Customer Reviews:
Great compilation - and that's just the first half........2005-09-14
I first got this on cassette in the summer of '94 and listened to it every day, drawn by its thematic range and compositional depth. And that was just side-one.
Elfman pioneered the sound that drives today's movie adaptations of comic-books and darker-themed children's stories. Side-One kicks things off with a rollicking, hyper-cartoonish theme from the first Pee-Wee movie - the one where Pee-Wee searches for his beloved bike. Elfman's theme contains layers of different rides - on tightropes, highways, in the middle of a NASCAR rally - which rudely yet melodically crash into each other.
The Batman entry actually contains several pieces - the opening credits, the extended sequence in the cathedral and the climax - which show Batman's darkened extreme at its "Frank Miller" best. (Dir. Tim Burton couldn't sustain the mood in the next sequel, and the franchise took a turn towards the camp of the TV series with the next 2 movies.)
The theme for "Dick Tracy" is perhaps the most romantic on this disc, a quality that surpasses the theme's comic-book origins, but ends on an ironic note that's pure Elfman.
"Beetlejuice" (opening & closing credits) gives Elfman's childish ID a chance to stretch its legs, or in this case, slam-dance.
"Nightbreed" is an enigma wrapped in a dark mystery, and that's just Elfman's score. Elfman's work on this movie is as good as the movie wasn't, having a more powerful narrative than the script - easily the best track on the entire disc, one likely to exceed the movie in its dose of chills.
"Darkman" doesn't quite rise to the occasion, though the score may be hobbled by the movie itself, which seldom surpassed one of the many "Batman" clones of the early 1990's. "Darkman" (the movie, I mean) excelled as a parody of many comicbook staples (the wronged hero, the relentless villain, the scientific breakthrough with just one flaw), but not enough to escape being largely anonymous. Within those constraints, it's still a moving if scary piece.
When is Elfman not like Elfman? When he was in the mid-late `80's and scored "Back to School" (A Rodney Dangerfield vehicle) and "Midnight Run". Horns in "School" bring it closer to Elfman's over-the-top style, while "Run" sounds like a love-theme for the run-down, out-of-the-way parts of America that seldom appear in Elfman-movies. "Run" is a fun score for a fun movie - it's nothing like Elfman's previous work but it perfectly captures the on-the-road-without-a-map craziness of the movie.
To this day, I don't know why I never ventured to Side-two, but it's irrelevant. Even half this disc is worth it
The best of Elfman!!!.......2005-09-05
I was obsessed about getting this CD right from when I heard about it. I found it at the library and was so excited about it, and it didn't let me down. In fact, it was a lot better than I expected. It's a fun and creepy (strange mix, but it really works!) collection of Danny Elfman's film and television soundtracks. The first track, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, is probably my favorite. Also, I really like Batman and Wisdom. Batman is creepy and dark, and Wisdom is just weird, in the best possible way.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes film music, or everyone who is even the tiniest bit an Elfman fan. It's amazing!
Great Collection, A LIttle Too Eclectic.......2003-08-19
You should be able to tell from the movies and TV shows listed here whether or not you'd be interested in this collection. It's a little too eclectic for my tastes (hence only 4 stars) but better than volume 2. I think thatthe miscellaneous collected ites here along with the previously unreleased stuff should make this worth buying. Especially if you're a fan of Elfman's movie soundtrack work.
What Great Music.......2003-05-11
I fell in love with the music of Danny Elfman when Beetlejuice came out. There was something different about the music that he made. When Edward Scissorhands, and then Nightmare Before Christmas - I knew this man was a musical master. Its the verbal form of surrealism.
super.......2003-04-17
What a great CD. Danny's music is so original and inventive. this CD contains his pre 90's quirky, gothic music. it's all very well written and beautifully orchestrated. batman and darkman contain some really excellent long, dark, gothic cues that really take u away from reality. in my opinion no one, apart from howard shore, is as inventive and original as danny in the world of filmmusic. he far surpasses the repetitive works of williams or horner. buy this, and volume two, and keep supporting one of the greatest film composers of all time.ohh...and buy fellowship of the ring and two towers by howard shore....amazing work!

