5 out of 5 stars Brokop Breakout.......2007-06-07

Lisa's voice is great, with its own distinctive quality and an accent perfect for country. Excellent album. The songs:

Take That - Snazzy guitar, good drum beat, nice word play on "take that" as if spiting someone and then telling him to take girlfriend's letter

One of Those Nights - good gental love song to her guy

You Already Drove Me There - about love dying

Give Me a Ring Sometime - song about contemplation of marriage, has a good beat and various guitar riffs.

Little Girls Dream - good tune

Never Did Say Goodbye - one of the few weaker tunes

Who Needs You - lively and spirited, begins as a retort to a guy, then about a fight, then about making up

Not Here in My Arms - slower tune, but powerfully sung, guy not to run to singer for comfort

Let Me Live Another Day - the other weaker song

Never Gonna Be Your Fool Again - good, steady beat. Uses clever lyrics to Tell a guy off who cheated.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD.......2006-04-21

When I was a child, I remember listening to the song "Give me a ring sometime" on CMT. I found this album & I couldn't believe it. It was used, so I thought what the heck. I went ahead & bought. I played this CD the day I got it n the mail. It is a wonderful CD. I can't believe I've waited so long 2 buy it. I love every song on this CD. I can't get enough of the CD. I suggest u get this CD, whether it b used or new. It is awesome.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely great!.......2002-08-09

This is a terrific collection: there's not a bad song on it. Lisa blows Shania, Faith, and the Dixie Chicks away! I don't understand why she's not more popular; she has a great voice and she picks excellent songs.

4 out of 5 stars NOT AS GOOD AS HER SECOND ALBUM BY CAPITAL RECORDS.......2002-05-31

I RECENTLY ACQUIRED THIS ALBUM. I WAS SOMEWHAT DISAPPOINTED. THE PROBLEM IS THAT HER SECOND ALBUM BY CAPITOL RECORDS OUTSHINES THIS ONE. THESE SONGS ARE SLOWER AND MORE SENSUAL OVERALL. THE CAPITOL RECORDS LISA BROKOP ALBUM HAD MORE FIRE AND PASSION TO THE SONGS. I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE NEW TO LISA BROKOP, TO PURCHASE THE ALBUM BY CAPITOL RECORDS. FOR ALL YOU DIEHARD LISA BROKOP FANS GO AHEAD AND BUY THIS ONE ALSO. JUST BE FOREWARNED THE TWO ALBUMS ARE AS DIFFERENT AS NIGHT AND DAY. NOW IF LISA WOULD PUT FIFTEEN MORE ALBUMS ON THE MARKET WITH THE SAME STYLE AND QUALITY AS HER SECOND ALBUM, I WOULD GET MYSELF ONE OF EVERYONE OF THEM.

5 out of 5 stars Nikki from Philly loves Lisa.......1999-06-19

Anything that Lisa does, she does with finesse and style. She has the voice of an angel that will set your soul afire. Do your music collection a favor, and get this CD.

4 out of 5 stars Glad she's still creating.......2006-05-11

I have been a Lisa Brokop fan for many years, having bought two of her CD's back in the 90's when she was being played on CMT.

I had heard nothing from or about her for a long time, and I was afraid she had dropped out of the industry. Then I googled her and found out she is still going strong in Canada. As a result I invested in this CD, and I have not been disappointed. She has a bit of a hard edge to her voice that I really enjoy. While every song on the CD is good, I particularly enjoy the foot-tapping "Wildflower", the melancholy ballad/duet "Let Me Love Again" and the moving love song, "Just a Girl."

5 out of 5 stars GOOD JOB LISA!!!!!!!.......2005-08-02

THIS MAYBE A HARD FIND IN THE U.S. BUT IF YOU ARE ABLE TO FIND IT, IT IS WELL WORTH THE TIME. I LISTENED TO THIS CD IN ORDER UP UNTIL I GOT TO "BAD DAY" THEN I HAD TO HIT THE REPEAT BUTTON A MILLION TIMES. "WILDFLOWER" WILL MAKE YOU SMILE NO MATTER WHAT MOOD YOU ARE IN. THE RECORD JUST FLOWS AND IN ALL FAIRNESS HER BEST YET. I AM PROUD TO BE A BROKOP FAN AND I CONTINUE TO BE AMAZED AT LISA'S TALENT. THANKS LISA FOR A JOB WELL DONE..YOU DESERVE ALL THE LOVE AND LUCK IN THE WORLD..GOOD JOB!!!

4 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air for US country fans.......2005-05-17

I was so excited to see that Lisa released some new music. She doesn't disappoint on her latest effort. I've embraced this lovely lady from up north for 11 years now-hopefully U.S. audiences will get another chance with her new Curb CD. The songs that stand out for me right now are "What I'd Miss," "Faith, Hope And Love," "One Bad Day," "Paper, Rock, Scissors" and the fun "Lime Green Pacer." I must agree with another reviewer that if you want the best of Lisa, also pick up "When You Get To Be You." But let's support Lisa and her new music and show her that she does have a few loyal fans and listeners in the States as well-let's hope the numbers grow!

4 out of 5 stars Lisa Brokop is back!!!.......2005-01-20

Lisa Brokop is one of those artists that if she had some backing from her label she would be HUGE here in the U.S. like she already is in Canada. Her new Cd is very good. She had a hand in writting 11 of the 13 songs. She is a great story telling writter. Her music style is smooth. Her best songs on the CD are "Hey, Do you Know Me?", "Let Me Love Again" (with Steve Holy), "Just a Girl" & "Faith, Hope and Love." If you are new to Lisa and enjoy this CD, I suggest buying her best effort "When You Get to Be You." One of the best Country C.D.'s ever!!!

