The Derailers' problem: If you love a band that sounds as perfectly like Ray Price and Buck Owens as the Derailers do, then why not buy some vintage Price and Owens instead? Reverb Deluxe occasionally confronts this problem by including a few more influences than on previous releases: "California Angel" is Gram Parsons-style country rock; two other songs suggest the Nashville Sound. But even on these cuts, the Derailers are sowing a fairly narrow field--and with songwriting that doesn't live up to their heroes'. So the problem remains. The concluding, hidden, track, a Bakersfield-styled cover of "Raspberry Beret," is an entertaining novelty, but no solution. --David Cantwell

I found these guys on my space (they were a friend of another local band I follow) and bought their 2006 release. This version has been re-mastered and the quality has been increased two-fold as a result. These guys rock! Check it out yourself and listen to the samples here.

Elements of old school rock and new school production makes for a great album. Crank it to 11! Their story is cool - check it out at [...]

5 out of 5 stars More Essential Listening.......2007-04-27

Hard to say if this or "Jackpot" is the better album. You should just buy them both.

5 out of 5 stars Great Twang, Great Songs.......2005-06-16

Like one of the other reviewers said - this is like a greatest hits CD. There's 14 tracks, and 12 of them could be singles. (If you could actually find radio stations that play this sort of country). All the tracks have a few things in common - perfect, tight harmonies; great twangy guitar; great steel guitar. But each track has it's own personality.

I bought this CD in 1999. It's 2005 now. And I still love this CD. This is one of those rare CD's where every track is catchy enough to grab your attention from the first listen. But there's so many little details & extra little touches - that the tracks still stand up to MANY repeated listens.

There are a few "heartache" numbers on this CD that I really love. (Can't Stop a Train, No One To Talk to But the Blues, Dull Edge of the Blade). But for the most part, this is an upbeat CD. It really puts me in a good mood, and makes me wanna dance!

If you ever get a chance to see these guys live - don't miss it. These guys obviously have a great time on stage, and you can't help but catch a little of that good vibe!

Some people would complain that these guys are re-hashing the Bakersfield sound. Like there's a problem with that? The Derailers pay homage to a great era of country music. And the songwriting is strong enough that they make a vintage style sound fresh.

5 out of 5 stars Reverb DeluxI.......2004-01-16

I like this type of honky-tonk/Bakersfield music. I became a real Buck Owens fan ten years after he dropped out of sight And when I hear this new, so called country music I feel lousy. Quite honestly, these new guys are great singers, terrific musicians all, but their music just don't get it. Long winded, rambling stories and tunes that are really not good to listen to. They are fantastic dancers, performers and such, but the music HAS NOT GOT IT, AND THAT GOES FOR THE WOMEN AS WELL. Old timers like Merle Haggard, Kitty Wells Buck Owens, Lorettta Lynn and Tammy Wynett were playing music that made me want to sing and play also. It makes me feel good in my heart. If I'm an old dinasaur, so be it. Modern country sucks. Don A.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Mix of Style and Attitude.......2003-09-08

This CD has something like the style of Buck Owens with the attitude of the Beatles. The result is a really fun collection that makes the steel and twang irresistable. Don't miss Raspbery Beret.

5 out of 5 stars super good.......2002-10-28

punk twang? cow punk? country jam funk? It's great! Defies labels, reaches the heart and lives up the reputation of "alternative country" Especially good cuts: 'Can't Stop A Train' and an amazing rendition of Prince's 'Raspberry Beret'
[a 'hidden' track at the end]...I used to listen to 'country-rock' in the 70s...bemoaned the loss of it...but now these guys and others like 'em have brought it back-but even better

    Product Description

Legendary Los Angeles rock band Bluebeard is back with their first album in over 20 years. Described by some as Train with more edge -- as well as a distinctive 70s vibe -- Bluebeard's sound reflects rock influences from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today. Copies of their 1979 independent LP "Bad Dream" regularly sell on collectors' web sites with asking prices as high as $500. Bluebeard has a devoted underground fan base and in their heyday played dates with everyone from Van Halen to The Motels to Steppenwolf and many other great bands. Radio and Records wrote: "The thing people like about Bluebeard is the makeup of the band. They all play a dozen instruments and with that kind of mobility, they can do things to a tune that's bigger than life." The suicide of original lead singer Barry Leech in 2004 created a catalyst from which the band found new meaning and a singular focus to once and for all bring their unique brand of music to the world. This release includes a tribute to the past with a duet between Leech and new frontman Elington Erin. The CD version includes bonus material not available on the digital album. Tracks: 1. I Don't Know About Me 2. Paint It Black 3. How Difficult Is That? 4. The Sleeper & The Dreamer 5. Love Is Nowhere 6. Pretty Vegas 7. Authority Man 8. Take A Little Time Out 9. A Love To Rescue Me 10.
