Editorial Reviews
Tami Gunden made her singing debut at age three and by the time she reached eleven she had recorded two albums. Her powerful voice and energetic stage presence caught the attention of many well-known individuals such as Ralph Carmichael who signed Tami to his prestigious Light Record label. For Tami's third album, "Celebration," she teamed with producer Joe Huffman and arranger Michael W. Smith. Smith also provided the title cut for Tami's Spectra Records release, "Behind the Cover." Award winning director Bob Lauro produced music videos of two songs from the album which received extensive air-play. These videos went on to be among the top ten most requested videos on the Trinity Broadcasting Network in Anaheim California.
Tami has toured or performed with contemporary Christian artists such as Mylon LeFevre, Phil Keaggy, and David Meece. Mylon LeFevre explains, "In the years I've known Tami, it has become obvious she loves Jesus and I have enjoyed watching her share that love with audiences all over America." She has also been a favorite performer of such organizations as Christian Booksellers Association, National Religious Broadcasters, and large business corporations such as IBM.
In 1987 Tami released the Written On My Heart album which contained several songs she co-wrote with her brother, songwriter John Gunden. Three of these songs were released as singles and found spots on the Contemporary Christian Music Charts. She also recorded a collection of children's songs that has been such a favorite with her young fans that a follow-up project is in the works. Through the years, Tami has traveled thousands of miles and touched the hearts of her audiences with her unique ability to communicate the love of God. People all over the country who have enjoyed Tami's exceptional vocal ability will be delighted by the release of her latest record, "Redemption."
Recorded by John Andrew Shreiner at Jasmine Sound in San Clemente, California, this project promises to highlight another facet of Tami's musical style. As she explains, "I'm more enthusiastic about this recording than any other I've done. I believe God has brought together in His timing the musicians, the songs, the direction, the production, along with a very supportive label."
Tami Gunden now has 11 recordings to her credit along with the previously mentioned 2 award-winning videos. In the past year she had the #1 Christian song in Chicago, Denver, and Portland and the #34 song of the year. In addition working with dozens of ontemporary Christian artists, Tami has shared the stage with Leann Rimes, Faith Hill, Barbara Mandrell, Marie Osmond, Glenn Campbell, and Charlie Pride.
The first single from "Redemption" entitled "Everlasting Story," written by Tami and her brother John Gunden, will be promoted to over 450 radio stations nationwide.
Product Description
Tami Gunden's new release is produced by John Andrew Shreiner, known for his work with Fernando Ortega, Crystal Lewis, and many other popular Christian artists. "Redemption" contains several songs written by John Schreiner and two songs written by Tami and her brother John Gunden. Famed guitarist Buddy Miller plays on the project and his wife Julie provides background vocals. On Tami's "Hymn of Grace," she is joined by famed cellist Cameron Stone. Michael Thompson adds guitar on several songs and Natalie Cole's background singer, Janelle Sadler provides vocals throughout. David Raven and bob Wilson (from Seawind)on drums. Bill Batstone joins Tami on "Beautiful One." Tami covers Bob Dylan's "When He Returns" with the passion the song well-deserves. Expect several songs to go top ten on the Christian Inspirational and Worship Charts.

Haunting, Majestic, Beautiful.......2007-07-09
I remember seeing the movie (I was one of the few who saw it in the theatre on its original run), and early on when the first aerial shots of Shawshank Prison appear onscreen, accompanied by the 'Stoic Theme' from the score, I felt that the movie had found its voice. As much as Morgan Freeman's melodious narration drives the story of the film, Newman's music drive the emotional heart from beginning to end.
The music is beautiful to listen to by itself -- haunting and majestic where it needs to be, but also more intimate and soft in its quieter moments. It never goes over the top with its sentimentality or dramatic tone, relying on subtle cues to convey menace, or friendship, or danger, and in the end, hope.
Like all good music for film should (a goal rarely realized), Newman's score conveys the message of the movie perfectly. It accompanies the events on screen, but it also enhances them, adds just the right tone, and really brings it to the heart of the viewer. It is safe to say that the film would not have been the same without such an accomplished and thoughtful score. In this case, it is even more true than usual -- the score is what helps to make the film so great, and with different music, the film itself would be lessened.
Thomas Newman has built a career out of creating music that is unique and moving, somehow always putting his signature on it without ever regurgitating themes or reusing the same ideas for different films. Even in such a distinguished body of work, filled with great music that moves the soul, Newman's score for 'The Shawshank Redemption' remains, fittingly, a shining moment.

My all-time favorite film & score.......2006-06-20
The film wouldn't be nearly as powerful without this amazing soundtrack. The disc is great from start to finish, but my two favorite tracks on the CD are taken from (what I believe) are the two most emotional scenes in the whole movie: Andy tells Red about his dream of "Zihuantenejo"; and the flashback which shows how Andy pulled off his risky escape, thus the "Shawshank Redemption."

