Product Description:
Most folks know that his 60's-70's syndicated TV show was the launching pad for Dolly Parton's career, but what they may not realize is that Wagoner issued many fine hard country sides during his long career which began in the early 50's. Here's some of the best of his 1960's recordings including 'Satisfied', 'Misery Loves Company', 'Green, Green, Grass Of Home' and more. 11 total tracks. Masked Weasel. 2005.

5 out of 5 stars Legends Return!.......2004-11-25

The single of BLOODLIGHTS/TALKING BOMBS perfectly captured THE BEST qualities of THE FREEZE. Some of the most self-loathing, sad yet not hopeless lyrics yet from Clif Hanger and two different Classic guitar riffs by Bill Close that absolutely burn their way into your psyche. The lyrics to THE CRIMINAL INSIDE have got to be some of the best since classic CLASH of the first two lp's.

5 out of 5 stars More Magical Moments!.......2001-12-04

Even though this is a "spotty" release by Boston's Punk Legends, it's still WAY above average and deserved a better reception. WATCH for NEW material by THE FREEZE to be released over 2002!

5 out of 5 stars the FREEZE.......2001-07-09

WHILE MAYBE NOT THEIR MOST POPULAR RELEASE, THIS A VERY GOOD RECORD. NOT ALL BANDS HOST TALENT LIKE THE FREEZE HAD. I GIVE THIS '5'STARS

4 out of 5 stars MISERY LOVES COMPANY thrives off it's Golden Moments.......2000-03-06

MISERY LOVES COMPANY isn't the best release by THE FREEZE but it is the one that welcomed them back after a 4 year hiatus. This lapse shows up mainly in the son and sound quality of the last 4 tracks, they are tinny and not the usual "razorsharp" quality to the lyrics. On the other hand, if the band had kept writing the way they did on the first 6 songs they would have another classic. BLOODLIGHTS has got to be one of the angriest, most depressing, yet somehow still uplifting tunes I've ever heard.

    Album Description

The Lovemakers write songs that are impossible to get out of your head and you don't want them to. The band is defiantly accessible on record, onstage and in person they make no apologies for their catchy pop hooks. Forming in 2002 after core members Lisa Light (bass, vocals) and Scott Blonde (guitar, vocals) were kicked out of their previous band for making out with each other during practice, they crowned themselves The Lovemakers, inspired by a bizarrely-shot Japanese porn film titled "The Weird Lovemakers." They've cheekily described their sound as "Led Zeppelin covering Prince," but it's spot on. They cite new wave influences from New Order to Bauhaus to B-52's, but their forthcoming "Misery Loves Company" EP on upstart label Fuzz has The Lovemakers potently injecting their infectious pop with doses of deep and epic rock. This cd contains the songs that kinda "got away" from the first "best of" package. If you ever saw the band live, than alot of these songs would have been heard. Great retrospective of a great band.

5 out of 5 stars Your MSB collection is not complete without this compilation.......1999-01-12

'Misery Loves Company: More of the Best 1975-1983', released in 1997, is a testament to the world that the Michael Stanley Band is one of the greatest bands of our time. Coming 'right back' at us with a second dose of greatest hits that surpasses the first compilation, 'Right Back At Ya', Michael Stanley has hand-picked the very best of the best. Additionally, he comments personally on each of the 18 tracks(wow! count 'em!)which allows us to connect with the band. Songs like 'Baby If You Want To Dance' (my personal all-time favorite MSB tune), 'Fire in the Hole', 'When I'm Holding You Tight', and 'All I Ever Wanted' will knock your socks off while other hits like 'Spanish Nights', 'Last Night', and 'Take the Time' (damn those MTV execs anyway) will have you doing some soul searching. And that's just to name a few! If I were stranded on an island, this would be the CD I would hope to have with me - and a hell of alot of alkalines! But don't miss out on the other great works by MSB. And finally, in the words of Michael himself, - DON'T STOP THE MUSIC and CUT THE BULLS-word AND PLAY A LITTLE ROCK&ROLL!!!

