5 out of 5 stars Awesome CD.......2007-05-11

Have enjoyed this CD immensely with our four-year old. Great price for the quality. Thank you.

5 out of 5 stars He started dancing as soon as we put it on!.......2007-01-09

My 12 month old loves this CD and happily bops away to the music (in the car he sometimes even starts singing!). We like it too and not being very well versed in Classical music, it is a nice mix for us.

5 out of 5 stars Better than baby einstein.......2006-02-26

This is a great CD, with great music, at a great price. Everyone seems to love Baby Einstein, but I don't like the plinking music on those CD's, I like real orchestral pieces to stimulate my child. This is exactly what parents need, at a good price!

5 out of 5 stars great music at a great price.......2006-02-02

I got this cd to use as background when putting my 18 month old to sleep and for car rides. So far it has not made it out of the car. The cd is wonderful. The first song is the Luftansa airline comercial song (that is what my husband calls it) and is beautiful. I didn't think my husband would enjoy the cd at all but he doesn't mind one bit listening to it, he actually will put it on himself when we get in the car. My daughter loves it and will often start nodding her head back and forth to songs. I actually listen to it even when my daughter is not in the car. The music is soft and relaxing but not boring. It is also one of the only cd's that my in laws don't mind listening to when they are in the car with us.

I only paid like $4 here on amazon for it and I gladdly would of paid more for such a great cd. Its a great cd for such a great price!

5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful CD for all ages.......2002-11-03

My whole family has enjoyed this CD. It is very upbeat and easy to listen to. I think there is something for everyone on this one.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Musique Noir.......2007-06-29

This came out in 2007, and I heard it on NPR, Morning Edition. It was an interlude, and they used a bit of "La Comparsa," which sounded like the "Habanera" from Carmen, and "No Moon At All." You can look these interludes up and it links to Amazon in case you want to buy it. I think NPR might get a cut of the action if anyone buys it as a result of their playing it. So, I was hoping to find out more about Anat Cohen & the Anzic Orchestra, but there wasn't much further info. I have a friend from Israel, and she is named Anat. I guess that is a Hebrew name, and Cohen, you can't get more Jewish than that. They can trace themselves all the way back to the tribe of Levi. I imagine that this Anat plays keyboards, and she has horn players. It didn't sound like a full orchestra to me, more like a combo with horns. They call the group the Anzic Orchestra, though. I would describe their music, from the two clips I heard, as jazz, with a world music influence. I think they might also use EWI, which is Electronic Wind Instrument. I bet they have a MySpace page.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Very Good.......2007-06-10

This is a pleasent CD of thunderstorms that I enjoy very much but it is just not as "ferocious" as Electrifying Thunderstorms.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful and powerful atmosphere!.......2007-05-21

Trust me, if you like listening to a thunderstorm and to the rain pouring down, you'll LOVE this CD. It's PURE nature opening her beauty to you, PURE storm and rain soothing your ears. I don't know of anything better to just relax and even help you sleep.
Other nature CDs have annoying harps or other sounds disturbing nature's perfect sounds, but this CD is PURE nature, nothing else.
You'll not going to get tired of listening to it, and below $5 it's a SURE steal, I would've paid much more than that for this wonderful CD.
BUY IT! You are NOT going to be disappointed, you'll thank me later.

4 out of 5 stars Relax........2007-04-28

This is an extremely soothing and relaxing CD which delivers exactly what it promises -- thunder, rain, and birdsong. Those of us who need white noise to concentrate, or who miss the carefree days of screened-in porches, will greatly enjoy its use. Not since Dan Gibson's "Ocean Surf" have I encountered a CD which straight-piped in raw nature sounds with such clarity and intensity. But this isn't simply a collection of digitally mastered noise; it creates an atmosphere that summons up screened-in porches, rain-soaked grass, and the cool, eerie stillness that accompanies a summer thunderstorm. Best of all, there is no accompanying soundtrack -- no guitar, piano or other tacked-on bumf that gilds the lilly. What pharmaceutical companies sell for $100 a bottle, this CD delivers for the price of a sandwich. Put simply, it's 60 minutes and 13 seconds of bliss.