It would be easy to pass off this latest Jars of Clay release as a marketing gimmick, especially as more and more Christian artists are turning to casting age-old hymns in their own creative image. Has the modern praise-and-worship songwriting well run dry or are artists truly looking back over time to gain that "renewed and refreshed perspective" as Jars describes this effort in the liner notes for Redemption Songs? The thoughtful listener will quickly discover that the latter is true. Jars of Clay's acoustic, organic sound is an ideal approach to presenting "very old words set to almost completely modern music" as never once does the music overshadow the power of the words. The band captures the essence of hope and joy in tracks "God Will Lift Up Your Head," "It Is Well With My Soul," and the rousing "Nothing But the Blood," aided by the great Blind Boys of Alabama. On the other side of the emotional spectrum, the needful ache of man seeking God is well captured with melancholic "I Need Thee Every Hour" and "Hiding Place." Other special guest appearances by Sarah Kelly on "I'll Fly Away" and Delirious' Martin Smith on "Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder" all fit well within the reverential mood of this marvelous release. If this record doesn't renew and refresh you, it may be time to check your pulse. --Michael LyttleCustomer Reviews:

I have another JOC album but wouldn't call myself a true fan. There is actually very little Christian music that I like because it is too poppy and praisy. But I very much appreciate this album and rate it 5 stars. (As for my general musical tastes, I love classic rock, followed by alternative rock.)

Again a super album from a talented band called Redemption.......2007-05-12
Fans of progressive Heavy Metal eat your heart out, if you like the voice of Fates Warning, Ray Alder is singing his lungs out on this album, super Super SUPER!!!
The great song writing of Nicolas van Dyk will bring you in a marvelous journey of heavy riffs, great solo's of Agent Steel's guitar player 'Bernie Versailes', pounding bass and great drums.
But don't forget the master himself on keys and guitar, Nicolas.
So, if you will do yourself a pleasure, buy this album and stay HEAVY!!!

A beautiful voice - wasted.......2007-07-10
So, you can imagine after October Project's demise, I was looking forward to hearing more of Fahl. After-all, a voice like that just can't be silenced.
Too bad it wasn't - at least for the garbage on this album. Redemption is probably the only song that shows what she can do with her voice. The rest is just a waste of her talents. God, I certainly hope she does not go down the same road that Karen Carpenter did and make everything she sings sound like a funneral dirge. She's trying very hard with the muck written for this album to do just that. The writing credits alone should have been enough to give it away right there. HOW many people does it take to write ONE song? Apparently as many as want to have a say in it for this disaster. Listen, if you start getting more than two people tossing in their two cents worth on any one song, you had better consider not writing it, much less trying to sing it. It is going to sound like a collage of miss-matched ideas and influences. Gee - just like most of the music (if you can call it that) on this album! I certainly hope that Mary Fahl will be able to find another record label willing to take her on when her current one dumps her for this waste of money and resources - with the priviso of course that all she does is sing the songs a talented songwriter creates for her.

Style departure.......2005-08-14
Great Unknown" seems to be an October Project track right off, billowing, inspiring and lush, you would never know the difference. It is my favorite. The rest of the songs really take a departure in style from what I am used to hearing from Mary. Though enjoyable, she seems to be searching for an audience. I hope she continues to put out sounds which can inspire and provoke thought in their writing without getting too sentimental. Pretty girl, great voice, don't let them change your style.

One of the most promising of Peter Gabriel's Real World label protégés came not from some dusty, Third World village, but from that American tire and rubber mecca, Akron, Ohio. But while Arthur's previous Gabriel-inspired adventures netted him considerable critical kudos and even a `99 Grammy nod for his self-created album art, he turns an even neater trick here. The frameworks for Arthur's 16 poetic, alternately introspective and impressionistic songs may be more firmly rooted in traditional folk and singer-songwriter formula than ever, but the influence of Gabriel seems even more pronounced on the album's evocative, often hypnotic sonic textures. Densely layered yet deceptively organic, it's a record of endless production subtleties in service of songs that trickle and dart like a playful stream of consciousness. Whether putting his own peculiar spin on romantic foibles in the dirge-turns-anthem "Favorite Girl," the upbeat energy of "Let's Embrace" and "In the Night," or conjuring more intriguing existential imagery on the fragile "You Are the Dark," Arthur has produced an album that reveals itself anew on every listen. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
One of the most creative and engaging singer-songwriters.......2007-07-02
Great album, but all over the place .......2006-10-03
Now I am not a fan of somewhat cheesy pop/emo songs or country, so that makes for a problem for me and this album. I love the classic sound where he just sings his poetry and let's his voice and acoustic guitar work all the beauty, those song mostly comprise of this:
Signature Joe sound: Redemptions son, Honey and the moon, Innocent world, september baby, termite song, favorite girl, and you are the dark.
These are far and away my favorite songs on the album and I can't get enough of them. They take me to a whole new state of mind when I hear them.
Then we have "Nation of slaves" which is kind of grunge ish with kurt cobain type vocals. Then "Permission" which sounds like it could be a nine inch nails song. Not a bad thing at all if you are a fan.
But for me at all gets worse from there. Firs we have the pop/emo songs that just dont' work for me. It's not that they are horrible songs, it just sounds like he is trying to be somebody he is not. Those songs consist of the following :
I would rather hide, evidence, let's embrace, and in the night.
Then finally, my least favorite type of music, country. There are three songs on here that are borderline county songs and just can't listen to them:
Dear lord, blue lips, and you've been loved.
Well there you have it and know you know what to expect. It's worth getting for the songs that you do become passionate about, but be prepared to probably find some you dont' like.
If this was a religious album, I didn't see it........2006-07-08
There's something about Joseph Arthur..........2006-01-23

