Editorial Reviews
Sweet Peas Revenge is one of the top independent original rock acts in the South. The band tours extensively throughout the Southeast and the West, playing to appreciative crowds at well-known venues such as the House of Blues and Tipitinas in New Orleans, Louisiana; Tasty World in Athens, Georgia; Judge Roy Beans in Fairhope, Alabama; Proud Larrys in Oxford, Mississippi; Third and Lindsey in Nashville, Tennessee; Jimmy Buffetts Margaritaville in Key West, Florida; Buffalo Rose in Golden, Colorado; The Ritz in Colorado Springs; and Quixotes True Blue in Denver.
SPR has also been active on the festival scene, appearing at the 2004 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, as well as the Steel Pony Biker Festival in New Orleans, the Florida SpringFest, Lafayettes Downtown Alive, and Mobiles BayFest. Some of the acts that SPR has played with include Randall Bramlett, Government Mule, George Porter, Jr., and Delbert McClinton.
The trio includes Jim Brown, lead guitar and vocals; Stephen Randall, drums; and Andy Mayer, bass. Together, they create powerful roots rock/alt country music that draws from diverse influences such as Dire Straits, Robert Earl Keen, and the Allman Brothers.
Critics have unanimously praised the band, with comments such as "Some critics say Sweet Pea's Revenge serves up a gumbo of music--steaming blues, rock and funk influences. We'd say it's a bit more of a bisque--buttery and smooth, a la such influences as Dire Straits, Santana and Widespread Panic. Either way, it's a tasty sound" (Colorado Springs Gazette, November 22, 2002); "Vocalist and guitarist Jim Brown is a talent, with a rough-edge voice that is alternately seductive, strong and soulful. His noodling . . . evokes Santana"; and "Their music is truly an original mix of Bayou blues and Southern rock, with a groove that'll keep you dancing all night long." (Alibi, Albuquerque, NM).
Sweet Peas Revenge is based in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Pensacola, Florida.
