Country classics from an early '50s idol.......2004-03-19

It's tempting for fans of honkytonk and hard country music to overlook George Morgan as just another Eddy Arnold-like countrypolitan crooner... It turns out, though, that he was really one of Music City's best singers - a soulful romantic in the Carl Smith-ish heartsong style. This excellent CD collects some of Morgan's best material from the early '50s, and makes a strong case for reevaluating his place in country music. If you enjoy sentimental country songs, but can live without the goopy, overwrought production the Nashville usually piled on top during this time period, then this collection might be just what you're looking for... I totally love it!

This disc is a fine compliment to the "Room Full Of Roses" collection on Razor & Tie Records, including nearly twenty tunes not on that album. Partly, this is due to ASV's sticking to Morgan's early years, but it's still a pleasure to hear material from this dimly-remembered country crooner. Sweet, sentimental stuff, sung with a Crosby-like ease. Also includes a couple of duet tracks recorded with Rosemary Clooney, who was also on the Columbia label at the time; they didn't exactly tear up the charts, but they do showcase Morgan in an overtly "pop" framework, another nice touch in a fine selection of old-fashioned hillbilly hits. Recommended!

Candy Kisses----George Morgan.......2005-01-18

George Morgan by far had one of the smoothest voices I've heard. It's unfortunate he didn't get more recognition for his great singing voice. His daughter Lorrie also has a fine voice and the 2 of them singing "From This Moment On" cannot be equalled by any performers. I highly recommend this C/d and I'm glad to add it to my collection

I am a 20 year old visually impaired boy and I have always been a huge fan of the old time country music. What a voice George Morgan has! He along with Eddy Arnold and Roy Drusky have one of the most beautiful voices ever in country music. This box set is definitely a must for all country music fans! I have this set and I think the best song from this set is Where There's A Will There's A Way. The highlights on this set is a beautiful album George did sometime in the early 60's entitled Golden Memories and t his has song such as Danny Boy, Beautiful Dreamer, etc. Another highlight is an album he did with Marion Worth which is definitely a listen to! UK compilation for act long collected by fans of the girl group genre, this New York trio recorded a handful of rare singles for Cameo and Scepter in the mid-1960's. Produced by Jerry Ross, 'The 81' was later a massive hit on the northern soul scene, other tracks were produced by Ashford & Simpson. This is the first-ever compilation devoted to Candy & The Kisses. It includes all their recordings for Cameo and Scepter, including 3 previously unissued tracks 'Lookie, Lookie (What I Got)', 'All You Gotta Do' & 'One Sweet Kiss'. 2001 release.

When I was a spotty young adolescent groovin' in my bedroom to the soul groups of the sixties my favourite ever single was Candy & the Kisses "81" a fabulous voice, tight arrangement and an atmosphere to dress any teenage angst scenario and now I have found an album of this very very underrated girl group over shadowed by the Shirelles et al but this has worn so well that it is cutting edge retro pop now. Take a listen and if you ever just wanted to get up and dance and you have worn out a half century of birthdays pop this in your basket NOW

Just a correction.......2001-06-21

I love Karen Mok, both as an actress and a singer, but the other reviewer is wrong. She not the "oriental jenni". Ms. Mok has her own style and is much more musically adventurous than Ms. Lopez. Her voice sometimes sounds unsteady, but that's part of her charm. At least you can hear her voice, with a J-Lo song you can't tell who's singing.

This CD maybe is not the best of all her CDs but she's still keeping the style she sings. She is confident about what she is doing and that is what make her music so special. If u like Jennifer Lopez and i can tell you karen is really an oriental 'jenni'. This album is highly recommended!!
