Purple Heart.......2005-06-18
Elizabeth Cook's "Hey Y'All" is an excellent debut. On Jessi Colter's "I'm Not Lisa," she revitalizes this excellent song that builds with a dramatic determined pace, "She left you here, drowning in your tears, here, where you've stayed for years." The set concentrates on uptempo toe tappers like the peppy opener "Stupid Things," but Cook equally excels when she slows the pace as on "You Move Too Fast" with her world-weary vocals, "This love won't last if we don't slow down." "Blue Shades" sounds like Elvis Presley era country, "Blue shades for red eyes so I can't see my purple heart." "God's Got A Plan" starts with a sermon before the Whites join in on the good-time track. Elizabeth Cook shows herself to be an excellent vocalist and songwriter whose country roots are sheer delight. Enjoy!
Almost the Best.......2004-04-02
Were it not for Tift Merritt this would have been the debut cd of 2002, and for those who want something more straight country than Merritt's blues and folk fusion, this probably was the debut cd of 2002. Here lyrics do tend to run towards hooks, however this cd winds up a text book of how to create a country album.
The album opens with the catchy and bright "Stupid Things." Next comes the more soaring "Rainbows At Midnight." This turns into the album's stand out track, the mountain melody "Mama You Wanted to Be A Singer Too." Next comes the hilarious swing of "Dolly," where she co-miserates with her idol over trying to be taken seriously as a cute blonde. She throws a dark sense of soul behind Jesse Colter's "I'm Not Lisa." Then she brightens up into her country girl next door swing for "Everyday Sunshine," a song asking a loved one to snap out of his dark mood. "You Move Too Fast" is a simple country waltz about taking a relationship slowly. "Deamon" is the one awkward spot, a clunky song about regretting the loss of one's virginity toppled even further by a dearth of unnecesary production. She redeems herself nicely though with the cathcy swing of "Blue Shades." Whispering Bill Anderson shows up to provide a typically amorous touch to the hardcore drinking song "Don't Bother Me." Next comes the lilting touch of "God's Got A Plan" where she proves as good as her word when she sings, "If I wrote a gospel song and it made me not belong/I'd sing it anyhow theough some may not agree/God's God a plan for me." The album ends on a triumphant note with the beautiful ballad tribute to her hometown "Ocala."
This cd will make you feel as though you are listening to many country women of the past. A less jaded Reba Mcentire, a younger Loretta Lynn, Lynn Anderson at her best. Although the lyrics can be a bit trite, the sheer joy she takes in the tradition of her music shines through and makes it all worth while.
At best, Pam Tillis with a head cold. Don't bother........2004-01-02
I was more than disapointed in this CD, especially after reading so many glowing reviews. I listened and re-listened to it over and over to find the source of my pain, and I realized it was her voice. Nasal, girly, totaly lacking of any real substance. It sounds like a Hee Haw mockery of country music. And then there is what she does to "I'm Not Lisa." In the original, country legend Jesse Colter can break your heart; her voice soft and pure, a country heartbreak song at it's best. Here, Cook misses the mark more than words can say. It is over-produced and devoid of any true emotion (much like her entire CD). In fact, she ruined the emotional "hook" that Colter added to the song. In the classic original, Colter changes the line at the end from "until the sunlight has touched your face" into "until the sunlight shines through your face." Cook completely missed this important difference. The songwriting is also sub-par, reading like the diary of an uninteresting junior high school girl ("Baby, your taking me to places I have never been" is as about as deep as she can make it). I would be able to listen to this CD if the vocals and words were removed, for the music is pretty good. I have already sold this CD back to the store (after 2 hours) and am mourning the loss of my money. Want to hear the real country sound that most reviwers are claiming Cook has?? Buy Jessie Colter.
Oh, to be an audience of one.......2003-06-14
Call me mushy (or Ishmael, if you wish), but I liked Jesse Colter's "I'm Not Lisa" when it was released a generation ago. My friends thought I was sappy (and worse), but it was always a fave.
Imagine, then, the goosebumps I felt when I heard the first few familiar strains on Cut 5 of Elizabeth Cook's "Hey Y'All". I usually preview a purchase cold - no liner notes, no discography, just the music. I went from "Wow, this sounds like . . ." to "OMG, is it? . . ." to "Ho Man!" and then silence so I could listen. Brought tears to my eyes it did. EC's pure, lonesome sound brought a plaint and pain to the song even the original lacked.
