Born To Roll, his debut album, is an album that stirs the soul. This is music for the masses, and the masses seem to get it. First single 'You Still Own Me' was a top 10 radio hit and a top 3 at CMT (#1 most requested by audience). His second single 'Sixty To Zero was named Hot Shot Video right out of the box. 2005.

Amazon.com essential recording
Few albums are as fueled by hope, possibility, and the lure of the open road as Born to Run, a virtual concept album about small-town Jerseyites in search of a better life via hot-rodding out on the turnpike, scoring some small-time hustle, or blowing out of town altogether, either across the river to New York City or west for parts unknown. Songs like "Jungleland," "Thunder Road," "Backstreets," and the title track are epic productions, both sonically and lyrically, borrowing from Phil Spector, Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, and West Side Story. When Born to Run was released in 1975, it earned then-unknown Springsteen the rare honor of simultaneous covers on both Time and Newsweek. The attention was warranted then, and it still is now. --Daniel DurchholzCustomer Reviews:
Dont deny this review because im a "kid".......2007-07-15
1. Thunder road:
As one reviewer said, its lyrically the best opining on any rock song.
"The screen door slams, Marys dress sways.
Like a vision she dances across the porch, as the radio plays.
Roy Orbison's singin for the lonely, hey thats me and I want you only.
Don't turn me home again, i just cant face myself alone again."
The song, like the whole album in general, speaks of wanting to get the hell out of jersey with Mary, and if the run, they can do it.
"I know its late, but we can make it (the train outa there) if we run."
2. Tenth Avenue
Again, the opining lines are pure genius
"Tear drops on the city, Bad Scooter (same initials as bruce springsteen) surchin, for his groove.
Seems like the whole worlds walkin pretty, and you can't find no room to move."
This song is about the forming of the E street band
B.S, is down and out, till the big man (Clarence, the saxophonist) comes and "joins the band". The song is, rocky, jazzy, and full of life.
3. Night
No need for a quote
Anyone who works late at night will relate to this song easily
4. Backstreet's
A lyrical symphony, song writing mastery...the illiad.
"Endless juke joints and Valentino drag, where dancers scraped the tears
Up off the street dressed down in rags, running into the darkness
Some hurt bad some really dying, at night sometimes it seemed
You could hear the whole damn city crying, blame it on the lies that killed us
Blame it on the truth that ran us down, you can blame it all on me terry
It don't matter to me now."
This one verse alone sums up the anger terry and Bruce feel. They love each other, but they try to act like hero's to impress each other, to cheer each other up, in a world that NEEDS cheering. But all it brings them is hate and sadness...
5. Born to run
The American song. Gives you a rush every time you hear it. By the end, you'll be pumpin your fist to the drums, yelling along with Bruce,
"The highway's jammed with broken hero's, on a last chance power drive
Everybody's out on the run tonight, but their's no place left to hide"
By the end of the song, you'll be standing, screaming at the top of your lungs "TRAMPS LIKE US, BABY WE WERE BORN TO RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNN!!"
6. She's the one
Eh, alright
7. Meeting across the river
"Eddy this guy he's the real thing
so if you wanna come along, you gotta promise you won't say anything, cause this guy don't dance
and words been passed this is our last chance"
Bruce and eddy are meeting with some dudes about something, but its big, and it could change the future for both of them. The piano/trumpet combo works great...
"Stay close tonight eddy, cause we got our selfs out on that line
and if we blow this one, they ain't just gonna be lookin for me this time
and all we gotta do his hold up our end...stuff this in your pocket, it'll look like your carrying a friend...
8. Jungleland
A perfect end, to a perfect album.
"Beneath the city two hearts beat
Soul engines running through a night so tender in a bedroom locked
In whispers of soft refusal and then surrender in the tunnels uptown
The rats own dream guns him down as shots echo down them hallways in the
Night
No one watches when the ambulance pulls away...Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light"
The song starts out Fast and furious, and features a great solo by Clarance...then gets dark, as the once happy barefoot woman and "rat", who had big dreams and aspirations, now see them shot down.
But, they learn to carry on, as did Bruce. Congrats. You created the best rock album of all time. I wonder how it feels...
If you haven't experienced "Born to Run"..........2007-07-07
The first song is the rock n' roll classic "Born to Run," where Bruce evokes the spirit of Roy Orbison to create a simply beautiful rock and roll song, undoubtedly one of the greatest ever. And the twangy, piano-heavy rock of the joyful "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" makes just another absolutely timeless song. "Night" is an incredible ride through the nightlife of New Jersey, and it showcases the band in the spotlight. "Backstreets" is nothing short of incredible, from it's pumped-up intro with the piano, organ, and guitar to the rallying late-song chorus. The title song is certainly one of rock n' roll's finest, just a perfect song to me. "She's the One" and "Meeting Across the River" are probably the two lesser known songs from this album, but both embrace the musical and emotional spirit of the rest of the album. The final song is possibly my favorite, "Jungleland." Simply an amazing rock song.
If I haven't been able to express it to this point, "Born to Run" is a purely astonishing work of rock n' roll music that can be enjoyed on so many levels. Young listeners just getting into rock and roll might consider making this one of their first purchases. Otherwise, this is simply a must-have piece to any musical collection.