This Is A Nice Blend of Music.......2005-08-04
This is a nice blend of music, keeping it on the heavy side for the most part. You don't have to see the movie to like the soundtrack, although I did. You have some Pantera, you have some Filter, some Megadeth and some Rollins Band, and more. Happy to have it in my collection.
'Tales From The Crypt:Demon Knight'-Original Motion Picture Soundtrack'(Atlantic).......2005-08-01
Now here's a movie soundtrack featuring some heavy-duty stalwarts such as Biohazard,Megadeth,Sepultura,Ministry,The Melvins among others.Better cuts include the Pantera classic "Cemetery Gates"(the disc's sole previously released track),Ministry's "Tonight We Murder",Rollins Band with "Fall Guy" and The Melvin's "Instant Larry".The hard&heavy rap tune "1-800-Suicide" by Gravediggaz is tolerable.Remember, this is coming from someone who usually cannot stand rap.A decent soundtrack CD to have a copy of.
great heavy soundtrack.......2004-09-07
this is one of the best heavy metal sountracks out there. this has one of the best songs ever released by pantera entitled cemetary gates(track 1). diedems from megadeath(track 4) was a great song, but the highlights where hey man, nice shot by filter(track 9) and 1-800-suicide by the gravediggaz(track 10). i was surprised to see a rap song on a primarily heavy metal soundtrack, but this one fit. if you liked the spawn soundtrack, crow soundtrack, and valentine soundtrack, then you will like this.
Great Metal Album.......2003-10-07
I saw this in a pawn shop for 3 dollars and I took a look at it. I was blown away by the great bands that are on this CD. Every song on this CD is well worth listening to and I would gladly pay 15 bucks for this album new. I mean who couldn't love an album that has Pantera, Megadeth, Rollins Band, Sepultura and Filter all in one? This is just a great offereing and if you like Rollins it features one of their best songs to date. If you love metal, this is a great sampler album for you.

i have loved this cd since i got it in highschool. its halarious.
I got mine autographed!.......2004-11-29
This Christmas CD features The Crypt Keeper(John Kassir) singing parodies of Christmas songs. The songs are done with the same type of "ghoulish" puns that were used on the TV show. If you enjoyed the Crypt Keeper's sense of humor on his TV show, you should enjoy this CD.
Someday this Xmas will be called the Holiday from Hell! :D.......2003-07-25
Well, boils and ghouls, it's Christmas in July! Light the candles and bake the Tollhouse cookies, for the Cryptkeeper (John Kassir) is coming to your doorstep! The 1994 album "Have Yourself a Scary Little Christmas" is chockfull of chestnuts, holly, mistletoe, roasted venison, blood & guts, amputated limbs, exploding missles, decaying zombies and, best of all, your delightful Host with the Most. Graciously supported by the spectacular orchestrations of the Salvation Army, CK croons, cackles and belts out 11 unique carols generously laced with wicked wits and putrid puns. What other album features St. Nick filing for bankruptcy (Juggle Bills), a salute to horror movie icons (Christmas Rap) or a New Year's eve party attended by deceased celebrities? (Should Old Cadavers Be Forgot) Or how about a Douglas Fir tree decorated with spleens and kidneys (Deck the Halls) or a mortician who embalms a family a LITTLE too early? (Moe Teitlebaum) But that's not all, folks. As a bonus, the CD's booklet contains a brilliantly colored reprint of "And All Through the House," a horridly classic tale from the 1952 "Vault of Horror" comic book (and eventually a favorite Tales from the Crypt episode). Last but not least, kiddies, this recording includes the most shocking incident of all, something only the Cryptkeeper would have the audacity to do: HE TAUNTS SANTA CLAUS!! YOU'LL LAUGH! YOU'LL SCREAM! YOU'LL BE CHILLED TO THE BONE! GUARANTEED FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! :D
Nothing to get you in the "spirit" like this one!.......2003-01-01
This is my favorite Christmas cd and I drag it out every year. Don't get me wrong, I like Bing Crosby as much as the next person, but this is just fun. I love "juggle bills" because it is a great parody, and it also lets me know that it isn't just me who feels flooded by bills around the holidays. And, "Deck the halls with parts of Charlie" just needed to be done. The whole cd has an almost cute quality about it but it is just good plain fun. I will pass this on to my own kids some day as Bing was passed to me.
Deliciously Twisted.......2000-12-20
Let me start off by saying that this album is NOT for everyone -- especially those who have no sense of humor about the holidays. If you find lyrics like "Stockings stuffed with ears and fingers (fa la la la la la la la la) Chopped from all those carolling singers (fa la la la la la la la la)" offensive, don't even bother.
If that tidbit made you laugh, this album is for you.
The Cryptkeeper delivers his pun-laced humor, mixed with not-horrible singing, incredibly hilarious lyrics, and that trademarked cackle that sends a chill right down my spine every time I hear it. I can't help but make this my first holiday CD each year. Who could resist that "Saint Nick Rap"?? (That reminds me... anyone know where I can reach the Dallas Cowgirls? My friend Jack wanted some special cheer.) Oh, my sides are aching just thinking about this horrifyingly humorous holiday hoot.
Again, not for everyone -- but if you're looking for an atypical holiday album with deliciously twisted lyrics... then look no further.