5 out of 5 stars Great sound effects.......2007-03-25

I use this CD to fall asleep to, it has really good authentic sound. I have several rain, thunder storm cd's this is certainly one of the best, I recommend this CD.

2 out of 5 stars Rain on a tin roof.......2007-03-20

The price is right, but if you are looking for the roll and crash of thunder, look out for all the rain that seems to drone on and on, leaving the viewer wondering where the real storm went. Dig deeper and spend your money on another CD in this catagory, you will be glad you did.

5 out of 5 stars Just the sounds -- Great!.......2006-02-01

I was hunting for just the sounds of water (no music mixed in) as a background for reading and relaxing. This one's perfect.

2 out of 5 stars Just shopping around..........2004-06-09

I just had to comment that it is somewhat comforting to know that I am among so many who seem to have a problem sleeping. It is 2:33 AM as I write this where I live and I haven't been to sleep yet. But I think I found the solution. Brainwave entrainment and Jeffery Thompson has the right stuff sold here at Amazon. I purchased his Delta Sleep System about a year ago, and I did not like one of the tapes, but I sware to God the other one put me right out. I then purchased the Alpha Relaxation System (this one I love) and just a few days ago I purchased his Theta Wave System (I really like this one too), its effectiveness blew me away.

What I had discovered before buying these cds, was that my brain had become attuned to the noises around me, particularly the low level humming of my computer, which elevated my brainwave activity. After a lot of reading I learned that the only way to counteract that was to use something that would slow down my brainwave activity and that's what Thompson's tapes do. I do wish he would change the sounds on his Delta Sleep System as I know there are better sleep inducing sounds that could be used, but the one tape I listen to does work and in fact I am going to listen to it in just a few minutes. I have several sound scape cds but I have not been able to sleep to them for long periods. After awhile the Ocean waves start to annoy me and I'm wide awake. The continous rolling ocean sounds are not realistic of ocean patterns. The sounds should begin to drift off as the day grows dark and the tide goes out (unless there is a storm), at least that's the way it has been whenever I've been to the beach. At night the ocean seems to be calmer and quieter and you don't hear birds, maybe a little wind.

But if you are really looking for real relaxation I'd check out Jeffery Thompson's Systems.

Alot of the reviews I've read on the different cds and dvds have been really helpful so I thought I would just share this info with you guys. Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars SO RELAXING..........2004-06-07

this has to be one of the best water sounds cds ive bought yet. sure there are bits where it obvious that the sound is fading from one stream to another, but i thought it was done very well and found it still very relaxing. this is one of my favorite cds and gets played a lot (except when its cold or im busting to go to the toilet).

5 out of 5 stars A Musical Treat.......2006-01-08

"The true mission of the violin is to imitate the accents of the human voice, a noble mission that has earned for the violin the glory of being called the king of instruments." ~ Charles-Auguste De Bériot ~

Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grapelli together had made some of the most beautiful music ever-recorded. And I believe that this is one of the many successful albums they recorded together. In this recording, both violinists have showed their excellent musicianship and interpretative eloquence as well, making it one of my most cherished CDs from my collection.

These are the main ingredients of a perfectly-made CD for your listening pleasure: mix violins, piano, bass and drums together, combine two terrific violinists, season with the best melodies in the 20s, 30s and 40s from Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart. Add the musical talents of Nelson Riddle, Max Harris, Martin Taylor, Eddie Tripp, Alan Clare and the rest of the studio musicians. Now all you have to do is to sit back, relax and savor these stunning melodies coming from your CD player. Listen to it in full-volume and fill your music room with the sheer beauty of these classics.

One of my favorite musical instruments is violin. With its four strings, it gives a whole wide range of musical versatility and I simply love the fascinating sound it produces.

