In 1949, 26-year old Hank Williams struck a deal with the makers of Hadacol to sponsor his first syndicated radio series. Without it and these two-CD transcriptions of music and between-song prattle, we might never have heard what he was like in his molassified, hayseed ("if the good Lord's willin' and the creek don't rise") glory. Williams was a master of simplicity, both in his writing and in his relaxed performance, where his otherworldly voice often snapped and splintered like a dry branch. But aside from letting Miss Audrey, the Nashville Yoko Ono, get up on stage, he was also his own best producer, allowing members of his Drifting Cowboys band to stretch out in small solos and put their stamp on an entire era. "Play it like you mean it, boys," he always said. Then, as now, authenticity sells. --Alanna Nash

Great practice.......2007-05-04
This cd was my second try and I feel I got it right this time. The practice is challenging to me as a beginner which I like, I want to be able to practice and work on improving. I like that there are poses in this cd that I cannot already do. I feel like I've gotten a great workout after using this cd, one that comes close to actually going to class.
It will take some time of looking at the poses and coordinating the practice to know what she is telling me to do, but after a few times more of listening and looking I should have a great portable practice that I can do anywhere, anytime.
I am bringing this to Belize with me next month for the month so I can still do yoga even though I won't be able to make it to class. Thank you Shiva Rae!

Classic Shiva.......2006-03-26
As with any at-home yoga video, it's essential that you are familiar with naming of postures, otherwise you can really injure yourself. With that said, I recommend this for intermediate level and up. If you're a Shiva fan, you will enjoy this great portable yoga work-out.
More conscientious instruction required.......2006-03-20
Those who may wish to compensate that fact by looking at the poses pictured in the poster included with the CD will find that several transitional stages of a pose or flow sequence are simply not pictured. So if you are new to vinyasa yoga, you will probably find yourself feeling inadequately guided. In addition to the audio description and the photo collage sometimes wanting, it is apparent that Ms Rea does not take care to ensure that both sides of the body are worked for an equal length of time. There is a clear emphasis on the right side of the body, which leaves the afterimpression that the body has been given rather lopsided attention during the workout.
Given all these limitations, my conclusion is that there are other, more effective home yoga practices on the market now. This practice is alright, but only alright, for people who are not new to yoga and preferably who have already had an introduction into vinyasa yoga somewhere else.

The rise and fall of Quiet Riot in a single album.......2006-09-20
THE DISC: (1983) Originally 10 songs clocking in at approximately 41 minutes, this remastered version gives you 2 bonus tracks and almost 52 minutes worth. The bonus tracks: "Danger Zone" (unreleased studio cut), and a live version of "Slick Black Cadillac". Included with the disc is a 10-page booklet containing song titles/credits/times, original artwork and additional black & white photos, a brief 3-page intro, and thank you's. Recorded at The Pasha Music House in Hollywood, CA. Originally released on Pasha's label, this digitally remastered version is on Sony/Portrait/Epic.
COMMENTS: Disco was officially out a few years prior. New Wave was popular. Hard rock was coming back in. To many, American metal was still a question mark in the early 80's. The British/European invasion of heavy metal was in full force (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and the Scorpions to name a few big acts). In 1983 though, bigger albums than Def Leppard's "Pyromania", Motley Crue's "Shout At The Devil", or Iron Maiden's "Piece Of Mind"... was Quiet Riot's "Metal Health". 6+ million units sold and growing. As quickly as "Metal Health" rose (the first metal record to hit #1 on the Billboard album charts), the band fell from grace. DuBrow's antics were fairly well documented (difficult to get along with)... with other bands as well as his own. "Metal Health" was a solid album, and it's still a classic... but, it hasn't stood the test of time as well as any of the other albums mentioned above. For me, Quiet Riot was the definition of "pop" hair metal. "Metal Health" created the standard formula that all successful pop/hair metal bands seemed to follow... 1. Some aggressive hard rocking songs (""Breathless", "Run For Cover", "Love's A Bitch"); a couple of hits ("Metal Health", "Cum On Feel The Noise"), and a power ballad ("Thunderbird"). Quiet Riot's cover version of Slade's "Cum On Feel The Noise" hit #20 on the Billboard charts (#5 on the pop charts), as the title track hit #31. "Slick Black Cadillac" had minor success on the radio as well. Cavazo's "Battle Axe" is a short guitar solo - in the same vein as Eddie Van Halen's "Eruption". A brief history of the players is documented in the disc booklet - Quiet Riot being formed by guitar-god Randy Rhoads and singer DuBrow in the mid 1970's without much success; Rhoads and bassist Sarzo leaving QR to play with now solo Ozzy; Rhoads killed in a plane crash; Sarzo returns with Banali joining on drums and Cavazo on lead guitar. Some truly great songs here - my favorites are the title track, "Don't Want To Let You Go", and "Breathless". The ballad "Thunderbird" (though an ode to Rhoads) is musically weak. The bonus tracks - "Danger Zone" fits right in with the rest of the album (good stuff), but the live "Slick Black Cadillac" is absolutely horrible (sounds like an out-of-breath high school band doing a cover tune). The potential was there to continue (and more albums being released), but Quiet Riot never again achieved the success it had in '83. "Metal Health" is a classic in the "pop" arena of metal (4.5 stars).

