[Suzy Bogguss] has finally come fully forward as producer and songwriter with husband Doug Crider. Nobody Love... sees Bogguss and Crider take the reins completely, and the outcome is surprising and more intimate than any of her previous albums.
People
As much as her success comes from a sensuous singing style, Bogguss also owes it to her idiosyncratic choice of material ... proof that Bogguss can see more in a song than its surface. She also chooses illustrious backup performances, including Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, and Trisha Yearwood....

Customer Reviews:
5 star singer maybe, but not 5 star songs on here.......2005-04-22
HIGHLIGHTS:
She didn't have any chart hits off this from what I understand, but "From Where I Stand" is probably the closest in sound to anything on country radio these days. A newly jilted woman realizes that she's getting her just deserts as her ex who left someone for her does the same again. It's a passable lyric from Kim Richey but she's done better. The low-key "Take me Back" makes use of Garth Brooks for a harmony vocal and it's a charmer. The title cut is an improbable tale of a botched robbery that works nonetheless because of a good reading by Bogguss. "I Surrender" is a tune she co-wrote with Crider and it's a good one.
LOWS:
"When I Run" is one of the tunes I think was sabotaged by its handling. The lyric about emotional intimacy ("I know tryin' to hide is crazy/Walking out won't save me/My demons only chase me when I run") is a great one from Skip Ewing. But the song is way too overproduced and would have been better off with a more "folk" arrangement: just a little acoustic guitar, maybe some steel flavouring here and there, and a shaker. Lose the drums and piano and slow the song down. The other problem I have is Kathy Mattea, who is IDEAL for that type of understated material, is mixed so low she might as well not be here. Talk about wasted resources..."Family Tree" is a trite number about familial ties. "Just Enough Rope" is a by-the-numbers Nashville throwaway.
BOTTOM LINE:
There's not enough distinction on here to make me pull this off the shelf much. You'll definitely not want to purchase this one unheard.
