended, you won't be disappointed, it has brought much tears of joy to my heart, she deserves to be a part of your collection.
Brenda doing Rockabilly.......2006-07-02
The reason I like this product so much is that it contains powerful rockabilly performances such as "BIGELOW 6-200", "Dynamite" and "Little Jonah", not found on other collections.
Worth the title!.......2006-04-16
From Rock & Roll to C&W, from Blues to Ballad. It's all here.
The best possible selection of songs of female's biggest star
of the late 50's and early 60's + her switch to pure country
in the late 70's and early 80's. This really deserves the word
"anthology". Her incredible voice repasses all possible music
styles and most of her hits are on this double CD together
with 2 booklets explaining better than ever the story behind
this tiny woman with an incredible strong singing capacity.
From Miss Dynamite during the days of pure Rock & Roll to the
Lady of Country 20 years later. This set of 2 CD's is an
abolute must for Brenda Lee fans and also for those youngsters
who have never heard of her. This is MUSIC with capital letters.
Miss Dynamite!.......2004-06-16
She was eleven years old when she recorded "Jambalaya". "I'm Sorry" her biggest hit was recorded four years later and was written by Ronnie Self. It's one of the finest teen pop songs of its era. This two discs are presenting her in rockabilly, Nashville sound and country. Very nice collection.

The Best Years on Decca.......2003-01-26
With so many Brenda albums to choose from, one could be understandably overwhelmed. This CD encompasses BL's Rock years on Decca Records. According to Billboard, BL had 29 chart hits from 1960-1967. 16 of the 22 tracks herein made those charts. BL also (!) had 19 country chart hits from 1971-1985, with one actually released in 1957 when she was 13 years old. That is longevity! No pure country releases are included here but "Fool # 1" and "Too Many Rivers", which both made the rock charts, have distinct country flavors. So too do "Johnny One Time" and "Just Out of Reach", which made neither chart. Favorite tracks are highly subjective but this listener especially liked "Losing You" and "Emotions". The only track that failed to impress was a far too upbeat version of Hank Williams' "Jumbalaya" which does justice to neither country nor rock. That one errant entry aside, "The Brenda Lee Story" ably showcases that talented performer from Lithonia, Georgia. Old fans of Little Miss Dynamite have a safe choice here and these tracks may well produce some new ones.
Don't Miss This If You like Brenda Lee!!.......2001-11-07
Brenda Lee's cut of "I'm Sorry" is worth the price of this album by itself. But all of her goodies are also here, like "Break It To Me Gently" and "Too Many Rivers To Cross." Styles change and singers come and go...but it is hard to understand why talent like Brenda's does not continue to have her making top-of-the-chart recordings up to the present.
Fortunately, we have these precious gems of BL to listen to - and I do!! Over and over. Classics!
LITTLE BRENDA LEE'S VERY BEST.......2000-04-06
Miss Brenda Lee, that little girl who grabbed everyone's attention (and heartstrings) in the 60's is one of the finest components of song this world has to offer. Where LeAnn Rimes was a few years ago is territory Miss Lee paved way back when. Who else could put that brave front on the heartbreaking story of "AS USUAL"? All her hits are here, including the great arrangement and brass solo of "LOSING YOU", the bittersweet "YOU CAN DEPEND ON ME", and the bluesy "BREAK IT TO ME GENTLY". Brenda's rockin' sides are also spotlighted in "SWEET NOTHIN'S" and "DUM DUM". Another favorite "TOO MANY RIVERS" is included here, which I haven't seen on other CDs in a long while. Yes, "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" is missing, but don't us true Brenda fans already have that? A fine collection.
First-Class Hits from One of The First Female Teen Idols.......2000-02-07
Brenda Lee was among the first and (to these ears) best female teen idols, and "The Brenda Lee Story" is an outstanding overview of her career.
Just a teenager when she recorded many of these songs with producer Owen Bradley , Ms. Lee could even then sing countrypolitan ballads the near-equal of labelmate Patsy Cline (1960's #1 "I'm Sorry," "Fool #1," the elegant "All Alone Am I"). She also fired up teenage pop fluff like "Sweet Nothins" with a rock n' roll growl her contemporary, Connie Francis, could not manage. (Listen to her line, "My baby gives me that special look," for proof.) The collection has a few missteps: Hank Williams' "Jambalaya" is a bit too speedy, "You Always Hurt The One You Love" pales next to Clarence Henry's version. But overall, Brenda Lee's "Story" is a fine introduction to her best work, lacking only her Christmas classic "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" to make it perfect.

