A Brilliant Update..........2007-05-24
It's no secret that "Two Penny Opera," by The Tiger Lillies, is based on Kurt Weill's "Die Dreigroschenoper" (Threepenny Opera). However, this is not simply a strict translation dressed up in modern rags. Instead, Martyn Jaucques and co. bring the tale of Mackie into the modern age by looking back. A fine example is the stunning opener "Moon Over Soho," whic is a startling rendition of the famed "Mack the Knife" piece. Instead of translating it line for line, The Tiger Lillies strip down the strucure and give it a complete makeover, so much that those already familiar with the original song may not immediately recognize it at first. This is followed by four of what may be some of the finest pieces in the Tiger Lillies canon. "Piss On Your Grave" especially, is a hilarious track that is presented form the viewpoint of Mackie, as he details the various iconic figures that he has murdered "in exactly the same way." Later in the album, the Tiger Lillies present an inspired cover of "Twenty-Five Minutes," to both comic and horrifying effect.
This album is not for the faint of heat, nor is for the easily offended. However, this IS both a brilliant restructuring of "Die Dreigroschenoper" and a beautiful, hilarious and horrifying work of high art.

This is one of my favorite records ever - if you like carny, side show ,circus and Oliver Twist like atmospheres with a great dab of black humour this is a must have!

Molly Hatchet's Only Decent Album To Date!!!!!.......2007-05-01
My brother and I tried to listen to their other stuff and then came along this awesome record! We really loved this 9-track tape:) It has a great outlaw southern sound that the other albums fall short of....
We also wondered why that more of there music didn't sound great like this album. Who knows?! I guess the diehard fans got use to those out-of-tune rock noise Molly did in the past......I really recommend this for a buy!!!
A lost classic...........2007-04-10
This was a welcomed addition to my cassette collection(yes, it was the '80's and cassettes were the thing) back in 1984. A few years later, I pawned off half of my tape collection to a friend but have since been trying to find a copy of this CD. I went through a southern rock phase because of this album and there is some solid songwriting on this! I am jonesing to listen to this CD again!
Tough man takes a break.......2005-11-27
The first time I heard this album (back in the vinyl days) I was aghast. There was no way the hard rocking band Molly Hatchet could put out an album that could only be described as 'sissy'. What a disappointment. The only two memorable songs where 'Satisfied Man' and 'Fall of the Peace Maker' and even these songs sounded like some prize fighter too beat up to continue but still talked the talk. This album broke my heart and told me in no uncertain terms southern rock had died.
Danny Joe Brown returns with a vengence!.......2005-09-10
O.K., I know that this wasn't their most commercially successful album, but it is every bit as good as their first two albums "Molly Hatchet" and "Flirtin' With Disaster". This was the first album recorded after lead singer Danny Joe Brown's return to the band, and you can tell he was full of energy and out to prove that Hatchet was back, bigger than ever! This album is a feather in his cap, as the true voice of Molly Hatchet. I really liked the previous two albums with Jimmy Farrar on vocals, but his style was vastly different from D.J.B. Right away on the first track "What Does It Matter?", in the opening riffs, Danny lets loose with his banter, and there's no mistaking who's on vocals. Dave Hlubek's master piece "Fall of the Peacemakers" fits nicely in the middle of the album, but probably the track with the most drive is "What's it Gonna Take". Awesome dual harmony guitar leads and sang with conviction. You will not be disappointed with your purchase. This has the true Hatchet sound!
Hard Driving Southern Rock.......2004-12-10
This album kinda reminds me of AC/DCs Flick of the Switch- both came out in 1983(a year when southern rock was withering on the vine) and they are both full of relentless toe tappers. This is the sound of honest hard driving redneck(that's a good thing) rock. Ain't Even Close, Under the Gun, and On the Prowl are no frills bar room slabs of southern rock chuck. Ain't nothing deep in most of these lyrics, and I like it. Just good ole swagger rock(remember that). Danny Joe sings like he means it on Sweet Dixie. Fall Of The Peacemakers was the best song this band ever wrote with some nice references to John Lennon. Three guitars, a driving beat, and the soulful howl of Danny Joe Brown. I'll drink to that.

