Oh, Wowser! Some Ray's BEST stuff ever ... !!!.......2005-12-11
Yeah, what those other people said, above ... but my personal favorite is Old Hippie Class Reunion ... it provides me with musical allusions that even the erudite crowd on Dave Barry's Blog do not recognize ...
It's really a shame that this one is out of print ... my own copy gets plenty of play time (cassette) and any Ray Stevens fans who aren't aware of "Charlene McKenzie" or some of those others will really appreciate these tracks ... if they haven't yet heard them, they'll soon add them to their list of favorites ...
Best line/running gag: from Class Reunion: "We SMOKED it!"
This CD is a Fantasic Masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-11-25
Now Ray Stevens is just awesome with comedy. This great album from Ray Stevens is out of print! This sucks so bad.It has many great songs including my personal favorite Surfin' U.S.S.R.I think people are little morons who put this out of print.I HATE YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!! But if come across this great album really like it.I'm glad Ray Stevens Exists he kicks it greatly with laughter. You might even need trash can when you are listening to it you might just all of a sudden barf.HA HA HA!!!!!!!!
a great CD.......2003-09-07
from the Beach Boys parody kick-off track, "Surfin' USSR", to the last track satirizing Woodstock "Old Hippie Class Reunion", Ray's talents are plenty and varied. the craze of satellite TV is dealt with on "Language, Nudity, Violence, and Sex" as Ray laments about all the problems a parent goes through trying to keep their children from seeing adult oriented programs. "Blood and Suede" has a late '70s rock feel {i didn't say late '70s pop, which was disco}. On "Bad", we hear Ray's twisted and scathing satire of Michael Jackson put in a country setting. You have to hear it to believe it! 1987's "Mama's in the Sky with Elvis" originally appeared as a newly recorded track on the 1987 'GREATEST HITS, VOLUME TWO' album on MCA. It's added on this album as track #5. The song is about a woman who dies and happens to be an Elvis fan. It's a bit of dark humor. "The Booger Man" is a wacky twist on Halloween with a blues arrangement. One of the more hilarious is "The Day I Tried To Teach Charlene MacKenzie How To Drive" in which Ray attempts to teach a deaf girl how to drive a '57 Chevy standard. "Ethelene the Truckstop Queen" sounds like a song that should've been recorded in the mid '70s by Ray's friend, Jerry Reed. This leaves us with "I Don't Need None of That". That song could be described as just run of the mill for your typical Ray Stevens album which is usually filled with wacky or unique, clever songs. It has to do with people's low tolerance level towards little things in life that are annoying.