Even if this had been the only halfway decent cut, it still would have been worth it. But, guess what? There's a whole disc of great, original tunes crafted by a songstress who also wields an epitomal bluegrass voice.
(Sidebar: Alison Krauss is good. Nice songs, good voice, but NOT bluegrass).
Cook's high, woman-child tone can make you laugh with "Stupid Things" and "Dolly, Did You Go Through This?" and positively kill you with "Mama, You Wanted To Be A Singer Too" and, of course, cut 5.
If you like the real McCoy - the honest "Down From The Mountain" sound of a true bluegrass vocal style, you'll like Elizabeth Cook.
Very Nice.......2003-04-25
I just bought this CD today.... It's not the best I've ever heard, but it still is very good. "Stupid Things" is an excellent song.

Jack Ingram is another in the illustrious line of Texas singer-songwriters that extends from Willie Nelson through Jerry Jeff Walker, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, and Robert Earl Keen. His approach crosses Walker's folksy good-old-boy confessions with Earle's rebel-rock snarl. Hey You was recorded in Nashville with producer Richard Bennett and Ingram's band, the Beat Up Fords, and it's far and away his best studio work to date, conveying the sweaty honky-tonk and roadhouse-rock energy of his live shows while showcasing his maturity as a songwriter. He still has room to grow as a storyteller before he's on the level of a Van Zandt or an Earle, but he's already a better singer than most of his influences. --Rick Mitchell
Customer Reviews:
Jack Delievers Once Again.......2005-09-02
Why is it that every Jack Ingram album is my favorite Jack Album? Ingram continually puts out great music and thusly, great albums. Whether you are rocking out with "Barbie Doll" or "Mustang Burn" or daydreaming to "Biloxi" this album has something for everyone. Get it and you will NOT be dissappointed.
Barbie Doll.......2001-11-07
Okay so I watched this guy's video for the chick. But don't that song rock? I bought this cd and liked it better than the new one by Jay Farrar. I hate new country/alt country...all that's just talk. This is a collection of gritty prosaic songs. You can hear a little Steve Earle here and a touch of Tom Petty as well. Hank would be proud, but so would Van Zandt. These are songs you can feel, and sing along even if you haven't heard them before!
The Beat Up Ford Rolls On............2001-06-09
One word can sum up this recording...."WOW". Great writing, great vocals, just flat out great music from Jack and the Beat Up Ford Band. I bought this disc a little over a year ago, and I have YET to conjure up the gall to take it out of the changer. I can truly think of nothing short of a legend that could replace Mr. Ingram's spot in there. Richard Bennett was able to capture the beauty of Jack's writing and the energy and intensity of a BeatUpFord live show (which, by the way, if these guys come to your town, GO!). This disc is a MUST for any lover of what country music should be...
GREAT CD!!!.......2001-01-14
I bought this CD after hearing the song "Work This Out". That's the best song on this CD...but there are plenty more great ones. I love his voice and the simple, real country music...unlike what's taking over the radio. If you like Charlie Robison...heck even if you don't...you'll still love this CD.
MAN THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR.......2000-08-08
This is what Texas music is all about,Jack does a great job of balancing real country with an upbeat sound. Not exactly what were used to hearing out of Nashville.

Customer Reviews:
The Master of the Wind Orchestra.......2001-02-20
I know of no composer or arranger who writes more beautifully for wind orchestra than Percy Grainger. It is a difficult medium, much harder than an orchestra to make sound terrific. This is probably due to the lack of a single homogenous sound equivalent to the orchestra's strings. The woodwinds are too diverse in timbre, and the brass generally can't sustain (physically) the constant playing such a role demands. But Grainger consistently rises above these problems and gets the most gorgeous sounds from the group. Furthermore, he writes fascinating counterpoints and the whole is constantly filled with eccentric touches of harmony, orchestration, rhythm, and the like.
This recording, with the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Orchestra, is superbly played. Although one may quibble at times with such things as an occasionally too-wide saxophone vibrato, those are minor indeed. In particular, the classics of the wind orchestra literature, Irish Tune from County Derry and Linconshire Posy (the movements Harkstow Grange and Rufford Park Poachers stand out even in this august company), are magnificent in every respect. Also worthy of note is the Colonial Song, with its beautiful sonorities; and the vibrant percussion of The 'Gum-Suckers' March. This CD is a must-have for anyone interested in wind music, in the art of arranging, or simply in imaginative and fascinating music.