This isn't just the best release since maybe Serpents of the Light. This is simply the best thing Deicide has ever created. With the addition of Jack Owen and Ralph Santolla on guitars, some true guitar skills have been added to the band. Where as the Hoffman brothers just spit out riffs written by Asheim and Benton. This album has the best production, fastest playing, and a surprising totally melodic aspect. Tons of harmonies and Meldodies without ever sounding compromised, sold-out, or softer in their appeal. Ripping solos with a lot of classical influence. And unlike all modern technical death metal, Deicide remain true to the straight-ahead classic death...but never get boring. In fact this album has more diversity than most death metal albums. The drumming isn't just one constant blast beat from opening to ending like everything else these days. Glen Benton's vocals are more brutal than ever (and he never tires with age), with utilization of the 3-Pitch Cobra. It is actually a very unique conquest.
This album is released with Earache which is reputable, as they are one of the few original underground metal labels that hasn't caved-in to signing endless amounts of talentless eye-liner and Castro hat bands.
Deicide have forged the Death Metal path, and still reign as masters. No death-core outfit could ever compare to these true originators.

Fates Warning Fans Take Note!.......2007-05-14
Pushes the boundaries and sets new standards.......2007-03-28
First, the concept. It's about a person - it could be me or you - who midway through life experiences that his/her life falls apart. Everything falls into doubt. All emotions peak - agony, despair, sorrow, rage, release - the fullness of time.
Second, the composition. Well, what can I say: overwhelming, at first. Everything is pushed to its limit, and beyond. Pressed to find a genre designation, I would say: melodic heavy metal. But then I have to add that this is very intelligent music. There is some thrash, but it doesn't take over; it substantiates the music. And there's plenty of beautiful melody and ingenious riffs.
The person behind the concept and composition is Nick van Dyk. We haven't heard much of him yet, but you can be certain that he is setting his mark on rock music. He's trained as a classical pianist. This shows in Fullness, as there's some fine piano playing underlying the frenzied guitars and binding together the four parts of the title piece.
Third, the vocals. Ray Alder. Need I say more? Everything this guy touches, he turns to gold. Listen e.g. to his gripping vocals on Fates Warning's "A Pleasant Shade of Gray".
Fourth, the musicianship. Nick, Ray, Bernie Versailles, James Sherwood, and Chris Quirarte. All fabulous musicians in their own right, but when they get together in Redemption, wonders happen. Most of the music goes at a pretty wild pace, but it's precise and punchy. A lot of fine details emerge with many listens. Nick and Bernie complement each other nicely, as Nick has the atmospheric solos and Bernie has the stinging ones. James keeps the show together and occasionally, during the quieter passages, says hi gently. Chris' drums are all over the place in a very exciting way.
Fifth, the production. As good as it gets, crystal clear. Trust Tommy Newton, and now, seemingly, Nick van Dyk. I was especially happy to hear Ray's voice coming out so clearly with all its marvelous facets.
Sixth, the illustrations. These are the work of Travis Smith. On the front cover, there's a man who gives the impression of having just fallen from Heaven, or, more symbolically, having awakened to the human condition. On the back cover, it's as if he's saying: Almighty God, I surrender to You. In-between, there is: the fullness of time. On the inner cover, there is, in a true Michelangelan sense, first two hands that reach out for each other, then two hands that have found each other. Ingenious.
Ok, the lyrics. This is the major beef among Amazon reviewers. Let's put it this way: They're very good, but not outstanding, which does make them the weak limb in this production. For people somewhat literate, we've pretty much heard it all before. And as T. Lemos notes, they're narrative, not poetic. However, Nick wanted them to be introspective, and that they are.
Fullness Of Time is a slow grower, because it's dense. With time it will be widely acknowledged to be in a select class together with Abbey Road, Dark Side Of The Moon, Zep II, and A Pleasant Shade of Gray.
It has been an unbelievable struggle for Nick van Dyk to make Fullness the masterpiece it is, and without the help of experienced buddies like Ray Alder and Tommy Newton, it would have been a vain effort. Now, under the knowledgeable aegis of Intromental (I know 'em) and InsideOut, conditions should be favorable for the Redemption guys, and we can hope to hear more great music from them.

This is an amazing single, usually, I think Gackt's music is just alright, with a few better than his average songs. But Redemption and Longing are just two fantastic songs. But saddly, they are just two songs, so not much to discuss here on them.