My personal highlights are the best tunes from Jerome Kern - "The Way You Look Tonight" (Nelson Riddle arranged this particular track and conducted the Woodwind and Brass section), "A Fine Romance," "Pick Yourself Up," "Why Do I Love You?" and "All The Things You Are."

My choices from Irving Berlin's gems are - "Isn't It A Lovely Day?" featuring the great artistry of Nelson Riddle in arranging and conducting, "Cheek To Cheek" and "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm."

The Cole Porter repertoire represented his musical sophistication in "Night And Day," "I Get A Kick Out Of You" and "Just One Of Those Things."

The choice cuts from the talented and creative team of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart are "My Funny Valentine" and "Thou Swell."

Listening to this CD is so delectable and equivalent to having my favorite dessert - be it Tiramisu, New York Cheesecake, Black Forest Cake, Chocolate Soufflé, Créme Brulee, Chocolate Mousse or Chocolate-Coated Strawberries! ;)

A musical treat.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars OK for the price. .......2007-01-18

For the most part, this isn't bad. Sometimes the chimes just don't sound natural to me, as though they are being tapped or swatted at rather than blowing in a breeze, and the lower tones sound just weird, like some dissonant banging on an electric piano. At times the CD sounds like a recording of a broken music box. There are long stretches where it sounds great, but then they are disrupted when fake-sounding lower tones invade. For that reason I did not find this CD all that useful for meditation or relaxation.

5 out of 5 stars This is just wonderful!.......2005-10-26

I spend a lot of time online studying and writing articles. It can be really hard to find anything to listen to while working. The usual "New Age" music is too distracting, and "nature sounds" get unbelievably tedious, especially the "rain" ones that sound like radio static or like brown paper bags being repeatedly crunched up. Nature sounds with birds or storms in the background can be either startling at times or have the same boring "rain" sound. But this CD is just fabulous! There is a gentle wind noise that varies nicely without being noticeable, and hence, never distracts. The wind chimes are always soft and gentle, never clangy, so they provide a wonderful, pleasant background "music" without ever being a distraction or being boring. You could definitely meditate to this, also.

3 out of 5 stars Great Idea!!.......2001-05-10

Just a little too busy. Hence can be a bit tiresome. Good recording though. I found a better one that is gentler and softer with more space at .... (5 stars)

3 out of 5 stars This is okay.......2001-03-03

In general, this series of environmental CD's is middle of the line. But the wind chime CD is good to meditate to. It has several different types of wind chimes of different volumes, and does allow for a vibration feeling that can be meditated to. If you are looking for a CD of soft wind chimes as pleasant back ground sound, this is probably not the CD for you.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful for Wind Chime Lovers . . ........2000-12-10

I really like the sound of wind chimes and listen to this CD often. Nice quality and variety of chimes. Consider the EXTREMELY LOW PRICE for this CD, and if you are a true wind chime lover, you will get much more than your money's worth from this recording . . . Gary L. 3 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says........2003-04-10

I bought a stack of these Exlipse CD's for Yoga. Mostly I got the ones without soundtracks, because I prefer nature sounds alone. I bought this to try the soundtrack and confirmed for myself that I don't like them much. I find the music a bit distracting, but it is a matter of personal taste.

The rain forest track is authentic sounding, and the overall effect is still relaxing, and provides a good wall of white noise for meditation, blocking out the sounds of everyday life from round the house or outside.

I think these are a great value collection and a great buy for anyone who practices meditation or relaxation.

4 out of 5 stars Great at what it is........2003-03-06

This is an Eclipse Music Group CD. The producers do two types of CD, a nature track, and a nature track with a music overlay.

The nature tracks are all done very well, in this case you can hear the birds, monkeys, frogs and insects of the Amazon rainforest, and it is an authentic, harmonic and peaceful sound.

The music overlay is incidental music using strings, winds and voices to give a musical counterpoint to the nature sounds. I use these CD's for Yoga and meditation and I find they work really well in a number of ways.

First of all they kill all the annoying background noise around the house by producing a wall of white noise.
Second, they take you out of your surroundings, in this case into the jungle, by generating realistic sounding tracks.
Finally, they allow you to meditate by giving you a measured relaxing sound that you can hold onto to help with the rythym of your breathing.