5 out of 5 stars Nobody else like him..........2007-05-18

Although he had a carefully-cultivated image as a hillbilly nut, Porter Wagoner was one of the finest traditional singers of his time. This swell collection captures him at his best, tilting towards his novelty material, all of which is quite good. It fills a real gap, though, since other CD-edition best-ofs skip over rollicking gems such as "Sorrow On The Rocks" and his fab, cheerfully cornball gospel recitation, "What Would You Do If Jesus Came To Your House..." There's no one else like Porter, and this is a mighty fine introduction to his work!

In the liner postcard to this 1994 tribute, Jonboy Langford calls Johnny Cash "the polar opposite of the cozy, safe, sexless, and bland that white America usually clutches to its all-purchasing, suffocating breast." That statement, in a nutshell, explains how and why a politically charged British punk rocker chooses to immerse himself in the wholly American music of the Man in Black. And on Misery Loves Company, Langford and friends prove how remarkably well Cash's songs wear the honesty, simplicity, and directness of the punk mentality. Moods vary from ominous ("What Is Truth") and edgy ("I Got Stripes") to angry and bitter ("Busted") to wistful ("Sunday Morning Coming Down") to downright combustible ("Cocaine Blues"). Still, no matter how twisted the Tennessee Two's twang gets, it's always somewhere in all of these 14 cuts, although the reggae groove of "I Still Miss Someone" leaves it farthest behind. --Marc Greilsamer

    5 out of 5 stars Langford + Cash = cool.......2006-06-24

As a big fan of Langford's work with the Pine Valley Cosmonauts and a very long time fan of Johnny Cash, this album pleases me immensely. I've had it for years and came looking for it hear to add the album cover artwork to my iPod. I was quite surprised to the CD both selling for so much and with such a lukewarm review. (But I'd never pay that much for a CD either...)

    3 out of 5 stars great idea but . . . .......2006-05-18

Long before The Pine Valley Cosmonauts Saluted the Majesty of Bob Wills (1998), they ran through the Johnny Cash song book. The music here is somewhere between rock and folk-rock, adorned with Jon Langford's distinctively British vocals. To appreciate this disc, the listener will have to move beyond the idea that Johnny Cash's music only works when rendered as Americana. This is the Man in Black's music as one would expect it to be played in a rowdy English punk bar. Traditionalists may be turned off by such an interpretation, but the more daring may find this refreshing. Indeed, this Pine Valley Cosmonauts tribute may appeal those who've always enjoyed Johnny's songs but disliked the twang.

This out-of-print recording is almost impossible to find. I contacted Bloodshot Records and not only do they no longer have the masters (no re-issue), nobody at headquarters even owns a personal copy. Being a devotee of Johnny Cash and Jon Langford, I sought this recording for years as a holy grail CD. After finally locating a copy, I have to admit that the music is lukewarm. Some of the songs work better than others. It's a good disc but one that doesn't beckon to be played often. While "Misery Loves Company: The Dark and Lonely World of Johnny Cash" deserves to be in-print, it also isn't worth $80.00 (the asking price for the least expensive used copy at the time of review). Thus for the potential listener, this purchase is in purgatory: there isn't enough interest for it to go back in-print and it's not worth the out-of-print price. "Misery Loves Company" is worth listening to but only if you can trade/download/torrent a copy or buy it from somebody who doesn't know what it's really worth.

5 out of 5 stars Hubbard Live at Cibelo Creek.......1999-11-24

Ray Wylie Hubbard is not only one of the great song writers in Texas (and elsewhere), but he is a stellar performer. A serious musician, Hubbard is also the best story teller around. For those of you who have not seen him live, this album is a perfect introduction to his special brand of humor as well as his ability to handle soulful ballads and honky tonk rock. If you like the intelligence of folk, the downhome feel of Texas country, the excitement of honky tonk rock all packaged in some humorous (and uniquely Hubbard introductions) get this album. It is the real thing!

5 out of 5 stars The one ray wylie cd you need.......2004-01-19

Ray Wylie remains one of Texas's best kept secrets. Dust of the Chase and the title song, Loco Gringo's Lament are the best cuts on the CD. The whole album is well written and the songs are thought provoking (as much of Ray Wylies' material is.) Overall this CD made my top 13 of all time list.

