The 'UNTER's Dun It Again.......2007-05-16

This is am Oldie But Goodie - never released on CD. Best tracks - wher do you start - I Guess at the very beginning with All Of the Good Ones are taken go right through the CD and end with All of the Good Ones are Taken (best version). The in between tracks are as good as the very First and the very Last. As they say "Do Your Self a Favour" buy the CD and enjoy !!

Every one complains when you can't buy a recording.
When it is finally rereleased , all we hear is nit-picking complaints.
This remastered cd sounds great .Go and buy it if you like Hunter/Mott

Not his shining moment. There are a few quality tunes here.. Death & Glory Boys, Seeing Double, All Of The Good.. (side 1 track 1).
The picture of Ian without his trademark sunglasses on the cover should've tipped me off--BUT--- I am an Ian/Mott fan....
This is an typically produced circa 1983 LP/CD---way too bright and poppy---except for Death & Glory Boys which features the late Mick Ronson on growling guitar.
Recommended as a catalog filler only.

Be on the lookout for Ian's new CD 'Shrunken Heads" due in stores 5/07 with touring to follow---it could the last time he does---he's older than Bowie!

OK, almost 25 years later, maybe it's time for a re-appraisal.......2007-01-10

I once "reviewed" this album elsewhere, saying it was one of Ian's far lesser efforts. I still believe that, despite the fact that most everybody sucked during the vile eighties. So it'll be very nice to listen to AOTGOAT on legitimate CD for the first time. OK, you already know that Clarence plays sax on both versions of the title cut, and that Ian's musical "better half," Mick Ronson, appears just once on "Death And Glory Boys." A chum once kind of bootlegged a "ho-made CD" copy of AOTGOAT for me, and I was very pleasantly surprised to hear how much better the music had held up into the new millenium (MUCH better than the previous "Short Back And Side"). And it's no secret that the song "That Girl Is Rock And Roll" is almost the equal of anything Ian did on his first album or "Schizophrenic." And the reissue is supposed to include the "single" mix of both it and the title cut, so that will be something else to listen up for, too...1/25 - no "Girl," something called "Traitor." "Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride," I guess...

Fantastic.......2006-01-30

No matter where you are, this is great music to listen to... in the car, while making dinner, or just sitting and reading a book. I tend to listen to CDs too often and get a bit tired of them, and off to the shelf they go. Not so with this... no matter what... it's just great music! It's on my ipod and in my car so it's always there, and it has yet to get "old".

The Winding Mystery..........2005-09-21

Bill Deasy is probably one of the finest songwriters I have ever encountered. Right up there with JT, Joni Mitchell and Dan Fogelberg in my mind. His entire body of work represents some of the most deeply satisfying, heartfelt wisdom and yearnings from an artist of any era.
The "winding mystery" to those who have discovered this man's genius, is why he is not a big star...But like any good mystery, it is the road of discovery, the journey itself that is of value. Deasy's musical journey has been long and at times convoluted, but ultimately redemptive, and it's clear he is on the right road with this new album "Chasing Down a Spark."
Here we find a hotter, more worldly Bill Deasy, and the tunes overall present the writer's optimistic world view. Lessons learned, wisdom found, forgiveness realized...
From the bluesy rockin' "Wishing Well", to the quiet,plaintive "And I Wait" to the many songs with catchy, hook-filled choruses that compel the listener to join in (Until I Get it Right, Now That I Know What it Means,Turn your Light On), this album has a feel-good quality that refreshes.

Joined by friends in both the writing and the performing (Brian Webb, Teitur Lassen, Molly Bancroft, Jane McCafferty, Rachael Yamagata,Maia Sharp, Scott Blasey, Rob James and more...) Deasy's clearly found the spark and got the fire going...

Turn your light on!!!.......2005-07-30

A few weeks ago i bought Rob Thomas solo cd "something to be". I really liked it. It's the kind of music you listen to and you start to like almost every song from the beginning.And that's the difference!You play it a few times and it doesn't matter wether you play it again or not. "Chasing down a spark" gets better and better with each listening. There's so much to find in it.I might have listened to it for about 80 times the last weeks and i still can't get enough - and i still explore new moods, ideas and intensions. This work - by the man himself Mr.Deasy - isn't just a cd...it's what life is all about. It captures more than you would wish to expect when you buy a cd.
It is silent and loud, happy and sad, dressed and "naked", powerful and weak at the same time. And you keep asking yourself "man - how can one cd do this to me?" I'm still impressed. And i'm still thankful for this work. 5 stars could never be enough! And there could never be enough words to describe it...so take the chance!!!

I bought the lp for 9 bucks and burned it to cd,no pops etc. I have ever solo cd Ian has done and this was bought to complete my catalog.There are some good songs here Somethings Goin On,All of the good ones are taken,Fun,Death 'n' Glory Boys,Seeing Double,That Girl is Rock N Roll,Speechless . the only really bad song is Captain Void and the Video Jets. With all that being said there are no great songs here. It's not the songs don't have the potential or that Ian was in a slump.It's the arrangements,Bluebird not on the lp or cd is taken from the same sessions and is a great song,one you would expect from Ian. I truly beleive that if Ian reworked this material it would stand up to his caliber of music.Ian is not going to go backwards though only forward as he has done with YUI ORTA,Dirty Laundry,Artful Dodger and Rant. I can't wait for Shrunken Heads to be released.Buy this as an lp and burn it to cd if you wish to finish your catalog. Do not start with this,try Rant or any of the official live cds.

A FINE RELEASE FROM IAN HUNTER.......2006-03-18

I totally disagree with "journalist" Deadbeatsuburban's review of this 1983 release. I think it is a fine CD even though Mick Ronson only appears briefly (due to contractual problems). It doesn't have quite as many great songs as 1979's "You're Never Alone With A Schitzophrenic", but then, very few CDs do.

Not one of Ian's best efforts .......2006-01-23

The title track almost became a hit for Ian. It got plenty of airplay on MTV and the first version is a great Hunter ballad. Most of the rest of the material is dispensable. Sadly Ronno is MIA for most of the album although he does make a solid guest appearence on "Death'N' Glory Boys" which isn't one of Ian's better songs. "That Girl Is Rock 'N' Roll" is a decent song marred by a bad production/arrangement. "Somethin's Goin' On" is pretty good. "Captain Void 'N' The Video Jets" is disposable with a really really annoying arrangement that has too many 80's sythes on it. "Seeing Double" holds up well with a mournful Clarence Clemons sax solo. The second "ballad" version of "All of the Good Ones Are Taken" is pretty bad.

This just isn't a memorable album from Ian and it's clear he's trying for just about any sound that might sell the album. Sadly the album and the material is mired in too many sythesizers and doesn't feature enough guitars. Is it worth paying $129.00 for this? Frankly no. I picked mine up overseas for US $9.99. Since at that time the three good songs on this album weren't available anywhere else it made it worthwhile. Otherwise pick up "Once Bitten Twice Shy" the Hunte anthology that has two of the best tracks here on it (although curiously the slower ballad version of "Good Ones" is included while the almost hit isn't). You'll only have to pay about $20.00 and get a good healthy dose of solid Hunter material and previously unreleased material.
