This is probably the best collection of Richard Penniman's Specialty label songs you'd want on a CD. I would put him way up at the top as one of the great innovaters, originators, and exremely important influences in the history of rock'n'roll. So many people covered his songs over the years. From Elvis to the Beatles to even Pat Boone and Marty Robbins. This CD is a must-have for anyone who loves fun, danceable, and wild rock'n'roll. So get this CD and rock your socks off!
As a note, I also recommend seeking out reissues of his earlier music recorded roughly between 1951-1954.
A truly great pianist, songwriter, singer and arranger.

5 out of 5 stars Do you care about rock and roll?.......2007-01-04

Then pick this disc up, pronto! Cobbling together 25 of Little Richard's greatest recordings (including every track off of his amazing debut album, Here's Little Richard!), the Georgia Peach is a virtual blueprint for rock and roll: The songs are greasy, soulful, piano-pounding ravers, bursting at the seams with manic energy, and live wire mutant R&B. Little Richard is one of rock's first great showmen, a bristling bag of musical atom-bomb fury. His singing is wild and wooly, and he's got a lnack for sky-scraping falsettoes and roaring piano runs. But don't take my word for it: just listen to the insane classics that fill this disc: "Tutti Frutti" and "Good Golly Miss Molly" alone are enough to start a revolution, while "True Fine Mama" rolls and rocks with enough caveman abandon for three or four rock groups. Hey, why do you think Elvis Presley covered "Tutti Frutti" on his first album? The man knows how to rock!
If you even think you might have a chance of liking the concept of recorded sound, get this album NOW!

...Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On?

On paper it looks good, but, this recording sounds like a poor out-take. A simple case of one song too many. I really wish I had stopped after track 24; Whole Lotta Shakin... ends this wonderful collection on such a sour note. As for the sound quality, it's really good, but I'm wondering if there was some added reverb to many of the songs. I've never heard them sound like this before.

Finally, all the great songs are here, with a good running order, but why not add a few more seconds between songs, it all comes off a little too rushed. I found I was pushing the pause button a lot, just to take a breath. As I recall, the UK Beatles albums from 1963 to 1966 had a seven second break between songs. I loved it! It was like letting dust settle before being inundated with another song right away, it gave each song it's own spotlight.

Still, The Georgia Peach, is probably the best Little Richard greatest hits collection out there. The first 24 songs are worth the price!

Five years in the planning, Sweet Georgia Peach reveals Russell Malone's deep grounding in and appreciation for the long lineage of jazz guitarists. Add to this a wide range of sounds and styles, and you have an album full of both variety and cohesiveness. Favoring a pleasantly round, resonant tone (suggestive of both Kenny Burrell and Pat Metheny), Malone gently swings, rocks, struts, and caresses on a number of original tunes and arrangements. His version of Monk's "Bright Mississippi" finds him and pianist Kenny Barron engaged in a finger-twisting duet. This smooth, hour-long CD showcases Malone's guitar voice and writing style, placing him solidly in the tradition, though, much to his credit, attempting to add something unique and individual to it. --Wally Shoup

1 out of 5 stars Again, the Feel Kills it............2005-09-08

As a jazz guitarist you always listen for what you can learn from someone, what they do well and not well. Russell is an amazing talent when it comes to chord melody playing. His voicings, along with slick tricks using harmonics makes for a beautiful addition to the standard approach to playing jazz guitar chord melody. What makes this CD difficult to listen to is his playing in time or with the rhythm section. His lines are mostly un inventive and have a very awkward feel. It does not have the feel of say, Grant Green or George Benson. It sounds as if his picking is not worked out well and subtracts from the over all rhythmic feel of the music. I would love to hear a record of just solo guitar from this artist!

