Product Description:
The Way I Feel is Bill Andersons first new album since 2001. It features ten Bill Anderson originals, including the award winning song "Whiskey Lullaby," co-written with Jon Randall (Emmylou Harris band The Nash Ramblers). The nine other songs were co-written with various current Nashville writers, giving this new CD a very contemporary country sound.

Winnipeg, Manitoba, is a very cold place. Perhaps Remy Shand's debut, recorded in his Winnipeg bedroom, is his effort to cozify the Canadian city. It's a warm slice of the vintage soul that's been popularized by artists like D'Angelo and Maxwell, replete with shimmering musical touches--a clavinet here, a Rhodes there. Shand's falsetto often mimics, and at times evokes, soul legends, though his sometimes skinny delivery lacks both the pelvic thrust and the world-on-my-shoulders weight of the genre's finest. Songs like "Take a Message" are winsome, if wispy, in their romantic sentiments. "Rocksteady" features lovely instrumentation punctuating Shand's vocals, while the heftier "Liberate" finds him rebelling against an unnamed enemy (the Mounties?). Pleasant, but not always convincing. --Cristina Restrepo
Customer Reviews:
70's soulfulness..........2007-06-01
This guy is obviously a student of the music game. I can tell knows the history of soul music. He's got a Smooth 70's vibe going on with a voice & lyrics that hit the sweet spot. The title track reminds me of a cross between Maxwell and Jamiriqui("The way i feel")...great soothing sound with a smooth energy that really helps you to get into the lyrics. At times he croons like Prince. He's comapred to Robin Thicke a lot but i really feel that the two are worlds apart in their overall sound. I love them both( i'm a big Robin Thicke fan) but like i said Remy is different in the way of a lot more of a soulful, more mature groove to his songs. His musical arrangement at times is almost Barry White-esk...he doesn't sound like B.W. but his 70's soul sound is a hook!!! Also i feel that Remy's lyrics are a lot more direct and easily attatched to your own experiences. My fav's on this CD are as follows: #2 "Burning Bridges" ...i love the lyrics! #1("The way i feel") because it's so damn smooth and of course soulful. #8 "Rocksteady" is a GROOVE! #3 "Everlasting"... It has a lot of Smokey Robinson type crooning on it with the same type of guitar you may hear on an Isley Bros. cut. Truth is i love the whole thing. This is a perfect Cd to just chill and Kick back some Chardonnay to,turn off the lights, fire up the candles, turn off the ringer and stay in tonight...Remy's got the rest!
smooth.......2007-04-06
This CD was mellow and has a great feel too it. Every song was something you could goove to. Remy Shand was a sound that has influenced Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke. I really like to put on all three.
I give it 4 stars because he has not made a sequel. We are waiting!!!
Cool, Classic ,Vintage Soul.......2007-01-27
I first heard about Remy Shand when his video for the song, TAKE A MESSAGE was on VH1. The music is cool and soothing, along the school of Maxwell and D'Angelo of the current singers; but also old school like Curtis Mayfield. A great album to listen to, whether you're in the car alone or chilling with friends. Let's hope to hear more of his music to come!
Unfortunate that he was slept on..........2006-10-27
It was so unfortunate that Remy Shand got slept on when The Way It Is was first released. I remember seeing the video for Take A Message and automatically going to FYE and asking for the cd. Boy was I glad I purchased that. It was by far one of the best albums I had purchased in a LONG time. From the beginning to the end your speakers are filled with this soulful voice with catchy tunes that everyone can enjoy. I purchased this album when it was first released, and to this day it still plays in heavy rotation in my collection. I even got my ex-husband into this cd-one day I was listening to it and he asked who it was. I told him and he didn't have a clue, but when I said he's the guy who plays all his own instruments in his video he realized who I was talking about. He became a fan and I felt good because I turned someone else into a fan of this great artist. Remy, when are you going to release another album?!!!!!
Love This CD.......2006-06-09
I just bought this CD today because of a discussion on blue eyed soul artists at the Etrain (Elliott Yamin) web site. There were rave reviews about this CD so I decided to check it out. And boy am I glad I did! Remy is one of the most talented soul artists around today. Every single song on this CD is worth listening to. While Remy definitely has his own unique sound, this CD is like Michael Franks meets Al Green and Marvin Gay.

Customer Reviews:
The Price Club.......2005-04-28
"I am here," said Leontyne Price when interviewed as she opened the new Metropolitan Opera with Samuel Barber's underrated ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA, "and you will know that I am the best and will hear me. The color of my skin or the kink of my hair or the spread of my mouth has nothing to do with what you are listening to." Back in the 1960s Price was one of the greatest divas in all of opera, and it wasn't just her voice but her magnificent stage presence, combined with her social activism. All of the above come into play in this collection of secular songs and ditties, some of them traditional plantation chanties and others, art songs and a scattering of pop music. And some of them, like Gershwin's "Summertime," cross the ever-permeable boundaries between Broadway and classical. These recordings were made at different times in Price's career, and her voice, while always angelic, has different shadings and reaches a different range of timbre in each separate recording date, but there is no question that, as time goes by, she is able to impart a richness of life experience noticeably absent from some of her earlier work.