Simply Nice.......2000-04-07
This ensemble really does a good job playing on this CD--The Lads of Wamphray, Irish Tune from County Derry and Molly on the Shore in particular. Personally, I don't care for their interpretation of Lincolnshire Posy. However, it's still some great playing. Wonderful job!
They were born to play Grainger........1999-05-24
I have been playing Grainger since my freshman year in high school and never have I heard Grainger played with so much passion as when I listened to this recording of the Royal Northern College of Music. Lincolnshire Posy shines brighter than even the Eastman Wind Ensemble's greatest rendition. Bravo!

Your search for good Burns songs has ended.......2000-01-29
Jean Redpath sings the "inimitable songs of Burns" as if Rabbie himself is hovering over her shoulder. You're not likely to find too many singers more suited to her material than Redpath. Also, I needs must mention the first-rate musical accompaniments by Serge Hovey. All in all, the seven volume Redpath-Burns series is indispensible for lovers of song everywhere. Way to go, folks.

Every last note..........2006-06-14
A super budget 5 CD collection of all of Grainger's Piano music.
Every last note!
The shipping alone would be $17.00+ for the 5 individual Cds.
Englishman Martin Jones plays these as if he wrote them. He is thoroughly inside this music.
I think his best work to date.
He is joined on CD #5 by Richard Mcmahon and Phillip Martin. Where they rollick in various combos and trios on 1, 2 and 3 pianos. This is exhilerating. Especially on an truly uplifting version of Green Bushes.
The entire set is strongly idiomatic and given a clear, crisp, warm and spacious recording. FIRST CLASS sound.
There are too many highlights to single out, but the In A Nutshell Suite and Green Bushes are especially GOOD!
There is not a bad note or "vibe" on any of these CDs.
Highly recommended for Granger fans and fans of English Piano Music.

Grainger's delicious folk-song arrangements deserve a place in every collection, being not only charming, but absolutely unique of their kind. Grainger treated these lovely melodies the way a scientist examines a prime specimen, breaking them down into their component parts, and arranging most of them many different times--each version orchestrated and harmonized differently so as to examine the melodic material from every conceivable angle. He was particularly fond of what he liked to call "tuneful percussion," a collection of mallet instruments and bells that adds touches of bright color to his beloved tunes. This fine collection includes all of his most famous pieces in lively, sensitive performances. --David Hurwitz
Customer Reviews:
Fennell's Grainger & Coates.......2003-12-31
Famed American band conductor Frederick Fennell turned to British music in this highly enjoyable compilation of music by Percy Grainger and Eric Coates, who both lived during the first half of the twentieth century.
Grainger (1882-1961), who was actually born in Australia and later became an American citizen, authorized and approved the recordings of some of his more popular compositions and arrangements. Like Bela Bartok and Zoltan Kodaly, Grainger collected folk music and some of those pieces are represented on this CD. One of the most familiar tunes is "Irish Tune from County Derry," which is better known as the melody for "Danny Boy." It is given a particularly sensitive, lovely, and lyrical performance by the Eastman Rochester "Pops" Orchestra under Fennell.
The works are generally light and lively, expertly played by the musicians of the Eastman School of Music, where these recordings were made in 1959. The sound is typically top-notch, taken from the original triple track stereophonic tapes that were part of Mercury's "Living Presence" series.
Some of these pieces were originally written for piano. Grainger himself was a very capable pianist, as can be heard in some of the Columbia acoustical recordings he made in 1922. The orchestrations are generally rich and colorful.
"The Immovable Do" was inspired by a stuck note on a small organ. The "Do" is actually "doe," as in "do-re-mi." It is highly original and very charming.
All of the works have special, endearing qualities and are often very entertaining. In a way, this is classical music for people who say they don't like classical music; for those who do like classical music, this is a pleasant change-of-pace.
With the London "Pops" Orchestra, Fennell later recorded a three-movement suite by Eric Coates (1886-1957), who is best known for his light classical works, notably the "London Suite" and the "London Again Suite," works that Coates himself recorded for English Columbia (which usually utilized EMI engineers in London).
"The Three Elizabeths" pays tribute to three members of British royalty. "Halcyon Days" salutes Queen Elizabeth I; "Springtime in Angus" honors Elizabeth, the Queen Mother; and "Youth of Britain" honors Princess Elizabeth, who became Queen Elizabeth II. Typically, Coates music has great charm and memorable melodies. The performance here is quite delightful.
