Say what you will about the purple one--he's overly friendly, he's generally tiresome--but toddlers and preschoolers can't get enough of him. Legions of youngsters will delight in Barney's Greatest Hits, a 25-track compendium of the playful dinosaur's best-loved tunes. Watchers of the phenomenally popular TV show won't find anything unfamiliar here. Included are many Barney originals, including "If All the Raindrops"; "Peanut Butter"; "BJ's Song"; "My Yellow Blankie"; "There Are Seven Days"; the "Yankee Doodle Dandy"-inspired theme song; and, of course, "I Love You," the show's warm and fuzzy closing number. Barney also puts his happy-go-lucky spin on a handful of traditional songs, including "Pop Goes the Weasel," "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt," "The Wheels on the Bus," and "Itsy Bitsy Spider." There's no denying this record's exceptionally high burn factor where grownups are concerned, but those merciful enough to endure a rash of repeat listens may reap behavioral benefits. Songs such as "Please and Thank You," a reinforcement of the power of the magic words, and "The Friendship Song," a gently persuasive track preaching that kindness is king (especially among playmates), have a Lego-like way of connecting with very young kids. They non-confrontationally encourage young listeners to add to their repertoire of praiseworthy habits, no nagging required. For focused caregivers, such a reward takes the sting out of these almost unbearably syrupy songs. In fact, only those whose threshold for corny kids stuff is seriously low ought to be excused from sucking it up and brightening a little kid's day with a spin or two of "Barney's Greatest Hits." --Tammy La Gorce

2 out of 5 stars Not at all what the cover said.......2007-03-28

I purchased this CD for my daughter (20 months old) who loves Barney.
I got this CD instead of the other Barney CD's because it said that it had the opening song and the "I Love You" song. Which is what Barney is mainly known for, those two songs and I couldnt Find another Barney CD that had both of those songs on one CD.
Anyways, i got the CD, read the back to see the tracks, played it..
And the first song was what the CD cover told me it would be, but from the second song onwards, the songs did not match the CD cover, there was no song at all that matched up. It didnt even have the "I Love You" song at the end! I was extreamly anoyed, My daughter loves the I Love You song, she sings it, she asks for it in the car.. but i cant play the one song that she loves most.
I dont know if it is just my CD, but i would asume that it would be every CD that was sold.. of this particular Barney Album
So yes, my rating is low, but the songs are still good. Im just upset that i cant play the one song my daughter can sing to and loves the most.

5 out of 5 stars Kicking it Old School with B to the D!.......2007-02-12

Awwww Snap! No you didn't! No you didn't! Aww heck yeah, it's my boy MC B to the D kicking it old school with all his greatest hits!

Barney lays down some outstanding tracks here with his signature theme, classic covers like John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt (his name just happens to be my name too, yo!), remixes like Pop Goes the Weasel and traditional standards like Do Your Ears Hang Low? & Its Bitsy Spider.

I'm telling you yo, it doesn't get any better than this disc. I think this stuff's da bomb, and my kids dig it as well. You can have your Teletubbies, Wiggles, Cheetah Girls..take 'em. Just give me some old school Barney, and me & my boys will kick it old school. Know what I'm saying?

5 out of 5 stars Speechless..so dark and cold.......2007-01-12

This is 'the' CD to own. If you like Burzum, Darkthrone, Mayhem, or Immortal you will absolutely love this. This is the blackest of the black. Kvlt black metal for corpse paint commandos only. Too bad this band broke up, they had so much potential. I can't even describe this. It captures the emotion of isolation perfectly.

5 out of 5 stars Pure skull shattering Norwegian black metal.......2006-04-21

I came across this gem in a local mom and pop CD store while looking for some good black metal. The bored looking guy behind the desk told me to look no further than this masterpiece, so I bought it. I love the sleeve art, very primitive, yet pure black metal. And the music? Let's not get me started. Alright, I'm started. From the opening gargling-razors roar of "Barney Theme Song" to the moody, atmospheric synths of "Apples And Bananas," this disk delivers on all war-torn fronts. I played "Sally The Camel" for my friend Jeff in the car one day, and he raised his horns in the air and announced allegiance to the Barney underground.

Highly recommended for fans of later Bathory and Graveworm!