The first retooling of any album in the mighty Springsteen catalog is an exemplary labor of love by Columbia. The original 1975 release was the make-or-break record of Bruce's career and arguably still his best collection of material. It is presented here on one disc unsullied by outtakes or inferior versions--just pristine digital remasters of those eight grittily romantic songs of street life that defined the artist's signature styles. The substantial bonuses are two new DVD programs, one featuring a full concert performance by Bruce and the E Street Band on their first date outside the U.S. at London's Hammersmith Odeon in November 1975, and the other a "making of" documentary including band interviews and contemporary concert footage. The whole handsome box truly honors a legendary recording while providing generous value for fans. The meat of the bonus material is the London show. A mythology has built around it that the band were so disorientated by travel and culture shock and Bruce so enraged by label-generated hype that they gave one of the worst performances of their career. Primitively shot by today's standards, the footage captures the brilliance of the relatively new band's ensemble playing. Highlights include a "Thunder Road" accompanied only by keyboards that opens the show, fiery solos on "Kitty's Back," a dynamic "Saint in the City," and a number of songs that have long since been retired. It's certainly notable how pensive and joyless Springsteen appears when compared to his later, animated stadium persona, but it's also fun to see the far greater role as foil played by Clarence Clemons. As he now testifies in the sleeve notes, putting lie to the myth, on that night they had "gone for broke," and as this writer can bear witness, the British audience exalted the show as the arrival of the greatest live performer of his generation. --Rob Stewart
The Best of Bruce
by guest editor Steve Perry

