The Perfect Summary of Avalon's First Seven Years..........2007-05-04

"Christian music will never be the same..."
That sentence has probably been said by a lot of people regarding the arrival of one of Christian music's biggest phenomenons: AVALON. The vocal quartet, known for their smooth harmonies, has received:

Two RIAA-certified Gold albums

Twenty #1 hit singles (Sixteen of which are featured on this album)

Although Avalon has been lavished with success throughout the past 12 years, they are definitely familiar with sorrow and misfortune. (They've had more success than misfortune!) They've had several member changes, as Nikki Hassman-Anders, Cherie Adams, and Michael Passons have all left the group. That's not including Jody McBrayer, who just recently announced that he will be leaving the group as well in January of 2008 due to heart disease.

However, seven years after they began, Avalon released in 2003 "Testify To Love: The Very Best of Avalon" a collection of sixteen of their #1 hits. Smashes include:

AMAZING COLLECTION by BJ.......2007-03-03

This collection ROCKS!! Avalon is definitely my favorite group of all time! "New Day", a new recording, is extrememly catchy and one of Avalon's best. I really loved this one. "Everything To Me", another new recording, features Michael and Melissa with their amazing and powerful voices. "Pray" is fast and catchy with Jody's special vocal talent along with Melissa. Of course I loved all the huge #1 hits like: "Wonder Why", "Give It Up", "Testify To Love", "Can't Live A Day", "In Not Of" and "I Don't Want To Go" and MORE! I liked the bonus track, "Don't Save It All For Christmas Day", too. I would definitely recommend this CD to everyone! LOVE YOU AVALON!!!!!!!

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE CD'S THAT I JUST CAN'T LIVE A DAY WITHOUT LISTENING TO! AVALON HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME AND MANY OF THESE SONGS I KNEW, BUT DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS THEM SINGING IT UNTIL I PURCHASED THE CD. I WILL NEVER REGRET THIS PURCHASE!
MY FAVORITE TRACK IS #4 "EVERYTHING TO ME", ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS WHAT MY LORD IS TO ME!

Good Sound, Very Good Lyrics.......2006-04-23

This is a strong collection of songs by Avalon. Although I've heard several of these songs, I have never had an Avalon CD before. I have been quite pleased with this group of songs.

The songs have solid Christian lyrics. The sound is a lighter pop sound. It is very upbeat and some of the songs are pretty catchy.

Some of the one that I particularly like are as follows: 'Everything To Me', 'Testify To Love', 'Adonai', 'Always Have, Always Will', and 'The Glory'.

This is definitely worth a listen.

Great Cd.......2005-10-23

This is just an awesome cd and anybody into christian music would love it. New Day and Testify to Love are my favorite songs on this cd.

I bought this solely for "Once Upon a Time", and was dismayed that the CD is mono, not stereo. The quality of the recordings leaves much to be desired, as many of them lack the pristine quality I'm used to on a CD.

classic arrangements by the classic gentlemen ~ Percy Faith.......2004-02-16

Two albums from the Columbia Records people blending different decades "Li'l Abner" (originally released CL 955 in 1956) and "Broadway Bouquet" (originally released LS 9156 in 1965), sharing the unmistakable style of the "Percy Faith Touch" ~ you know in an instant you're in for the best of the best ~ Duke Ellington was so taken with Faith's arrangements, that he would give anything to be able to arrange in that fashion.

Let's begin with "IT'S A TYPICAL DAY" along with "LOVE IN A HOME", both from "Li'l Abner", wonderful opening counterparts and the stirring arrangements by Maestro Percy Faith ~ "JUBILATON T. CORNPONE", uplifting cue that will keep bouncing in your head for hours, maybe even days ~ "IF I HAD MY DRUTHERS", one of the forgettable tunes from the show ~ "NAMELY YOU", has to be the best and favorite song of the Johnny Mercer and Gene De Paul score ~ by the way, these two composers penned the lively screen musical "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", both scores were sure winners from two talented songwriters, Percy Faith steps up to the podium and takes it to another level.

