Album Description

The title track of The End Of Heartache is an unabashed monster of a song, different than anything the band has ever written. Its epic drive nearly crosses the border into power-ballad territory. "Rose of Sharyn" is an anthem that's heavy in the most non-traditional of senses, building with dynamic energy into a crescendo with a chorus that is perhaps The End of Heartache's biggest reward. "When Darkness Falls," heard during the closing credits of "Freddy Vs. Jason," was the first song Jones ever wrote with the band and falls right into place on The End Of Heartache. With "Breathe Life" he delivers a heartfelt optimism that really makes the track `pop' with, "breathe life/ for you are not alone/ breathe life/ inside your heart of stone."

Generic Metalcore For Trend-Following Fashioncore Losers.......2007-05-08

My title pretty much sums up my opinion of this horrid excuse for metal. I seriously can't think of a single positive aspect of Killswitch Engage. All their riffs are a terrible imitation of At The Gates. The lyrics? *VOMITS* The same theme is present in every song. We get it Howard Jones, you can't get laid. The songs have little to no variety. It's predictable. The drumming is simplistic and can easily be pulled off by an intermediate drummer. It seems that metalcore is as bland as its nu metal predecessor.

FIrst things first, let's talk about the laughable _____ people wright about the one star reviewers. IO am not sure if they hate it jnust becauise it's not metal enough, but ____ that. They Don't like it.

First off, we are not closeminded. If you are though, _____ off and don't liste to death metal, because you give real fans a bad name (Comrade Ren gets undeserved ____, because he really likes good music). Heck just a while back, I hate Metalcore calls me a poser just for like Panic! At The Disco. Hey, I don't care, because I will like what I like. DO you know what's worse than people who listen to the hip music? The Stupid _______ heads like I Hate Metalcore who automatically shun people because they happen to like some band there stupid brain can't stand. Thanks to the people who live up to the steorotype too. __________ emo kids.

THis band sucks. The singer is annoying, there instruments are laughably boring, it dosen;t appeal to us. That's ________ it. I don't like the music because it's boring. IT's nothing special, it sounds just like every other _________ metalcore band. I don't like the music. SImple. Deal with it, you ____heads.

One of my favorite albums of all time........2007-04-04

I first saw this band on some late night music video show. I went out and bought the album and it is still as amazing as the day i got it. Every track is amazing and the wrtitng is so good. Every song is very meaningful. If you like your music hard and fast then this is for you. Oh and iv seen them in concert twice and they were so damn good live it blew me away.

Laughable.......2007-04-03

Much to the dismay of nu-metal wankers like my good friend Jaar-Gilon, this is not, nor will it ever be, a metal band. Sure, you got the stolen At the Gates palm-muted arpeggios, the excessive "my heart is broken" TuFFgUY HARDcore xxxstrAIGHtedgexxXx vocals, and the average metalcore drum fills, a.k.a excessive double bass, but in the end, this comes off as a funny attempt of a emo band to sound metal (see Bullet for my Valentine, All that Remains, 36 Crazyfists, etc...).

Overall, if your a poser and/or emo *unt that trys too hard (Jaar-Gilon), then enjoy. If your a honest metalhead who enjoys good music (OzzyApu, Gringo Mills, Comrade Ren, Squash and Squeak, etc), then you wont.

Say What You Want, But This Album Is Still Amazing.......2005-11-13

There was an unhealthy amount of pressure on Killswitch Engage when talks of their follow up to the wildly successful (and extremely innovative) "Alive Or Just Breathing" first surfaced. Add in the factor that the band's former vocalist Jesse Leech left in Mid 2003 due to voice and personal problems, and you can easily see how difficult it must have been to put out this record. However with "The End Of Heartache", KSE has answered any skeptics who thought the band was over with after Jesse's departure. "The End Of Heartache" is a gut wrenching blast of metallic hardcore, laced with passionate vocals, rigid guitars, and pounding rhythms, and is more than a worthy successor to the last record. The enhanced special edition is a great buy if you never picked up the record initially as it is coupled with a bonus cd containing unreleased tracks, and it's a great addition to this already astonishing album.

