Why would u rate a sampler cd more than 3 stars? .......2004-08-14

I bought this CD mainly for the two Murcof tracks. Buy 'Martes' by the same artist (Fernando Corona) if you want to add a really classy album to your electronica collection.

This 18 track sampler is quite a little gem really, as there's lots of quirky electronica and a bit of indie chillout stuff (not really my style, but OK for 'padding'). The two Icarus tracks are in a similar vein to the Murcof style, if a little more edgy. Both artists combine glitchy electronica with more 'classical' analogue sounds. Both are excellent and engaging.

Other hidden jewels are the bizarre little Asa-Chang and Junray track 'Parlor' and the stunning 'Ritournelle' by Colleen - a minimalist chillout foray into the warmth of swelling sound. Rob Ellis' 'Four pictures with Debussy' and A Small Good Thing's 'Owl in a Box' are also worth continued listening.

Not bad for 5 and a 1/2 bucks, although it can be found for less than 5 elsewhere.

A gem from a bygone era!.......2007-03-15

As far as I can research the orchestra as formed in 1978 by Mr. Anthony Godwin, bass clarinettist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. He had inherited a complete library of theatre music dating from 1880 to 1930 and it's from this that their repetoire is mainly drawn. They try and re-create the sound and atmostphere of those early days by using instruments of that era. For instance on the song "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" the soprano Linda Murray is accompanied by David Norton on the musical saw.

A most excellent CD recreating the 20' and 30's Golden Age. Highly recommended!

Praise for "Special Delivery".......1998-07-23

This is a deluxe album with everything a jazz lover could desire. With ear-teasing arrangements and limb-shaking solos, "Special Delivery" is one that surely cannot be overlooked. Maynard Ferguson, Hilton Ruiz and other masters of the trade are at their very best here. Both "On Green Dolphin Street" and "Autumn in Rome" are gems. Two thumbs up! Five Stars! Ten trumpets!

Larry Sparks is one of the undersung heroes of American music. His early recordings showed him to be among the most gifted carriers of the deep-bluegrass Stanley tradition, but over the years he has fashioned his own distinctive but rooted style. His taste in songs is impeccable. Special Delivery owes a debt to the immortal music the Carter Family created, though (except for the beautiful, melancholic "Richmond County," which could pass for a Carter ballad) this is hardly an imitation or a recreation. Like the Carters, however, Sparks strips a song to its emotional core and addresses, simply yet profoundly, the feelings and experiences of a place -- the Southern mountains -- that turns out to be everywhere human beings live and die. To paraphrase the old spiritual, this is the music of the true vine.

Having seen Larry Sparks over the years with The Stanley Brothers until today I can say that he is one of the best singers of a Bluegass song. Kind of lonesome, Kind of blue. Feelings run deep in his songs and the listener is the one who is totally moved by the experience. All of his work is an art in the true traditional sound of Bluegrass Music. Enjoy.

"Reissue the reissue?.......2005-12-15

This 70s, ballad laden sweet soul reissue cd of the original album, has experienced the fate of original pressing albums, and many cds, it is now out of print also. Koch International reissued it and several other soul and funk lps onto cd several years ago, and it seems as if it was a one shot deal. This and the other cds are out of print, "Act One" original Spring label being another. Terry Huff's clean, "tenored" voice is lead on this first, and only lp with he and the group together. A high quality, excellent lp. The group did two subsequent lps without Terry. Many sweet soul collectors are familiar with "Oh, Let Me Know It" from the 2nd lp, and the soaring ballad "Your Song Is My Love Song" is the chased sleeper from the lp. The other two lps have yet to see cd reissue daylight. This is another cd/lp that's a must in any sweet soul/soul music collection of depth. Current cd prices now reflect supply/demand.

The Search is Over.......2003-04-21

Ive been looking and searching for this recording since 1983. I have written to the mainstream records also. I even searched here at CDNOW but it was no where to be found. I went across a old memo from 1984 and I thought I would give it another try. And now it is advailable. That is just GREAT
