Item purchased for a friend who gave it to friends or relatives in Norway.

The CD received before his trip to Europe which was much appreciated.

5 out of 5 stars CALIFORNIA DREAMIN.......2007-01-12

This CD put out by any other band except the Mamas & the Papas, would be considered a BEST OF CD.

5 out of 5 stars California Dreamin'.......2005-09-30

What a wonderful CD! I had the tape years ago and finally have the CD and I love the quality and it was shipped quickly to boot!

1 out of 5 stars Horrid recording!!.......2004-02-24

While I only paid $5.99, that was still WAY too much for such a horrible recording! All the songs sound tinny and like they were recorded in a can. Even the "transfered from analog tape" disclaimer doesn't excuse the poor quality. I'd take it back if I could. My advice is find the vinyl and make your own CD!!!

3 out of 5 stars Cheap price, 2 big hits, but caveat emptor.......2003-05-29

The Mamas & The Papas are probably the most overrated pop band from the 1960's. They are renown for two flawless pop classics, both included here("California Dreamin'" and "Monday Monday"). Their two best smaller hits were "Go Where You Wanna Go"(also here)and "I Saw Her Again"(not here). What's left on this CD is filler: hollow nostalgia(cutesy for the '60's)and poor cover versions. Bypass this and get "Greatest Hits" with the live shot on the front. It has 20 songs, is remastered, and gives you a broader overview of the band's talents. They're still overrated, but at least on the other CD you get "I Saw Her Again" and their pretty version of "Dedicated to the One I Love". C+

Never before has Patty Loveless mediated so gracefully between bluegrass tradition and superior songcraft from a wide range of sources. Fiddles and mandolins abound throughout Dreaming My Dreams' largely acoustic arrangements, but they are put to the service of material that extends from a propulsive, album-opening rendition of Richard Thompson's "Keep Your Distance" to the rollicking honky-tonk of Delbert McClinton's "Same Kind of Crazy" to the title-song reverie, a signature tune for the late Waylon Jennings. Loveless teams with Dwight Yoakam for a revival duet of the Delaney & Bonnie hit "Never Ending Song of Love," while Emmylou Harris adds soulful harmonies to "When Being Who You Are Is Not Enough." A mood of meditative melancholy pervades much of the music, as exemplified by the intimacy Loveless brings to Steve Earle's "My Old Friend the Blues." The selection of stellar material showcases and broadens Loveless's range as an interpretive stylist, one of the finest in contemporary country. --Don McLeese

5 out of 5 stars Patty "the Hottie" Loveless--Burning up the Tracks.......2007-01-10

On these tracks Patty Loveless does the perfect merge of Bluegrass and Country/Western.

Her dulcet tones waft achingly above the mainly acoustic instrumentation, while the more electric sounds of her style of Country/Western add edge to the overall sound.

Do NOT miss the awesome harmony between herself and Dwight Yoakam on the classic, "Never Ending Song of Love."

5 out of 5 stars She's Great -- As Always.......2006-11-15

As a huge fan of Patty Loveless, I am already inclined to like her music. That said, fans will not be disappointed, and those who aren't fans will be pleasantly surprised. She dives into the 12 tracks (plus a bonus snippet) and, as always, her voice carries an honesty that goes straight to the heart, as well as to matters of the heart: Listen carefully to "When Being Who You Are Is Not Enough" or "Everything But the Words." There's more to life than heartache, of course -- "Never Ending Song of Love for You" -- and, in the next track, how can you resist a song that includes the line "Girl, you're crazy as a bat, you ain't gonna marry that!"

In addition to her band, she enlisted several names you'll recognize: Lee Roy Parnell, Emmylou Harris, Dwight Yoakam and bassist Barry Bales among them. Embrace your inner twang -- you'll be singing along and tapping the steering wheel in short order.