"Ave Maria" sounds heavenly no matter which way you slice it, and as for "I Wonder As I Wander," it brings tears to your eyes. If you have a heart that's beating you will be moved by this rendition. "Ein feste Burg" is pretty strong, but Price seems more comfortable with the traditional spirituals, though perhaps it is the slightly off-kilter sounds of the Ambrosian Singers (what a name) who back her up on many of these tracks, that detract slightly from the experience. Compare "Lead Kindly Light" for a clear sense of what constitutes authority vs. what is a wee bit overproduced. If you had this compilation, and perhaps one of Leontyne Price's Christmas albums, you could attain nirvana any time you wanted to, just flip a switch and close your eyes, let her lift you up on wings of song.
A living legend.......2005-03-10
Leontyne Price (still alive) and already passing into immortality amongst vocal artists, both classical and popular. Leontyne Price stands at the pinnacle of her classical art, but those who only know her work in La Forza del destino or the Verdi Requiem are in for a heart rending treat with this album where Leontyne Price goes home to her roots in Mississippi and gives an unabashed account of the classic spirituals she sang as a young woman. Like John Mc Cormacks rendering of Irish songs there is a personal longing and devotion expressed here that reveals a side of the artist not known in the bulk of their "classical" repetoire. A sense of going home like Citizen Kane's rosebud, or as Dorothy Gale observes at the end of the Wizard of Oz "everything I could ever have wanted was right in my own backyard "
not your daddy's old timey spiritual.......2004-06-23
Agreed this is a good cd for a beautiful voice, but this is not, repeat not, for someone who wants to hear that old-timey religious fervor that you think of when you've been to a Black Baptist hand-clapping, standing, swaying, and singing service.
Immaculate Vocals of Leontyne Price.......2003-12-31
IMMACULATE, SUPERB vocal range and style! There's no other words that can complement Miss Leontyne Price's vocal arrangements. Miss Price's voice is strong, and shrills very nicely to the instruments played on many songs listed on this double CD which is a joy to treasure; every song listed are songs I was raised to hearing and singing. Miss Price is the reason why many of these songs remain in popularity and presently used. Miss Leontyne Price has been incredible in many of her past performances. This is my fourth CD of Miss Price and I am glad to own this particular CD forever and ever. Many thanks to the executors who found this remarkable album and upgraded it to a CD format! **Angi**
Great Gospel Stuff.......2001-04-12
This is a great CD. The only problem I have with it is that on some of the selections there is a boy's choir screaming in the background, and this takes away (a bit) from her performance. That said, her best selections are those that are either unaccompanied or those where her voice is not buried. Songs that strike me are - His Name So Sweet, He's Got The Whole World, Were You There, I Wonder as I Wander, Lift Every Voice and Sing, and my all time favourite Summertime. Enough said.

Customer Reviews:
Great compilation.......2002-05-10
I don't actually own this particular compilation, however, since I own nearly every recording represented on these discs...I think I'm qualified to comment. This is a wonderful representation of the high quality of work that DRG Records does.
The previous review is way off the mark. This is definitely not a waste of time or money. This is 25 years of preserving Broadway shows, Off-Broadway shows, studio recordings (mostly from the city center concerts), etc. So what if they "aren't as good as the original", DRG is preserving many recordings and artists that other mainstream labels don't or won't. You have wonderful recordings from Brian Stokes Mitchell, Nathan Lane, Debbie Gravitte, Tyne Daly, Anthony Perkins, Joanna Gleason, Marin Mazzie, Carol Burnett, Heather Headley, Patti LuPone, Barbara Cook, etc., and many of these are from Original Cast Recordings just as they appeared on Broadway. This is an excellent sampler of the work going on at DRG. No...I'm not an employee...just an avid listener and collector of theatre recordings.
A disappointment.......2001-12-15
There's a reason you've probably never heard of most of the songs and shows on this album, not to mention most of the artists. This is a second-rate collection of second-rate numbers performed by mostly second-rate artists. In the case of the shows that were revivals, the performances on the original cast recordings were better. Don't waste your money.