Thirteen songs of instant mayhem.......2007-02-04
At thirteen minutes and twelves seconds, there's not a chance for the band to get bad. Brief and to the point, utterly explosive punk hard core rock and roll. Great if you have a bent sense of humor, and don't feel too aggravated at paying in the ball park of a dollar a minute for a CD. No deep meaning, no meandering solos, just straight-to-the-point lyrics of songs that average under a minute each. Oh, and an album cover that is to envy. Not really good enough to be a 4, but way too good to be just a 3.
Rock Legends.......2006-08-10
The Dwarves are indeed rock legends, a classic any dwarves fan should have
Vile, repugnant, without redeeming social value.......2005-08-08
Oh yeah, its also one of the greatest albums of the 90s, one of those CDs that must taunt Tipper Gore in her sleep. If it was as well known as 2 Live Crew, the PRMC would surely have gone on a campaign to have it banned. I remember when I bought this album when I was fourteen, a good year of my life was devoted to making sure my parents wouldn't discover it. Not so much for the lyrics, they probably wouldn't have done anything about that. Its the cover that would upset them. A classic pose (which the respectable folks at Amazon haven't displayed) of two naked chicks covered with blood and a little boy in the background holding what appears to be a bunny rabbit. This isn't a painting, but an actual photograph! As for the music itself, its so unbeleivably catchy. The lyrics are as offesive as anything GG Allin did (if not nearly as creepy), but its all done with a sense of humor (albiet a very very sick and deranged one most people won't appreciate). The vocalist Blag Jesus sings about statutory rape, how he wants to have sex (thats not the term they use) in the backseat of his car, and how he is angry at a girl who is afraid of AIDS. Yeah, its in really bad taste, but is a rocking and funny as hell. The "Surfing Bird" tribute in the middle of "Motherf^^ker" cracks me up everytime I hear it. The CD only lasts fourteen minutes with thirteen songs, and its always an adreneline rush when you listen to it. Try to sit still with this in rotation. As you can tell this isn't for everybody. If what you read interests you, you'll love this album. If what I describe in this review makes you sick to your stomach, the album will too. P.S., if you ever see these guys live, don't go to the bathroom, you'll miss their whole set!
classic album.......2005-07-19
easily one of the ten best albums ever recorded. a work of art from cover to the content.
13 minutes of THE BEST OF THE BEST.......2005-04-22
This hardcore punk underground little gem, is 13 minutes of full fast manic and devil worshipping punk mayhem! Tracks full of hate and fun from the best punk band in the last decades. Classic cover, chosen as one of the most sexy all time album covers and a reputation of one of the most killer albums in HC, are no lie. Buy this baby now, play it loud, kick someone right in the balls and laugh the night away with a bottle of rum! Cheers!

Paolo is terrific.......1999-08-16
Paolo is a wonderful example of what seems to me as acid jazz/fusion. Not all tracks are defined as jazz, but tracks 3,4,7,8,& 9 surely are. I love Miles Davis and am constantly stunned by his electrifying performance on "Kyrie" and "Get On". "Paisa" is nothing short of incredible and shows Paolo's mastery as a keyboard soloist. The CD is a must for anyone into a more electric jazz sound with a somewhat new age appeal.
New CD by Paolo bridges gaps of world/techno/jazz.......1998-12-06
The latest effort by Paolo bridges that gap between world/ambient/jazz/and soft rock, mixing eclectic grooves, soothing synth sounds, passionate guitar licks (ala Carlos Santana), along with some nice sampling techniques that will satisfy the techno-head in all of us :) Miles Davis adds his influence on several tracks, along with some strong vocal work by Jill Jones.
If you are looking to bridge that gap between musicical styles listed above, this is a great way to start.

Album Description
Lonesome Brothers (Jim Armenti, pop-rock legend Ray Mason, and ex-Scud Mountain Boy Tom Shea) conjure up the spirit of Hank Williams, Gram Parsons, and The Band in this alt-country, roots music celebration. Fifteen songs with guts, conviction, and rustic passion.
Customer Reviews:
Ray, & Jim strike again.......2005-09-11
Ray Mason, and Jim Armenti return to share vocal duties on this, maybe the Lonesome Brothers best album yet. God, these guys should be better known! As with all of their releases, they blend country, roots rock, and one hell of a sense of humour that is topped off by excellent songwriting. This group deserves better exposure. Fans of The Morrels, The Knitters, or any roots rock will do well to buy this.

Sick sea shanties of sailors, portside whores, conmen, pirates, mobsters & devils. Pump Organ, Celeste, Singing Saw, & other subjects washed up with the tide to create a picture of the docks & depths around the sea. A fragile siren drawing all who hear it to their doom.
Customer Reviews:
Sick and tender........2006-10-25
Beautiful little songs baste roughly on a book by the great French writer Genet.
Sad but immoral seaside tales about disease, prostitution and the meaningless life (and death) of sailors and fishermen. NOT for the squeamish. This CD deals with VD, rape and many other questionable things.
Expect lots of bad language and shocking lyrics ... But still the songs are melodic, tender and thought provoking. A strong contrast between the lyrics and music makes it very entertaining and strangly beautiful.
I especially like "King Neptune"; it's about a 60 year old sailor who tells tall tales about mermaids, far off seas and the many prostitutes he's slept with.
If you don't know of the Tiger Lillies. This isn't a bad place to start. A masterpiece in modern Cabaret.
If you are looking for one of their "cleaner" albums try; "A Gorey End" or "Shockheaded Peter". If you want something a little more fun try; Ad Nauseum. But saying that, I think this is one of their best.

