This is just like waking up on Christmas morning and finding a new Ventures album or a new Stray Cats album or a new Beatles album or a new Tijuana Brass album under your tree. Remember all the excitement generated when you knew your favorite group had a new record out? Well, this release, GUITARS OVER TEXAS, is like the best of the very best, the very best of Ventures guitar (Nokie) mixed with the ultimate roots American band, The Light Crust Doughboys, and its Texas touch. This is like finding out The Tijuana Brass or The Ventures are still issuing new collections of songs for the USA.

My whole family, from husband to parents to kids, is mesmerized by this CD and its songs and its arrangements and requests this CD almost every time we take to the road.

We have hear beat band magic. We have the very best of combo sounds. We have an incredibly exciting, almost "live" sound on these cuts.

Surf Meets Western Swing for Instrumental Best.......2003-10-12

The Light Crust Doughboys and Ventures' guitarist Nokie have done it again and have created one of the best adventures in guitar music and instrumental pop/country. It's a classic, yet unique sound that they've perfected here, including piano on many of the rock-pop instrumentals for a very classy and polished approached to the beat/combo sound. Nokie's guitar tone, as always, is something to be studied for generations, and The Light Crust Doughboys are masters of their instruments. Why can't we hear music like this as lead-ins to TV and radio newscasts across the country? This is simply the very best of American instrumental music, and I dare say Japanese and other international fans will go nuts over this album due to the many Ventures-style melodies and the songs in minor keys. It's a fabulous variety here, for after having covered Ventures-Shadows-Surfaris and more, the roots Americana music is brilliantly featured with that hot, string band Light Crust Doughboys' perfection. Just imagine what a world tour of this music--The Light Crust Doughboys with Nokie Edwards--playing classic surf then ripping into western swing and cowboy jazz---then ripping back into "guitar heaven"--imagine what an impact this would make on the world's appreciation of American music. Nobody does it better than Nokie and The Doughboys. We sure have Amazon to thank for stocking these gems of releases that are so outclassing so much of major label releases. This album is perfect driving music, perfect listening music, perfect "playing guitar with" music, perfect American music. I can never get enough of this sound, surf meets western swing!