The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle
(1973)
After a folk-rockish debut album that bubbled with ideas and dense lyrical play, this is where Springsteen began to find his voice as a rocker and as a songwriter. The prisoner-of-love romanticism of "Rosalita" and "Incident on 57th Street" hinted at what was coming, and this early version of the E Street Band--jazzier and more spare than later versions, thanks largely to David Sancious's piano--sounds great, if a little ragged, these many years later.
Born to Run
(1975) and
Darkness on the Edge of Town
(1978)
These two records, which belong on any compilation of the top 100 rock albums of all time, sketched the themes that he would spend his whole career chasing, and defined the expectations fans would bring to his records ever after. The first chords of "Born to Run" sounded like freedom itself the first time I heard them on the radio, and the album lived up to them. "Thunder Road" is still the greatest rock & roll love song anyone's ever written. The record sounded so big and impassioned and propulsive it was easy to miss the dread running underneath it.
Darkness... put the dread front and center. There are more of his best songs here than anywhere else, even if the sound is muddy and leaden at times.
Nebraska
(1982)
After
The River (the best record that didn't make this list) and the ensuing tour answered his rock & roll prayers--he was a big star now, not just a perennial critics' favorite--Springsteen holed up in a rented house on the Jersey shore, where he wrote these songs and sang them into a four-track recorder in his living room. The tape was supposed to be a demo for the band, but after several false tries he concluded that the tape he'd been carrying around in his pocket was the record. Quiet and bleak,
Nebraska nonetheless grabbed you by the collar and made you listen as surely as his rock & roll records ever had.
Tunnel of Love
(1987)
The glare and hubbub surrounding the
Born in the USA tour (the tour was great--the record itself overrated) made him pull back again, this time to write a cycle of songs about love and fear and self-doubt. After this, Springsteen's first marriage broke up, and he started a family with Patti Scialfa, disappearing for the better part of 10 years, notwithstanding the pair of not-bad, just-disappointing albums he released in 1992,
Human Touch and
Lucky Town.
The Ghost of Tom Joad
(1995)
Some call it
Nebraska II, but his second acoustic album was not a repeat of his first--the characters and settings had changed, and their circumstances were more expressly desperate, and social--though it did share the same interest in what happens to people whose isolation or marginal status renders them invisible.
The Rising
(2002)
Everybody, including Springsteen, seemed to think it was a record about 9/11, but the subject was broader--death and loss as seen from more than halfway down life's road. Dave Marsh nailed it: "A middle-aged man confronts death and chooses life" Brendan O'Brien's production sounds great.

I would recommend the 3-disc remaster only for fans who are already familiar with the album and are further interested. The bonus material includes a "making-of" documentary and a live performance in London. Having seen Bruce live, I can say that the concert footage doesn't do him justice. The spectacle that is a Bruce Springsteen performance is a spectacular experience, and it's impossible to portray on video. Besides, Bruce is very young and appears a little overwhelmed in this footage, and I'm sure there's better available if that's what you're looking for. The packaging is pretty bulky. Old fans will probably enjoy the 30th Anniversary edition, but new fans should stick to the more economical Born to Run package.

Worth it.......2007-05-07
The documentary has all sorts of interesting and funny insights into the production of the album, as well as insights into Springsteen himself. The concert DVD has shoddy picture, which is to be expected, but the sound quality and the quality of the performance itself more than make up for it. The picture booklet seems almost perfunctory, an afterthought, but even still, there are some interesting shots in it. And, again, the remastered audio will only sound different if you've got good headphones or speakers to begin with, but if you have that, it's wonderful.
If you're a fan, if you like good documentaries, or if you like a good concert on DVD, get this album. If you just want the songs and you're not an audiophile, just pick up the cheaper, non-30th Anniversary CD (which I don't believe was remastered, but I may be wrong).
Great album and package.......2007-04-29
The documentary DVD is interesting, but you may only watch it once - however documentaries are very subjective and what I found uninteresting you may love.
The concert DVD as other people have said is a bit dark! However, the performances are excellent, the E Street band are on fire, and I found it enthralling to see (or not!) Bruce and the band 30 years ago performing with such passion.
If you haven't already got Born to Run you should buy this, if you have, do what I did and get as a birthday present.

There's no better example of American pop culture's hall-of-mirrors ethos than producer Alan Carr's relentlessly buoyant 1978 film adaptation of the stage musical Grease. Inspired by that decade's rampant 50's nostalgia, it now paradoxically evokes the campy 70's excesses that spawned it. That sense of recycled decades in collision is underscored repeatedly on this deluxe, double-disc Grease-fest, especially on the set's second disc of bonus materials that spans vintage singles of the title track (its instrumental B-side) and "Greased Lightnin'," some sing-along karaoke tracks, and a handful of alternately slick/techo-savvy remixes (originally produced for the film's 20th anniversary) that are testament to its enduring, era-defying appeal. The original soundtrack itself has been treated to a stellar digital remastering that fills disc one, and remains a joyous monument to camp, sheer ambition, and exuberant nostalgic illusions. Includes a slip-cased, double-fold-out case and new booklet with complete song lyrics. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

Prepare to be transported to Summer Nights.......2006-03-26
This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.
Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06
Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.
This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.
The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.