5 out of 5 stars EVERY CUT STRONG!!!.......2006-10-28

I really didn't expect this CD to be this good but every cut is great. She covers several different style songs here and some are real gems. I especially like "Nobody Here By That Name" and her cover of Delbert McClinton's "Same Kind Of Crazy As Me". The arrangements are tight and very good musicians and backing vocals. Emmylou appears on "When Being Who You Are Is Not Enough" and is great as usual. Her duet with Dwight Yoakam on "Never Ending Song Of Love" is well done. Albert Lee plays guitar on a lot of cuts and Lee Roy Parnell plays slide on "Old Soul"

4 out of 5 stars Another great sing-along-with-Patty-CD!.......2006-09-01

One of the best aspects of Patty Loveless' musical choices, as well as her voice, is that she can take you from sad to happy and back in three-songs flat! Here she accomplishes that feat once again. I especially enjoyed "When Being Who You Are Is Not Enough" and "My Old Friend the Blues." The former is a superb melancholy song with an underlying hope of resolve, accepting who you are when "the right one" doesn't.

4 out of 5 stars Great album by a great country singer........2006-08-28

I really like this album. Patty has the definitive country voice and works magic with the songs. The sound is much the same as the last album, but it focuses on older tunes rather than newly written songs.
My only and biggest complaint is that I can't enjoy this on my mp3 player because of the built in copy protection. It's going to kill the music industry faster than pirating, since I believe most people will just stop buying albums with it. I know I won't buy any more.

Trace Adkins is deservedly one of country's brightest young stars of the late 1990s, a new-school traditionalist with a strong voice that prowls the octaves, and songs that empathize with country's working-man roots. Most importantly, though, he has an excellent sense of humor--Adkins's songs delight in clever wordplay, double entendres, and smart, funny lines that might make even non-country fans smile. The highlight here is the country hit "I Left Something Turned on at Home," which as you might suspect, isn't the iron, but rather his wife. Elsewhere he hits all the traditional themes: tough guys falling in love, cheatin' spouses, and odes to Texas. --David Daley

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!.......2003-06-24

This guy has a wonderful deep voice, and I also have practially worn this CD out from playing it so much! My favorite song is also "I Left Something Turned On At Home". I first heard the song on a multiple artist CD and loved it, so immediately bought this CD and after this one eventually bought all of his CD's. They are all great! Trace Adkins is great to listen to, and also not unfortunate to look at either!

5 out of 5 stars Very inspirational CD!!!.......2003-05-23

Trace has a distinctive voice that you know is him when you hear it. His ballads as well as his honky-tonkers are great. If you buy this CD, you wont be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Every Light in the house is on.......2002-01-09

I thought that Every Light In the House is on is the best song that he has ever writin. This is the cd you should buy if you want one to listen to. He is a great artist and I think that this song is the perfect song for a lot of families. If you want to hear a great song, this is the one.

5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2001-03-04

Trace Adkins debut is totally rockin'. He has a different sound from the usual country sound. He brings with him some awesome lyrics to go with his pure baritone voice. The Violin player rocks too. Guitars are sweet... everything fits together nicely. Another cool thing about him is how the songs are witty and funny in a way. Mr. Adkins is by far my favorite "country" artist and maybe one of my favorite artists in any genre of music. So, grab the CD if you like country or not cause if you dont I'm sure this will turn you on to it.

4 out of 5 stars Great compilation.......2002-05-10

I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings.

1 out of 5 stars A disappointment.......2001-12-15

There's a reason you've probably never heard of most of the songs and shows on this album, not to mention most of the artists. This is a second-rate collection of second-rate numbers performed by mostly second-rate artists. In the case of the shows that were revivals, the performances on the original cast recordings were better. Don't waste your money.