"The End Of Heartache" was a record that was probably my most anticipated release of 2004, and even I had to admit that I did not know what to expect before I heard the cd. However from the moment I listened to "Rose Of Sharyn" my faith was restored in the band. I loved Jesse Leech just as much as everyone else (and I still believe that Killswitch Engage would be better if he were still the vocalist), but I can't discredit Howard Jones' vocals on this cd a bit. From the opening seconds of "A Bid Farewell", Howard makes the band his own, and proves that he has just as much range as Jesse, if not a little more. Jones can take his vocals to the lowest depths for those crushing growls, or into the highest shrieks you can imagine. Not only that, but Howard can instantly transition into wonderful melodies, which he never really used in his previous band Blood Has Been Shed. I was amazed at how good a singer Howard actually is. Evidence of this can be seen on such tracks as "When Darkness Falls" and the first single "Rose of Sharyn" where he flows in and out of screams and melodies constantly. Musically this album is a lot less hardcore than the previous, and a lot more metallic, which ultimately doesn't hurt. There's still plenty of hardcore emotion and breakdowns, although this time they have been coupled with more metallic riffs and thrash influences. Tracks like "Declaration" and "Breathe Life" showcase the band's excellent blend of metal and hardcore, as well as flawless guitar work. Adam and Joel definitely churn out some amazing moments through out the album, as their relationship reaches new heights on "Wasted Sacrifice" and "Hope Is..." Justin Folley is a new addition to the band on drums, although he is a seasoned vet in the hardcore scene, coming from Howard's previous band Blood Has Been Shed as well. His performance adds a lot to the band's sound, although I don't think he was as good as their last drummer Tom. No matter because he does a great job backing the band, along with Mike D on bass. Lyrically the band is better is some places, and worse in others. The common sub-theme of love and heartache that runs through the record is kind of lame considering how many emo and screamo bands are doing that to death right now. However it's not to say that songs like "Wasted Sacrifice", "Hope Is" and "Take This Oath" aren't great lyrical pieces. Ultimately if you liked the last record, I can't see why you wouldn't love this one as well. The most dynamic song on the album has got to be the title track and centerpiece of the album, "The End Of Heartache", which is so different from anything the band has previously done. The lyrics may be less than stellar, but the musicianship and atmosphere of the song is amazing, and definitely raises the bar the band had previously set for themselves. It's true KSE turned up the metal a bit, but their sound is still fully intact, and to be honest they sound better than ever. Definitely a must hear for all fans of metal and hardcore.

The Bonus disc included is a nice touch if you don't already have the cd, but if you own the original, it doesn't really warrant you to purchase the reissue. The cd contains two b-sides from the the recording sessions of "The End Of Heartache", "My Life For Yours", and a re-recorded version of "Irreversal", which originally appeared on KSE's self titled album, released on Ferret Music. Both are great songs, "Irreversal" in particular is a great rendition (although Jesse's vocals are still used in some places on the song, which sounds kind of odd), but you'd be better off just downloading them if you already own the cd. There's the Resident Evil : Apocalypse (great movie by the way) mix of "The End Of Heartache", but the mix totally butchers the song. The other three songs are live versions of "Life To Lifeless", "Fixation on The Darkness" and "My Last Serenade", all with Howard on vocals. The live songs are cool, but you really have to see KSE in person to experience the intensity of their live show. Overall the disc is a nice touch, and the re-release itself is more aimed at people who are just getting into the band, or never purchased the original. I can't seeing anyone who already had this shelling out another $15.00 when you can just get the extras off the internet.

In the end though, this is an album that could have been one of the biggest disappointments the band has put forth yet. Instead Killswitch Engage returned, heavy as ever, and answered all critics who has any skepticism over whether or not they could continue on without Jesse. It's true that this album is different from "Alive Or Just Breathing", but to tell you the truth, I like it just as much. Much like the last cd, I can constantly run through plays of this cd, and never get bored. The sound is tight, the vocals are good, and the production is top notch (once again thanks to Adam). I don't understand why a lot of people have dismissed this album or given it harsh criticism. It's easily one of the best records 2004 had to offer, and still stands strong almost a year and a half after its release. If you don't own the original, then pick this up because it's a great deal. Otherwise you will probably feel a lot of "heartache" for not doing so.

