5 out of 5 stars 2 Legends created a masterpiece!!!.......2005-07-04

Whether it got the notoriety it deserved or not, I don't know. I think this is an undiscovered gem of a record. There are no more capable players than Buddy Spicher and Vassar Clements. On this record here they do a bunch of Bob Wills type Western swing. but it's pretty durn awesome. The arrangements are pretty much perfect.

The following review is from the Fiddle List. I myself, a frustrated Okie fiddler residing in Sao Paulo, Brazil, have not yet heard this particular album, but Fiddle List contributor Bo Bradham very well expresses everything I could say about fiddlers Buddy Spicher and Vassar Clements, each of whom appears many, many times in my own collections of CDs, tapes and LPs of the past few decades, whether as solo artists or studio musicians. And this CD goes to the top of my Christmas shopping list. These two guys could not do badly by a tune if armed with cigar boxes and bailing wire!

Subject: Runaway Fiddle - Buddy Spicher and Vassar Clements

I just got this CD Runaway Fiddle - Buddy Spicher and Vassar Clements (OMS Records 25170) and , holy cow, is it good. It's a collection of what you might call "obscure standards." From the not-as-obscure like "Twinkle Little Star," "A Good Woman's
Love," and "Just Because" to songs I'd never heard of like "Sweet Kind of Love" and "I Didn't Realize," they're all good. There's plenty of Buddy & Vassar twin fiddling, accompanied by Buddy's band. The arrangements are very swinging and sophisticated, but everybody gets to solo a lot, too. Vassar sings on many of the numbers. Tell you the truth, I didn't know what to expect, but it's good singing. He has a very pleasant baritone voice with excellent pitch & timing. But the fiddling, that's what will knock your socks off.