4 out of 5 stars Rockabilly's GONE; Get OVER It.......2004-11-11

There is apparently no shortage of Johnny Burnette AND Johnny Burnette Trio music for sale. NOR does there seem to be a real dearth of people who seek to make themselves seem "interesting" by worshipping, say, the pre-Stevie Nicks Fleetwood Mac OR the UNSUCCESSFUL Johnny Burnette Trio who were among the first to do rockabilly music. They are tenacious, but the fact is FEW PEOPLE CARE! Enjoy the single hits from 1960-61 even if there is no respectable "I've Got a Lot of Things To Do" or "One-Eyed Jacks", a respectable "B" side not used in the Brando movie of the same name. Of some interest too is "Drinkin' Wine Spo-de-o-dee" dating back to the 1940s. But these JB Trio fanatics are worse than those who booed Bob Dylan for going electric. They can't be appeased. And you may want to try The Best of Johnny Burnette-You're 16 for a better overall compilation.

4 out of 5 stars Sounding Good.......2003-07-11

In addition to his biggest hits (Dreamin', Your Sixteen, etc.) this CD has numerous tunes I had not heard Johnny B. sing before. I Beg Your Pardon and Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee are a couple of examples I liked best. If you yearn for 60's music, I think you'll like this CD.

1 out of 5 stars How the mighty fell.......2002-10-30

Johnny Burnette died, we're told, in a boating accident in 1964. Would it be insensitive to suggest that, having helped to set the world on fire as leader of the Rock and Roll Trio in the 1950s (see Rock Billy Boogie, also available on Amazon.com; you wouldn't believe it was the same person), he drowned himself rather than carry on singing this teenage idol dreck? On this album, only Sweet Suzie gives a hint of the real Johnny. Forget the rest.

5 out of 5 stars Strong vocal talent backed by electronic club grooves.......2005-11-22

A previous reviewer mentioned "Every song is great. Usually there are a few songs that I like on a cd, but I like all of Sharyn's stuff," and I couldn't agree more. Ok, I'll admit there's ONE track I don't listen to because it's a ballad (I'm not big on slow, soft songs), but fortunately the rest of this album is all upbeat, freestyle-funky club tunes.

I truly hope there will be another album by Sharyn some day, as she is very talented. This lengthy album is consistently melodic and fun. It is difficult to highlight individual songs since they are all so strong, but I'll point out a strong track for the dance floor is the disco-like cut, "When the Record Spins," and then there's... no, I'm going to end up going through all of them, never mind. Get this CD!! This album is also very cheap to buy via the Amazon Marketplace, so spring a buck or two, it's worth much more, trust me.

4 out of 5 stars Unique Voice and Thoughtful Lyrics (4.5 stars).......2004-05-26

Even with all the underrated singers, very few people have heard of the freestyle artist from the Phillipines, Sharyn Maceren. No one that I know has heard of her which is a shame since Sharyn is a very talented artist. She wrote every song, music and lyrics, on her album Always Dreamin'. I am usually not a fan of freestyle music, or most upbeat tracks for that matter (I prefer ballads) but this album really caught my attention. I listened to samples of many of the tracks online first and was impressed with Sharyn's unique vocal style, lyrics and catchy music. Sharyn's music mostly sounds like it was made for clubs but it is still highly enjoyable even if you are not a fan of this style.

The album kicks off with the almost hypnotic "A Little More Time", which is an upbeat song about a breakup. The song captivated me from the first lines. ("I heard them say that breaking up is hard to do. I guess they lied `cause it was so easy for you. You left me all alone without a reason why. Just see you walk outside the door and say goodbye."). The entire song has well-written lyrics like those and it is easy to relate to. It is definitely a great start to the album. The next song, "You're Not Ready" is about how Sharyn's boyfriend thinking that they are getting too serious. The vocals in this song are amazing as are the lyrics. Next comes "Rainbow", a highly repetitive track that isn't quite up to the standards of the first two. There is nothing particularly bad about it, it merely does not showcase Sharyn's talents as well. Fourth, there is "A Love Divine" which is one of the slower tracks on the album. Sharyn pulls off this romantic song beautifully and the lyrics are quite touching.

