Whether you're willfully stranded at a vacation resort or soaking up some rays on a nearby beach, the music of Brent Burns is the perfect soundtrack to the laid-back lifestyle. The obvious identification with Jimmy Buffett and his beach-bum sound is in evidence throughout this collection of absurdly comical and witty pop vignettes. The buoyant tracks instantly carry the listener to a sultry paradise as Burns sings lines such as "don't tell me how you do it up north, because I don't care." While the music tends to rely too heavily on trite keyboard sounds, few will notice as they join in on the unabashed good times. Margaritas and drink umbrellas not included. --Lucas Hilbert

Album Description

Brent combines the feeling of tropical breezes with a touch of country. The songs tell his life as a Gulf Coast trobadour (Livin' the Life", "Neon Tan"). He sings of love lost and found ("911","Compass & Anchor","Little Grass Hut") and the trials and tribulations of living in a resort community ("If It's Snowbird Season Why Can't We Shoot'Em?").

love all the songs on the album especially the snowbird season

1 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2003-12-31

Mr. Burns is trying to capitalize on Jimmy Buffett's fame, and if he had any talent at all that would be fine with me. He however is sadly lacking in talent and for me to pay $16.99 for this amateur effort was a waste of money. I guess I qualify as a Parrothead, and I was looking for a similar sound--tropical, laid-back...What I found was a guy using Jimmy Buffet's name in the title of his CD and insulting him in the lyrics. Livin' the Life is the worst song on this CD, followed by Vacation. Too Lazy to work...was a cute song, but not worth buying the CD for. I have never written a review about a movie or CD before, but I feel I must warn others--save your money!

5 out of 5 stars PARROTHEADS LOOSEN UP.......2003-02-02

After reading reviews on this this album, I decided to buy it. Being 50 years old and having every song that Jimmy Buffett ever recorded (some not so good), I wanted to see what fellow parrotheads were objecting to. SUPRISE - BRENT BURNS IS GOOD. He's laid back, humorous and makes fun of anybody he wants and this makes for a fun album. Guess who else made fun of anybody he wanted to and also made fun albums (intials are J.B.). By the way Jimmy isn't from Florida either!!!

1 out of 5 stars Livin' the Life, but not playing the music........2002-04-07

If he's trying to appeal to Parrotheads, it's hard to do it by insulting Jimmy. His songwriting is poor and just vindictive. Jimmy is successful, Brent is not. The music on this CD is proof positive. Phins up Parrotheads! Go buy Far Side of the World instead.

1 out of 5 stars Poor vocal talent and unfounded lyrics........2002-04-07

If I could give this album less than one star I would. Brent Burns has virtually no vocal talent which obviously why he only lays on the beach while Jimmy Buffett (spelled with two "T's) counts his money. It sounds as if he tape-recorded the album on a home stereo system with a Karaoke function. I also found the song "If It's Snowbird Season Why Can't We Shoot 'Em?" to be interesting since the beach he lays on is not located in Florida but in Alabama. Maybe he should stick to writing about the ten mile stretch of land he uses as a beach instead of writing about Florida beaches for which he was a tourist on as well. In short do not waste your money on this CD your money is better spent on something credible.

5 out of 5 stars Trill Southern Hip-Hop.......2005-02-15

After all the turmoil and controversy, Khujo and T-Mo are "Still Standing". This album is as good as it gets now days
with watered down rap and hip-hop. On this album the duo continues to slang dirty lyrics over well seasoned beats. A MUST BUY ALBUM!!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Goodie is back...........2005-01-29

Following just six months after their dissapointing 4th album, Goodie Mob, consisting of only two members following Gipp's departure, have delivered what is easily their tightest album since "Still Standing".

Murder Madness Music 7/10 - If you are familiar with past Goodie Mob albums, this is just their ascending opening track ala They Don't Dance No Mo' etc.

Black History 9/10 - Some of T-Mo and Khojo's most inspired lyrics delivered alongside a cinematic backing track.

Gothic Funk 9/10 - Just as good as Black History and a little darker too.

Turn Your Whip 6.5/10 - Your standared Lil' John style crunk track, brings nothing new to the table but it is otherwise a decent leading track.

Puttin' On2Nite 9/10 - Following the crunk attidude set by "Turn Your Whip", this track absolutely kills it with funky production that leaves you questioning why this isn't the lead single.

Git High 8.5/10 - Progressive percussion is complemented by a simple bass riff and a heavy synth track lead by some good verses by Witchdoctor, Preacher and the two Goodie Mob members. This is very much an old-Goodie Mob style track

Bet Dat 5/10 - Boring latino-style backing track lead by come equally dissapointing raps and the awfully repeadative "BET DAT HEY!" shouting in the backround. Skip this one.

They Comin' Man 8/10 - This is more like it, obviously, the Goodie Mob wanted to make some latino-style music and while "Bet Dat" fell off badly, this track works thanks to some good delivery on the verses and a catchy latino chourus ala "Lucifer" on Jay-Z's "The Black Album".

Superfriends 6.5/10 - A somewhat boring Goodie Mob semi-reunion cut with Gipp, Khjho and T-Mo rapping about each other's friendship.

Hillbillies 6.5/10 - Another boring track where the Goodie crew, along with Witchdocter run over some annoying southern cliches and crunk trash.

Lock and Load 6/10 - After hearing this track, you have a sense that this album had fallen off since "Bet Dat" until it is saved by.....

Probly Never 8/10 - The album is saved at last with a funky electro-style crunk track.

24/7/365 8/10 - What a better way to end the album then with another Goodie Mob semi-reunion track! Here, T-Mo imitates former member, Cee-lo's trademark crooning to lead into one of the most direct Cee-Lo disses since his departure from the group.