5 out of 5 stars Starlight......Starbright!.......2007-06-23

Joyful! This is a star studded collection guaranteed to take you down memory lane almost hand in hand with Linda. Her intimate song stylings could even make standards and ballads seem like golden oldies, for she is vivacious, sparkling and exuberant! You may relive first love like it's a walk in the park. All of these songs about stars seem a metaphor for the singer...a star in her own right. In this collection are ten song titles about "stars" and even some moonbeams thrown in too. There are 8 songs in a row about stars. It's a rare and impeccable CD!

5 out of 5 stars Forgotten singers.......2007-05-14

This is a great album by a cute little gal with a big voice. Her songs were popular when I was a young man out of high school and it's great to relive them.

5 out of 5 stars Linda Scott album.......2007-03-14

Wow, really neat sounds. I loved the hits as well as the other songs on the CD. If you love the girl sounds of the 50's and 60's, you'll love this album! I recommend it highly!

5 out of 5 stars Linda Scott: Star Vocalist.......2007-01-13

Linda Scott was unfortunately an underrated talent by the media. She had a great vocal instrument and she knew how to utilize it to its fullest capacity. Her bright sparkling voice has an instant appeal. She knew how to phrase the lyric and deliver the melody in stunning fashion. She had many hits including the million seller, "I Told Every Little Star" which was recently featured in David Lynch's film, "Mulholland Drive". She was originally signed to a recording contract by the Winnipeg record mogul, Neil Galligan, who produced all the songs on this release. I treasure the fact that a local personality was responsible for bringing this great talent to a wider audience. I always felt that she should have had a broader following like Petula Clark. The arrival of The Beatles really put a damper on the American Pop Rock Ballad Singer. Woman singers like Lesley Gore, Connie Francis, Connie Stevens et al went into a sharp decline and had to find other venues for their talent. The British invasion had their pop rock ballad singer equivalents like Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck, Petula Clark and Dusty Springfield but their American counterparts like Gene Pitney, Bobby Vee, Ricky Nelson, Dionne Warwick and many others were relagated to the backburner. But now here is Linda Scott once more sounding great in a state-of-the-art compact disc. Eric Records deserves our deepest gratitude and highest praise for this superlative release. Perhaps, they might consider releasing more or all of her recordings as she never made a bad record. An artist of Linda Scott's calibre deserves to have her releases in public domain once more. I am certain her great song stylings will be appreciated by many old and new fans alike. It's wonderful that these songs are available again by this great singer. Linda Scott's time has finally come again!

3 out of 5 stars I can't believe it !!.......2006-02-25

Actually, I haven't purchased this item yet. I'm just thrilled to find it. I've been searching for the song "Starlight, Starbright" for years, without really knowing the exact name of the song. Long, long ago, when I was about to enter the 7th grade, I heard this song when I was at a friends house. The old 45 record had actually been purchased for "Don't Bet Money, Honey" but I liked the flip side better. Everytime that I went down the street to visit my friend Debby, I got out "Starlight, Starbright, and played it as loud and as long as she would let me. I've sung it over the years to my friends, but no one knew the exact name or who had sung it. Thank goodness for the internet....it saved the day. After long hours of searching, I've finally found THE song. Just had to share my joy! YIPPEE!

5 out of 5 stars A Few Of These Songs Are Among The Best I Have Ever Heard !.......2006-11-08

And I mean that! Cliff Richard has one of the most incredible voices I have ever heard in my life! If you like good 80s pop songs (from 1979-1988); you are missing out on a tremendous talent by not having this CD. Like me; several of you will remember three songs here. The outstanding duet with Olivia Newton-John called, Suddenly, plus you will also remember, Dreamin, and, We Don't Talk Anymore, but I think there are songs here that are just as good or even better than those three so I'll list a few of them. Little Town, and, Mistletoe And Wine, are beautiful tunes for the Holiday Season. The songs, Some People, True Love Ways, and his stunning duet with Sarah Brightman called, All I Ask Of You, are three more that are great and Sir Cliff's voice will send chills down your spine on, Daddy's Home, and, Ocean Deep. Speaking as a customer; I'm saying these songs are gorgeous. Several of these tunes are perfect to share with that special someone in your life.....Yes they are that romantic. I know my spouse sure loves this music.....Highly Recommended.
Final Note: Like the songs; the sound quality on this Disc is super!