Standard George Rock & Roll.......2007-06-05
This CD is a rocker with tons of highlights. Serious rock and roll includes the reworked Elmore James tune "Shake Your Moneymaker" (an absolute pounder), "You Talk Too Much," and "Born to Be Bad," basically the sequel to "Bad to the Bone," his signature song that everyone knows. Other really good tracks that I like are "I'm Ready" (a Fats Domino tune), "Treat Her Right," and "I Really Like Girls," in which George proclaims his love of the fairer sex by repeating that he "really really really really really really likes girls," and then tells you what he likes about them, in case you were wondering. As usual, George reworks other old blues tunes like "Smokestack Lightning" and "Highway 49" (both Howlin' Wolf penned songs), a Chuck Berry song "You Can't Catch Me," and writes his own new standards, like "I Really Like Girls" and the absolutely hilarious now classic "You Talk Too Much," which any straight man in the world who's married or who's ever had a garrulous girlfriend (and who hasn't) can relate to. This is a solid album with no low points. It's one of his best, and probably one of his most commercial, but it's still George's very basic bare bones rock and roll. By the way, if you like George at all, you have to see him live because that's where he really shines. His live shows are still as good as anybody. He's a workhorse. I've seen him several times over the years and he's still great.
A solid offering..........2007-02-06
Bad to the Bone ---Badder than Metal.......2007-02-01
It's a shame old George doesn't get the props musically that he deserves, but I guess blues journeymen are used to that. I hope he's made lots of bucks off the royalties from those commercials his music is featured in (Sam Adams, pickup trucks).
One of the things I've noticed about GT & the D's recordings over the years is there are usually 3 or four great songs on each one. Back in the old vinyl days, that wasn't enough to assure commercial success. But nowadays, with music down loads, you can pick the tunes you want for your personalized playlist.
My favorite four on this disc are: ' Shake Your Moneymaker', 'You Talk Too Much', 'Born to Be Bad', and 'I Really Like Girls'. If you have a convertable, this is top-down-full blast-roaring-down-the-highway music. If you don't have the car, 'Born to Be Bad' also is served well with beer and barbeque at parties, or boogie-down forest preserve picnic-fests.
Hey you metal-heads. Try this on for size. Definitely designed to get you rockin'.

The "Difinitive Collection" 1966-1990.......2005-02-19
This Retrospective comes with a fact filled booklet that gives an in depth history of Steppenwolf including some Great Photos.
The booklet alone is worth the price of admission. And thats just for starters. The encore presentation in this collection is the music.
Be prepared to get your rocks off with Hits like:
Magic Carpet Ride- Sookie Sookie- Rock Me- Move Over- Everybody's Next One- For Ladies Only- It's Never Too Late-
The Pusher- Screaming Night Hog- Born To Be Wild-
Hey Lawdy Mama- and the John Kay Hit "I'm Movin On".
Steppenwolf "Retrospective" is for everyone and anyone who wants a little wolf in their lives. John Kay calls this an Excellent Collection of the bands music. Today, Steppenwolf operates without any major label financing. They even have their own in house 24 track recording studio and they continue to tour several months out of the year.
Final thought:
There is nothing retro about this Retrospective.
It is as current today as it was back then. "Go For It" !!
That's real NOW, man!.......2004-09-15
Along with Iron Butterfly, I consider Steppenwolf to be one of the bands that really defined the psychadelic rock scene in the late 60's, until the arrival of Led Zeppelin blew everyone away.
You will NOT be dissapointed with this collection. From "Twisted" to the much later live version of "Born To Be Wild" and Kay's 80's projects, Steppenwolf's folk and R&B roots can clearly be heard.
This compilation is not for the casual Steppenwolf fan; there are "best of" albums out there for you. If you are interested in the evolution and metamorphosis of rock n' roll bands, however, this 2-CD set is for you.

