Music Mill Entertainment has compiled four volumes of material showcasing Shreveport's popular and influential Louisiana Hayride show of the '40s, '50s, and '60s. Volume 1 highlights a true historic moment: Hank Williams's September 13, 1952, return to the Hayride following his dismissal by the Opry, which included a slipshod performance of "Jambalaya." Ray Price, in his honky-tonk prime, sings "Crazy Arms." Webb Pierce performs his 1955 hit "I Don't Care." Jim Reeves provides a masterful rendition of "Am I Losing You," and Johnny Cash returns as a guest to sing his 1959 classic "Five Feet High and Rising." George Jones's rendition of his 1964 hit "The Race Is On" clearly hails from a later Hayride incarnation, since by then, the weekly show had ended. Hayride Lives.......2001-11-01

The Louisiana Hayride is like the slightly disreputable, sometimes drunk, sometimes sorry bachelor uncle of the Grand Ole Opry. Not as uptight and willing to have electric guitars, drums and genre shakers like Elvis, Johnny Horton and others on it's show. The quality of this series of recordings is really good considering they were taped forty or fifty years ago! Get them all! Also check out Louisiana Hayride Years (a book) by the Louisiana cat that oversaw the whole thing. Stories and insights that were new to me.

A Welcome Addition to The Barn Dance Recordings.......2000-04-05

The release of this new series on The Louisiana Hayride is a welcome addition to the long-neglected history of Americas' barn dances of the last century. Like the recent double CD set on Dallas' Big "D" Jamboree, this material is culled from the golden era of country and early rock and roll, giving us invaluable glimpses into the "live" sounds of many legends, and legends-to-be. Even though the between-song patter and ambiance of this famous show is mostly left off of these sets (quick fade-outs are usually the norm here), the material stands on its own as a highly recommended listen for anyone interested in authentic American roots music.