It's nice to have the choice of having the music track or just the jungle track, and at the price you can afford to try both.

5 out of 5 stars RELAXING and Peaceful!.......2000-06-12

I am one of those individuals who loves to listen to music while going to bed. In fact, I have been looking intensively for that perfect cd to add to my collection for some time now. And with Relax with the Amazon Rainforest, I believe I have found it! This is one of the most relaxing and soothing compilations I have come across--and believe you me, I have heard many.

This CD magically combines the natural, organic sounds found of the rainforest with the harmonious and beautiful sounds of strings. It is simply music for the ears. The sounds of the rainforest alone-- which include animals, running streams, waterfalls, plantlife, insects, wind etc, are meditative enough--but when accompannied with the string music, it becomes sheer genious!

I have noticed how wonderful and alive I feel the next morning after going to sleep with this soundtrack on. My dreams are more vivid and my body more vital and refreshed. No joke!

Relax with the amazon rainforest, is perfect for relaxing, meditating, art, sleeping and creating a welcoming and peacful atmosphere. I highly reccomed this cd to anyone who enjoys relaxing--especially to those who enjoy bedtime sounds.

5 out of 5 stars sonic masterpiece........2007-05-27

This album is amazing. It recalls to me a time when producers like Timbaland and The Neptunes first started getting recognition for their work. When their beats were a mix of pop-creativity and artistic flair. Such is "The Hollywood Recordings." Having been a Sa-Ra partners fan for a little over a year now, I can attest that they do not fail to innovate or excite. THe production is A+, feeling both pop and hip hop (Hieroglyphics and Jedi Mind Tricks comes to mind). This CD will be in rotation at all of my parties for a while now!

1 out of 5 stars They Got Me Again.......2007-05-10

First, let me say that my review of this "album" is not coming from a hater's viewpoint. I am an open-minded individual, and I pride myself on being fair. That being said, let me tell you why you must not buy this album.

We live in an age where hype reigns supreme. Whether it's the latest boxing match being labeled "the fight that'll save boxing," or a new musical act called innovative, and "creative." The latter applies to the new CD from "musical act" Sa-Ra. Now, I said before that I'm not a hater, and I can't stand haters myself. But if there's one thing I can't stand more than a hater, it would have to be a liar. I'm referring to the liars who lent their names to the packaging of this CD (Kanye West), claiming that it was worthy of purchase. I'm referring to the so-called hip-hop websites that co-sign on this BS, manipulating consumers into thinking something good is on this CD. Well, I'm justified in calling them liars, because there is nothing good on this CD. They know we the people are fans of Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, and Georgia Ann Muldrow, so they feature them as guests on this CD. We end up thinking, "If Kweli and Badu are on it, it must be worthy." But NO!! It is not so. The first clue that it won't be worthy of your hard-earned cash is the inclusion of a track featuring Capone 'N Noreaga. You see it, but your brain says, "But Kweli and Badu are on it! It couldn't be that bad, right?" But brothers and sisters, it IS that bad. And it gets worse. These Sa-Ra clowns go as far as including Kurupt on their project (Will he ever grow up? How long can you "gang-bang"?). Not to mention the numerous no-names who make appearances. I apologize for ranting, but I'm sick of this! I'm sick of people taking advantage of those of us who love artists who "think outside of the box." They convince us that what they have to offer is different and new, and all we get is $14 worth of BS. That's what this CD is too-- BS. They should have named it "The BS Recordings".

Bottom line-- don't support this BS.

4 out of 5 stars Creative...Podnuh!.......2007-05-07

Sa-Ra has had a slight buzz for some time due to their other projects working with cats like Ice T and Bilal and Dr. Dre. The first official release from the group is an eye opener. From the opening key of "Hey Love" its easy to tell that this is not an album that fits easily with the status quo. Creative on every song, like it or not. Give your mind and ears a break and listen to something that will actually challenge the senses. You'll feel better in the morning!