This album is (I think) is just as good as there 2nd album. But just not as hardcore.If you like the heavyer metal, you should get the 2nd album. the volcals on this album are not as good cause theres not as much sceaming. If you care about lyrics they are much better on this album. This album is different then anything thats out right now. There isnt a bad song on this album. The drums as much better on this album. the more you listen to it the more you like it. this is what i rate on each song...

This cd is so sweet! The lead singer has such a cool voice. With a mix of screechy and deep screams he makes this cd so freakin' awesome dude! If you don't have this cd drop everything and buy it. I suggest you buy this one that has the extra stuff because it isn't that much more expensive.

Not much of a heartache..........2005-07-10

I still miss the old Killswitch singer. With that said, the current vocalist shouts over similar chugging riffs and small lead lines; you know, just like all Killswitch Engage stuff, and similarly, like most hardcore music out there. The only thing is that when he sings, it sounds too much like the band RA. (Check them out, you'll know what I'm talking about.) Besides that, and the ill-fated live version of "My Last Serenade," (he should leave that incredible song alone), it's an album to stay in your cd case, even if you only pull it out once every two months.

one of the best metal albums of recent years by far.......2005-07-01

Killswitch Engage are one of the best metal bands to emerge in recent years. I, being relatively new to the world of metal, first heard their song "When Darkness Falls" on the "Freddy Vs. Jason" soundtrack a few years back. It blew me away, but I wasn't sure whether or not I was convinced enough to buy one of their albums. Then I heard another song by them on the "Headbanger's Ball Volume One" compilation, and decided that I could ignore them no longer. I went and got "Alive or Just Breathing," an unbelievably awesome CD, and one of the few I could play the entire way through without having to skip a song. After this album, Killswitch parted ways with their singer Jesse David Leach and recruited vocalist Howard Jones as their new frontman. Although some saw this as the beginning of the end for the band, many others welcomed it as a good step in a fresh new direction. I was already biased towards Jones, mainly because he provided the vocals for the two songs that got me hooked on the band, and though Leach is by no means a bad singer, I personally prefered Jones. Now I'm sure there are bunch of you out there who already hate me and are now ready to press "no" at the bottom of this review. I can't really do much to stop you besides finishing my critique. From the second I saw "Rose of Sharyn" on Headbanger's Ball, I knew I had to get this CD. I promptly did, and let me tell you, it's hands down one of the best investments I've ever made. The opening "A Bid Farewell" features an extremely headbangable rhythmic opening, and goes on to display what this band is all about: a good amount of heaviness, a good amount of melody, and an overall sense of power. "Take This Oath" is up next, and though it is not as memorable as "A Bid Farewell," it's still a good song. "When Darkness Falls" is one of the best songs on the album. It is slightly (very slightly) altered from its original version, but it retains its greatness nevertheless. "Rose of Sharyn" follows, and is perhaps the most popular song on the CD. This popularity is justified, as it too is one of the best songs found here. "Inhale" is the melodic instrumentalopening for "Breathe Life," a rather heavy track that, when it relents on its heaviness for the chorus, expresses a message of optimism and hope (themes that appear recurringly throughout the CD). The title track is up seventh, and though some find it too melodic for their tastes, I think that it's a good example of Killswitch's lighter side. "Declaration" is similar to "Take this Oath," if only due to the fact that neither are that memorable at first. After a few listens, though, this song will grow on you big time. "World Ablaze" is an epic track of inspiration, and another one of the album's high points. Its awe-inspiring finale leads straight into "...And Embers Rise," another sedate and melodic instrumental. "Wasted Sacrifice" is yet another good song, and one which also possesses a good message about taking action for what you think is right. "Hope Is...", the last song on the album, is another one of my favorites, and it features great work from the band as a whole. The special edition of this CD (which I happily paid for, even though I own the original--it's just that good) features Howard Jones' take on "Irreversal," a song from the band's self-titled debut. He does a pretty good job, but his vocals occasionally get lost in the mix. It also contains the new song "My Life For Yours," a decent song that suffers from the same vocal problems as the one before it, as well as live versions of "Life to Lifeless," "Fixation on the Darkness," and "My Last Serenade" (Jones does a fantastic job on all of them). The only problem I have with the CD is the "Resident Evil Mix" of the title track. Not only is it a radio-friendly, edited version, but it's totally unnecessary. Besides that, though, this is one of the best metal CDs I've heard in a long time (along with Shadows Fall's "The War Within," God Forbid's "Gone Forever," and Trivium's "Ascendancy"). If you're reading this review and you don't have this album, then stop wasting your time; get out there and get it.