Great compilation.......2007-02-07
I though I owned all the Halloween music to be found. But this one has some new ones and old ones done differently. I highly recommend it.
Good memories spoilt.......2006-12-27
The title of the CD is "Scary" but don't be fooled. The only thing frightening is that someone might be suckered by the reputation of the conductor and some fond childhood memories into spending good money for this crud.
While there are a couple of admirable tributes to classic horror theme songs, the cheesy vocals on Addams Family, Ghostbusters, Monster Mash, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Beware of the Blob and Thriller relegate this disc to the trash bin.
Instead of this, I'd recommend Nosferatu (James Bernard), Chiller (Cincinnati Pops), Fantastic Journey (Cincinnati Pops, also - more SciFi than horror, though) and Classics From the Crypt (RCA Victor). All available here.
Superbly Bizarre.......2005-03-03
All I can say is wow- kitschy and delightful in a way. Though the "Thriller" is disturbing. But how can you deny the "Killer Tomatoes"? I mean, how can you??

Customer Reviews:
Welcome, kiddies! Would you like to dance to death?.......2003-11-01
I am an avid fan of the HBO series. Therefore I can gleefully day that the "Tales from the Crypt" album provides a suspenseful, orchestral variety of scores that never get old. Although I have watched all of the episodes written on the track list, I don't need to look inside the cover sleeve to enjoy the 13 tunes. In fact, since the music completely stands on its own, I am able to imagine a variety of fantastic settings in my mind. Danny Elfman's macabre theme song makes me envision a tour through series' cobwebbed mansion, descend the house's spiraling staircase, and seach for the very same coffin where the Crypt-Keeper rests.
"Cutting Cards," with its plucked violin and cello strings, makes me picture someone in a tense meeting with a 1920's gangster (someone like Al Capone). "Loved to Death" can best be described as a soap opera romance heightened by champagne and a dangerous affair (as indicated by the track's saxophone). "Dead Wait's" primal drums and rattles set a mysterious aura in the wild, sweltering jungles of South Africa. "The Ventriloquist's Dummy" seems to be set in an abandoned carnival, where dolls and toy soldiers come to life and turn into malevolent monsters. "The Man Who Was Death," with its vibrating rockabilly guitar and piano, is the perfect score for a Wild West saloon. "The Reluctant Vampire's" sparkling harpsicord makes me imagine 18th century France, where aristocratic bloodsuckers enjoy many nights of luxury and decadence. Finally, "Deadline's" smooth jazz reminds me of a 1940's film noir, one in which a crime is being solved by a gumshoe detective.
Last but not least, kiddies, television's Host with the Most, the Crypt Keeper (John Kassir) closes the album with "The Crypt Jam," a unique, hip-hop party track guaranteed to make EVERY DAY Halloween. Accompanied by dancing ghouls and skeletons, the Keeper cackles a rap that invites everyone to an unforgettable monster bash. What I can say in the end is that "Tales from the Crypt" is worth hearing all the way through. It will make you want to Trick or Treat all year long!
Original Music from the Cult series.......2000-08-01
That's it... The CD all Fans waited for. If you loved the series you will automatically love the soundtrack. A large variety by some of the best composers of Film Music including James Horner, Danny Elfman and David Newman gives you the creeps... excellent CD, it's worth the money!

