Though the smoky alto of this Muscle Shoals native is rich with promise, the debut album by 17-year-old Alecia Elliott suffers from a split personality. Much of the selection is diva-esque balladry, with the Titanic-sized emoting of "I'm Waiting for You" and "That's the Only Way" making Elliott sound old beyond her years. Some of the rest is kid's stuff, from the cloying social conscience of "I Don't Understand" to the perky funk of the title hit to the Shania-in-training "You Wanna What?" (one of two songs on the album that Elliott helped write). Yet, on the album-opening "Some People Fall, Some People Fly"--cowritten and previously recorded by Matraca Berg-- Elliott shows how she can soar with a song that suits her. --Don McLeese

Elliot's Alright.......2007-06-26
Some People Fall, Some People Fly
Don't Understand - singer muses on pain and evil in world and how come it happens, what's the point?
I'm Diggin' It - deep bass groove, makes the listener groove
You Wanna What - snappy tune with attitude, is a retort to a guy who wants to go too far too fast.
A fun listen in general. No song is dull.
Nice enough.......2006-06-06
1. "Some People Fall, Some People Fly" - This is a nice introduction to the new artist(at the time), Alecia Elliot. The song fits her voice and the it has a good message. One of the best songs on the album. 9/10
2. "I Don't Understand" - This song doesn't do much for me, and I don't expect a lot of other people to "dig" this. I guess I just see Alecia trying to act older by singing about mature subjects when she's more appealing when she's young and sings fun music, but not bubblegum pop. 5/10
3. "I'm Waiting For You" - Now Alecia really does sound wise and heartbroken-experienced (or longing for love) beyond her years. Her emotion and voice is very convincing on this track. I don't get the critics when they compare this song to "Titanic" or Celine Dion...I think this is just a wonderful ballad that a young woman shines on. 10/10
4. "Ain't No Ordinary Love" - Yes! This is a nice mature teenage sounding song and it fits Alecia's voice nicely! It's a feel good song and you can picture her going over to a choir and preaching/singing to them and the choir clapping and singing along haha, that's great. 8/10
5. "Every Heart" - This is great vocal for Alecia. She sorta sounds like Bonnie Rait and the beginning. This isn't the best song on the album, but when you get sorta tired of the rest of the songs after listening to them over and over, this song is very refreshing and likeable. 8/10
6. "I'm Diggin' It" - This was the song that made me want to get the album, and now that I re-listen to the album, it isn't even the best song on the album! Which is a good thing! It's a fun song for a mature teenager to be singing. 9/10
7. "That's The Only Way" - A really nice ballad and it fits her voice well. Her voice really sounds convincing as if she's actually talking to her "guy" when she says "I would tell you I don't know." The song is actually a good vocal for her! 8/10
8. "Say You Will" - This is my FAVORITE song of the album! Her voice soars and melts your heart like butter during the chorus! When she sings, "You don't have to worry, this emptiness is something only you can fill" can just make you gush! haha 10/10
9. "You Wanna What?" - Haha, yeah I can get when people refer this song to Shania Twain, but I think it's a fun song that she should be allowed to sing at her age. The way she says, "You wanna what?!" is soo hilarious lol! 9/10
10. "Stay Awhile" - Not one of my favorites, but it's sort of like "Every Heart," so it can be refreshing at times. 7/10
11. "Some Say I'm Running" - This song is very nice. A nice ending to an album too. I just recently found out that this song was previously recorded by Martina McBride I think? I forgot who, but I think I prefer Alecia's version just because she can really sing a story. 9/10
good cd...some nice tracks.......2004-08-15
some people fall
im waiting for you
thats the only way
i enjoyed this cd....i do agree her voice could mature a bit more but the style is sweet
Album full of enjoyable melodies.......2004-03-06
This is certainly not a stellar album in terms of musicality or quality. The songs are simple, nothing too deep nor fascinating. So don't expect to hear a Trisha Yearwood caliber of songs. Instead, expect a nice, simple, enjoyable album to listen to.
Love every minute of it!.......2002-09-07