But for myself I'd have to give it a 2 because of so many songs that are already on his other albums. For someone who has no JDG album this is a great one.

Not what I'd hoped for.......2007-05-16

I was familiar with a few of Jimmie Dale Gilmore's songs and two were on this album. Then I learned to like another one or two. Otherwise the rest was pretty much nothing to write home about, but likeable.

This is one of his best. Haunting music with great stories and his beautiful voice soaring upwards combine to make this a fantastic CD. I've been a Jimmie Dale Gilmore fan for years and he's never let me down. Best of all, unlike the newer "country", I can understand every word he says.

Cherry-picked collection of Gilmore's early solo work.......2004-05-29

Having played in club bands, had his songs recorded by others, and formed the then short-lived Flatlanders, Gilmore came to his first two solo albums (1988's "Fair and Square" and 1989's "Jimmie Dale Gilmore") fully formed. He'd already moved back and forth to Austin twice, been awakened to new songwriting possibilities by the works of Townes Van Zandt, and penned catalog staples like "Dallas." It was with all this experience that Gilmore approached his first opportunities to create records of his own vision.

What's particularly interesting about this early period is how his old-timey tenor and poetic lyrics (and those of Butch Hancock) fit atop fairly straight-ahead West Texas honky-tonk. The same elements would later serve more far-reaching musical experimentations, but on these fifteen tracks - fourteen anthologized from the two debut albums, one previously unreleased - Gilmore and his accompanists kick out some incredibly compelling two-steps. In addition to Gilmore and Hancock's tunes, covers of Mel Tillis' "Honky Tonk Song," Townes Van Zandt's "White Freight Liner Blues," and David Halley's "Rain Just Falls" are superb.

Gilmore die-hards will need the original pair of albums (plus this collection for the previously unissued "Ramblin' Man"). Those looking for some West Texas honky-tonk with lyrics that dig deeper than the typical tear-in-your-beer will be truly amazed by this unusual combination of swinging beats and cosmic-cowboy lyrics. Willie Nelson may still be the spiritual mayor of Austin, but Gilmore's clearly got an executive position in the administration.

A longtime veteran (at 38!) of the Bluegrass scene, Don Rigsby has played with some of the most recognized bands in recent history. Most notably, he was a member of the Lonesome River Band, possibly the most popular Bluegrass band of the '90s, and his tenor voice is an integral part of the Bluegrass "supergroup" Longview. Ever a sideman or equal band member, Rigsby steps out with his first release as a band leader.

Playing Time - 39:05 -- Don Rigsby doesn't even turn the big 4-0 until February 28 of 2008. Already he has two decades of professional bluegrass experience with such top groups as Longview, Bluegrass Cardinals, J.D. Crowe & the New South, Lonesome River Band and Rock Country. He's also released four highly-acclaimed solo albums and was twice named SPBGMA's male vocalist for the year. When Rock Country disbanded, Don was faced with two choices - work for someone else, or form his own band. He chose the latter and, unlike previous solo albums from Rigsby (on the Sugar Hill label) that enlisted friends and session players, he has recorded "Hillbilly Heartache" with his own group (Midnight Call) that includes himself singing lead and playing mandolin, along with Dale Vanderpool (banjo), Shayne Bartley (guitar), Jesse Wells (fiddle), and Robert Maynard (bass). It was a good move to do it all themselves this time because it's a crackerjack band.