Shephard's Hey.......2000-04-11
I find this orchestra uncapable of meeting my standards with this piece. It should completely exhilarate and move you. This recording does neither.
Music from the Soil.......2000-03-29
Grainger was one of the group of British composers at the turn of the century who were fascinated by the oral tradition folk songs which were starting to disappear from the earth. Holst, Vaughan-Williams, Delius, Butterworth, all wrote distillations of this wonderful music. Grainger even recorded it. This recording does have a few oddities about it. Perhaps Fennell could be said to not have "been in touch with his feminine side", so slower, lyrical pieces may not his forte, but in some cases they can have a hypnotic quality. The County Derry certainly does have sentiment. His performances are marked with exhilarating virility, and he has a strong passion which maybe had a chance to show itself better with the wind ensemble recordings, but this one still has the Fennell energy and love. Also, he may have considered a symphony orchestra to be a wind ensemble surrounded by strings, but I forgive him it because he so lovingly "dished up"* a fine collection of Grainger for us, and anyway, Grainger may have shared the view as well. Grainger didn't give us a lot of time to see and feel the places and perceptions in any of his short pieces, but if you catch them, they are certainly there, and Fennell I think caught them and knew them as well. Molly on the Shore has these brief, mystical moments. Grainger is so worth pursuing, this recording is a must, and so are the other Fennell/Grainger recordings. I really don't think anyone has sensed the poignant beauties in Grainger's little jewels as well as Fennell. *Favorite Grainger phrase, e.g., "Molly on the Shore, Dished Up For Piano"
Good music but not top level perfromance.......1999-11-27
This CD holds some wonderful music (that of Percy Grainger) and I hold great respect for both Frederick Fennell and the University of Rochester. But there are a few flaws on this CD. First, the performing hall is about as dead as can be. There is are no acoustics that would normally add to such a performance. But that is a small detail. Second, one of my big complaints is Irish Tune from County Derry. The soft section featuring the high strings has sections that are played out of tune. And, in the background, a double bass can be heard tuning his strings or lightly playing for some reason I can't imagine. Third, I suppose my only other complaint would be that some of the performances seem rather flat. They just lack the emotion that these songs require. On the other hand, though, this CD holds some wonderful things. Country Gardens, Shepherd's Hey, Children's March, Mock Morris, and Handel in the Strand are all superbly done (aside from the small complaints made earlier). It boils down to this: If you really like Percy Grainger, then the CD is worth getting. If you dislike or only moderately enjoy Grainger's music, this CD is probably not worth getting.
Great composer, great conductor, great orchestra........1999-05-04
Children's March is fantastic, the clip doesn't do it justice. A great piece to listen to, especially with this fine orchestra and conductor, it's even more fun to play.

Hamelin's Percy Grainger, presenting not only old favorites but should-be favorites (absolutely delightful discoveries for many of us), played with breathtakingly deceptive and natural sound ease, in its superb control and subtle artistry, is perhaps one of the most riveting and satisfying to date -- a real delight. What marvellous melodic voicings, and such a gorgeous mastery of the pedals! Don't be hesitant in acquiring this; you should do so by any means necessary!
Clarity, simplicity and refinement is what Grianger craves.......2000-10-03
Grainger is soulfully direct engaging music. You cannot toss it off as simple, playful disarming bits of snap and pop for the musical imagination. Grainger was a deadly serious musician, and scoured countless musical genres, the piano, our fortune was his most cherished and sought after timbral center. Ample degrees of pure refined, tailored piano timbre you'll discover in this music, fine bits of grace notes to help colour a downbeat,or a flourish.Fine voicings of chords, and it is the ultimate mark of genius when you cannot imagine another realization of these finely wrought piano solos, even though their source was the voice. I think Hamelin needs this music to help deepen his own musucianship.Picasso said this of art, the problem is not becoming an artist, but remaining one, and, his fan club claims he sometimes plays a bit robotically passive, all furioso technique without an engaged soul,or emotive mannered bombast like Horowitz I suppose. Yet Horowitz knew how to create excitement without sacrificing deep musical committment,as the Carmen Variations.
Hamelin has been scouring the neglected piano repertoire, for quite some time, Alkan,Sorabji,Catoire,Medtner,Busoni, late Listz,Roslavets, Villa-Lobos,and quite recently Frederic Rzewski's political/mural ,the Variations on the powerful Chilean folk tune.I wish other pianists had this vision. The Jutish melody here did have a reference to a political situation, the Jute Mill was the site of rebellion in 19th century agrarian British culture.
