Although it squarely falls in the "jukebox musical" category, Jersey Boys doesn¹t try to integrate its songs in an artificial plotline. The show tells the story of the early-1960s group the Four Seasons, and the musical numbers tend to be introduced in context, as when songwriter Bob Gaudio comes up with a tune, or the quartet performs a show. This allows Jersey Boys to flow better than some of ill-fated peers, and the actors can shine without having to bend backward to accommodate an inane book. The show's most (only) daring move is to start with a hip-hop-tinged French-language version of "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)," an actual hit in France in 2000. After that it's all VH1-biopic territory, but it's done with so much flair, taste and energy that the ride's a fun one. The Four Seasons had enough hits ("Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Rag Doll," etc.) to easily fill an evening at the theater, so it's left to the cast to do right by them. And it does, particularly John Lloyd Young as the band¹s star lead, Frankie Valli. Young hits all the falsetto notes and brings real freshness to the part. His "Can¹t Take My Eyes Off You," a second-act peak, is signed, sealed and delivered with a star's acumen. --Elisabeth VincentelliAlbum Description
Recounting the rich history and reliving the timeless sounds of the phenomenal Frankie Vallie & The 4 Seasons, the new Broadway musical Jersey Boys answers the musical-and philosophical question, "How did four would-be wise guys from Newark, NJ, become one of the greatest chart-topping successes in pop music history?" Jersey Boys celebrates legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Massi who, as the 4 seasons, wrote their own songs, invented their own identity, and sold 175 million records worldwide-all before they were 30.Customer Reviews:

RIP, BEVERLY SILLS 1929-2007.......2007-07-03
This wonderful CD set is a perfect compilation of her art as can be found anywhere. Her finest roles and performances are captured here, most of them derived from the Westminster/Audio Treasury recordings from her prime. Listening to them again demonstrates to me why she was so special, and such an inspiration to music lovers everywhere.
Brava Sills!.......2007-02-02
Bellini, I Puritani, "Son vergin vezzosa." Wonderful. Sutherland owns this--but so does Beverly Sills. Contemporary sopranos such as Netrebko and Gruberova have also sung this on their respective CDs, and while their product is nice, it simply does not compare. Sills is remarkably agile with her voice; the trills are well done; she cleanly hits high notes; the overall effect can only be described as wonderful.
Bellini, Norma, "Mira, o Norma". This is smoothly sung and very melodic. The technique that she exhibits does not overwhelm the music.
Rosini, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, "Contro un cor che accende amore." Again, her agile voice is well deployed. The florid singing is well done.
Donizetti, Roberto Devereaux, "Che m'apporti." Her clean, light voice matches well with this aria. Smoothly sung. Her "Quel sangue versato al cielo s'innalza," which follows, is well done. High notes cleanly hit, a smooth line.
Verdi, La Traviata, "E strano. . . .Sempre libera." Again, what agility! In "Sempre libera," she reveals a rich voice and, again, wonderful agility. This is an animated version of one of Verdi's showcase pieces.
Lehar, Giudetta. "Meine Lippen." A lot of fun! This is smoothly sung.
In the final analysis, this is a nice potpourri of Beverly Sills' repertoire. Those not familiar with her work will find this a nice entree to her oeuvre; those familiar with her will find this a good compilation.

"America's First Tribal Love-Rock Musical," went the advertising, and nobody could argue with that. Hair opened on Broadway in 1968 and immediately became a smash, although no one could quite discern what it was about. Something like, "War is bad, drugs are good, racism bites the big one, and nudity is nice." Although all these sentiments are expressed on this album which, like the show, has not dated well, the quality of the music makes it forgiveable. The songs weren't really rock, but they accomplished what all good pop songs set out to do; stick in the craw. In fact, several of its tracks later became hits for pop acts, including "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" (The Fifth Dimension), "Hair" (The Cowsills), and "Good Morning Starshine" (Oliver). --Dawn EdenCustomer Reviews:

Like the Black Crowes themselves, the greatest-hits collection A Tribute to a Work in Progress hearkens back to the good old days of best-of collections: you get a bunch of songs you've probably heard on the radio a million times and that's it. These are arguably the group's best songs, but there are no unreleased outtakes or remixes to force rabid collectors to purchase the disc for the sake of two songs. This straightforward document of a straightforward band is also the best entryway to the group's fabulous, swaggering, ballsy, bluesy rock & roll--that is, next to their 1992 breakthrough, Southern Harmony & Musical Companion. While arranged chronologically, what one hears here is the Atlanta-based group playing great, unpretentious Stones-, Faces-, and Zep-influenced rock. This music was made for pure, visceral enjoyment, so play it really loud and dance around. --Mike McGonigalCustomer Reviews:

Out of print in the U.S.! Johnny Cash had already recorded some of the most important Country albums in the history of the genre, yet, although he was still making quality music throughout the '80s, record sales and label support were the lowest he'd ever experienced in his entire career. By the early '90s, he was without a label for the first time in four decades. Longtime fan, label owner and producer Rick Rubin stepped in, asked Johnny to return to his roots and together, they re-created the legend of the Man In Black. Features Cash performing his own compositions as well as songs from Loudon Wainwright, Leonard Cohen, Nick Lowe, Tom Waits and Glenn Danzig. American Recordings earned Johnny a 1995 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. A stunning return to form. Warner.Customer Reviews:
Cash does it again, and again and again..........2007-06-26
With this in mind, much like the minimalist approach to this album, I will do the same with this review. This is simply among the very best albums of any genre, any era since the birth of rock and roll. Nowhere can you find a combination of haunting lyrics with a voice to match and a producer willing to keep his fingers off the controls.
It doesn't matter if you are a punk, emo, stoner, hippie, country fan, metalhead, death metal freak or a soccer mom. This is one of the few pieces of American music that can stand the test of time and truly reach any audience. Get this record!!!

At its best, listening to the Jayhawks make music is a beautiful American experience falling somewhere between drinking a cold Coke on a hot day and driving through the Rocky Mountains at sunset. Perhaps it's in the clarity of Mark Olson's tenor melodies and their accompanying ghostly harmonies, or maybe it's in Gary Louris's immensely raved-up country rock licks. Or perhaps it's the impression left by lyrics that never reveal the whole story but tell just enough to tear at you and make you understand their feeling--the loneliness, the sorrow, the hope, or the peace. The Jayhawks were at their very best indeed on 1992's Hollywood Town Hall. Their guitars were sharp, the words perfect, and the melodies unforgettable. With Tomorrow the Green Grass, however, 1994's version of the great country soul group is decidedly less filling, even when still savory. The addition of violins is a nice touch, but a misstep where the music's muscle is concerned. The guitars are still gorgeous, but muddier and less hook-laden than before. The lyrics still haunt, but they're more disjointed and less gripping this time around. And the melodies are both a blessing and a curse: more easily catching and chart-ready but with a lot less meat on their bones. Call it cosmic American music in the sugary Milky Way galaxy. Or else just remember how much Gram Parsons always did look sort of like David Cassidy. --Roni Sarig

How to find the title track.......2007-06-05
The title song "Tommorrow The Green Grass" could have fit nicely amongst the tracks on the album that bears its name, but you have to buy "National Lampoon's Senior Trip" Soundtrack CD to get that song, so you can add it to your ipod and make it part of the Jayhawks album like it should have been, along with 'Darling Today' from another soundtrack "Blown Away".
That said, this album is definitely the pinnacle, and the sad exit point for Mark Olson--but he and Gary have a duet album as well as individual solo albums coming out in 2007 and into winter 2007-08 so stay tuned.

THE BLACK CROWES' ANTICIPATING FOLLOW-UP TO $HAKE YOUR MONEY MAKER........2007-02-13
During this period, THE BLACK CROWES were on a roll. The band was celebrating their newfound fame and fortune as a result of their extremely successful debut album "$HAKE YOUR MONEY MAKER" from 1990. Their popularity was forever growing tremendously as a result of their growing fanbase and following resulting in sold out concerts everywhere they performed. The band was definitely enjoying the fruits to its fullest excesses that the good life has to offer. According to the Rock critics, lead vocalist and frontman Chris Robinson was being labeled as one of Rock's newest sex symbol's. Having accomplished all of these tasks, it was now time for THE BLACK CROWES or should I say, lead vocalist and frontman Chris Robinson, his brother lead guitarist Rich Robinson, bassist Johnny Colt, drummer Steve Gorman, lead and rhythm guitarist Marc Ford and keyboardist and piano Ed Hawrysch to head back into the recording studio and record the follow-up to their extremely successful debut album $HAKE YOUR MONEY MAKER." As a result, after a certain period of time passed, THE BLACK CROWES would complete and hand in to their record label Def American Recordings records, "THE SOUTHERN HARMONY AND MUSICAL COMPANION." In my opinion, "THE SOUTHERN HARMONY AND MUSICAL COMPANION" is a well recorded and balanced album. And yes, this album does kick a*s.
All I will say is if you really want to get down and Rock to the music of this album, listen to the Rockers such as "Sting Me," the breathtaking "Remedy," the soulful "Thorn In My Pride," the blistering "Black Moon Creeping," the killer "No Speak No Have" and the funkish "My Morning Song."
If you like Blues Rock ballads, listen to the songs "Bad Luck Blue Eyes Goodbye," "Sometimes Salvation" and "Time Will Tell."
This album does contain one Country Rock song called "Hotel Illness," this song sounds really good.
Overall, this is one hell of an album worth seeking out and checking into.
I would like to highly recommend purchasing this legendary album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This album will definitely stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.
In closing, with the success of their follow-up album "THE SOUTHERN HARMONY AND MUSICAL COMPANION," THE BLACK CROWES would continue on the path to further fame and fortune. The band's continued sell out's of all their concerts is an indication that THE BLACK CROWES are here to stay. With this in mind, THE BLACK CROWES legend does not even come close to ending here. There will be new stories that would need to be conquered, told and written in pages and chapters about their glorious career. But that, my fellow readers and reviewers, you will have to stay tuned and read more about at a later time. So here's to you Chris, Rich, Johnny, Steve, Marc and Ed. Keep Persevering. Keep The Faith. Keep On Rockin'. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. THE BLACK CROWES RULES. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

