Album Description
Two CD set combines their 1963 album Sing Great Country Hits, which was just what the title said: all covers of fairly recent country smashes, none of them Everly Brothers originals, and 1965's Gone Gone Gone. On Sing Great Country Hits the duo's harmonizing was superb, the backing tasteful, and the material intelligently selected, including classics by some of the top country songwriters and performers of the '50s & '60s. Includes 'Oh, Lonesome Me', 'I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry', 'I Walk The Line', 'I Can't Stop Loving You', 'Release Me', 'Silver Threads and Golden Needles', 'Send Me The Pillow You Dream On' and 'Born to Lose'. Gone Gone Gone delivered much of what Everly Brothers fans had been thirsting for since 1961: an album of bona fide rock'n'roll, the detours into hardcore country songs and adult pop tunes banished for the time being. Moreover it also marked, at long last, a new crop of Everlys songs composed by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant, the husband-wife team who'd been responsible for penning many of their best hit singles and album tracks in the late '50s & early '60s. Long time Everly fan.......2007-01-19
Since I first heard it inthe mid sixties, I've had Knopfler / Chet Atkins ' Neck and Neck and find their are several songs shared between the two, great version all.
Naturally, Murphy's law has followed me and having spent years trying to track down this album, a local store I'd ordered it through months ago has come up with it same week as you guys have.......never rains but it pours.. its just a wonderful album..... thanks

This One's Self-Explanatory. Recorded in Nashville on June 20th and 21st, 1963, the Brothers Everly (Don and Phil) Forever Captured Favorites Such as the Hank Williams Favorite 'i'm So Lonesome, I Could Cry', 'i Walk the Line' (Johnny Cash), 'Born to Lose' and Much More.Customer Reviews:
I can't ask for more!.......2000-02-15
Like their other album, Songs My Daddy Taught Me, this compilation contains some of the duo's lesser known numbers which can't be found in their other releases. Lesser known these songs may be but they sound just as great.
Here the brothers go pure country. Songs by great country stalwarts like Hank Williams (I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry), Don Gibson (Just One Time, Oh Lonesome Me, Legend In My Time) and Johnny Cash (I Walk The Line) are here, performed and given justice by the incomparable duo. A couple of Don and Phil's work (It's All Over, which was a hit for Cliff Richard, and I Wonder If I Care As Much) are also here, able to stand up alongside the other aforementioned country classics.
Don and Phil Everly define what good harmony means and they prove it once again in this album. But damn it, I'm sick and tired telling you what this album is all about. Just buy it!
