I loved this CD. It was exactly what I wanted. The songs are great and there are lots of songs on the CD. I was so excited after listening to it. I love every single song. You know how sometimes you only like a few but this is an exceptional CD.

My father once told me about the man named Vern Gosdin. About how he use to, back in the day drink while listening to him. I have to say, when I first heard this album I fell in love with it. I like Vern better then George Jones anyday. I think I'm gonna pop at top. lol ~OUT~

I CAN CALL HIM VERN, BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO VERN FOR OVER 30 YEARS. THIS ALBUM IS, IN MY ESTIMATION, ONE OF HIS BEST. I BELIEVE VERN 'S VOICE IS ALMOST AS GOOD AS GEORGE JONES.

Traditional country with Janie and Emmylou.......2004-02-16

Vern had a long career during which he gained a certain amount of recognition without becoming a really big star. Perhaps he is best remembered for his eighties music, notably Chiselled in stone, but he also made some excellent music for Warner/Elektra in the late seventies and that is the music which this compilation contains.

In those days, Janie Fricke and Emmylou both provided backing or duet vocals (but not together) for Vern and they can each be clearly heard on this set. Listen to Emmylou and Vern on Yesterday's gone and Hanging on, or to Janie and Vern on Till the end, Mother country music and It started all over again.

The set features several covers including Break my mind (a John D Loudermilk song that was originally a country hit for George Hamilton IV), Catch the wind (a sixties pop hit for Donovan, a British folk-rocker inspired by Bob Dylan), Never my love (a sixties pop hit for the Association - another track featuring Janie) and Shake rattle and roll (the fifties rock'n'roll classic).

If you enjoy Kenny Rogers' music from the same period (Lucille, Daytime friends, Love lifted me) before he switched to a more pop-country style, this should appeal to you. If you have some of Vern's eighties music, you should also enjoy this.