Album Description
"New Health Rock" is a dancy, catchy track that'll have you feeling better the minute those beats kick in. The b-side, "Modern Romance", is an a cappella version of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs' hit, while "The Wrong Way" is a stellar track off of "Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes". Look for them on tour with The Faint this fall.Customer Reviews:
Healthy rock.......2005-02-10
The title track is a gritty, dancey song that gives a heady twist to typically catchy rock. Wedged in the middle is the well-named "Wrong Way" -- it sounds like it could've been a good song, but that the band never quite figured out what to do in it. Finishing things up is a murky, dark cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' "Modern Romance," complete with zombie vocals and electronic twiddles.
It's always a good sign when a young band experiments with their sound -- it ensures that the fans won't become bored, and the sound won't get stagnant. So it's good that TV on the Radio is stretching their wings into funkier, dancey indierock rather than resting on their laurels.
Not all experiments work. "Wrong Way" tried hard to be a weird experimental song, but it's too loose and meandering. However, the title track and ghostly Yeah Yeah Yeahs covers are excellent samples of TV on the Radio's rock style -- heavy, thick music paired with low growly vocals, almost like chants.
"New Health Rock" isn't a total success, but the first and last songs are definitely worth a listen. Here's hoping TV on the Radio goes off in those directions.
Excellent But Diiferent Follow Up.......2004-11-03
TVOTR can do no wrong in any way ..........2004-10-14
The leading track "New Health Rock" captures a live feeling lacking on previous efforts. An exciting direction for their music to take them in, and I suspect it's an offshoot of their touring ... something a bit more vital in their performance ... captures a feeling of somethng happening, than a recording of something that happened. This first track has cycled in my player for the last hour.
"Modern Romance" provides the direct contrast to the two previous tracks with melodic chanting around a cooling bonfire once you've got the stomping out of your system. The intoxicated buzz is wearing off and we're left in a cathartic trance. A way to walk it off after an 8 minute sprint.
There's no wearing this stuff out. Hard to say "more of the same" for a group constantly trying on new clothes, but it's consistant with all previous work.
This EP is also available from iTunes ... so you can purchase the two new tracks and skip "the wrong way" if you already own their LP.
Here are the details........2004-10-13

It's been decades since Jimi Hendrix advised the world that they'd "never hear surf music again." But the Mermen (who take their name from a Hendrix song) not only prove the venerable guitar god wrong, but make a compelling musical argument here that if Hendrix were alive today he might well be sitting in with them on these moody, musically expansive tracks. Just as Jimi was reinventing himself at the time of his death, the Mermen tweak surf-instrumental clichés beyond recognition--that is, when they're not trashing them altogether. Guitarist Jim Thomas's influences range from (of course) Hendrix to Dick Dale, Django Reinhardt, Ravi Shankar, Neil Young, Clarence White, and his own hometown heroes, the Dead Kennedys. Listen closely and you'll hear them all (and more) in a progressive collection that offers a surprise at nearly every turn, whether it's the soaring steel guitar flourishes of "Unto the Resplendent," the sitar colorings of "White Trash Raga," or the spacey Floyd-isms of the 13-minute-plus noise-symphony, "Burn." Like his heroes, Thomas never lets flash block the path of illumination, delivering his rich palette of tones and influences with an ocean-bred sense of grace and destiny. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Greatest Album EVER by the Greatest Band EVER.......2006-10-28
Gloriousy rich psychedelia.......2006-03-10
The instrumentation shows how far the Mermen have evolved from their surf roots. An acoustic guitar periodically sounds a fat cowboy keynote. Jim Thomas' 6-string electric slices and cries with a sad, Neil Young-style fuzz tone. 12-string electric and pedal steel guitars weave in and out of the mix, and an Indian sarod anchors "White Trash Raga."
For Landlocked Surfer Dudes or Ladylike Sensitive Dancers seeking accompaniment for a Ludicrous Spring Dance, this drippingly psychedelic disc might be just the prescription.
Bitchen and extremely cool.......2001-12-16
"...Health and Happiness..." is near the top of my list. It's like Dick Dale meets the Bunnymen with a dollop of Vibratron and a couple shots of head swirling psycho-reverb. First listening is cool and it just gets better.
Short But Sweet Praise.......2001-08-29