This album is so full of Lisa's unique work. She comes across as a genuine person, both on the album and in person. She does not put on airs, and she appreciates her fans. I can hardly wait for the new one due out early 2003.

5 out of 5 stars Brokop the Charts.......2007-06-07

This album rules. It's an excellent country album that can please non-county fans. For starters, Lisa's voice is great. It is unique, distinctive, with an accent very appropriate to singing country. Here are the songs:

Language of Love - nice melody, intros Lisa's voice well.

Before He Kissed Me - energetic, the singer was initially skeptical about a guy but then he kissed her and won her.

She Can't Save Him - slower, has powerful lyrics about woman married to hopeless alcoholic

I Know a Heartache When I See One - The guy looks and talks good, but the woman knows he's just a disappointment waiting to happen.

Now That We're Not a Family - about breakup

West of Crazy - very good, bluesey, sticks in the head, singer is mentally distracted after guy gone

I Know Too Much - good song, strongly sung

At End of Day - one of the few weaker ones, a love tune

That Summer - good tune about a boy and girl romancing one summer

From the Heart - slow, kinda boring, the other weaker number

Overall excellent addition to your CD collection's country section.

3 out of 5 stars An Alright Album.......2006-04-21

This CD is alright. That's all I can say about it. I've had this CD 4 a long time now. It wasn't until I can across her "Every Little Girl's Dream" CD, that I got this 1 out & relistened 2 it. This CD needs 2 b n a different song order. The songs r okay. I think Capitol Records could of gave her better songs. If u buy this CD, buy it used. Don't waste the money 2 buy it new. It's not worth it.

2 out of 5 stars Into the boring box............2003-09-05

A label and manager decide to just shuffle through a bunch of super safe songs and concentrate on Lisa's very talented voice, hoping her quality will outdo their song selections.
Her self titled album is way too typical, smiley and no scratches on the paint. Not meaning we're looking for roughness or rawness, but there's no motivation to innovate, even at a polished finish.

'Language Of Love' is not unpleasent, but it's so....so-so. Same for the mediocre ballad 'Now That We're Not A Family'. Too bad, since the writing/lyrics are above par on this one. The engineering and vocal work doesn't do anything special, and Brokop's pronounciation is way too sharp and not relaxed.

A take on blues and rock with 'I Know Too Much' is a poorly executed one, slammin' into the "trying-too-hard-to-be-cool-commercialism" wall. Forget this one, saying the same for 'At The End Of The Day'.

On a better note, one of my all time favourite songs in contemporary country-rock is 'West Of Crazy' . Lisa saves herself from over effort, and relaxes while she sings. The music may not be a milestone, but they blend a variety of blues-slide guitar and piano really well. The beat really will get you. Why THIS great song is on here, is beyond me.

'Then He Kissed Me' is also good. A fun tune for summer love.
'That Summer' tries to be like these two, and almost makes it. It's not bad.

SO, going to buy a Lisa Brokop album? If this one is in a used shop, and you are a die hard fan of her, okay. If not, pass onto 'Every Little Girl's Dream' or her latest one...'Undeniable', and another one, 'When You Get To Be You'...very good one.

Too bad..this one has ONE great, ONE good, and ONE above average song to give. Sigh.

5 out of 5 stars 5 stars ???.....this woman deserves her own galaxy!!!.......2003-01-17

You might think I'm a close friend or relative of this woman by
what I'm about to say....but no, I'm just an ordinary guy who knows a great song when I hear one...and this is it!!

I have to be honest here...I've only heard one single track
from this album: "West of Crazy". I must also be honest when I say, I will buy this record on the strength of the that one track alone. I first heard this song on a video she had on CMT. The song is about her response when an old ex-love asks how she's doing since their breakup. She honestly explains by compass direction that she is just south of hopeless, due north of pain, Oh so close to normal ...but she can't get there from here.

I may not be getting the words exactly right...but trust me,
this is one intriquing and fantastic song. Not only has she great voice, the band that accompanies her are the best!
This song is one of those songs you (or at least I) can listen to
over and over and never get enough of!! I have listened to this
song so many times I'm surprised my ears are'nt bleeding by now!
It is highly addictive due to here voice, the play on words and
the great instrumental backup.

I can only say if the rest of this album is even half as good
as this single....it is a great buy!!! I don't think you'll
be disappointed at all. A great singer who deserves way more
credit than she's getting!

Thanks for reading.

5 out of 5 stars Let Lisa Sing, Please !.......1999-05-03

Lisa is a very talented young country singer. Her voice penetrates the heart and soul. Her newest album has yet to be released in the U.S., it was to be in August 98. It will be time for her new album , by the time this one ever gets on the shelves. There are thousands, if not millions of people waiting to purchase it. But where is it ? You people at Sony/Columbia better awake or your going to lose a good thing ! Because Lisa can and will do better than those labels. And no doubt she will eventually. Thanks Lisa, we still love your singing and songwritting. Love to hear from you. On a new and outgoing label.

4 out of 5 stars Good song from an underrated artist.......1998-09-11

This is only the first single off the long-awaited first release with the Columbia record label. Lisa had several great singles with prior label Capitol records, but due to what I feel was bad marketing, she is still not very well known in the U.S. "How Do I Let Go" is a moving song which showcases Lisa's wonderfully different voice. The album..."When You Get to Be You" has already been released in Canada and another single has been released as well. Those of us in the states are still waiting for the album to be released here. The single also contains "Ain't Enough Roses" which is a bluesy anthem about a woman who is tired of taking back her man after all of his shenanigans. I look forward to hearing more releases from the album when Columbia finally gets on the ball and releases it in the states. Lisa Brokop is a tremendously talented young lady with great music...all she needs is some support from a record label and some marketing in the U.S.! She's definitely an up-and-comer who should be an already-here....I hope Columbia records knows that.