In a few instances, (Make God Laugh, Red Bird, Prisoner on the Highway), their vocal arrangements also call for Rigsby to jump up to tenor on the choruses. "He Loves To Hear You Shout" (written by Dixie and Tom T. Hall) is a very nicely presented vocal quartet for the group with Rigsby, Vanderpool, Bartley and Wells doing the vocalizing.

While best known for his mandolin picking, Don's a versatile multi-instrumentalist, and it's a treat to hear him also provide some snippets of guitar, mandele, and fiddle. Two songs ("These Golden Fields" and "Any Bar in Birmingham") incorporate some of Don's light percussion. The former, about farming, features Don's high-lead singing with two harmonies below, as well as Wells' octave violin for a different mood. Obviously, quite a bit of forethought went into producing these songs in the best possible manner for us. In a few, the banjo is muted, and on the closing number, "I Am The Man, Thomas") Jesse Wells lays down his fiddle to provide clawhammer banjo as the only accompaniment for Don's voice.

Midnight Call's repertoire is drawn from some excellent songwriters (Shawn Camp, Marty Rabon, Jim Lauderdale, Mark Brinkman, Larry Shell, Kim Williams, Tim Stafford, and others). Bobby Cyrus is a co-writer of "Big Jim." I'm curious as to whether Big Jim is a fictional folkloric character or whether there was actually a man who sacrificed himself for others. You may recall that it was Cyrus who penned the reflective "Carved Our Names in Stone" that was sung solo by Rigsby on his last solo album, The Midnight Call. Farmers, family, life and love get ample coverage in the songs. For his song of home, he belts out an inspired rendition of Bill Monroe's "Kentucky Waltz." Another tale from that region is an intoxicating "Daddy Was A Moonshine Man." A standard instrumental, "Forked Deer" gallops along, but I hope their future projects introduce us to new tunes. Sung solo, "Old Green Chevrolet" relates a tale of a traveling preacher bringing the gospel to mountain folks, and I missed a little harmony on the choruses.

With "Hillbilly Heartache," evocative messages get us thinking, smiling, contemplating, and even laughing when the intoxicating "Daddy Was A Moonshine Man" cues up. This Kentuckian clearly has strong mountain roots, and he knows what it takes to produce a very compelling bluegrass album. His reputation and dedication to traditional music, and his innovative vision for the future, are well documented. While he may have stretched boundaries a bit in the past, "Hillbilly Heartache" is simply a hallmark album for a superb band to showcase its contemporary bluegrass. Don's standard of excellence is evident on this cd, his first as a bandleader, although I suspect his leadership qualities have been evident in all his previous endeavors.
The singing is first rate, the songs chosen classics, spirit filled, and wonderful. The band just kicks it up a few notches, and mellow its out as the song requires.
Highly Recommended.

Vern Gosdin is as good as it gets. All too often the comparison between Vern and George Jones is mentioned but when someone sings with such deep ache and soul as Vern does you can't ignore the similarity. Vern is just as good as George. They both sing straight from th epit of their stomach where grief and anquish sometimes linger too long.

Another Great Country CD By Vern.......2005-05-08

When I bought this CD I knew it was going to be good. The music is traditional country with a mixture of fast and slow songs. There are all the traditional musical instruments of fiddles, guitars, sliding guitars etc and once you play this CD, you play it over and over again. Just sit in your lounge, turn up the stereo so that the neighbours can hear it and drown in this great music. Thank God we still have traditional country music songwriters. Most of the so called country music put out today is more like rock and rap and I am sick ot it; this CD is just fantastic; it is real Country. I gave all tunes 5 out of 5, every tune is a masterpiece. I recommend you buy this CD if you are a genuine Country Music Lover. Thanks Vern for the true Country music. Henry from downtown AUSTRALIA.

Another great Vern Gosdin CD.......2003-11-26

This CD is all about lost love. When you realize the fact that you've pushed her love away so far that you can never get it back, becomes a RUDE awkening that makes you turn to the "bottle" and try to drown the memories you once had together. This CD hit me personally as I was there once years ago. Vern wrote all of the songs here so they're all heartfelt. This CD might not be for everybody, but I"m sure glad that I got it. I will however recommend it to all Vern Gosdin fans as only he can do justice to these songs with his rich baritone voice. There's not a bad song on this CD. It brings me back a lot of memories that I got over years ago. These songs hit the nail on the head and I want to commend Vern for writing and recording his true feelings. Finally, this CD is a gem. This album have a collection of part of the best of Bauhaus, so you will be saving in buying various cd's in order to have the songs that you'll find in this one. And it is a live concert. Bauhaus sounds better in live than in studio. For best performance, play it really loud.

