Product Description:
Starting his career at Sun Records in 1958 a few years after Elvis had left for RCA, Rich released many recordings throughout the next decade and a half but didnt have any real chart success until the early 70s. These two albums, released in 74 and 75, prove that Rich was still at the top of his game, releasing country albums that easily crossed over into pop territory and beyond. His material was far more superior and successful, yet tread similar ground, to what Elvis was recording at the time. The Silver Fox features Behind Closed Doors, which was Charlies biggest hit. Both titles are currently unavailable in the U.S., which makes this a must have for fans of Charlie Rich and country music in general. Edsel. 2005.
The same cannot be said of the second half, "Every Time You Touch Me" (1976), which unfortunately has too many sugary tracks giving us a foretaste of the musical direction he would take from then on - frankly, a complete lack of engagement and mostly worthless material. However, this album is redeemed by brilliant versions of "Since I fell for You", "Midnight Blues" (terrific!) and "Pass On By", plus the bitter-sweet "Rendezvous". If only he had kept it up!
The first album presented on this release is The Silver Fox. This one is as good as Behind Closed Doors and Very Special Love Songs. But this one's a little different because the first half of the album (first 6 songs) Charlie talks about his career between the songs. Quite interesting, since he play's blues, rockabilly, big band and jazz as wel as his biggest hit Behind Closed Doors.
But the absolute highlight of the album is Feel Like Going Home, his best composition and sung with more passion than you can imagine. On former site 2 Charlie delivers some excellent ballads. Especially I Love My Friend and Your Place Is Here With Me are outstanding.
Album two is Every Time You Touch Me (I Get High). This one has some very high ups, but also some missers. Highlights are the title track, She, All Over Me, Pass On By and Since I Fell For You. However, A Mellow Melody, A Little Bit Here and You and I aren't that great.
This is absolutely an essential Charlie Rich cd, but for new comers I suggest the first two volumes and Behind Closed Doors (remastered version) first, before buying this one. But when you have those, you will buy this one also!
The best 'Epic' period of The talented Silverfox ! AWESOME !!!
A must for the fans ;)
