Product Description
His songs have been recorded by the likes of Roger Miller, Glenn Campbell, Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Earl Thomas Conley, The Allman Brothers, Deana Carter, Lila McCann, Trace Adkins, Brooks & Dunn…

It was upon meeting fellow songwriter, producer and former member of the group Bread, Robb Royer, that the focus, style and direction was achieved for Micheal’s CONJURE MAN recordings.

"Imagine meeting Randy Newman at his home…imagine he had never played his to anyone. Then suddenly you see a stack of song demos in the corner of the room, 500 of them…Smotherman is like that. I just scratched the surface of his work to produce CONJURE MAN. I feel that these, and probably a hundred others, are ‘artist songs’… that you fully understand only when you hear them by the writer/performer. Micheal is that kind of artist," says Royer.

"Quincy Jones meets Roger Miller at Ray Charles' party in New Orleans kind of music". - Micheal Smotherman

5 out of 5 stars Sounds like Gary Morris, Great music, Great Artist, Great Sound!.......2006-07-19

Micheal Smotherman is unique on his own as an lyricist and a vocalist. I will say that his style on this particular cd is very similar to the one of the greatest vocalist of all time, Gary Morris. Micheals' "Angel Mine", sounds so much like Gary that it's pleasant to the heart and ear. I've met Gary Morris in 97 and had the pleasure to hear him on several occasions and his raw vocal range is incredible. When listening to Gary live, one wonders how he sings with this extreme vocal and dynamic sound with little to no effort. To my knowledge, Gary was the first country vocalist to crossover and dabble with opera. Gary did La Boheme with Linda Ronstadt in New York back in the late 80's. He further played the lead role in a Les Miserables as Jean Valjean with Cameron Mackintosh production with orchestral score by John Cameron. This special production played around the world with Gary Morris only performing in New York and Los Angeles. The three cd complete symphonic recording is stunning, especially to have a good ole boy from Texas play the lead character. Micheals' displays a similar sound, but not quite the flawless range as Gary. No doubt Micheal has been successful by his talent as song writer and as a performer. In the music industry one must prove and outshine the competition to have a lasting presence; Micheal Smotherman has proven this reality. He is a credible artist on his own right and to be compared to Gary Morris, personally, is a great compliment. JFG

5 out of 5 stars He's Back!!!.......2006-02-25

Michael's first album is still one of my favorites. This eclectic journey continues the fun music that he is so well known for. Too bad it has taken so long to get another album out of him!!!