4 out of 5 stars Great pop album from Peter Pan of Pop .......2006-01-29

Hi,this one is a great album from the man who dominated the U.K rock 'n roll and pop music for almost 3 decades. He made some alltime hits with the unforgettable songs in 60's and 70's.In 80's also he released some great tracks, which are very much in sync with that time.If you like 80's melodious pop and rock, this one is the right album for you.Every song from this album is great and you'll enjoy listening to it.

5 out of 5 stars Cliff in the eighties.......2005-03-12

This collection contains all except one (a re-recording of Living doll made for charity) of Cliff's UK top twenty hits during the period 1979 to 1988, which was a very successful period in Cliff's career. The tracks include True love ways (with the London Philharmonic Orchestra), Suddenly (with Olivia Newton John), She means nothing to me (with Phil Everly) and All I ask of you (with Sarah Brightman).

Of the solo tracks here, We don't talk anymore (a UK number one hit in 1979 - the oldest track here) and Mistletoe and wine (a Christmas song and a UK number one hit in 1988 - the newest track here) are the most famous but there are many other great songs including Dreaming, Some people and My pretty one.

Of course, the committed fans will (if they can afford it) already have the six-CD singles boxed set, but that omits all the duets that I mentioned earlier. Until a compilation of Cliff's duets is released, even committed fans may want this collection for those tracks.

Cliff had a few minor hits during the eighties that aren't included but this is a fine collection, proving that Cliff was able to adapt his music to appeal to a new generation of fans.

If you enjoy Cliff's music of the eighties and aren't bothered about (or already have) his other music, you'll love this set. If you buy this together with 40 golden greats (covering his earlier music), you'll have the majority of Cliff's hits from his first thirty years of music.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Best Retrospective of Sir Cliff That's Out There and Very Well Remastered To Boot!.......2006-02-26

This is by far the best album of Sir Cliff that tells the whole story of his development as an artiste over all these decades. It doesn't have all his hits but that's okay as this album is called the whole STORY and not the whole CATALOG.

It tells the story of how a young teenage heart-throb started out in the late 50's as the front man of the Shadows (another great band by the way)to produce safe, goody two shoes-type rock and roll that won a lot of fans (my mum included!)and ends in the 90's as a middle aged, seasoned performer, maturing in his faith and spiritual life as well.

Looking back, it's not surprising given his good looks and the way the record company packaged him that he was going to be so successful but to attribute this as the sole reason for his success would be disrespecting the music and the Shadows as the great quality of both the material and the backing band played very important parts as well.

Starting with the rocker "Move It", disc one ends with "Dreaming" representing a more adult Cliff covering more adult themes as in "Devil Woman" (brilliant song by the way), "Miss You Nights" and "We Don't Talk Anymore".

Disc 2 continues to describe the growth of the artiste but now more so than from a mere physical/chronological aging but from a spiritual and religious aging perspective as well as the material moves from "Wired for Sound" to "Some People", "From a Distance", "Saviour's Day", "Peace in Our Time" and ending with "The Millenium Prayer".

Not only are the track selections excellent, this album has been remastered very well and so the sound quality is brilliant. No other album showcases the "Whole Story" of Cliff's journey through his life and musical career as this one does on two discs and with 46 tracks, you are certainly getting great value for money.

    Very highly recommended.

    2 out of 5 stars It's not his fault.......2005-09-09

Basil Khamis wins himself no friends with his sarcastic comment "Cliff Richard, an accomplished guitarist & lead singer with a genuine feel for the music, was Britain's answer to Elvis Presley". Ok, so Cliff wasn't much good but he always tried his best.

5 out of 5 stars This is a great summary of Cliff.......2005-08-12

Cliff's five decade career is nicely summarized with this collection than concludes with his 2000 single "The Millennium Prayer." Being said before, there are songs that are missing, some a bit glaring like "A Little In Love" and "Suddenly," his hit duet with Olivia Newton John from the film "Xanadu." These omissions do nothing from making this two disc set an awesome comprehensive and well mastered collection. This cd set opens with his first hit "Move It," and follows chronologically featuring hit singles from his films to close with the aforementioned last single recorded during the twentieth century. Cliff is continuing to record and release albums and will no doubt follow up this release with yet another album of hits in the next few years. Keep 'em coming, Cliff.