Oldie, but Goodie.......2006-08-01
Well, I was not expecting to like this one. Its SO old, and very classic (Rodgers and Hart.) But one good thing about it being Rodgers and Hart, is it has lovely lyrics. Clever and witty on every song. Mark Twains book was done justice I think, but I've never read the book. I would suggest this to classic lovers, and newer Broadway fans who want to hear a`"classic" other than Oklahoma. This is a good one. The other great thing about this CD is you get not only A Connecticut Yankee, but also highlights from two other Rodgers and Hart musicals: Higher and Higher and By Jupiter. AWSOME. Favorite Song: "To Keep My Love Alive"
Once lost, now found and reissued on CD........2005-06-03
One of Decca's earliest cast albums (recorded just a few weeks after their famous OKLAHOMA! album) this very nearly became a lost treasure. Recorded on 16" glass masters in 1943, the original release was on 78 RPMS (complete witha booklet givinga detailed synopsis and all the lyrics.) The revival was not a success and when Long Playing records were introduced in the late 1940s, CONNECTICUT YANKEE was not reissued in the new format.
At one time in the 1960s Decca had the masters transferred to tape for a possible LP reissue. That reissue never happened, and in shipping the discs back to the storage facility, they were broken. The tape was taken from the company's archives and did not turn up until almost 30 years later. Though modern technology could probably have coaxed even better sound from the master discs, we must be thankful that the tape was made when it was.
In the meanwhile there were three unautherized isses of these tracks. A new York based private label called Box Office transferred the 78's to one side of an Lp in the 1970s. Later, AEI released an elaborate gatefold Lp with not only the full score (again dubbed from 78s) but also fabricated some additional tracks reprising some of the songs (in theatrical order) by editing portions from the existing tracks. Finally there was a release on CD from Box Office with horrible sound that stil sometimes turns up for sale. Avoid it. Decca actually sent a request that Box Office withdraw the bootleg Cd.
This edition has much better sound and the bonus tracks by Hildegard and Shirley Ross from BY JUPITER and HIGHER AND HIGHER make the package very worthwhile.
THOU SWELL. THE YANKEE WINS AGAIN!.......2003-02-09
"A Connecticut Yankee," by Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers, contains more hit songs than the average Broadway season nowadays. "My Heart Stood," "Still," "Thou Swell" and the redoubtable "To Keep My Love Alive" all sound fresh and vibrant in this fabulously remastered 1943 recording. Particularly wonderful is the total and complete recording of "To Keep My Love Alive," sung by the one great (female) love of the Lyricist's life, Vivienne Segal ... nearly seven minutes of the wittiest ways to do in a husband. This is one of the first "original cast" recordings ever recorded, and it sounds as crisp and clear as a recording made today. Bravo! (Submitted by staff member Stephen J. Finn)
A Lost Gem.......2002-01-17
A wonderful rerelease of glass discs made for the 1943 revival of this charming musical. While the orchestra is less than polished (there is one particular trumpet you can hear over and over that is awful and flat!)--it has a lot of zest to it, and makes one yearn to see the play - indeed, to see more of the Rodgers and Hart shows performed.
Not complete and NOT first CD version.......2001-08-19
This CD collection of tracks from the 1943 revival of the Rodgers & Hart musical is advertised as the first CD presentation of these tracks. This is incorrect. I have a CD issued in 1999 by Box Office Recordings called "A Collector's Rodgers & Hart" which contains all the "Connecticut Yankee" tracks plus 14 additional tracks of Rodgers & Hart covers (different from the covers on the Decca CD).
Worse, I have an AEI LP recording of the revival which has three additional tracks from the show. Why weren't these selections included in this recording?
On the other hand, even the 9 tracks from Connecticut Yankee are worth owning. As a previous reviewer said, just Vivienne Segal's "To Keep My Love Alive" is worth the price of admission!

El Gordo Fan.......2007-05-14
Forget the UA release; listen carefully and you will hear tape hiss, distortions, etc... The folks at Bear took better care with this release using higher quality masters. Bottom line, you get what you pay for.
Get "The United Artist Collection" instead........2007-02-11
Instead of getting this double album, get the double CD, "The United Artist Collection" by Gordon Lightfoot instead. The reason, it has the first four albums on 2 CDs ("Lightfoot!", "The Way I Feel", "Did She Mention My Name", and "Back Here On Earth").
I love gord, but..........2006-09-02
I love lightfoot, and this early music is some of his best, but check out the United Artists Collection, a two cd set with the same songs. it's 8 bucks, this one is 23. Go figure...
Classics From The Poet-Laurette Of The Great North.......2006-02-14
This CD contains Gordon Lightfoot's first two albums, 'Lightfoot', released in '66 and 'The Way I Feel' in '67. These -26 tracks- of now classic tunes began the long and illustrious career of Canada's favorite musical native son and undisputed poet-laurette of our neighbor to the Great North.
Tunes like; 'Early Morning Rain', 'For Lovin' You', 'I'm Not Sayin' and 'Canadian Railroad Trilogy' (what I like to consider the unofficial National Anthem of Canada) will echo within your heart and mind long after the music stops. Classic Lightfoot!
To begin at the beginning.......2002-06-04
Here are Gordon Lightfoot's first two UA albums, packaged together on one CD. By the time the first, Lightfoot!, was released, he had already gained a considerable amount of professional respect as a writer--artists such as Marty Robbins and Peter, Paul & Mary had taken Lightfoot compositions into the charts. Lightfoot! is the most pure folk-sounding album he ever issued, with a very stripped-down sound: rhythm guitar, vocal, lead guitar, and upright bass, with nary an overdub in sight. There are a number of songs on Lightfoot! ("Early Morning Rain," "Ribbon of Darkness," "I'm Not Sayin'," "For Loving Me," "Steel Rail Blues") that are now considered to be Lightfoot classics--it's interesting now to hear the original arrangements. Lightfoot was in his mid-20s when this album was released, and you can hear the youthful optimism in his voice.
The Way I Feel begins to more clearly define the Lightfoot sound and his future musical direction: still folk oriented, but with a larger influence of both country and pop. By this time, he had established his first regular touring band and on this album you'll hear some outstanding lead guitar work by the ever-innovative Red Shea, plus very rhythmic bass work on the part of John Stockfish. Nashville sessions musicians Kenney Buttrey (drums) and Charley McCoy also appear on The Way I Feel. (Until 1976, Lightfoot did not use a drummer as part of the touring band, and thus both Stockfish, and his successor, Rick Haynes, have a more rhythmic approach to bass playing than what you'll normally hear in an acoustic setting, laying down a very solid bottom beat.)
More Lightfoot classics appear on "The Way I Feel", such as "Song For a Winter's Night" (recently covered by Sarah Maclachan), "Softly," and the song that propelled him from popular artist to Canadian icon: "Canadian Railroad Trilogy." In addition, there is a re-make of the song "The Way I Feel," which in fact made its first appearance on Lightoot!.
Having these first two UA albums on one compact disc affords the listener the opportunity to hear Lightfoot at the threshold of a remarkable career which continues to this day. The first album served notice that this was an extremely talented songwriter making his debut album; the second, which sounds more confident, mature and self-assured, seems to be emphatically saying that he had not only arrived but he was going to stay around for a long, long time.
And so he has.
This CD includes a sizeable booklet with a good essay by Richard Flohill, lots of photographs, and complete lyrics.

Album Description
The Way I Feel is Bill Anderson's first new album since 2001. It features ten Bill Anderson originals, including the award winning song "Whiskey Lullaby," co-written with Jon Randall (Emmylou Harris' band The Nash Ramblers). The nine other songs were co-written with various current Nashville writers, giving this new CD a very contemporary country sound.
Customer Reviews:
WOW - Traditional Country Music Still Lives!.......2005-11-11
Only thing I can say is that Bill kicks ass on this one. True the voice is going on 70 years, but you can tell (as he states inside the cd cover) he is relaxed because he doesn't have to be concerned about hitting the charts. He says he still enjoys writing songs, maybe even more now..... and it shows. You can listen to the songs and tell he didn't put a batch of crap together just to put out an album. The whole album is well done, and it's true country music..... No dumb lyrics, as I find when I turn the radio dial trying to find something worth listening to. Whiskey Lullaby is a gem, and Kenzie Wetz is one talented lady.....
Fine set of new originals from country legend.......2005-08-18
Anderson's first new set of songs since 2001's "A Lot of Things Different" (also waxed for Varese) provides another fine collection of country originals from "Whispering Bill." As with his previous release, the production is mostly acoustic, and though Anderson's voice doesn't hold the notes as firmly as earlier years, the slight warble provides more of a burnish than a distraction. At times he sounds surprisingly like a cross between Steve Forbert and Rodney Crowell.
Anderson's co-writers are a varied lot, ranging from legends like Buddy Cannon, Melba Montgomery and Tom Shapiro, to contemporary artists like Jon Randall and The Derailers' Tony Villaneuva, and writers Irene Kelly and Rob Shapiro. A few of the tunes retain Anderson's more typical low-key approach, but several of his new songs are mid-tempo. The band kicks up a honky-tonk twang for "Let It Go," with its terrific opening line, "Bitter is a color I don't wear too well," and Rustie Blue adds a duet vocal on the foot- his-and-hers love-going-wrong duet "Chip Chip." Country listeners will be most familiar with "Whiskey Lullaby" from its appearance on Brad Paisley's 2003 chart-topping album "Mud on the Tires"; here Anderson sings it more weary and ragged, balanced by a duet from Kenzie Wetz.
There's a lot of life left in Anderson, both as a songwriter and a singer, and without the pressure of a major Nashville label, his releases for Varese feel natural and true to the interests of a 60-something songwriting legend. Those who enjoyed Anderson's last outing will certainly enjoy this fine batch of new songs and the upbeat spark Anderson's given them.