The next track, "When The Record Spins", is a song that seems to have been made purely for the clubs. The song is a decent enough dance track but it does not showcase Sharyn's talents as well. Following that is one of my personal favourites, "In Just One Night." This one tells a great story of how Sharyn always feared that her boyfriend would cheat on her but one night she decided to pretend she was single and go out with someone. But, her boyfriend found it. Though it is a very clichéd topic, Sharyn makes it into a heartbreaking, lyrically impressive song. The only downside to the track is towards the end where it adopts a stuttering beat. Next comes the title track, "Always Dreamin", which has a good idea behind it but Sharyn just can't make it work well. Beautiful vocals and lyrics as always though, which save the song from being a complete disaster. The subsequent track, "Call Me", is another personal favourite. Sharyn sounds genuinely confused and hurt when she sings about her boyfriend not calling after a fight. ("Yesterday, I sat up waiting for your call, to hear you say, that fight meant nothing at all. But here's today, and still no call from you.") The storyline is somewhat clichéd again, but Sharyn pulls it off beautifully.

The next four tracks on the album, "Ain't No Love", "New", "I Love To" and "Love's High" are not quite up to the same level as others like "You're Not Ready". Like "Rainbow", there is nothing wrong with them. All of them are beautifully written and well sung but there is little to distinguish one from the other. "Ain't No Love" is one of the (vocally) quieter tracks but the lyrics are fairly repetitive and it tends to blend into the background. "New" is probably the most individual of these four tracks and it seems to be about wanting to feel "new, as if we never touched before." "I Love To" is probably my least favourite track on the album since it is very repetitive and the lyrics are not quite as good as usual. It is not particularly bad, it is just not quite as good as several other tracks on the album. "Love's High" is another vocally quite track. It is quite good lyrically but tends to be somewhat dull when you listen to it.

Next comes "One And One" which is one of the better tracks. It's a flirty kind of song where Sharyn sees a guy at what seems like a dance club and wants him to come and dance with her. It is lyrically simple but it is sung so well that it does not matter. Next we have "Hard To Get" which was originally sung by S Factor, though I do not know who that is (Sharyn Maceren under another name perhaps?). Either way, it is an incredible dance track how Sharyn wants a guy who, obviously, is hard to get. The song is repetitive but it's repetitive nature fits with the tune. The next track, and a debatable highlight, is "Sharyn Uncovered" which is just Sharyn and a piano doing renditions of three of her songs. It truly shows Sharyn's vocal talent and gives us a brief look at her personality. The final two tracks are remixes of "A Little More Time" and "Rainbow" which are no better or worse then the originals.

Overall Mark: 4.5/5

Overall, "Always Dreamin" by Sharyn Maceren is a delightful freestyle album that many people will find something to enjoy on. I myself am not generally a fan of upbeat songs (I prefer ballads since they display more emotions) but I thoroughly enjoy this album and it has opened my mind to other kinds of music. My only concerns about this album are that since all of the tracks are upbeat, it is generally difficult to pick up on any emotions in the vocals and that a couple of the tracks (namely the middle four) can be somewhat bland at times. Otherwise, this is an amazing album with catchy songs, thoughtful lyrics and beautiful vocals.

5 out of 5 stars Why isn't she on MTV!!!!!!!!.......2004-01-04

Every song is great. Usually there are a few songs that I like on a cd, but I like all of Sharyn's stuff. Her voice is simple, clean and fresh. Love it, plus she writes her own music and lyrics! Truly talented. I would love to see some videos for these songs.

I hope she goes far!
Lovin it and playin it in Chicago!

I have seen and met this talented Freestyle singer/songwriter at a Freestyle concert near the Bay area and her album is off the hook.It should of got alot more airplay like "just one night" and "when the record spins"one of the best new Freestyle atrists out there.Talented new Freestyle artists are hard to come by also look for anything from Christina Marie(her vocal range is amazing)and Nick colon, zoe,Michelle Diaz,nu image, and anything by Synthia Figueroa. Those are the latest freestyle artists making some excellent Freestyle music.
