4 out of 5 stars Another great unknown.......2007-02-15

Hats off to Koch Records for this release of one of the more remote names in Country Music. Orville is an excellent singer, right up there alongside Johnny Horton and Bob Gallion; although much more country than rockabilly. There's a few cover songs here, including "Honky Tonk Man", "Dance Her By Me", and the one song that nearly everybody covered "Fraulein". Personally, I find "Greenville Diner" to be the best song on the disc. At the same time, Orville was also a helluva songwrite; believe it or not, Bill Anderson (the epitome of a songwriter) recorded a couple of Couch-penned tunes! The sound on this disc is fine, when you compare it to similar recordings of the time. The liner notes are a little lean, but still there. A solid album.

4 out of 5 stars Whoa There Bob-A-Louie, old Orville ain't half bad!!!!.......2006-07-31

Hey, Orville might not be Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, George Jones, Johnny Paycheck, Wynn Stewart or even Charlie Walker. But then again, who is? While this one CD isn't enough to get a true picture of his talent, it is clear he didn't deserve to be so overlooked. His voice is kind of a cross between Wynn and Merle with a touch of Willie Nelson thrown in. One listen to the cuts "His And Hers" "Dance Her By Me" "Since You've Gone" "Uncle Red" and "Hello Trouble" and you wonder why he didn't get to record more often. [Oh and by the way, the sound quality of this CD is passable] All I can say is that record label managers must have been pretty short sighted in those days when it came to honkytonkers. Maybe Bear Records can do a deep dive into the vaults and find some more. Til then I'd do like the man said and snap this up while you can!

2 out of 5 stars The Trouble with Orville.......2004-04-03

I am a fan of 1955-1970 country music. I came across a reference to Orville on a different artist's liner notes and looked into the availability of his music on CD. I could not find a real player sample of his music so I bought this CD w/ no samples. Mistake.
Hello Trouble is a catchy ditty at 1min 46sec, but like the rest of the album it sounds like it was recorded with two microphones in a high school auditorium. These were cleaned up with remastering but you can only do so much. Many of the songs include the seldom heard harmonica, and evoke the word amateur. You wonder what might have happened to Orville with a little polishing, he had talent, but these arent polished.
The album includes three mediocre covers -Frauline, Honky Tonk Man & Since You've Gone, a couple nice original songs, but is not worth the $13. I should have been suspicious when I found this CD also on over stock dot com.
This is a fine example of a popular regional guy taking a stab at the big time in a second tier recording organization. Most of these types who put out enough material for one album don't make it to CD and have to be hunted up on vinyl. There is a reason for this.
I'd recommend Vernon Oxford, early Mel Tillis or Charlie Walker if you're looking for seldom heard enjoyable 60's country music on CD.
To the guy who threw out a 4 star rating on this I'd say I didn't know Orville personally, I wasn't born when 'Hello Trouble' charted, and I'm not from Dallas, but I've been mining retro country for 14yrs and at anything over 7.99 this CD doesn't cut it. You owe me 5 bucks!
