Editorial Reviews

Brian Hendrickson,WFHB Radio, Bloomington, IN
...a very evocative and eloquent CD on a scale that reaches not only from both oceans, but back into the distant folds of time itself.

Product Description:
"Buffalo Republic" is the second in a trilogy continuing the historical theme begun with "Buffalo Cafe." Ten new songs provide melodic snapshots of people, events and legends as Jack Gladstone chronicles the transformation of Western American culture. Touching on the mythological period, "Shadow in My Dreams" tells the story of Blackfeet superhero Kut-toy-is. Two songs cover the Lewis and Clark expedition, including the heart wrenching epic "In Search of York." The dark side of Manifest Destiny emerges in a ballad about the Cherokee people entitled "For Those Who Cried." "Go Fishin'" is a fun little ditty about the therapeutic value of fishing, while "To Build A Fire" is a sobering reckoning with the ambition found in gold fever. Said Gladstone, "I feel this is, by far, the best produced album of my career. If I was to pick my dream band, the players on this album would be it."

5 out of 5 stars Great Story Teller.......2002-12-15

We too came across Gladstone's CDs (we bought 2) in Glacier Park. His music is wonderful and the stories great. We like the folk style, much like Gordon Lightfoot but enough difference to be unique. When we can find them we will buy the rest of his collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2001-07-21

I was camping with my family in Glacier Park a few weeks ago and was very happy to hear Jack Gladstone. He was performing at Many Glacier. He was excellent! We bought two CD's right away and plan to order more. He is a fine entertainer. He gives a different perspective on the history we were taught. His singing is somewhat like Gordon Lightfoot only better.

I was brousing a gift shop in Apgar Village in Glacier National Park last weekend with some familiar, yet different ballads in the background. I was searching the scattered CD's on the display cabinets for whom I was certain was Gordon Lightfoot singing a ballad I was not familiar with.

The shop owner told me that I was looking right at the album being played, that by Jack Gladstone. Not sure where I have been all these years in Montana, but this Montana-Native American balladier has impact, relevent lyrics, harmony and super backups. It becomes even better when one reads along the words that are supplied in the case. While the "white man" is not entirely guilty in their march to the West, there is much cause for thought in Gladstone's gentle points. And, if you are not politically or historically inclined, the entire production is pleasing to the ear.

A chance buy that I'm very glad I made. Highly recommended.
