At his former label, Mark Chesnutt could usually be counted on for two things--solid honky-tonk with discernable meat on its bones and an edgy tune that flirted with rock & roll. Now, at his new Columbia recording home, the Beaumont, Texas, native reprises his winning formula. The rocking "Dont Know Why I Do It" proves a droll meditation on the absurdity of relationships and the need to sabotage even the best of them, and "Sacred as a Sunday" lets the singer explore a Waylon-like beat with a lyric that appreciates a girl who offers love as "wild as a Saturday night" but also befitting the title. And while "Population Minus Zero" plays on rube sentimentality, "I Drew Me" nods its Stetson to family values, and "My Dreams" takes the easy road to romantic fantasy, Chesnutt balances these predictable forays with decent dance tunes and intelligent ballads. Call
Mark Chesnutt playing it safe, but also brand it something for everybody--a serviceable album from a still-bankable voice.

Customer Reviews:
An excellent CD.......2007-04-16
This is a fine compilation of Mark's hits from 1990-1996. His biggest hits are here, although a few are left off. What is here is some of the best music played on mainstream country radio during the early 1990s. What sets Mark's music apart from that of his contemporaries is his excellent voice and his willingness to keep the music a bit more "country" and a bit less pop than most of his peers.
I can't give this CD 5 stars, though, because it is missing too many of Mark's hits. Chesnutt had 20 top ten hits throughout his career. This CD has only 12 tracks. So -- what is here is excellent, but this CD is missing a good bit.
Should Have Been Called "Some Greatest Hits".......2006-06-07
This is a lousy "Greatest Hits" compilation. It fails to include the #1 I Just Wanted You Know, #3 Your Love Is A Miracle, among other top 5-10 hits meaning you'll still have to go through and buy the rest of the albums to truely have "the greatest hits". All together, Id say its missing about 6 tracks needed to be a true "Greatest Hits". It does include a couple of new songs and one is pretty good which is the only reason I can give this album two stars instead of one.
Great CD.......2005-08-23
What can I say, it is the greatest hits. It lives up to it's name.
I could listen to this CD for hours.......2005-08-03
I have been looking for this CD for about a month or two. I finally found it and I love it in fact I downloaded it to my MP3 player and taking it everywhere I go. Love Mark Chestnut he is a true "country boy" and he hasn't sold out to the "in" crowd, dont get me wrong I love the "new" country ,but Old country is where it is. LOVE IT!!
Just Pure Greatness.......2003-12-26
Mark Chestnut is one of the most underrated Country Musicians. This CD is Pure Country Music at it's greatest. A voice that will be heaard thru Country Music History as one of the finest. My Highest praises.

Amazon.com essential recording
Contemporary honky tonker Mark Chesnutt's 1990 debut, Too Cold at Home, came with an endorsement from George Jones himself, not to mention a title-track hit that left you thinking that maybe, just maybe, ol' George wasn't exaggerating. Longnecks takes the "maybe" out of the question once and for all. One of the finest country albums of the 1990s, it's filled with rip-roarin' boot-scooters ("Bubba Shot the Jukebox"), Western swingers ("Old Flames Have New Names"), and sad ballads ("I'll Think of Something") that successfully update Jones's east-Texas tradition. And when Chesnutt covers Charlie Rich's "Who Will the Next Fool Be," he adds a bluesy wail that'll have your jaw hitting the floor. --David Cantwell