Sa-Ra is a giant step in the right direction. The more you listen, the better it gets; a sign of layered, nuanced music.

3 out of 5 stars A Little 2 Much Hype.......2007-04-29

Honestly after waiting about two years to hear an album from these guys i kinda expected more. The production is tight but nothing extraordinary and the songs just don't hit the spot for me. Their eclectic marketing combined with them being co-signed by some of my favorite artists (Erykah Badu,Kanye West,J-Dilla etc.)definitely contributed to my expectations. If you like stuff like this listen to Spacek's two releases Curvatia and Vintage Hi-tek. Spacek is the true progenitor of this new wave electronica. Not hatin just expected a little more.

5 out of 5 stars Flaco Jimenez - Partners.......2005-09-11

5 Stars for Flaco and friends. This is the 3rd time I have purchased 'Partners' as I have enjoyed sharing it with friends. Emmylou is especially great on 'West Texas Waltz'.

5 out of 5 stars Here's the skinny on Flaco.......2001-12-03

The concept of pairing talented sidemen with more reknowned guest musicians is not a new one, and more often than not the results are strangely flat. That is not the case here however. Flaco Jimenez along with his brother and father are famous bandleaders themselves in the world of conjunto and norteno border music. It was this notoriety that led to Flaco playing accordian on recordings from artists as diverse as Peter Rowan , The Texas Tornadoes and the Stones. On this wonderful CD, some of Flaco's biggest admirers repay the favor by appearing on his recording. Everything works here believe it or not. I always have some concern with Linda Ronstadt's interpretations of songs, but she's quite stunning on "Puente Roto". Steven Stills probably could have chosen something a little less dated to sing than "Change Partners",but hey, maybe it was Flaco's request and it'a a good 'un too. Everybody from Emmylou to Ry Cooder sounds like they're having a ball with there old friend Flaco.John Hiatt darn near steals the show with a lovely reading of his song "The Border". Los Lobos' David Hildago must be in heaven playing accordion with his hero on "Don't Worry Baby". And then there's Dwight Yoakum's cover of Warren Zevon's "Carmelita", a reading so poignant and heartfelt that it made me forget Zevon's pretty terrific version for a while. Country radio would never dare play "Carmelita" so you Yoakum fans will want to hear this. You'll be treating yourself to some splendid listening in the bargain.Nice job Flaco.

4 out of 5 stars The one and only Flaco !!.......2001-10-10

I bought this cd years ago after I got into the Texas Tornados first release. I loved this cd! It moves and grooves.
He recruited 'partners' Stephan Stills ("Change Partners") Dwight Yoakum (on "Carmelita") and the always fabulous
Linda Ronstadt(on "Puente Roto").
I loved all the songs and was pleasently surprised at how versatile he is, and how he blends in so smoothly on all the tracks. It seems an effortless project...
Definitely one for the collection!

4 out of 5 stars The King of Conjunto, With A Little Help From His Friends.......2000-08-17

Flaco is a national treasure, who makes records that are far better known by Mexicans & Mexican Americans than by your average American white guy (like myself).

So, this record might seem as a bit of a dicey proposition: Hook Flaco up with a bunch of people on the Warner roster and see what happens.

The results are almost perfect.

The high point is Dwight Yoakam guesting on what is the definitive read of Warren Zevon's "Carmelita." The effect is the same as Hendrix covering "All Along The Watch Tower": Dylan wrote and performed it, but Hendrix OWNS it. This is the case with "Carmelita," and reason enough to buy the disc.

Other high points include a great read of "Marina," "Las Golondrinas," and his father's "Eres Un Encanto." "El Puente Roto" is wonderful as a duet with Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris absolutely glows on "West Texas Waltz."

Maybe the only problem with some tracks is that they suffer by comparison. Stephen Stills sounds fine on his "Change Partners," but they play it too fast. Ry Cooder is featured on "The Girls From Texas" (yes, he brought Jim Keltner with him). While it's a fun read, the arrangment only *seems* loose, while playing comes off as studied and stiff. Los Lobos show up on "Don't Worry Baby," but don't really ignite (like their cover of "Bertha," on the Grateful Dead tribute "Deadicated").