I bought "Swing the Heartache" on vinyl back in 1991 (give or take a year). This is a good album that, for me, has stood the test of time. I've just listend to it again after nearly 15 years and it still sounds great and brings back lots of memories. If you're into the '80s style goth/new wave then buy this record. If you're more into the later and various incarations (e.g. Tones On Tail or Love and Rockets) you might not care for it much, but it's worth a spin regardless.

Bauhaus "BBC Session" Fun.......2005-04-05

While "Swing the Heartache" isn't exactly an essential Bauhaus album, it's a nice addition to your catalog if you're a fan. Consisting mostly of Bauhaus album tracks (before they actually made any albums) arranged differently than the versions found on the studio LP's, and a few B-sides/Rarities, "Swing the Heartache proves to be an interesting look into the imagination of Bauhaus' songwriting ability. While, yes, some songs on here ended up sounding identical on official releases, most of the (p)re-workings of Bauhaus classics can prove to be almost superior to those found on the records they found a home on down the road. Also showcasing some of Bauhaus' stranger moments, such as "Departure" and "Party of the First Part", this release is worth checking out if you're a fan.

This is a wonderful album that was played and recorded live in england (bauhaus' homebase). I would recommend it to anyone interested in modern/post-modern/post-punk/expressionistic/dark wave/new wave/ect. rock. I was genuinely tired of some of the versions of some of the versions of the songs on the other bauhaus albums like mask, burning from the inside, and the sky's gone out, so I went searching for live albums from this band in hopes of perhaps finding some fresher versions of these songs or maybe even some new material. I had already purchased an listened to bauhaus' press eject and give me the tape, loved it too much, and played it over and over again until I reached the point where I could not stand to listen again. And then I found this album. This album comes complete with some very haunting new versions of
A God in an Alcove, Double Dare, In Fear of Fear, and In the Flat Field, which I continue to enjoy undoubtedly. All of these songs come complete with rare chorus coming from the other band members . It also has some rare material at the end, which, if you can call them songs, are very interesting to say the least. I would go ahead with this one, you will not be disappointed. And for those of you who were wondering, yes, alot of bauhaus' songs are repeated in different recordings. But no, they are not all the same. They all seem to vary in terms of the atmosphere expediated from the band members' instruments and Peter Murphy's hollowing vocals.

modern music lovers must have.......2002-07-29

It's a must have - not just for Bauhaus\goth\punk\blah blah blah fans, but for anyone who is open to exploring & understanding contemporary music. It's a great collection of Bauhaus material, and the sound is so cool. I'm a huge fan of the BBC\John Peel sessions because the performaces are 'live' and the sound is raw. Thses recording let you hear what bands that are famous for their 'eletronic' sound actually sound like with minimal studio magic!

This group has released several albums over the years. None of them come close to this gem released in 1991. If you are looking for an introduction to this group, this is the one to get. The tracks on the CD are dark, brooding, but melodic with actual song structure. On several of their other albums, the listener gets lost in mostly unstructured noise. This one will not disappoint!

The soul of 1940s country music and the spirit of the three Hanks (Williams, Thompson, Snow) shine brightly and warmly in the hands of this crack Bay Area outfit. Dilks's sharp, strident voice and fierce yodels actually sound more like Williams acolyte Wayne Hancock than Williams himself (not necessarily an insult), and the band deftly mixes elements of honky-tonk, Western swing, country boogie, and even early rockabilly. Paul Wooton's lead guitar and Billy Wilson's steel provide plenty of instrumental muscle to support Dilks's very nifty originals while Brian Godchaux's prominent fiddling and mandolin playing add a Willslike dimension that similar acts such as Big Sandy's super Fly-Rite Boys lack. Though the music is sure to be tagged with a retro label, Dilks's quick-witted, light-hearted lyrics and his band's topnotch chops make this fine debut sound quite a bit fresher and livelier than most hot modern country. --Marc Greilsamer

This is a great country music CD. This is real country music in the tradition of Hank, Ernest, Lefty, et al. If you don't know who these people are there isn't much chance you will like this unless you have an open mind.
If you like Big Sandy and his Fly Right Boys or Wayne Hancock, you will be glad you got this one.