Whether Hamelin puts off the overtly emotional is a matter of taste and judgement. I tend to get excited about clarity first, and Grainger's music begs for clarity, for if you ever heard excessive rubatos, and durational liberties, the content of the wonderfully simple melodies, their charm and reverie would have escaped into mediocrity and sacrificed at the head-block of performative indulgence. I think Hamelin treads a fine line, between what should emote and what should remain within the refinement of pianistic timbral clarity.
Fantastic Grainger Recital!.......2000-01-08
Strangely enough, there have not been too many recordings of Grainger's piano music. Martin Jones did a four disc set on Nimbus. But this set is good because it has his famous arrangements (Country Gardens, Irish Tune From County Derry, Shepherd's Hey) which makes this disc irresistible for someone looking for a one-disc survey. I was utterly surprised when this disc came out-Hamelin keeps on surprising me with his choice of repertoire! He is on his toes throughout, and in the lyrical music he is superb! My favorites are In Dahomey, which is Granger's version of Scott Joplin (he puts two tunes together) and the "MacGuire's Kick" from the Stanford Irish Dances (a transcription of a transcription!)Utterly fascinating, and beautifully recorded.

Boy, is THIS Rare!.......2004-11-16
That's not a question. Used to be, in the days of LPs, there would be available hit songs from the past but if you weren't careful, you'd buy and find out they were not by the original artists but by Joe Banana and the Five Peels. The people who compiled this ripoff have a lot of nerve! One star each for Mark Dinning's "All of This for Sally" and The Amazing Rhythm Aces' contribution. Really!
More obscurities - mostly.......2002-03-03
Another 27 mostly minor hits and misses from the late 50s into the mid-70s with a few decent-charting hard-to-find sides thrown in, served up by the Mavis outfit in Canada. While some of these titles may sound familiar, these versions are by artists whose version took a back seat, or in some cases took no seat at all, to the real hit version. Bill and Doree Post's version of "Sixteen Reasons" had no chance against Connie Stevens' top-10 version. The "Alley-Oop" version here by Dante and the Evergreens, while second to the Hollywood Argyles' monster hit at least outdid a third version by the Dyna-Sores. Garry Miles' "Look For A Star" actually edged out versions by Garry Mills and Deane Hawley. Jimmie Rodgers treatment of "Wreck Of The John B", much more in the folk style of the song's origin, was virtually ignored and the song unknown until the Beach Boys made a top pop hit out of it in 1966. Tracey Dey's pounding version of Patience and Prudence's squishy 1956 hit "Gonna Get Along Without You Now" deserved more attention on the charts than it received in 1964. While the versions of songs here are mostly the losing ones, that is part of what makes this collection more interesting in that it doesn't recycle the same tunes found in other compilations. There are a few sides included for their sheer idoicy alone such as the so-called Alfred E. Neuman's "It's A Gas", the vocals of which consists entirely of belches. The downfall here, as with the other volumes in this series, is the mediocre sound quality that at times is fairly miserable - tracks 10 and 18 are particularly ragged. Of these needle drops, at least a few - 13,15,25 are from stereo discs and sound reasonably clean. Following the theme of this series, this volume provides some more obscure hits and misses for those who are seeking out some of these truly rarely, if ever, found-on-CD tunes. As the track listings were not supplied at the time of this review they are listed below.
1) (Make With) The Shake - Mark IV; 2) I've Got A Lot To Learn - Kenny Rogers; 3) Bewitched - Betty Smith Group; 4) Tennessee Waltz - Jerry Fuller; 5) Starry Eyed - Garry Stites; 6) Marina - Rocco Granata; 7) I'll Walk The Line - Don Costa; 8) Everybody Outta The Pool - Lifeguards; 9) Bad Boy - Marty Wilde; 10) Alley-Oop - Dante & Evergreens; 11) Look For A Star - Garry Miles; 12) Sixteen Reasons - Bill & Doree Post; 13) Wreck Of The John B - Jimmie Rodgers; 14) Hello Fool - Ralph Emery; 15) I Could Have Loved You So Well - Ray Peterson; 16) All Of This For Sally - Mark Dinning; 17) It's A Gas - Alfred E. Do these guys have a Conductor?.......2002-05-31
I am a very hearty Percy Grainger fan, but I am very dissappointed with the quality of the pieces on this CD. While the strings and Phillip Martin on the piano seem to carry their weight fairly well (the recording of Mock Morris is very nice), the wind players leave much to be desired. Balance and stylistic problems plague this CD. The first trumpet plays decent but can't time his breaths worth anything and the low woodwinds and brass put out a pitiful amount of sound. The flute's interpretation in "Blithe Bells" is stylistically terrible. There is also a horrible electronically synthesized solo in "Green Bushes" (Imitating Bassoon maybe???) which completely destroys that piece. Overall I'm very unhappy with this CD. If you're looking for Grainger, purchase the Chandos Grainger Edition CD's with the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Ensemble. Those CD's are vastly superior to this poor attempt at Grainger.