    5 out of 5 stars A journey through time, emotions & Rock'n'Roll..........2005-06-27

    14 No.1 hits, 10 No.2 hits, 7 No.3 hits, 6 No.4 hits, 38 Top 5 hits, 66 Top 10 hits, 95 Top 20 hits, 120 Top 40 hits ... quite a bit eh!

Cliff Richard, an accomplished guitarist & lead singer with a genuine feel for the music, was Britain's answer to Elvis Presley. Cliff dominated the pre-Beatles British rock scene in the late '50s & early '60s. Cliff has had over a 130 hits & was one of the founding members of The Drifters later to be known as Cliff Richard & the Shadows.

In the period between 1958 & 1963, Cliff Richard & the Shadows stood as the biggest thing in Britain. They toured the United States & most often stole the show from the accompanying American acts of the time. Cliff & the Shadows basically re-wrote convention in British recording companies & opened EMI up to the importance & strength of rock'n'roll. It was due to them that Parlophone were looking for a 'second' Cliff & the Shadows, & eventually took on the Beatles.

Many well known groups of the 1960s & 1970s started off as imitators of Cliff & the Shadows, singing & playing only Cliff Richards' material & groups were trained by following how they did things. The Beatles were taken to Cliff Richard concerts & instructed about clothes, stage presence & various other things, & being of the same fold at Abbey Road, were good friends with the band.

With regard to this compilation the title may be a little misleading. There is absolutely no way you can tell "the whole story" of a career like Cliff Richard's on just two CDs & 46 tracks, Cliff Richard has sold more singles in the UK than any other music artist, ahead of the Beatles in second place & Elvis Presley in third. However this does include nearly all his major hits, all in chronological order, from 'Move It' & 'Living Doll' in the late 50s, to the last two Top 10 hits 'Can't Keep This Feeling In' & 'Millennium Prayer'.

There are a few omissions though - no sign of 'Congratulations' although it was a No. 1 hit in 1968. In fact, the collection jumps from 'The Day I Met Marie' in 1967 to his second Eurovision entry 'Power To All Our Friends' in 1973, so by leaving out five years altogether it omits quite a bit. Nevertheless most of the bona-fide favorites are here, from 'Bachelor Boy' & 'The Minute You're Gone' to 'Devil Woman', 'Miss You Nights' & 'We Don't Talk Anymore'. The recent era is well represented with the inclusion of 'Saviour's Day' & 'Peace In Our Time'.

A good addition to any collection.

5 out of 5 stars Great overview of Cliff's career.......2004-10-24

Compiling a collection of Cliff's hits on just one or two CD's is never easy, because there are so many good ones as the six CD boxed set (Singles collection) demonstrates. Most people really don't want that many CD's by one singer, even one as brilliant as Cliff. This double CD contains a reasonable selection of his UK hits from 1958 to 2000 that will satisfy most people. If you are looking for a particular song that isn't here or if you are only interested in a particular period of his career, there are many other Clifftastic compilations around quite apart from that boxed set.

Cliff had his greatest commercial successes in the fifties and sixties but of the 46 tracks here, only 20 are from that part of his career. Perhaps the compilers felt that anybody who wanted those songs already had them anyway, but it is worth noting that Voice in the wilderness, Fall in love with you, Nine times out of ten, Theme for a dream, A girl like you, When the girl in your arms, I'm looking out the window, Lucky lips, Twelfth of never, Wind me up and Congratulations are among the major sixties UK hits (all top four or higher) that were left out of this collection. Some of these songs are not as popular as they once were and were left out for that reason, but I don't believe all of them fit that description.

26 tracks represent the seventies onwards, culminating in The millennium prayer - actually Auld lang syne sung to the tune of The Lord's prayer (December 2000). While this period contained many more Cliff hits in total than the fifties and sixties, there were plenty of minor hits among them. Every UK top ten solo hit is included from 1973 (Power to all our friends) onwards.