Some really great tracks.......2005-08-05
"Queen of 1959" is a middle aged love song to someone who is obviously the love of his life. Nice to see that those feelings are still there after all the years. It gives hope for the future of marriage.
All in all, some great tracks on this set.
Will it change your life? That depends, but hear this once!.......2004-12-31
Spector had all but retired from music after his self-proclaimed masterpiece of "River Deep-Mountain High" with Ike & Tina Turner had taken the charts by storm in Europe, but flopped badly in the States. His work with the Beatles (both collectively & individually) had made him a working producer again, but other than that, Spector seemed to want to work on a project-by-project basis, and when Dion hooked up with him for 1975's BORN TO BE WITH YOU, Spector had again dropped out of work.
The resulting album was not the commercial bonanza that was predicted, and critical response was muted at best. In the 3 decades since its release, however, BORN TO BE WITH YOU has gone the way of a lot of Spector's later-period works by becoming a cult classic & one of those albums that those who claim to love it, really & truly adore it. Even Dion had little good to say about the finished product, claiming to be just one small part of Spector's massive wall of sound. Those who only know of BORN TO BE WITH YOU from its impossibly-high legendary status will take care to listen to it at least once in their lives, even if admittedly, it may not be for all tastes.
As it looked, Spector could only muster up enough strength to put his work on 6 of the album's 8 songs, with the other 2 being produced by others, but having Spector conduct the orchestra on them (his most recent work with Starsailor was another such matter, with only 2 songs resulting from the collaboration). Apparently, Spector was rather shaken by the visitation of Bruce Springsteen and Steve Van Zandt to the sessions shortly after Bruce had made the covers of TIME & NEWSWEEK. But those 6 songs are nothing short of breathtaking, and Dion manages to rise above the din to make them his own.
The title track, which had been a hit for the Chordettes in the 1950s, is a 7-minute wall of sound demonstration if anything, literally surrounding the listener with echo and raw musical emotion. For someone who refused to use the most up-to-date recording technology, Spector achieved a real coup in making this song sound like the second coming as much as possible. When the song was edited down by only a minute for a single, radio airplay was perhaps still not in the cards, and honestly, would you want to see a natural wonder like this cut to shreds?
The Spector songs on BORN TO BE WITH YOU had the master producer working with some of the songwriters who had helped him make his legend in the 1960s, and likely this was to make him feel like he was working in the good old days. It worked because even though this was 1975, these songs could easily have been at home in the previous decade. Case in point is my favorite "Make The Woman Love Me". Having been recorded by Cher a little earlier, the team of Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil had created another hearttugging masterpiece just like "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", and Dion was perhaps THE man to sing it. A lot of people claim that it borders on a stalker's plea, but Dion sings it with such passion & feeling, who would turn him down? He seems to be singing to God for help in winning this woman's love, so this is maybe a secular version of the religious material Dion would record a little later in his career after he had "found God".
After those two magnificent introductory songs, the rest of BORN TO BE WITH YOU was bound to pale in comparison, and it does for the most part. Yet there's no denying that Spector's painstaking attention to detail will help make even the more uninspired material wonders to behold. "Only You Know" & "In & Out Of The Shadows" (both co-written by Spector with Gerry Goffin) are examples of songs which are quite good in the end, but sound a bit anticlimactic after the grandeur of the first two.
Speaking of anticlimaxes, the non-Spector (or non-directly Spector, I should say) material cannot hold a candle to the songs he had a firm hand in creating. "Your Own Backyard" was a song Dion had recorded several years earlier shortly after he took a vow of sobriety, and was one of the most frightening and heartwrenching songs yet recorded. The second time around does not produce the same results, and one can only wonder how it would have sounded had Spector decided to not just simply direct the orchestra...an already scary song could have been the stuff of nightmares! "New York City Song" could also have benefited from something more than Cashman & West's overly-folky approach to production.
"[He's Got] The Whole World In His Hands" comes the closest to meeting those masterpieces with a much more reverent approach to singing God's praises, especially in the vocal arrangement which I hope is what greets me whenever I reach that great record store in the sky. Even this early, it is apparent that Dion's religious reformation was honest & true. It may be a bit too reverent for some listeners, but it is worth their best shot.
The album closes out with "Good Lovin' Man" (which Dion co-wrote with the master himself), which is the most authentic-sounding homage to Dion's early 1960s material, only magnified to the nth power thanks to Spector's Cinemascope production. Whoever does the background vocals, they are not credited on the album, but they give a fabulous vocalist like Dion a run for his money, and the contest ends in a draw with both of them working wonderfully together. The bonus track "Baby, Let's Stick Together" (co-written with Jeff Barry) works the same way, and it is a mystery why this did not make the final album because it would have fit in perfectly.
So maybe BORN TO BE WITH YOU has a slight reputation as a project that sounded exciting on paper, but did not meet expectations (how could it?!) in the end. Just maybe, it was TOO ambitious, and people did not or could not have the patience to endure repeated listens to discover different nuances every time. People like Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream and Jason Pierce of Spiritualized, who have clearly taken their extreme love of the album to bear in their own music, were probably ones who could, and just maybe they can be proof that BORN TO BE WITH YOU can change your life if you let it. I'm sure Dion's and Phil Spector's opinions of this album have improved in recent years, so if you can allow yourself enough time to take in all that this record has to offer, BORN TO BE WITH YOU just may turn out to be the legend a select & lucky few have deemed it to be.
STUNNING DION MASTERPIECE~BRAVO!!!.......2004-07-12
Dion Rocks.......2004-06-21
aspire to greatness.......2003-07-25
the title song is also one that grows on the listener, and i essentially enjoyed all the other phil spector production numbers with the painful exception of "he's got the whole world in his hands" - that should have been left off the album.
The 2 other songs on the album, "you're own backyard" and "New york City Song" are both first rate, and more of what you'd expect from dion. they sound like they would fit better on the "sanctuary" album than on this album because they are clean and strightforward recordings (no wall of sound).
the streetheart album is memorable for "if i could just get thru the night" . the rest of the album is nothing more than bonus tracks compared to the born to be with you collection of songs, which clearly aspire to greatness, and actually achieve that goal several times