Now with "Broadway Bouquet", we have perfection within the realm of lush arranging, so flawless "HELLO, DOLLY!" (Jerry Herman), "ONCE UPON A TIME" (Adams/Strouse), "SOMEWHERE" (Sondheim/Bernstein), "SUNRISE, SUNSET/FIDDLER ON THE ROOF" (Harnick/Bock) (one of my all-time favorites, can't get enough of this score), "WHO CAN I TURN TO (WHEN NOBODY NEEDS ME)" (Bricusse/Newley), "A QUIET THING" (Ebb/Kander), "MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY" (Comden/Green/Styne), "WHAT KIND OF FOOL AM I?" (Bricusse/Newley) (two of the best songwriters in the business), "LONG AGO" (David Heneker), "THE SWEETEST SOUNDS" (Richard Rodgers) (his credit of compositions goes through the ceiling, will never be another like 'em), "AS LONG AS HE NEEDS ME" (Lionel Bart) (a wonderful classic that is still popular by today's standards), "THEME FROM "GOLDEN BOY" (Adams Strouse) (another team of composers that have made an impact on the Broadway scene) ~ an example of the "Percy Faith Touch", so effortless, you feel like you're floating on a cloud ~ falls into Percy's many albums of fabulous string arrangements, they grabbed the attention of the listener and wouldn't let go. Can't think of any other arranger/composer who left such a great legacy as this man!

Highly recommend to ALL fans of Percy Faith ~ thanks to Collectables for releasing this collection from the vaults of Columbia Records ~ so listeners sit back, relax and enjoy a small part of Maestro Percy Faith's fabulous career!

quite simply fantastic music.......2001-10-23

Easily one of the best CDs I've heard in years. I thought it was great the first time I heard it, and since then it's only grown on me even more. Great voice, brilliant and moving lyrics--wonderful music in general. Myshkin has to be one of the most talented musicians out there right now. I don't think I'll ever get tired of this CD.

My Favorite CD!.......2001-06-07

I saw Myshkin and Mike perform in M's Fine and Mello November 2000. "Why Do All The Country Girls Leave" is still in the number one position in my car CD player, I can't get enough of it. I am amazed these guys aren't on the charts,,,,Yet!

Myshkin Could Be a Secret No More.......2000-07-10

I first saw Myshkin in support of her husband Mike West in New Orleans and was fascinated with her dark, mysterious stylings. She did not break far from that mold with her previous release "Blue Gold", which was a fine effort. However, the influence of her banjo-picking husband over the last several years seems to have tranformed her music into an wonderful blend of country, blues, punk, rock and pop. Myshkin is sort of an "Indigo Girl" with a little more attitude. The title track of this CD is great, but the real highlights are "Milk and Honey" a pop tune with a message, but ready for the charts. Also great are the Ska-Billy ride called "The Last Year" and country-blues "Colored Corn" with husband Mike ripping on the mandolin. If you're ever in the Big Easy, catch Mike and Myshkin live. This duo offers two very different styles that blend quite like no other in the world. This CD could finally get them the attention they so richly deserve.

Odd combo of 1 Dolly album & 1 budget compilation.......2005-05-11

Madacy's 2004 release on Dolly, "The Very Best of Love," is quite strange. It's not really a collection of her love songs, but rather a 2 disc set of 2 previous albums. Disc 1 is the 9-track 1987 RCA budget compilation "The Best There Is," while disc 2 is her 1989 Columbia album "White Limozeen." While there are plenty of love songs and plenty of hits to be found, it is just a strange release, and it's quite apparant that no one put much thought into it at all. It would be more worthwhile to pursue proper releases or compilations from either RCA/BMG or Columbia/Sony. You'll get both better packaging, presentation and sound quality.
