An enjoyable album from a talented singer/songwriter.......2005-08-10

I have been a fan of both Grace Pool's album for a very long time, but in the early 90's they disappeared from the music scene as did Elly Brown (their lead singer). I was quite delighted when I happened upon this CD. Elly has a mild, lilting soprano voice that is very reminiscent of Susanna Hoffs (of the Bangles). Musically, this album is more raw and stipped down than her outings with her former band, but she still sweetly sings sugary folk/pop melodies with aplomb. Stand out tracks include "Sister Serpent Rum", "Earth Language", "Breakdown Lane" and "Dreams of Small Home". Give this record a listen, and I'd highly recommend you trying to track down Grace Pool's albums as well (they are fantastic).

I saw Brian in concert and got the CD. Man! Great album! Everything about this independent label release sounds like a major league effort. There's a hint of Marc Cohn here but he certainly has his own style. What a great discovery.
