About the Artist
Texas native Michael Hearne rocketed into the vibrant Northern New Mexico music scene from the late 1970's Austin music scene and immediately joined forces with numerous other musical luminaries including Michael Martin Murphey and Tish Hinojosa, becoming an integral part of Murphey's band. Hearne's original songs have been recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P. Nunn, (Lesson to Be Learned from Love) Johnny Rodriguez , Bill and Bonnie Hearne (New Mexico Rain).

Warm Christmas Glow.......2005-10-12

This cd truly gives you a warm Christmas glow. Michael has performed his usual magic with his music. The children have added a unique sound to this cd. Taos Christmas Eve which was co written by Michael's son Travis was deserving of the NM song of the year award. It truly describes how magical Christmas eve is in Taos & NM.

mary and mars is a great trio from santa fe , new mexico....seeing them live is sooo-oo much fun, full of finger snapping toe tapping, boogie on down kinda music, yer always guranteed a fabulous time....their first cd is full of more origional tunes and is a great one to pick up as well...live at the o.b.l. is so fun because it shows ways that they can take some well known songs and really make them their own....they definately have a unique style and if they come your way do yourself a favor and go...you will boogie all night long....great cd for driving (my kids know all the lyrics to almost every song)....i have been fortunate to have lived in new mexico for many years and everytime i saw them i was never disappointed...BUY THIS CD!!!!!

Newgrass, bluegrass, slamgrass, kick ass!.......2004-03-24

This album is a great sample of M&M's fluid, fun, funky take on bluegrass. For just three people, these folks do an incredible job of getting huge crowds on their feet and dancing in places where there just isn't room. The nice thing here is that all three musicians are standouts, but they collaborate so well to make "joyful noise." Buy this album for your friends who are wary of bluegrass and watch them convert. Great music for cookin', drivin', hangin', or jammin'.

Buy this CD NOW! THE BEST! We were in Taos, NM in Spring 2003 and happened on the Old Blinking Light- a local eatery, drinkery and fravolitery. We heard music played over the sound system that sounded excellent, professional, but did not know the artist because of all of the originals we were hearing. Finally, we asked our waitress, and she informed us we were hearing a local artist Michael Hearne, and that it was recorded here and the young lady Kelly Stebbins on the CD was a waitress discovered there at the OBL and Michael would be playing that Monday evening.(and every Monday eve.) We made reservations for the following Monday and fell in love with his music; we bought 3 copies that night! In fact, we drove way out of our way in 2004 just to hear Michael, Kelly, and Eric on the bongos! (Eric is the BEST waiter!) I apologize for telling my life story in discovering Michael Hearne, but it is a story close to my heart as a musician with a very discerning ear. It is one thing to sound good in the studio and quite another to pull it off live with very few effects and NO dub-overs - Michael has all of the components of an artist who WILL make it big - stage presence, personality, great sound (for you non-musicians, to sound FANTASTIC live by yourself and ONLY your guitar - that is a REAL gift) and being able to write originals, well, as I said, he will make it big. Either way, trust a great ear, buy this CD!!!! This is the best! THANK YOU MICHAEL!

There's tons of music out there that never gets played on the radio. You can find it in clubs in places like Austin, at music festivals, and you can dig for it on the Internet. Michael Hearne and Friends Live at the Old Blinking Light is a great example of this music - real music played by real people with life and energy.
Mike and some of his friends play regularly at the Old Blinking Light in Taos, New Mexico. If you can make it there, do; or else you can buy this CD. The main players on this album are Mike Hearne, a singer/songwriter in the classic Texas style who happens to live in New Mexico, Jimmy Stadler, invariably referred to as "the dynamic Jimmy Stadler", a keyboard and mandolin player who adds spice to the record, and Kelly Stebbins, a waitress at the OBL who sings torch-style songs.
The evening's entertainment recorded on this CD covers a lot of ground musically, from bar songs and two-steps through blues and Cajun-infused tracks. The one thread running through the two-disc set is love of music and appreciation for a good song - whether it's one of Mike's original compositions or a song written by one of his extensive network of songwriter friends (Michael Martin Murphey, Shake Russell and Chuck Pyle among many others). It's all done with the highest quality of musicianship. Just as importantly, it's done with loyalty to the music, and with the energy that comes from playing to an enthusiastic audience. This is a great CD for a road trip.

(An explanation of the "explicit lyrics" notice is in order. At some point during the evening, one of the OBL patrons told Kelly Stebbins to "move her big ass." Some of her reactions are included in the recording.)

One of the better live albums I have heard. Loved the raw sound on this CD that can only come from a live, small venue. The intimacy shines through.....