Overall, a great record that serves as a easy introduction for North of the Border audiences, giving a little taste of Authentic Northern Mexican (Or Tex-Mex, depending on your view) spice to go along with the regular fare.

5 out of 5 stars The Nitty Grittys at Their Prime.......2006-01-14

It is unfortunate that the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is often overlooked when one considers that they, along with the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, The Dillard and Clark Expedition, Poco, Hearts and Flowers, and Rick Nelson's Stone Canyon Band, were in the forefront of the California Country Rock scene. Left behind in the wake of the Burritos, and even Poco, whom they were always as good as, if not better, the Dirt Band member credentials were always - and still are - impeccable. a barely out-of-his-teens Jeff Hanna befriended another teenager by the name of Jackson Browne, who with Hanna and Jimmie Fadden was a founding member of the Dirt Band. Hanna and another early Dirt Band player Chris Darrow worked alongside Linda Ronstadt in an brief hiatus. Hanna also played alongside Bernie Leadon in Ronstadt's band as well - if he had stayed longer, he might very well had become a founding father of the Eagles. As things turned out, it was Leadon who would later briefly replace John McEuen in the Dirt Band.

Jimmy Ibbotson was with Skip Battin (Byrds) in Evergreen Blueshoes, and had briefly auditioned for Poco, (beaten out by Randy Meisner)before signing on to the Dirt Band in time for "House at Pooh-Corner", "Some of Shelly's Blues", and "Mr. Bojangles".

Moving to Colorado in the wake of the Eagles, Poco, and Firefall the Dirt Band continued in its eclectic blend of Folk, Rock and Country for many, many years - even after Hanna moved to Nashville. Indeed on the album, "Partners, Brothers, and Friends", the second cd of this two-album set, Hanna sings those famous lines: "Is it Folk, or Rock, or Country?" Which while highlighting the versatility of the Nittys has also tended to make them sadly obscure at times.

The two albums, "Plain Dirt Fashion" and "Partners, Brothers, and Friends" were recorded at a very productive time in the Dirt Band's history - the early and mid 1980s, as they increasingly became more countrified rather than country rock. It was also a joyous time for the band, as it marked the return of Jimmie Ibbotson to its ranks, and just in time for their number one rendition of Rodney Crowell's "Long Hard Road".

Some of the best Country and Country Rock moments of the band are captured on both CDs - the Hanna-Carpenter-Parsons-Carpenter "It Must Be Love" (yes, Bob Carpenter's marriage to Gretchen Parsons brought another element of California Country Rock History to the band's glorified past; she was the widow of Gram) the song itself has that classic California Country Guitar sound courtesy of Hanna; "High Horse", "You Ought to Run with Me", a hard rocking cover of "The Boss's" "Cadillac Ranch" that is still an encore highlight of Dirt Band shows, "Modern Day Romance", "Other Side of the Hill", "Partners, Brothers, and Friends", "Redneck Riviera", represent the Country Rock sounds of the band, while Jimmy Ibbotson brings in the element of the Old West and some Bluegrass in "Telluride" and "Old Upright Piano". I'm not too sure about their cover of Meatloaf's "Two Out Of Three" though - it sounded too typical of Nashville pablum at the time. The two cds represent a fine moment in Dirt Band music, right before the long hiatus of John McEuen, the brief arrival of Leadon, and chugging along very well as a foursome (think "Live 2 5")

It remains to be seen how after recent successes, i.e., a third "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" album, an appearance on the Johnny Cash Tribute concert, and of course, Rascal Flats' recent number 1 success with Hanna's "The Broken Road" what the Dirt Band's future will be - Jimmy Ibbotson has once again departed the band, taking with him those lead and harmony vocals so reminiscent of Richie Furay's or Randy Meisner's (memo to Jeff and John - consider Randy Meisner - after all, think of how "Take It to the Limit" would score appreciatively with Dirt Band audiences, not to mention Meisner's own considerable songwriting skills). Whatever happens, you can be sure that the Dirt Band will carry on.

