Every song is great! wether it be covers or originals. Some are soulful and some have a country feel, but the album still has a cohesive feel to it!

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars I Want Doug Kershaw, Not DOUG SAHM!.......2006-04-24

Doug Kershaw has been involved with many prominent characters in the music industry. From J.D. Miller to Roy Acuff, from Johnny Cash to Buddy Kileen, perhaps it was inevitable he'd fall in with Huey Meaux, the "Crazy Cajun" himself. It seems almost a rite of passage for up and coming Louisiana musicians to make this mistake.
What this CD represents, apparently, is a bunch of recordings of unknown date/personnel (or anything for that matter), that Doug was supposed to have made for Meaux. So, what's here?
This CD includes a bunch of Doug Sahm covers. Sir Douglas Quintet was associated with Meaux, if you didn't know. But I want to hear Doug Kershaw, I don't want to hear Doug Kershaw doing Doug Sahm. "Real Ole Cajun Me", a cover of Sahm's "Texas Me" is one of the most painful offerings here. Also included are tracks supposedly from "Rusty & Doug" that might have been from the 60's, with some of the worst quality I've seen, unwarranted, on a commercial release.
Some of what's here isn't even Doug. Two Cajun tracks, titled "Mama and Papa Waltz", and the really elaborately titled "Slow Cajun Waltz" have nothing to do with the man. These may be recordings by his oldest brother Ed, but we may never know. What I do know is, no Doug here.
Exactly why these recordings were made is up for question. The 60's-sounding tracks aren't half bad, some of them are early versions of tunes Doug would record later, and some over-and-over. But the quality is poor. They sound like they've been dubbed from worn out records, or tapes played back with a mis-aligned head. Some are covers of old Doug & Rusty tunes, like "Hey Mae" with a pseudo-dance backing. Many of the other recordings seem to date from between the time Doug was dropped by Warners and picked up by CBS, and it sounds worse than the kind of records that bar bands push in the merch sales after shows...
As the notes state, a Lomax was involved with this product. 'Nuff said.
It's a total waste of time and money. Not worth a cent of what they're charging for it.

5 out of 5 stars One of the finest albums doug has ever done!!!!.......1999-03-31

Doug Kershaw has truely displayed his full range of talent on this one. I now have a new "favorite" in my Kershaw Collection.

      Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars For Completists Only........2003-05-31

Delbert remains the Keeper of the Flame, the best roadhouse rocker in the biz, but this is a very disappointing release. Everybody who worked in Texas fell into the hands of the infamous Huey Meaux at one time or another, and Delbert was no exception. These cuts were made in the 60s when he was yet to form his own personal fusion of country and R & B, and suffer, like his first efforts for Major Bill Smith, from a lack of direction - and a typically mean spirited set of production values from Meaux. A mixture of garage rock and Beatles-influenced rock 'n' roll - but none of the fire of the later Delbert. One to miss.

1 out of 5 stars Thought I would Love Anything Delbert Releases.......2000-08-19

I am a dyed in the wool Delbert McClinton fan. Love the way he sings honky tonk and love the way he sings the blues. But this album was a real disappointment. Mainly because Delbert sounds like everyone except Delbert. Couldn't find even one Delbert song. While the first song (Don't Let Go) didn't sound like Delbert, it was still fun to listen to. Unfortunately that was the only one I could enjoy. The rest were more like famous songs sung by unknowns.I'll still add Delbert albums to my wish list. Maybe this is the only real disappointment that he's ever released!

5 out of 5 stars She sends chills down my spine..........1999-09-03

Gloria Edwards is just amazing-no bones about it...an amazing vocalist and an amazing person as well. I live in Houston and have the privelege of hearing her perform live from time to time. Not long ago she did a tribute to Dinah Washington that blew me away! Everyone-EVERYONE- should have something by her in their CD collection. Gloria, you're the best-I love you!

5 out of 5 stars You don't want to miss this........1999-08-02

I love good blues and R & B from the 60's and 70's and I live in Houston, TX where the "Crazy Cajun" originated. Gloria is a phenominal singer who I still enjoy going to listen to. She is an icon in music on the Houston scene. The audience is usually filled with scores of music hopefuls who watch, analyze and learn from her every move. Many of the vocalist instructors in Houston suggest Gloria Edwards as one of the singers to witness. I know that this will be the favorite CD in my collection for years to come. You should join the priviledge few who know that this lady is Da Bomb!