Get me to Austin.......2003-04-19
After I heard Toni Price on NPR a bit over a year ago, I immediately bought all of her CD's and have not been the least bit disappointed. Her voice is truly a gift and her band strikes all the right notes. This is just great music! Her albums are all good, no, make that great. I just wish I didn't have to go to Austin to see her, though it ain't a bad place to be...
Sure.......2002-06-28
Despite the cover that looks like an advertisement for a deodorant, this is a very good CD. There are not the blockbuster tracks like on "Midnight Pumpkin," but this is a very good set. "Dean & Brandy" is driving outlaw rock, "Two young kids gotta pay for what they did." Acoustic guitars blend beautifully on "Something," "I got a heart, but it just ain't pumping; I gotta fill it up with something good." The title track is full of twangy guitars, "I may be guilty of trying too hard; I didn't know it wasn't right." "Edge of the Night" is my favorite track on the CD, a rocker. "Misty Moonlight" is heart-of-Dixie country with fiddles and guitar pickin'. "Too Close to You" is a great rocker with a searing electric lead guitar. Toni sounds like she's doing a cover of Elvis' "Heartbreak Hotel" on "I Don't Want You." "It's 2 a.m. & this bar is closed; How did I get here? Heaven only knows," Toni sings on "Boozy Blues." Fiddles give a bluegrass feel on the pensive folk tune "Tumbleweed." Ms. Price does a pretty rendition of Butch Hancock's "Bluebird." Toni goes through the subterranean paces on Dylan's "Obviously 5 Believers," a song not often covered. The CD concludes with a hoedown that'll put a smile on your face, "Too Much Coffee." Toni's work here is sure and certain. Her band is top notch. Enjoy!
SSSSH...........SHE'S A WELL KEPT SECRET.......2001-11-13
It never ceases to amaze me how much great talent there is in Austin that continues to fly under the radar screen. In this case it's a girl named Toni who can belt it out with the best of em. This is Toni Price's second album, after her equally good debut "Swim Away". If you're expecting this to be a country/folk album, well....your half right. The other half is well done Texas blues mixed with a little rock and roll. She is equally adept at both styles, which makes her a notch above most other women vocalists. And in the same league as somebody like Bonnie Raitt. She's that good, and she's got a band of some of Austin's finest musicians to back her up. The guitars of longtime Austin veterans Derek O'Brien and David Grissom from Joe Ely's band really give this cd a lot of bite. Price admits she's not a songwriter, but fortunatly she has an excellent songwriter, Gwil Owen, to handle those duties. When she's not cuttin' her teeth on Owen's material, she's doing some well chosen covers of songs like Bob Dylan's "Obviously 5 Believers" (a great rocked up version). An excellent blues song with Harry Carter's "I Don't Want You". And her voice is just tailor made for Butch Hancock's country jewel "Bluebird". The catchiest song on here is the folk/country diddy "Something". This one I guarantee will have you hittin' the repeat button. The album closes with "Too Much Coffee". An ultra fast country rocker that sounds like it's being played by a band that has just a little bit too much caffeine in the bloodstream. Price has trafficked in many styles of music here. And for me it all works well. You might call this Texas roots music. I just call it.... grrrreat!
Great Austin Sound.......2000-07-19
Toni's voice has a bluesy quality and that great Austin sound. Looking forward to hearing more from this artist and would like to see her tour outside the Texas area. She should come to Chicago!
Hey Toni's Got that right.......2000-01-09
Like Emmylo Harris, Toni Price is a voice that charms every time one hears it. And, like Emmylou, Toni is trulyn gifted in selecting songs and surrounding herself withe the best musicians. I have literally listened to this album over 100 times since getting it the day it came out. "Tumbleweed" and "Misty Moonlight" alone will make you a fan for life. Toni's the best.