Little Miss Dynamite Shines on This Fantastic Two-Fer!.......2006-07-01
I loved these two albums 40 years ago when I first purchased on vinyl (Mono). I played them so often they developed a lot of pops and snaps but by the time I set out to replace them many of Brenda's albums were no longer available. I searched for over 25 years at record shows with some success, but a mint or unopened Stereo copy of "Let me Sing" eluded me. How wonderful to now have this superb CD with both of these great albums from around 1963 or 64 in Stereo. The cover art and booklet are great too. I also own the other ACE releases of Brenda's early albums and I hope they will consider releasing a few more as their are several more original Decca album titles that have never been released on CD (Top Teen Hits-1964, Too Many Rivers-1965, Bye Bye Blues-1966, and Coming On Strong-1967). These albums were not as big as her earlier ones but still had many hits on them and fantastic covers of then current songs done only the way that Brenda Lee could do it. They were all produced by the Legendary Owen Bradley. As far as this CD goes, it is basically 1960's easy pop or what today would be called Adult Contemporary. Brenda's version of "At Last" is my favorite of all the many versions recorded; Her million selling hits "Break it to me Gently" and "Losing You" are included along with "As Usual" and "I Wonder" from the "By Request" album. I also greatly enjoy "Our Day Will Come", "Why Don't You Believe Me", "There Goes My Heart", "The End of The World", & "You're The Reason I'm Living". These songs sound as good now as they did the first time I heard them. Brenda Lee had (and still has) one of the most powerful voices and unique styles of any female singer out there and was the top Pop Female Vocalist of the 60's according to Billboard Magazine. These early albums are great treasures and I highly recommend this CD.

Album Description
The Country Music Hall of Fame states that Brenda Lee has proved to be one of the most versatile singers ever to record in Nashville, and her commercial success (as measured by cumulative record sales) is probably second only to Elvis Presley among artists who have recorded heavily in Nashville. A professional singer by the age of six and a recording artist by the age of twelve, she has fashioned a career of uncommon durability that spans more than forty years. In so doing, she has transcended the musical boundaries of pop and country music to earn the awards and respect of fans and peers worldwide.

NOT re-mastered originals .......2006-06-02
I bought this thinking that these WERE the ORIGINAL recordings of my favorite Brenda Lee's songs. After the first song, I realized that these were recorded when she was older, and not the spunky little numbers I was used to....she sings them well, but they show a little bit of aging in her voice, although she still does sing a great tune. I LOVE the songs, but her voice has some years in it. She's still Little Miss Dynamite!!
A good sample of her re-recorded hits.......2005-05-14
So far this is my favorite budget collection of the Owen Bradley re-recordings she did of her hits around 1996 (this is mentioned in her autobiography) Since she owns these recordings she can lisence them to any label and there seem to be a lot of collections floating around containing these newer recordings. I think the quality of these redone songs are great and I am happy to have these. Just long as the consumer is aware that they are not getting the original hits. This is a good cd if you want a casual overview of some of her biggest hits. Of course there is a lot missing, but this is a cheap way to start.
p.s the cd "Sings Her Greatest Hits" is also a good one, 20 songs over two discs (could have fit in one) but same price.

