this is one of the best cd's i have ever heard- we have bought 3 copies for our friends and family to enjoy..no one can play the guitar like chet and what he does for these classic hymns are amazing-

The hymns on the album are mostly soft and sweet. He brings out a lot of love and emotion.
Each note is crisp and clear with no finger noise on the strings.

Any Chet Atkins fan wanting to add to an authentic East Tennessee experience, should order this CD.

...it's a "must" add-on to your order. I'm giving this CD to my father as a "stocking stuffer" along with his regular Robe and Socks. The selections include many essential, favorite hymns of Chet's age, which include my Dad's 30-50s American experience from an Appalachian point of view.

There are many amateur guitar-pickers, myself and my Dad included, who dream of playing the tunes that are really meaningful to the roots of our up-bringings combined with the electricity of our modern life. "Back Home Hymns" by Chet Atkins does all this and is a bargain.

Sweet spirituals with that special Chet touch.......2003-11-19

One of country music's greatest guitar players, RCA Nashville head Chet Atkins plies his ever-silky touch to a dozen old-time hymns, some better known than others. Chet takes it slow, which is pretty nice on the more vigorous melodies, (like "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "Lonesome Valley"). On the churchier numbers, though, it can get a little leaden. A nice new take on this material, with Chet's buttery electric guitar weaving a whole new all-instrumental experience of these fine old tunes. Recommended!
