When I saw this collection on CD I had to get it! My mother had the record when I was a kid - I grew up on these classic tunes: "The Boy I Love" is a classic tale or a trusting woman done wrong; "I Take It Back", is a catchy tale of a woman not happy w/a great guy, but also unable to tell him farewell, "Take Me With You Baby" is a plea to be a part of her man's life - these 14 tunes are a must for any avid music fan! This CD should be on Rolling Stones list of 100 Must Have CDs!

In true Sandy Posey style, the listener is drawn into the sad world of a single girl or a woman in the 60's who loves her man, serves him and keeps on going.

Whether you're listening to the hard life in being "Born a Woman", or about being the subject of gossip in "The Boy I Love" you can't help but be thankful that women have evolved to where being a "Single Girl" is not the hardship it was thirty years ago. This woman can sing and you really believe her when she says she was "Shattered". Don't listen to this CD if you are having a blue day!

Full title - A Single Girl - The Very Best Of The MGM Recordings. 2002 compilation for vocalist who got her start singing backup for Elvis Presley, Tommy Roe, Bobby Bare, Joe Tex, Percy Sledge & Skeeter Davis. Culled from her time with the MGM label (1966-68) where she had five Top 40 hits ('Born A Woman', 'Single Girl', 'What A Woman In Love Won't Do', 'I Take It Back'), all included here. Great melodic & rhythmic 60s pop, reminiscent of the girl-talk records of the early 60s. Posey went on to have success as a country artist in the 70s. 23 tracks. RPM.

This is a great cd. Sandy Posey was around when I was younger and her music was great then and is still a joy to listen to. I searched all over trying to find a cd by her and I was so glad to find it on Amazon.

Sandy Posey has not been well served by the CD market with so few of her MGM, Columbia, and subsequent recordings available. At a time when lesser artists have double and tripple disc anthologies, this expanded version of the American Collectables disc is still a far cry from comprehensive. A new Raven Records (Australia)compilation should add a few more pieces to the puzzle, but a more thorough American set would surely be appropriate and welcome. The sound here is reasonable, although not spectacular, and mostly stereo (as another reviewer noted). The insert information is useful although not particularly detailed. All of the big MGM hits are here, along with some fine album cuts. It still leaves room for much more.

Best Posey collection.......2003-04-12

Sandy Posey's MGM recordings - her pop music period - compiled on a domestic release a few years back, get better treatment in this British collection from RPM Records. Though sounding very much the country singer, Posey had a number of her songs penetrate the pop charts in the mid-60's before going on sabbatical, later returning to music with strictly country hits. This collection covers her 1966-1968 recordings and includes her five top-100 pop charting hits headed up by her signature "Born A Woman". Among the remaining tunes on this generous 23-track disc are b-sides, failed singles and album cuts. The sound quality is good overall with most tracks in stereo, leaving only 4 and 15 in mono. A minor faux pas made it to the back cover where the tracks indicated as being mono are not, in fact, so. The flopover liner notes booklet contains a fairly comprehensive bio with pics and some illustrations. For its intent, a well executed package that, though somewhat pricier than the domestic piece, is preferable especially for the fan wanting a bit deeper mining of Posey's musical output for MGM.