Some of the best damn country music ever put down. Johnny Dilks and his band of world-class country pickers do Hank, Lefty, Bob and Skeets proud with this one. Put Johnny Dilks right up there with the greats: Dale Watson, Hank Williams III, Big Sandy, Br5-49, Wayne Hancock, Junior Brown, The Derailers, Mandy Barnett, Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash, Moot Davis, Honky-Tonk Hangovers & Deisel Doug and the Long Haul Truckers.
God love these guys! They keep blood in the vains of REAL COUNTRY MUSIC.

Whats wrong with Johnny's voice?.......2005-08-12

Johnny has taken country back to where it never should have left- this is pure class, western swingin' country music at it's finest. If you like old Hank, or Wayne Hancock, or Bob Wills, your gonna like this. If you don't like those artists, go buy a Tim McGraw album and forget you even read this.
As for Johnnys voice, well, I guess...again, Hank Williams is an acquired taste as well. Anyway, I think he sings fine..."and I ain't afraid to turn your diaper down"

I wasn't wild about this album the first time I listened to it, mostly being put off by Johnny's nasal voice. But lately it's been getting a lot more play time on my car stereo (usually back to back with Hank Williams' Greatest Hits, an excellent compliment to this album). The music is a great send-back to the country styles prevalent in the early 50's: western swing, honky-tonk sendups, and close harmony. I enjoy the faster - paced numbers more than the ballads, but there's not a track on here I haven't caught myself singing along with lately.

...singing, then this CD is for you! the music is great, and after skipping through a few songs, i was almost wishing that it was all instrumentals. dilks' voice is just too thin and whiney to really make this cd stand out. apart from that, the band really does a great job and the playing is top notch... sadly enough, that wasn't enough to make me *not* return the cd...

The last and Best of Rozz.......2007-02-20

This was never meant to be or compared to ANYTHING Christian Death. Considering the nonsense that happened between Valor and Rozz Williams, I think Rozz wanted to get away from anything with Christian Death at that point.

This collaboration with Gitane DeMone, is hauntingly beautiful. Rozz did something the way HE wanted to. The addition of Gitane, one of the last great vocalists from C.D. just made this album, top in my book. The way she sings Manic Depression...it so unbelievable. She's got the voice of a siren and boy does she use it. I wouldn't say 'belting out' the songs...but if you know how Ms. DeMone sings, then you know what I'm saying. :) "Flowers" sung by Rozz, just takes you to a time and place, that if you ever saw the old C.D. you'd have good memories...but then realize that Rozz is no longer with us, you are moved by this song. I can go on and on, but I won't. AS a true fan of these two talents, I must say, it's worth it....

This album sounds like it was thrown together in a few days. The previous commentary comparing this to Catastrophe Ballet is absurd. This album is worse than even Valor's recent albums: Sexy Death God, the terrible album that it is, is better than Dream Home Heartache. I have experienced the pain of Rozz Williams -- in my wallet!

Very Un-Rozz like, but still very good........2004-06-19

I was surprised when I picked up this album. I've heard Christian Death before, but it sounded nothing like this. Rozz and Gitane (Both Christian Death members) created a side project, combining piano, accordians, and synthesizer in a moody blend of very dark and personal music. This album reveals a subdued and personal version of Williams, a side I'd never hope to see. Very good. I'd recommend this album to Rozz's fans, or even fans of folk music or bands like Black Heart Procession or The Cure.

A Beautiful Collaboration.......2003-01-01

This is truly a beautiful piece of art, Gitane Demone's and Rozz Williams's voices are beautiful and their poetry takes your breath away. Dream Home Heartache is a work of art with beauty intwined in dark layers of emotions.