5 out of 5 stars Nicely Done.......2005-03-06

The CD here is probably Russell's best upbeat cd. Sweet Georgia Peach (the song) has a hard melody and nice solos. Bright Mississippi also is another great song on the cd. Ron Carter plays nicely. If you want slower songs, another great cd from Ray Brown that features Russell Malone on some songs is Ray Brown's Some Of My Best Friends Are Guitarists. On Heartstrings he goes all out and makes you wonder if he's human. Russell Malone is one of the most consistent guitarists I have ever seen. Live he played even better than on this cd. I recommend this to anyway who likes trio jazz or straight jazz in general. Below is a cd I recommend:
1. Bluebird (Benny Green (p), Russell Malone (g)) Nice soloing and nice time, shows their skill

5 out of 5 stars Glorious.......2000-07-10

Run, don't walk, to get this gem. What a glorious album. It will rank with the best ever.

Malone is awesome. And that rhythm section! Kenny Barron! Run, don't walk.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting style--very palatable.......2000-06-11

Mr. Malone's music is reminiscent of George Benson's early work, and as such there is a rich variability in his phrasings. Equally capable at playing ballads, as well as at breakneck speed, this music is a force to be reckoned with. He has the capability of becoming a premier mainstream artist for the 21 st century. Expect more great albums from this artist. It would be interesting to hear him paired with McCoy Tyner or Herbie Hancock for a session.

4 out of 5 stars Smooth n'Sassy.......1999-11-07

Move over George Benson, this guy plays slick jazz guitar. I first saw Russell two years ago when he was with Diana Kralls band, and his solos brought the house down. His laid back approach but "in your face" stlye of playing is ajoy to experience. Add this disc to your collection!

Album Description

After establishing herself as the undisputed queen of crunk, Atlanta-based Rasheeda returns with her second national release. As always, she's on point with sizzling lyrics, an irresistible flow, and that undeniable charm and swagger that put her head and shoulders above other female emcees. This record pairs Rasheeda with some new cohorts, among them Akon, Gangsta Boo, Diamond and Princess from Crime Mob, and new R&B vocalist Kalenna. "Georgia Peach" is proof positive that Rasheeda is one of hip-hop's leading ladies.

5 out of 5 stars THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING!! Rasheeda really shows she's the queen of the "Dirty South!".......2006-12-05

RASHEEDA has really made a spectacular album here! Every single track is incredible and is really upbeat and great to listen to and get your head noddin'. Each track after the other was just as fun and awesome as the next. Before I knew it the CD was over and I had to start listening to it again. An EXCELLENT album, you won't be disappointed. Way to go, Rasheeda! Love ya and hope your next album is as upbeat and awesome as "Georgia Peach" is. :)

1 out of 5 stars Georgia Puke.......2006-11-14

Since nobody wants to tell the truth about this album allow me. The beats are bland and lifeless, the lyrics are puny and disposable and Rasheeda tries to hard to be nasty. Two songs I will endorse are DONT HATE(featuring Jody Breeze)and BRING IT TO MAMMA. Filler:Georgia Peach(Id rather taste my on vomit than your Georgia Peach) You can get it(lame nonbeat produced by Nitti where(you guessed it)Rasheeda raps just like Yung Joc was rapping on Its Goin Down), Buy my drink(buy the whole club pillows so they can sleep on this song), Pack ya bags(dreadful plus the girl on the hook sounds like she's doing her worst Ashanti impression), Type Of Girl, Let It Clap(another boring club record for you to sleep to), Lifestyle(this is exactly what a song featuring all wack female rappers would sound like), Chanel Shades, Every rapper cant trap(wack subliminal diss record directed at lord knows who), Poppin Bottles(another dumb club with Pastor Troy sounding like a hick on the hook) I could go on!!! Bottom Line: This is another worst album of the year hands down. Weak production, childish lyrics that are mostly centered around sex and money and tame guest appearances. If this is what Rasheeda has to offer than she needs to give it up. There is nothing sweet about this peach. Its rotten to the core!

5 out of 5 stars OMG!! Rasheeda: The QUEEN of CRUNK, QUEEN of EVERYTHING!!.......2006-09-17

This album by Rasheeda is HOT OF THE CHAIN!! Her HOT "Dirty South" album is beans when compared to this SIZZLING album...it's just THAT GOOD.