The Jayhawks' breakthrough album is a roots rock classic. "Like folk music, but really loud," is how guitarist Gary Louris liked to describe the Jayhawks, but the reality is more complex--try the country-rock sound of the Flying Burrito Brothers, Neil Young, or the Band married to white-boy soul, bar band rawness, and a slight alternative edge. Hollywood Town Hall is a masterpiece of American songwriting, blending irresistible melodies, ringing guitars, and Louris and Olson's gorgeous harmonies with moody, imagery-rich lyrics. Best cuts: "Waiting for the Sun," "Take Me with You (When You Go)."Amazon.com
Because the Jayhawks' lyrics are more interested in expressing a mournful mood than in evoking any specific emotion, and since their strengths are searing guitar solos and cathartic, Gram Parsons-influenced harmonies, it makes sense their best album would come when they teamed with a producer (George Drakoulias) who could make all that sorrowful noise come to life. Hollywood Town Hall is such a sonic marvel, in fact, that even the new version of the beautiful, if vague, "Two Angels" (repeated from their earlier album Blue Earth) sounds less a retread than a revelation. Though still obscure, like everything here it sounds breathtaking. --David CantwellCustomer Reviews:

great second album.......2007-02-18
These songs are a bit different than the first self titled album, but are still filled with darkness and shadows. Again, these are 11 great songs in perfect sequence. The first three songs on this album are all merged together which makes it even better to listen to. It's too bad the entire album was not presented this way. The songs here are performed a bit different, adding alot of acoustic blues (I'm The One is the best example) 777 is also a great song that moves back and forth between acoustic chords and heavy guitar. Blood And Tears is a nice ballad that is further explored on later albums with songs like 'Sistanas', 'Dominion' and 'Ashes'
Her Black Wings further explores the female goth angel that started with She Rides and appeared in many later songs. Girl is a great heavy song that starts with some nice deep power chords. Pain In The World is a great closer for this album that mixes all the best elements of light and heavy.
The video for this album, which has yet to see DVD release is also worth checking out. It's a great accompaniment to this CD and filled with dark yet compelling images. So check out this CD and the video if you can find it. This is yet another 5 star album.

I was interested in Danzig because I remember Lacuna Coil saying they were going on tour with him and they called him a metal legend, etc. and I had never heard of them. Tried seeing if he had a myspace but he didn't so I could take a listen, then yesterday I was in a disc replay store and spotted this cd for 4 bucks and I was like, "what the hell? Why not?" and then popped it in and loved it. This is just good quality music that is trapped somewhere between rock and metal. MUST BUY!!!!

Could any single disc live up to the title The Only Broadway CD You'll Ever Need? Of course not, though this 76-minute disc gives it a good try. Out of the RCA vaults come original cast performances such as Zero Mostel's "If I Were a Rich Man," Carol Channing's "Hello Dolly," and Oliver's "Consider Yourself." From topnotch revivals come Patti LuPone's "Anything Goes," Peter Gallagher's "Luck Be a Lady," Alan Cumming's "Money," and Bebe Neuwirth's "All That Jazz." Also included are selections from newer shows Titanic and Ragtime. The collection starts to get thin when it has to hunt for available versions of classic songs, ending up with an "America" from Jerome Robbins' Broadway, "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" from the 1979 Oklahoma! revival, and an "Impossible Dream" from Colm Wilkinson's solo album--all fine recordings, but nothing that could be considered a first choice. And of course there are many omissions, most notably the shows of Stephen Sondheim (a longtime RCA artist, even!). A follow-up, The Only Other Broadway CD You'll Ever Need, proved what everyone expected--the original's title was indeed an impossible dream. But it got your attention, didn't it? --David HoriuchiCustomer Reviews:
