Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Fun, irresistible remix album of LeAnn's best songs! .......2006-02-20

LeAnn Rimes found a rare chance to have both a successful country music career and her remixes of those songs to do well on the dance charts. I have heard some of these remixes before on various albums and it was a good idea to combine the best 14 of those remixes for this album. Warning--it moves very quickly on the first four numbers because of the high dance energy. I still love Can't Fight the Moonlight, How Do I Live, Soon, the nice duet with Ronan Keating, I Need You and But I Do Love You. I think that the 3 remixes from Graham Stack on here are his best and have made him a better producer or remixer of songs the past several years. The remixes from Thunderpuss, Aurora Borealis, Mark and Jeff Taylor of the Metro and Brian Rawling Productions group, Widelife, Dave Aude, Mr. Mig and others are just as strong, funky and danceable. Sometimes they're better than dear old dad Wilbur Rimes' conservative productions on LeAnn's studio albums. And the somewhat challenging Desmond Child and Trevor Horn efforts. They did all kinds of things with LeAnn's voice on these remixes. These songs have so many valleys, directions and shifts in its chord changes. They added an acapella song to show LeAnn's own singing too rather than just the remixes. If she would have gone to P. Diddy, it would have been a huge hit too, the way he gets people on the dance floors! This is perfect music to ride to on a long car road trip--it's meant for it! It's like Euro dance meets Nashville all in one place!

5 out of 5 stars Good remix collection.......2004-08-21

I'm a fan of LeAnn Rimes' remixes, so this is a nice collection. Even though they are all radio edits, it's still good. The best mixes are as follows. "Tic Toc" Thunderpuss Radio Edit is a great mix, not a fan of the song but the mix makes it listenable, and a club hit really. "I Need You" Dave Aude Radio Edit is another great one, turns it into a club anthem I could definately hear getting airplay at the clubs. "Suddenly" Riva Radio Edit is a great mix too. Other good ones include "Soon" Graham Stack Radio Edit, "We Can" Wildlife Radio Edit, "But I Do Love You" Almighty Radio Edit, and more. A must for any Rimes fan!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Better than the originals .......2007-01-29

I own several DJ Krush albums and love his dark, brooding, trip-hop influenced style. But with Stepping Stones, I found the perfect DJ Krush listening experience. This album is darker and more sinister than his original work. The first CD, Lyricism, is essentially a hip-hop/trip-hop album featuring a number of guest vocalists, including The Roots, Mos Def, Aesop Rock, Anticon, and others. The overall quality of CD #1 is so good that it's hard for me to name any favorite tracks, but #8 and #11 just blow me away. The second CD, Soundscapes, features haunting instrumental remixes of some of Krush's best originals. Again, the overall quality is great, so I won't name any favorite tracks. With this double-CD album, you get two distinctly different listening experiences. Call it hard/soft, active/passive, whatever. The first CD kicks you in the teeth, the second hypnotizes you.

4 out of 5 stars One CD hot, the other not as much........2007-01-23

First, I am a HUGE Krush fan, and have all of his other works (less some singles and foreign releases).

This is a double CD, which is always a plus.

- First CD is LYRICISM, as the name suggests, all the tracks are lyrics, mostly rap/hip-hop. The music is decent, but not up to my expectation of Krush. The remixes of wonderful songs from other CD's (the originals) are not nearly as good, if not lame. I was a little disappointed with this CD. Tracks range from 'meh' to OK.

- Second is SOUNDSCAPES, as the name suggests, this is ambient/chill. In my opinion, this is WAY better than the first CD. Great music (track 12 annoys me, though) overall. If you have a very, very good 2-channel system (not computer speakers, not an iPod dock, but a proper 2-channel audio system), the last track on this CD is a blast (lots of distorted, warped, and bizarre sounds that are a blast to hear).

I hold Krush to a very high, if not unfair, standard (one he has earned by making what I consider some of the best music out there) - and this album falls just a little short. Not bad, but certainly not his best.

I would only recommend this CD to a Krush fan who already has most or all of his other works (DO NOT FORGET TO GET 'Cold Krush Cuts'!!!) and wants more - it satisfies this need perfectly, but certainly should not be someones first experience to DJ Krush.

5 out of 5 stars From the master of the wheels of steel...........2007-01-16

A collection of his best works on 2 discs, remixed, touched up...plenty of outstanding hip hop and dnb beats, with jazz, scratches, cuts and breaks sprinkled throughout, reflecting the wide array of Krush's skills and progression as a musical artist. disc 1 has rappers performing on each track, underground performers that aren't pop but loaded with talent, krush using his skills to bring the best from each. disc 2 are his tracks, the stellar diversity showing whatever interests held krush at that time of creation, destroying any myths of typecasting.

the cd case is well designed, almost entirely black, including the cd's. very understated and subtle overall, sending a message of mystery and strength. removing the cd cover, the booklet unfolds to reveal lyrics for all the tracks off disc 1, a nice treat...this item is very difficult to by in store (i went to virgin megastore) so buy online if possible.

5 out of 5 stars Cold Krushin' ; DJ Krush has arived!.......2006-12-28

Underground legend DJ Krush delivers on this self-mixed compilation of some of his finest work. Divided into two perfectly cohesive cd's, this collection gives us a sampling of his stellar career. Whether you are just becomming familiar with Krush, or down since day one, this is a must purchase for any fan.

5 out of 5 stars Unreal.......2006-09-14

I'm a huge Krush fan & this is definitely his best work in years. This album is ridiculous in its atmosphere. I was a bit disappointed with his last couple of albums, but this more than makes up for it...I think it's his best since Kakusei.

If you are a fan at all, pick this up...you're in for a real treat.

4 out of 5 stars A must for an enthusiastic Moby Newbie.......2007-06-04

Having many Moby Cd's, including singles, There were only a few songs on this CD that I did not have (which made paying the extra buck for the import costing a star from this review). The new James Bond remix is pretty sweet, but much more mellow than the original mix. The track Featuring Debbie Harry "New York" is by far my favorite track, being a great high energy uncampy Euro-pop track that is great when played really loud. For Dj's out there, these are a great collection of mixable tracks. For the home entertainers, this entire CD could easily carry a portion of your evening with danceable beats and fresh sounds.

3 out of 5 stars About as Good as It Could Get.......1999-10-03

Hardcore fans of these Atlantic dance favorites won't be happy with the result of the remixing...hardcore dance fans won't be happy, either. The liner notes aren't lying when they claim the remixers "respectfully interpret" these numbers - most of the songs are still very recognizable, and most are done with a flair indicating a love for the original. The remix of Chic's "Everybody Dance" is a highlight, as are the simple mix of "You Are in My System", and a fun version of "He's the Greatest Dancer". Others have problems - "Respect" gets bogged down in repetitive sampling, and someone should tell DJ Jazzy Jeff that his former partner handled this terrain much better on "Summertime" than he does on "Good Times". If you found the original Atlantic songs hard to dance to, or if you thought what they missed was walloping bass and dubbed vocals, this is the perfect CD for you. For me, I'da prefered to hear all the originals compiled onto one CD instead.
