Andre Rieu brings a warmth and pop-like aire to his music.Here he plays popular music with a classical orchestra and adds his special ingredients to it ie:humor (musical jokes for the serious listener),fun,light-heartedness.It's a band of very talented musicians having alot of fun as is evident in the playing and especially if you've seen them in concert.I can "hear" the smiles on their not serious faces by their style of playing...less staccato and with more feeling.Andre and company swing and dance through every track climaxing on Ravel's Bolero from the movie "10".

Andre Rieu presents wonderful songs in a very inspirational way. They are to be enjoyed as "dinner music" or just for times when the TV is off and you need some "quiet time". It is a great grouping of melodies.

Sometimes you just want enjoyable music as a backdrop to the job at hand. I turn to Andre to get me through these events. Probably not a glowing endorsement, but if you know of Mr. Rieu's feelings about music, he would just smile and nod his head. This is music to just enjoy for the sake of music - and that is a good thing.

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

A great album from the seventies.......2004-09-14

Willie has recorded so many great albums that it is easy to forget how good some of them are. This one is mellow except for two songs. One of these is a revival of the old Lefty Frizzell classic, If you've got the money I've got the time. The other is Night life, the final segment of a medley of songs (the others being Funny how time slips away and Crazy) that Willie wrote in the early sixties and which helped establish his name as a songwriter.

The set opens with That lucky old sun, a song that provided Frankie Laine with an American number one hit in 1949. Amazing grace has been covered by countless singers but Willie's version is just what you expect - excellent. A penny for your thoughts (an original song) is very sad. The healing hands of time, a ballad about recovering from sadness, is a classic. Thanks again, I'd have to be crazy and the title track are all excellent.

Perhaps this is not Willie's best album but it has a little of everything - pop oldies, country oldies, re-recordings of his own oldies and original songs. It definitely belongs in the collection of any Willie Nelson fan.

I purchased the 33 LP back in the 1970s. I can say that this album has some of the most poignant and beautiful renditions of The Healing Hands Of Time,That Lucky Old Sun,A Penny For Your Thoughts, and The Sound In Your Mind.The others were good too.I cannot say enough about this album.

Even though another review here says it well, I just feel a need to add one myself because this album is too good to only have 2 reviews.

This was the first disc I ever heard of Willie Nelson back about 25 years ago, and it has to be one of his best. This is a bit more lively than Red Headed Stranger, an excellent and understated album made the year before this one, but the same instrumentation with a few more drums - a very few more. This is very mellow except for the Lefty Frizzell track "If You've Got The Money" and the "Night Life" portion of the final track. But this is an uplifting album. Willie does a fine job with all the songs, making them all sound like his own (4 songs are cover songs, but they're well chosen).

One of the highlights on here is the Medley (Funny How Time Slips Away/Crazy/NightLife) where he does 3 of his self-penned standards at once. Willie still plays this medley on a pretty regular basis in concert and the end has some nice guitar work.

Whenever I look for this CD, I can't find it, which is a crying shame. It's a WONDERFUL CD.

Many of Willie's other CDs are "overproduced". They sound too silky smooth.

This sounds more like Willie out on the back porch. I don't mean that in a bad way. It's very well done, very clear and beautiful. But it sounds like Willie and his guitar, not Willie, his guitar, a synthesizer, and a mixing board.

A MUST have for fans of ANY type music!

Willie's rendition of Amazing Grace is the best that I have ever heard. This track alone is enough to make anyone want to buy this cd.