I agree with the other reviewer who says shes no Kim..cuz they're right...she's BETTER THAN KIM!! Maybe her lyrics are on the same par as Kim's..but her delivery, flow, voice..everything in that category tops Kim in my opinion.

This is probably one of the BEST and UNDERRATED albums that came out this year. Cop this one, you won't regret it!!

Favorite Song: "Hold Whatcha Got (Mike Jones Speaks)

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad At All.......2004-12-23

Even if you're an adherent of the old Chris and Gram Burritos.

In fact, listening to this album has caused me to revise my thinking about Sneaky's refried Burrito. While I still think this FBB offshoot should be well left alone, I would be the first to acknowledge that Carlton Moody is a heck of a great singer - even if he is a tad too country and not enough rock compared to Gram, Chris or even John Beland. His version of "Streets of Baltimore" and his own "Feels Like A Heartache" prove that Pete has picked a fine singer who does respect the FBB tradition.

The real surprise here, though, is Willie Watson of "Old Crow Medicine Show"...No, there will never be another Gram Parsons, but young Willie sure gives it a grand try. While the version of "Wheels" here is pretty lame - and honestly could have been recorded with more spirit, Mr. Watson does a credible "Hickory Wind" - but the real gem of this album is Watson's rendition of George Jones' "She Once Lived Here" or "Town without Memories" - a staple of the original Gram-Chris-Sneaky-Michael Clarke Burritos. He sings it loud and achingly enough as if the spirit of Gram had taken possession of his soul. I recently obtained a copy of an FBB live recording of Gram singing this same song, and young Willie sounds more like the real deal than the late Mr. Parsons himself.

Even Gib Guilbeau is on board, singing a heartfelt "Louisiana" - which he co-wrote with John Beland.

About the only bad penny here is Tommy Spurlock - not a bad singer but too atypical for my eclectic Burrito tastes. His "GP" glorifies Gram a bit too much - and since Waycross, Georgia also gave us Larry Murray and Ozzie Davis, it certainly wasn't a town nobody ever heard of. And yes, Tommy, there was another gifted singer-songwriter in that original Burritos whether the Grampires like it or not.

Mind you, I still have issues with Pete trying to continue the Burritos after Chris disbanded DRB and Beland the last band with the FBB moniker; it does say something that Willie Watson decided not to tour with Burrito Deluxe nor sing on the "Whole Enchilada" - no doubt he chose career longevity and OCMS over being caught in the shadow of a dead man - I'll still give Carlton Moody and his whiskey meets honey vocals the benefit of the doubt this time around.

4 out of 5 stars Peachy Keen!.......2003-05-13

Country rock doesn't get any better than the Byrds' "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" and the Flying Burrito Brothers' "Gilded Palace of Sin." The common denominator, and main creative force, in both of those groundbreaking records, of course, was Gram Parsons. Even though Gram died prematurely, his legendary status was already assured, based solely on his work on those two albums. Over the years, the Burritos' legacy has been largely betrayed by mutant Burrito Brothers bands that have strayed farther and farther from the soulfulness of its progenitor. Until now, that is.

Burrito Deluxe is the first spinoff that pays reverence to Gram's original vision for the band. "Georgia Peach" (note the "G.P." initials) features three great vocalists (Carlton Moody, Tommy Spurlock, and Willie Watson) who not only cover Gram's greatest hits, but contribute some sterling originals that are compatible with FBB's original repertoire. Watson, especially, does such a great job of capturing Gram's mournful wail, you'd swear G.P. has returned from the dead.

Sneaky Pete, the only original Burrito Brother in this band, is the foundation of the group, laying down some steely, syrupy guitar runs on classics like "Christine's Tune" and "Wheels." The band is supplemented by longtime hanger-on, Gib Guilbeau and the Band's Garth Hudson, who adds some subtle but haunting keyboards to "Hickory Wind." This is an album that is well worth hearing. Let's hope Burrito Deluxe remains intact and carries on the tradition begun by the great Gram Parsons.

