Wonderful!.......2006-04-14

No wonder they are called the Dead Ringer Band; they are 'dead ringers' for what used to be called American music but their kind of music was squashed by Chet Atkins with his homogenization of country. This group is superb.

I was told by a friend in Australia that kasey is HUGE and he turned me on to the Dead Ringer Band. The trick is to find a station/video channel that will play their kind of music. They're not hip hop or crappy country music. They are superb!

The wait for this CD is definately worth it. Kasey Chambers voice is a shining star and this is every bit a family affair. From the opening cover of Born to Run, an Emmylou Harris song, which they more than just pay respect to, you know the band is dead on. From the haunting 'Sometimes She Forgets' to the cover of Gram Parsons' stunning 'Return of the Grievous Angel', you'll be hooked. And their cover of the George Jones standard 'He Still Thinks I Care' (She Still Thinks I Care) will make you forget for a minute that this was originally a George Jones song because they do it with such ease that it really seems like it's their own.

I truly wish this CD was more affordable and that it would get the airplay it deserves. The Chambers family has been making music as part of their family life and the genuineness of these performances simply speak most eloquently for themselves - just listen.I especially loved the version of John Prine's "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" as done by this band, as well as the Gram Parsons song "Return of the Grievous Angel". This disc is a jewel!

What an excellent recording of a great concept. This show, first performed in Greensboro, NC and later in NY is some of the best writing that composer Nate Weida has done. His vision of what musicals should and can be is brilliant and original. The blend of heavy rock and pop influences to the musical form is a great match and well accomplished in the New Hopeville Comics. The voice in this cast are outstanding as is the band. Weida has really made an excellent recording of an excellent production. Own it.