Cool LP Sleeve Design, Not So Great Sound!.......2006-03-26
Why just 4 stars then? Well, the recording isn't remastered and so the sound is about the same quality as the cheaper U.S. press that you can get you hands on elsewhere and I'm supposing the 30th Anniversary edition that's just been released and is apparently remastered/enhanced (I've not heard it and so I can't confirm the quality)may actually sound a lot better.
As far as unremastered discs go, this is probably quite decent if you don't mind the muddy sound but seeing as how practically everybody and their grannies have had their classic albums remastered and cleaned up, I wonder what's keeping Bruce's people from doing the same.
So unless you are a very big fan of lp sleeves like I am, you may not want to spend the extra bucks on this.
Don't get me wrong, the album is still great with regards the tracks but I guess if you already have this, what's it going to take to make you wanna get another version of the same thing? I'm guessing it's either vastly improved sound quality and/or improved packaging. This disc only fulfils one of these two criteria so you decide what you wanna do.
By the way, it's the same with the other titles in this format like "Born In the U.S.A." and "Darkness...Town" etc. just so you know. As I don't already have copies of these discs, I didn't mind too much but I don't know about you.

The BEST Gershwin/Porter album.......2004-02-11
Glowing Coles of Porter..........2004-01-15
Frederick Fennell is right at home in the warmth of these beautifully wrought Ray Wright orchestrations. As he should be; Wright's day job was orchestrating for Radio City Music Hall. The sound is lush, the dynamics amazing, the performance spot on. It gets four stars only because I can't justify five, not having heard the Gershwin half.
I suppose that if you can't find a nice copy to play on a good turntable with a warm amplifier, then this CD would do - but then, you miss the excitement of hearing sound you've been taught can only come from a CD, magically floating straight up from ancient vinyl.