2 out of 5 stars Don't Bother To Eat This Peach.......2003-03-12

The Flying Burrito Brothers' "Gilded Palace of Sin" was unlike anything else ever heard when it came out - plus the cover went somewhere none other ever had. Naturally Gram Parsons was at the heart of this still-vibrant, thrilling piece of music, but his partners made it the whole, scintillating, tasty peach. Critical to the album's identity is the sound of Sneaky Pete Kleinow's steel guitar - a yowling, searing sound carrying the desperation of sin city and salvation, despair and hope. As the Burritos became stale, the best thing they offered was Sneaky Pete's screaming steel, still making noises no other steel ever made.

Now we have this album, featuring Sneaky Pete and memorializing GP. Sadly, the entire album passes without one distinctive sound from the steel. It does contain "Wheels" and "Christine's Tune" from that first fresh Burrito album, but even they sink into the tepid waters Sneaky Pete and his friends use to wash these songs of any soul, feeling, or pain.

Save your money - there's a country band in a Holiday Inn near you that plays with as much spirit as these guys. Buy the band a Shiner Bock, then buy a copy of "Gilded Palace" and give it to someone who hasn't heard it. You will do yourself a big favor.

5 out of 5 stars "NO Questions", just buy it !.......2004-07-22

Curley Williams - I'll make this simple : I just purchased both of his CDs. It says that these are all the songs that he recorded with his Peach Pickers. If you are a REAL fan of 40s and 50s Western Swing this is some of the best music ever recorded. It reminds me somewhat of Spade Cooley but Curley's vocals are the best I have ever heard ( I think he has it over both Tex Williams and Tommy Duncan). These 2 CDs will be the best start or the finest addition to anyone who knows and loves real Western Swing. Lets face it not all Country Music Fans are real Hillbillys, this music is for us who are the "Real Thing". This is a must have ! "ENJOY"

3 out of 5 stars What a surprise! Reissued Little Richard Vee Jay(s)!.......2002-08-31

It seems that once a month we get a re-packaging of Little Richard's 1964-65 recordings. The latest, but not greatest, set of retreads is the above-named CD.
The only selling point for Richard collectors in the uncommon mix on "My Wheels They Are Slippin' All The Way" [aka "My Wheel's Been Slippin'"], the Country Rock number originally left on the shelf for ten years. The horn section is audible on this album opener. Track two, "It Ain't Whatcha Do", is the original flip-side of his third single for the label, an under-produced dance floor offer, and this reduced echo version is welcome.
It's been said many times that Richard's work for this label is inconsistent, but that doesn't mean that several sides aren't absolutely essential listening for *any* R & R fan or historian. There are a few masterpieces including the uptempo "Dance What You Wanna" (co-written by Sam Cooke) and "Talkin' ' bout Soul" (written by Sam's Manager and Richard's Manager-to-be, J. W. Alexander). On the ballad side, we have the monumental "I Don't Know What You've Got, But It's Got Me", the Don Covay composition, recorded by LR in New York City, May, 1965, and including support by Jimi Hendrix (then known as Maurice James), Billy Preston, and Don himself on harmony vocal. Incredibly, the most important track on this double CD, and maybe the most important Soul ballad every released, is presented here with an unnecessary fade which excludes the expolsive final forty seconds. I say "unnecessary" because an alternate take of this song exists at exactly 4:04, the same time as this shortened version. The stereo sound is good, but the damage is done. [Full-length pressings of both originally issued and alternate versions of "I Don't Know..." at 4:44 and 4:04, can be found on "The Best of the Vee Jay Years", Vol. 1/2, on Collectibles].
Another turn-off for the initiated are the versions of songs found in true stereo elsewhere, ironically from Charly, who figured in this collection. "Hound Dog", "Money Honey", "Lawdy, Miss Clawdy", "Going Home Tomorrow", and "Why Don't You Love Me" are in stereo on TKO/Charly's "Little Richard & Jimi Hendrix" CD from 1993.