As an overview of Cliff's career, this is brilliant despite the fact that I would have preferred more sixties songs and fewer from the eighties and nineties. In any case, you might not agree with me. If you only want one collection of Cliff's music and you are interested in his whole career, choose this or the boxed set according to how much of his music you want.

I love every song on this double-CD. A lot of the songs bring back some wonderful childhood memories. I like it so much I bought one for myself and another one for by brother as a gift. I've enjoyed it and continue to enjoy it. I know you will, too.

4 out of 5 stars The one to get..........2006-10-05

For a heady period of around two years from mid 1960 The Shadows delivered some brilliant and timeless music... coupled with, and followed by, a vast amount of MOR muzak. But, unlike the other incomplete or "do I really want to hear what happened next?" compilations out there this one's the only one that's got all the classics: "Apache", "FBI", "Wonderful Land", "The Savage", "The Stranger", "Midnight", "36-24-36", and the breathtakingly beautiful, pure early 60's "Peace Pipe". Perfectly formed examples of a lost world of guitar driven excitement & atmosphere.

5 out of 5 stars Not the whole but this is enough for starters.......2003-10-21

This has to be one of the most essential greatest hits collections around. Cliff is one of the most versatile people in pop and this record has many of his best moments from his rock n' roll debut, through his boy band style chart busters, his religious hits, his rock return in the mid '70s and the later songs that made him into the new Santa Claus. He is a much underrated artist mainly due to those people who judge music by lifestyle rather than sound. But he is still one of the UK's top legends. May he carry on!

3 out of 5 stars Cliff Richard : King of UK music.......2003-10-20

Cliff Richard is the most sucessfull domestic recoring artist of all-time with over 120 U.K hit singles under his belt, over the last 6 decades. This is a good sampler.

5 out of 5 stars A timeless, magical collection from one of the great voices........2003-04-04

Although this CD is like a sentimental journey through five decades of hits (and testimony to the VERY best of British pop music through the ages), these beautiful songs and Cliff's faultless vocals are truly timeless. The early "Rock&Roll" type songs "Move It", "Bachelor Boy", "Living Doll", (watch it, Cliff, - locking women in trunks is v. un-p.c.) and are rhythmic, melodic and make you "wanna dance" - unlike the junk you get in the charts nowadays - and above all are fun. The love ballads (even those recorded when Cliff was very young eg "I Love You", "The Young Ones",) are sung with such sensitivity and depth of feeling, and the later ballads e.g. "Miss You Nights", "We Don't Talk Anymore" and "I Still Believe In You" are profoundly moving and possess deep, inner beauty which speaks to the soul. Many songs on this album also promote unity, harmony and love (in a Christian not romantic sense) eg "Power to all our friends", "From a distance" and "Millennium Prayer" and these touch the heart as Cliff's amazing voice is allied to undoubted heartfelt sincerity. He truly believes in his music. He's not fake. There's no singer I ever heard who communicates such a profound and intense relationship to his lyrics as Cliff! His voice is infinitely rich, strong and versatile. RocknRoll ("Move It") Rock ("Carrie"), country ("The Minute You're Gone"), ballads ("Miss You Nights"), soul "Can't Keep This feelin In", disco ("We Don't Talk Anymore".) Seriously, his catalogue would be impressive were it ten singers combined. When I heard Cliff for the first time first ("Mistletoe and Wine" (aged nine) it was the most beautiful song I ever heard; and he really has the most beautiful male singing voice that I ever encountered. If you don't know Cliff, it's YOUR LOSS; this guy is as good as, maybe better than Elvis. If you don't believe me, buy the CD and see for yourself. One more thing: this is just an introductory guide to Cliff and to really appreciate the full range of his talents, you need to buy some of his 45 years worth of albums. I recommend (for starters) "Me And My Shadows (1960), "When in Spain (1962), "I'm Nearly Famous (1976), "Green Light" (1978), "Rock and Roll Juvenile" (1979), "I'm No Hero" (1980), "Wired For sound" (1982) and "Real As I Wanna Be" (1999). Happy listening!

    5 out of 5 stars Great 40 years.......2001-03-10

The CD is just great, you can listen again and again, along the years some different styles and sounds, but always a wonderfull performer. From the first British Rock'n Roll, Move It through greats Living Doll,Carrie and many more.