More holiday classics!.......2007-01-11
Can you say Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer?! My family can. This cd was full of fun songs for the entire family. A must purchase!
The Only Christmas Music I Can Tolerate.......2004-12-23
My grandmother used to have this collection on CD when I was younger, and to this day it's really the only Christmas music I really enjoy listening to. I pretty much hate everything else, it's all very annoying, but this collection is great! It has a really great version of "White Christmas" by The Drifters and also "Grandma Got Run Over..." is a classic. It's a variety of different styles and that's what I like best about it. It's sure to please anyone at a holiday party.
Not all songs are original..........2004-11-23
Apart from what other posters have said, not all the singles here are the originals. Most notably, I found out the hard way that "Please Come For Christmas" by Charles Brown is NOT the original 1961 version, but instead a later version recorded by the same artist, and very over-produced. I was rather disappointed, as this was the main reason I bought the CD.
Other than that, the songs are all the originals as we've heard on the radio and such.....
This is my favorite Christmas album ever!.......2000-10-29
When I was in the third grade, our school chorus sang Jingle Bell Rock for the Christmas program. I wanted to learn that song so badly that my mom went out and bought this for me. I couldn't stand it! I thought that it was the wrong version. But eventually, I grew to love this album. I listened to it all the time through the holiday season, and I lost my tape. My grandma bought me a new one and the following year, I found my old one. To this day, I still listen to and love this album. If you have just one Christmas album in your holiday colection, let it be this one. However, off that note, though I'm sure none of you care, we ended up singing the same sets of songs both years I was allowed to be in chorus, and none of them were Jingle Bell Rock.
Very Good.......1999-11-26
My daughter loves this CD. When I first got it I had to make a tape copy for her so she could listen to it in her room. And know I have to get another CD for my mother. She got a CD player for Christmas last year and has been looking for this CD you are the only ones who have it. This CD is listen to every Christmas since I first found it. I think it should be a part of everyone's CD collection of holiday music.

Ah, that spirited nasal twang of 16-year-old Brenda Lee singing the "Deck! The Halls with Boughs of Holly!" chorus from her mega-hit "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"! When it comes to Christmas classics, some people like their Bing, others their Perry, but for some folks there's nothing quite like that tortured holiday teenage (and beyond) angst of the girl once known as "Little Miss Dynamite." Who else could sing songs like "Marshmallow World" and "Strawberry Snow" and not only make it forgivable, but enjoyable? Brenda gets a bit on the weepy side here with "Blue Christmas" and "Christmas Will Be Just Another Lonely Day," but that's the part of her shtick that many people consider the money shot. --Steve Gdula
Customer Reviews:
Jingle Bell Rock.......2007-01-10
This is a song that brings back great memories of Christmas when I was a kid. All the songs are fantastic.
Great addition to an otherwise traditional selection.......2007-01-06
If you generally listen to traditional Christmas songs, like we do, and like to speed it up a bit without losing the Christmas feeling, this may be the album for you.
We are not fans of more modern variants of Christmas traditionals or those weird new songs a little bit Christmas-y. For me they are not very interesting. It is like they are just trying to sell a Christmas album or thought they -had to- grind one out. This holds even for my favorite groups.
Brenda Lee sings rock-ish songs that sound like they belong in the same collections as Bing, Perry, Nat, Frank, and the like.
What Christmas is complete without a little rockin' around the Christmas tree? It is truly a classic
No one can sing a Christmas song like Brenda!.......2004-12-01
Brenda Lee is the creator of a true Rock and Roll Christmas song, Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree. Others have recorded this song, but no one comes close to the original Brenda Lee version. I have this on vinyl and I do wish the other two songs were included, but it's still a great CD.
A good CD but the original is better and is available.......2002-07-19
This still a good CD with only ten of the original songs of Brenda Lee's "Merry Christmas from Brenda Lee" Album. The songs that are missing are "Santa Claus is comming to town" and "Frosty the snowman" The ten remaining songs are probably more rememorable. I highly recomend the remastered original version titled "Rocking aroung the christmas tree" It contains all twelve songs plus six extra songs. It may cost more but, it is worth the money. The reason I gave the Jingle Bell Rock CD three stars is because this other , more complete, version is available
Brings Back Memories.......1999-11-11
This is my favourite Christmas recording of all time. My fave song on it is Christmas will be Just Another Lonely Day. I know its a downer, but the orchestra backing is incredible...as is Brenda...I can hardly wait to other the CD. I wore out the album !