John Kassir ROCKS!!!!!!!!.......2007-03-28
I really don't give a care for the songs. I'm only getting this CD for John Kassir's intros and ending. I'm in LOVE with Kassir. I'll probably listen to the other songs later, but I'm more interested in John. That's just how I am.
Great creepy metal collection from the crypt.......2006-07-17
Great compilation of metal classics such as the theme for bordello of blood from Anthrax. Pantera's Cemetary Gates from the demonknight movie. Judas priest, mercyful fate, black saint and more just great metal soundtrack from the crypt.
Plenty more than 2 good songs........2003-02-12
This is pretty much the only Metal compilation cd that I would advise buying. If you look at that track list and don't see at least 6 songs that you like, you may want to start thinking about a different genre of music.
Well, there's TWO good songs on it!.......2002-07-23
I suggest you weigh and measure the amount of money you put on the value of TWO good songs; since Queensryche's "Eye's of a Stranger," and Judas Priest's "Beyond the Realms ..." are, in my opinion, the ONLY TWO SONGS worthy of the amount of money spent on this CD.

C-Bo has another album..... .......2005-12-04
C-Bo has gained his fame with the album Gas Chamber and comes back with Tales From the Crypt, C-Bo is a real Indo Blowin' locc from the Garden Block area of Sacramento, CA just like Brotha Lynch Hung, Murder That He Ritt is a tight Horrorcore song by C-Bo which would be good to listen in the dark with a bowl of Buddah, and the song 187 Dance has a tight G-Funk groove.
Tales From the Crypts best are *2, 3, 4, 5, 7, *8, 10, 11 & 12.
Definitely worth buying.......2005-10-18
There are some good tracks on this album. You should definitely check it out.
Hella Sick Gangsta Rap.......2005-04-11
C-Bo comes real tight on his 1995 album "Tales From the Crypt"(re-released in 2002). He has a hard flow, and even harder, menacing beats, with frequent use of the whistly keyboard synth. His beats are generaly hard core, bass heavy G-Funk. If you love lowrider music, this one is premium!
A review of C-BO's Tales From The Crypt........2003-06-20
Tales From The Crypt is one of the better releases by the rap artist C-BO. Most of the cuts on the record are good. There are some that aren't. This cd was circulated in 1995, and re-released in 2002. I have the version from 2002. There is no difference between them, however.
My 3 favorite song from this album are 1,2, and 4. Jaccin' And Assasin' isn't even a song. It's made with sound effects and is only 8 seconds long, but it's a good one. Murder That He Ritt is a spectacular track. He raps real good on it and there's not excessive cursing on it, even though I don't mind that sort of thing. Hard Core is a great piece, the best on here, that has a satanic beat to it, hence the title.
In conclusion, this is a good album by C-BO and if you're new to him then this is the way to go. I also admire the cover art and the fact that they put the time limits on the side of the song titles on the labels. Thank you for taking the time and generosity to read my review.

Good mix of classic and modern rock........2001-10-26
"Tales from the crypt presents:Bordello of Blood" is an excellent soundtrack to a equally good movie,it has the perfect mix of old and new hard rock songs. Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak" is the best song on the whole cd. Free does an excellent job with "All right now", and Sweet's "Ballroom blitz" is good, but it's more of a pop/rock than actual Hard rock, but I still like it. Humble Pie's "30 days in the hole" is up there with "Jailbreak" and "All right now". Anthrax's "Bordello of blood" is great, The Herd's "From the underworld" is good, and Scorpions' "Still loving you" is also a good track.
"Bordello of Blood" is a simply a great soundtrack, anyone who is into rock should give this a listen, and if you like it, be sure to check out the hilarious film.