Blood Guts and Glory.......2004-09-15
Band:Cryonic Temple
Album:Blood Guts & Glory
Record Company:LIMB Music
Writer: Ogg the Barbarian
Things are, generally, exactly what they appear to be. You heard it here. More importantly, you heard it from me, brethren, and as one beloved of Odin and all the really super cool gods, no other mortal opinion is relevant-- don't you feel lucky to have Ogg to think for you? Cryonic Temple is classic Euro-Power/prog-i.e.: Testosterone fueled battle hymns and a he-man woman haters club in-your-face mentality that belongs to no other genre of music. Nothing more. Nothing less. One look at the Frazetta-style cover painting tells you exactly what's on the inside-- it is completely, unabashedly WITHOUT PRETENSE.
OK-- according to The Dictionary of Everything You Ever Needed to Know, classic Euro-Power/prog=Helloween clone. This is not necessarily true. Although I'm agitated by a dunning lack of original thought or innovative idea in this style of music from time to time, this is not the case here. "Mercenaries of Metal", the first track, for example-- over six minutes long, and complete with a reverb-heavy chaingang chorus. Sure, sure-- regurgitated Manowar. I should be quaffing grog, pulling my hair, tossing it across the hearth and on to the next disc, but I'm not-- this band is not without its merits. Cryonic Temple, a five piece, know little about dynamics, apparently-- their pace starts, lives and ends in the breakneck zone. For all that speed, there is a stamina and solidity to the work. This has the feel of a journeyman band with great commitment to their craft, and a strong sense of traditional metal. In power metal, there is a razor thin line between the sublime and the silly-- when a band can draw comparisons to Manowar, that band flirts with the silly side of that spectrum-- but here is a band that has not crossed that line . Not yet.
General overview: nice flirtation with the classical modes in the solo work and good restraint shown in the keyboard arrangement. Admittedly the keyboards are of the ambient noise variety, but not obnoxiously so. The guitars attack with straight on conviction, and overall, the guitar parts are well honed (but right on the cusp of sounding over-produced). Lyrically-- well, I'll give you the titles of six of the ten tracks on "Blood, Guts & Glory" and let you guess for yourself: "Mercenaries of Metal"; "Swords and Diamonds"; "Thunder and Lightning"; "The Story of the Sword"; "Long Live the Warriors"; and "Triumph of Steel". Heard enough? The vocals are tight, and soar as power vox should, but there is enough of a Dickinsonian (I just invented a word!) overtone to make it listenable, which is important. Just cuz it's nothing new, doesn't mean it's nothing good. Cryonic Temple has the skills to wave d#@ks with any of the heavyweights in this genre, and if pure power/prog is your cup 'o mead, then get this disc. Ogg the Brabarian gives "Blood, Guts & Glory" three and a half bronze shields out of five.

Excellent Cale compilation.......2007-03-06
A collection of some of the nastiest songs ever recorded. At its foundation, this is 45 minutes of rhythmical countryish rock, performed by respectable musicians like Phil Collins, Geoff Muldaur, Chris Spedding and Phil Manzanera.
But projected over the top of that is the violent, perverted filth of John Cale, twisting every sweet harmony and country nuance into something truly unsettling. Brilliant!
From the infamous opening lyric, through an eight minute ode to homicide, to Cale screaming "Fear is a man's best friend!" repeatedly while playing his guitar like a deranged chimp, this is a savage business. But a hugely enjoyable business too. The lyrics are smart, endlessly quotable, and often hilarious. Highy recommended.
The album cover is my all-time favorite too.
Clarification.......2001-04-20
Just to make a point, this is not an album of new material. It is a collection of songs from the "Fear," "Slow Dazzle" and "Helen of Troy" albums (plus "Mary Lou"). It has some terrific things on it, including the title track and "Leaving It Up to You" with its reference to Sharon Tate, and an anguished version of "Heartbreak Hotel" which makes one realize the meaning of the words, if they're taken seriously. But if you like the hard-rocking Cale, the three original albums are all good ones.
Art Rock/Hard Rock.......2000-07-27
By the time Cale ended up recording for Island, the label had already established itself as a leader in avant garde rock and pop (thanks to such U.K. signings as Roxy Music, King Crimson, The Strawbs, Traffic, Nick Drake and John Martyn). Cale seemed to fit right in and the label wasted no time in setting the ex-Velvet Undergrounder with top-notch players like Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera (who turns in remarkable guitar pyrotechnics on this album) and Phil Collins (long before he turned into an Adult Contemporary mainstay). Guts is Cale's brightest Island release; its power growing stronger through the decades thanks to hard-edged performances filled with anger, thought, hooks and imagination. Yes, this is thinking-person's rock and roll. No, it won't alienate fans of either Roxy Music or the Velvets. Superb!
Captures the emotions of the late '70s.......1998-11-15
Angry, savage, and eloquent. For Cale fans only. I was listening to Guts in Europe in 1978; as my second exposure to John Cale, after Paris 1919, it departed from the classical themes down different roads to DirtyAss Rock 'n' Roll.
Exhilarating, Phenomenal rock and roll.......1998-08-24
This CD is very hard to explain. This, in my opinion, is by far some of the hardest rocking music ever recorded. From the title track "Guts" to "Pablo Picasso", John Cale elicits your emotions and emplores you to listen. I had the wonderful experience to see John perform this CD live in the late 70's as he was touring the bar circuit in Texas. It was just as unbelievable, live. Hard driving lyrics and mega sound mark this CD. I recommend this to any Rock and Roll enthusiast.