5 out of 5 stars Two great NGDB records on one CD.......2005-02-16

I have Plain Dirt Fashion and Partners, Brothers And Friends on LP. Now that these two classic Nitty Gritty Dirt Band records are available on one CD, I bought the CD version. This music is as great as it was in the mid-'80s, when NGDB originally recorded it.

"Long Hard Road", written by Rodney Crowell(the writer of NGDB's 1980 hit "An American Dream"), was the Dirt Band's first #1 country song, and it has always been one of my favorites. I especially like this line: "When the world was on our radio, hard work was on our minds/We lived our day to day in Plain Dirt Fashion." "Long Hard Road" by itself shows the Dirt Band's ability to pick a well-crafted song. The record's most fun moments, however, are provided by NGDB's Jimmy Ibbotson. Ibbotson's "High Horse", a driving, bouncy song, was a huge hit, as was his wisecracking celebration of the band's first 20 years, "Partners, Brothers And Friends". These two songs are also among my favorite NGDB songs. Still another excellent Ibbotson song is "Telluride", about life in the Colorado gold-mining town("Take the gold into Telluride"). Why "Telluride" didn't get radio airplay I'll never figure out. It's a great song--I think it's certainly up there with Ibbotson's "Ripplin' Waters"(from NGDB's album Dream) and NGDB's '70s classic hit "Mr. Bojangles". NGDB's rocking version of "Cadillac Ranch" is well done and in my opinion surpasses Bruce Springsteen's original. The reflective songs "Home Again In My Heart" and "Old Upright Piano", the romantic ballad "I Love Only You", the rodeo song "The Other Side Of The Hill", and Steve Goodman's humorous song "Video Tape"("If your life was on video tape/Wouldn't everything be alright") are also highlights.

In my opinion Plain Dirt Fashion and Partners, Brothers And Friends, when they came out, represented a welcome return by the Dirt Band to a more countrified sound. Ibbotson's return to the Dirt Band in '83, after a seven-year absence, helped the band bounce back from an ill-advised switch to a pop direction and reclaim their country roots. Not only is Ibbotson a great songwriter, but he's an excellent musician as well--note his mandolin picking on "Telluride", for example. To go on, Jeff Hanna's guitar playing is exceptional in a lot of places(for instance, on "Partners, Brothers And Friends" and "Cadillac Ranch"). There's also some solid piano work by Bob Carpenter(as usual), Jimmie Fadden does excellent harmonica playing, and John McEuen plays some unbelievable banjo and fiddle parts on several of the songs. If you don't already have Plain Dirt Fashion and Partners, Brothers And Friends on LP, they're now both available on one CD. By all means, get the CD version and listen to it. There is a lot of great music here.

5 out of 5 stars 2 BEAUTIFUL albums on 1 CD - FINALLY.......2004-02-14

We finally get 2 great collections of work from the NGDB on one CD. About time. From the crystal clear notes of "Long Hard Road -(Sharecroppers Dream)" to the original "Partners Brothers and Friends," it is SO nice to finally hear these songs on CD. But quick, put the CD in and scan up to track #14. Does the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band get ANY better than they do on "Telluride?" I think not. Get this CD. Now.

4 out of 5 stars Great Harmonies and Good Memories Here!.......2004-02-05

This CD combines two excellent albums from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Bands' mid-80's work. "Long Hard Road", one of my favorites, starts things off nicely. This song has some heartfelt, memorable lines..."Mama played the guitar then and Daddy made the saw blade bend and raindrops played the tin roof like a drum." Great phrasing too. Another all time favorite that should have gotten some airplay is "Old Upright Piano". This one will bring a tear to your eye. If you enjoyed the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in your younger days, pick up this nice bargin. It is sure to make you smile. The musicianship and great harmonies shine through, even on the less memorable tunes.
