going downhill.......2005-06-12

this is not a bad cd to buy. its still miles ahead of nashville country, and lifetime stand is an outstanding song. The biggest problem with this cd has to do with steel guitarist jimmy not being a part of cooder g on this cd. the result of this is that this cd has much more of a rock sound, this album lacks the country sound that previous albums had, on many tracks. the lyrics are still pretty tight. buy this cd but make sure you get shifting gears, live at billy bobs or golden light or the self title before you get this one, they are all superior 5-star efforts. sadly another texas country band is turning towards rock. for artists still playing texas country check out jason allen, cody widner, or front porch texas.

Good reliable stuff from a band that hits it out of the park every time. For my money, the raw energy of Segundo (live at the Golden Light in Amarillo) makes it a better pick for someone who's thinking of getting their first Cooder Graw disk but if you like your alt-country like I do, any of them will do. Just another five star effort from Cooder Graw....

Cooder Craw Has Come Full Circle.......2004-12-24

I've heard several of Cooder's previous CD's and they are all excellent...but this one tops them all. Country music? Well, it's much more than that! There's some of the best songwriting that this reviewer's heard in many a year. Sure, there's a few good ol' boy, get-down stompers, but take a listen to a tune like "Dirty and Sober" (for example). That's real gut wrenching, soul searching music!
In short...get this CD and find out that "Country Music" is more than what's being played on the radio these days. This is the REAL thing!

Itýs a Loud County, Live!.......2001-03-03

WOW! I was fortunate enough to run across Cooder Graw's self-titled album about a year ago and loved the music and lyrics. When I heard they were going to produce a live album I knew I had to get my hands on a copy. Segundo exudes far more energy, and sounds more like the style of music they typically play, which wasn't captured on the self-titled album. This album has six previously unreleased songs that are fun to sing along or dance to, as well as some of the popular songs from the self-titled album. If you like Americana or County music, do you self a favor and get this album. It will live in you CD player.

The Stars Are Out Tonight!.......2001-10-02

I picked up this cd and wasn't expecting much. What a pleasant surprise! This cd is full of lingering melodies and intelligent lyrics. From "Motel Lights" to "Memphis, Texas", it slides eloquently from song to song. I guarantee you'll be hummin' a tune and singing along after just one listen. "State Line" is a particularly haunting tune, yet you'll have a smile on your face and yearn to sing loudly from your car with the windows rolled down. If you haven't heard of Cooder Graw, you are missing some truly great musicians. Though they will likely never be big "country" stars, they know how to move a crowd and raise a beer in a Texas honky tonk. Bottom line- a must have!

Texas music at its best.......2001-06-15

Lead singer Matt Martindale supported by his raunchy blend of electric guitar, pedal steel, and drunms is Texas country at its best. This cd will have you singing aloud and stomping your feet to tunes such as Llano Estacado, Motel Lights, and My Give A Damn Is Broken. Cooder Graw will also put a lump in your throat with the lyrical magic Martindale incoorporates in She Loves Too Much, West Texas Wind, and Picture in the Closet. If you are unaware of the talent of this young group, this cd will be a real eye-opener and for an even better experience try to catch one of your live shows. As stated before, this is Texas country. It's not the whining, pop stars that claim to be country singers that are hanging out in Nashville. Even non-traditional country listeners will enjoy how this group blends country, Tejano, bluegrass and not to mention rock--and boy can they rock. Look for Cooder Graw's cd "Home at the Golden Light" and enjoy Martindale and the band rock their way through Jimi Hendricks tunes that demand respect. Expect to see big things in the future for Cooder Graw

One of the BEST CDs I have bought in years!.......2000-03-28

The songs on this CD are exceedingly great. They are very well written, and as the person from Amarillo said, the songs express everyday situations and feelings. I would recommend this album for anyone who likes Texas music. This truly is one of the few CDs I will never get sick of.

Loud Country!.......2000-12-28

Put this CD in the slot, and turn it up! You will be singing every word of Motel Lights after about the third time. Llano Estacado is LOUD country, and you will love it. Matt Martindale, lead singer/song writer, does a great job of telling true Texas tales and capturing the essence of blue-collar existence in this production. His band matches the meaningful lyrics with raucous, toe-tapping sounds and a few wistful tunes, which arrive just in time to cool you off with a slow dance. Whether you are driving down the road or scooting across hardwood at a party, this is one to have close to the CD player. The quality of Grammy winner Ray Benson's production studio is evident throughout this CD. Buy it, then go see them live. You won't regret either.

Best CD I have heard in years!.......2000-11-15

This album is awesome! You can really tell that there was an effort put into the writing of the music and lyrics. It's obvious that Cooder Graw (coodergraw.com) is ignoring the Nashville formulae for song writing, and are writing music for which they have feelings for; which is far more appealing than the modern Nashville nonsense. This is one CD that I will never get sick of hearing. Clint Black's guitar player Hayden Nicholas and Asleep at the Wheel's Ray Benson did a great job producing this album. I am certainly looking forward to the next album.

This is a great CD. I know, "A four-star for a great CD." This is a great CD for any fan, if you are new to Cooder Graw, this is a great first purchase. It's not as emotionally drawn as their self titled CD, but it keeps you involved through the whole CD. "Willie's Guitar" is as great as "Motel Lights" in their self-titled, but doesn't carry a crowd quite the same. Once again, if you are new to Cooder Graw, this is a great first buy of theirs, then buy their self-titled for a better look into their music and a better written album, in my opinion.