5 out of 5 stars THE ORIGINAL OKLAHOMA COUNTRY OULAW.......2001-03-17

From the moment I heard those first words " I come from Oklahoma with a pistol in my boot, a pair of dice, a deck of cards, and a bible in my suit", I knew I was hooked big time on this fantastic country album. This record marked Ray Wylie Hubbard's comeback in 1994. And it's pretty obvious he had a lot of great songs saved up from those many years spent on the road. For me, Hubbard is the ultimate storyteller, and the most underappreciated and overlooked of all the country songwriters. He is the original country rebel outlaw from Soper, Oklahoma. Hubbard is probably most famous for writing the country cult classic "UP AGAINST THE WALL REDNECK MOTHER" for fellow country outlaw Jerry Jeff Walker. This song temporialy made Hubbard a name in Nashville. But he thumbed his nose at Nashville and formed the original alternative country rock band RAY HUBBARD AND THE COWBOY TWINKIES. On any night you could find these guys playing a Merle Haggard song one minute, and turn around and do a Led Zepplin song the next. Sounds like my kind of band. But not exactly Grand Ole Opry material. After all these years of struggling with obscurity, it brings us to "Loco Gringo's Lament". For me, every song on here is a hook laden classic. There are no duds here. If your not careful, you'll catch yourself humming or singing these tunes long after the music's over. Some of my favorites among the favorites on here are "AFTER THE FALL", which has a simple, yet catchy guitar rhythm to it that I'm sure some aspiring songwriters out there are kicking themselves for not thinking of first. I promise you'll press the repeat button on this one. Hubbard shows that he still has some of that rebel rock left in him with "LITTLE ANGEL COMES A WALKIN'" and "WANNA ROCK AND ROLL". A couple great rockers that I'm sure will be covered by somebody out there someday. But the real gem on here is "THE REAL TRICK". Have you ever heard a country song with a congo beat? Well, you get it here. This is one great piece of songwriting. And it just may be the best country song I've ever heard. I still can't believe to this day that this album didn't become a huge hit. The main reason why it probably didn't make it is that it was released on the obscure indie label Deja Disc when I bought it back in 1994, so it never got promoted like it should have. Heck, The album cover on it isn't even the same anymore. But the great music is still there. Many of the songs on here are about life on the road, and I can't think of a better cd to take along with me when I go on those long boring road trips than this one. Whether I'm traveling through the desert or stuck on a desert island, the one disc I know for sure I'll be taking with me is "Loco Gringo's Lament".

5 out of 5 stars Find the ... bucks and BUY THIS!!! This is what we..........2000-11-14

...used to call a "desert island disc". Ray opens his spirit and his life in this epic journey of thought through your own soul. This is going to be the best CD you will ever buy.

After you learn these songs...go see Ray...go meet Ray...he is great to see.

5 out of 5 stars Ray Wylie's Coming Back Strong.......2000-10-12

Loco Gringo's Lament is a CD I have had for a couple of years now. It is truly among the very best I own. I almost never take a long road trip with out bringing it with me. Ray Wylie Hubbard may be best known for up Against the Wall Redneck Mother, but with Loco Gringo's Lament you have great driving music and very thoughtful and profound lyrics. While all the selections are good my favorites are Dust of the Chase, After the Fall, Wanna Rock & Roll, The Real Trick and the Messenger. I don't think you will be disappointed. You may also want to grab its sequel Dangerous Spirits another excellent release from Ray Wylie Hubbard.

5 out of 5 stars Loco Gringos Review.......2000-04-30

I find it hard to believe that no one has reviewed this CD yet! C'mon people, this is RAY WYLIE HUBBARD! Well, I guess it's up to me, so, BUY THIS ALBUM! In my humble opinion Loco Gringos Lament is to Ray Wylies catalog what WHO'S NEXT is to The WHO, what ABBEY ROAD is to The BEATLES, what RED HEADED STRANGER is to WILLIE, what...oh heck, you get the picture! If you are a Ray Wylie Hubbard fan, and I assume that you must be since you're reading this, all I can tell you is all the words in the world can't convince you how good this album is as much as what one listen to it will do! This album is ESSENTIAL to any to the collection of any true true lover of country/folk/rock.
