Classic Country 1960-1964.......2001-10-12

Only some of the greatest country songs of all time. THE cement on which many country artists have built careers along with their original material. If this CD had put on Dave Dudley,Marty Robbins and Faron Young I would have to say it could be one of the greatest country CDs of alltime. The CD time is a little short and that is the only fault I can find. I've been wearing this CD out since I've gotten it.

Haunting Country in a Diverse Collection.......2001-09-18

Of the Time-Life series CLASSIC COUNTRY, this disc offers one of the most haunting selections. There are a few novelty songs (George Jones' "The Race Is On," Roger Miller's "Dang Me," Lefty Frizzell's "Saginaw, Michigan," Johnny Horton's "North to Alaska," and Claude King's "Wolverton Mountain"), but the rest offer some of the most searing love songs of the era. Hank Locklin's "Please Help Me, I'm Falling," Bill Anderson's "Still," Patsy Cline's "Crazy," Brenda Lee's "I'm Sorry," Jim Reeves' "He'll Have to Go," Ned Miller's "From a Jack to a King," and Leroy Van Dyke's "Just Walk on By," all signature performances, give this collection serious weight. The only detraction I find in the collection is its placing such serious torch songs with the novelty mix. Even Johnny Cash seems to be laughing in "Understand Your Man." The remastering produces a clean, rich sound, and I find this collection valuable for making other mix tapes. Just be aware that, as a chronological representation, it offers no thematic consistency.