Longnecks and Short Stories.......2007-02-14
"I'll Think of Something" makes this CD worth every penny. There are other good slow songs on here, too, but about half are upbeat or honky tonk.
Successful blend of traditional and '90s country music.......2006-09-05
After his understated but excellent debut, for his second album Mark Chesnutt branches out a bit. The song selection, arrangements, production, etc. are all bolder than that of Mark's debut, and it all works beautifully. To call this album "branching out" or "bold," however, one would have to understand the pure traditionalism of the Two Cold At Home album. There is a subtle yet major difference between this album and Mark's debut.
For example, take "I'll Think of Something," originally recorded by Hank Williams, Jr. and one of the best songs on the album. Certainly this is a traditional county ballad, but check out the guitar solo that ends the song. This sound was and is common in modern country music, but is actually a rock tone and style of playing, and this style is nowhere to be found on his debut.
Don't get me wrong, most of these changes work very well and Longnecks... is still traditional music compared to other country albums released in the early 1990's. The only "innovation" that doesn't hold up today is the `80s-hair-metal snare drum sound used on "Bubba Shot the Jukebox" and "Postpone the Pain." Probably intended to help these songs fit in on early `90s country radio, unfortunately today this type of snare sounds dated.
Chesnutt gets a chance to shine vocally with Charlie Rich's country-blues "Who Will The Next Fool Be." This may be his finest recorded vocal performance. And again, check out the lead guitar sound.
"Uptown Downtown (Misery's All The Same)" with its Bakersfield bounce and Jim Lauderdales's fine harmony vocal, sounds like a lost Buck Owens track. It could have been a big hit had Randy Travis not had a similarly-themed single, with a title that appears twice in the chorus of this song (better class of losers)!
"Postpone the Pain" is a Canjun stomper featuring Wayne Toups on vocals and squeeze box.
The ballad "It's Not Over," with Vince Gill and Allison Krauss on harmony vocals, was later included on Mark's album Thank God for Believers and was released as single from that album. I believe this is the same version.
Several tunes here are in the same vein as the traditional honky-tonk songs on Chesnutt's debut. The album opener, Bobby Braddock's "Old Country" serves as a perfect bridge between the two albums. "I'm Not Getting Any Better at Goodbyes" is a country ballad written by Steve Earle. My favorite song on this album, "Old Flames Have New Names" is a wonderful Western swing tune with awesome interplay between the musicians.
Two novelty songs, "Bubba Shot the Jukebox" and "Talking to Hank," round out the album. "Bubba..." is written by Dennis Linde, and is pure fun. With it's previously mentioned drum-sound and pseudo-disco strings, this song was custom-made for country radio. "Talking to Hank" is a duet with George Jones, who is both one of Chesnutt's heroes and one of Chesnutt's fans. The appearance of "The Possum" helps to mask the fact that it is actually one of the weakest tunes on the albums (but still quite enjoyable).
This album is a strong compromise between the faithful traditionalism of Chesnutt's first album and the type of music that was then-desired by country radio. Mark Chesnutt's vocals, Mark Wright's production, and the song selection are all superb. While not quite as good as his debut album, Too Cold at Home, Longnecks & Short Stories is a fine country album that fans of both traditional country music and `90s country music would enjoy.
Should have made him a superstar!!!.......2004-05-05
This album had it all, 10 songs that could have all been singles; excellent honky-tonk sound; and awesome cover art. If this were released in 1955, it would have knocked Webb Pierce off his rocker!!!!!
Timeless music. I don't know what else to say. This is one of those cd's that you will be able to sing along with every song!! And who would have ever thought that Mark Chesnutt could cover early period Charlie Rich (Who Will The Next Fool Be) and actually make the song his?
I paid full price for this cd when it was realeased, now you can get it for budget price. You have no excuse not to have this.
MY FAVORITE CHESNUTT.......2003-09-04
Longnecks and Short Stories is Mark Chesnutt's very best. Classic country western sounds by one of the greatest voices in the business.
One of my favorites.......2000-06-28
Mark Chestnutt has always been a true Texan country crooner. Having collected all of his albums, this one stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Aside from the radio hits (Old Country, Bubba Shot the Jukebox ) songs like Talking to Hank and Old Flames Have New Names shows his vocal range. All around, the album maintains the listener's interest. If you like Mark, this is a "must have".

great album.......2006-07-30
This is one of the best albums I own, and I would recommend it to anyone. While several of his big hits are not on this album, plenty are, such as "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" and "Your Love is a Miracle," the latter of which is quite possibly my favorite Mark Chesnutt song. I think this album is a must-own for any country music fan. I think it is impressive.
A Millinneum Master!.......2002-06-30
Okay, so maybe Mark Chesnutt isn't as deserving of the title as, say, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, George Jones, or Waylon Jennings...but he's close! His music is pure country, plain and simple. And that's the way I like it!
This album contains all of his best singles, the ones we've come to know and love. "Too Cold At Home," "She Dreams," "Thank God For Believers," and the re-make of the Aerosmith hit "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing" all add a softer, gentler side to the CD. "Brother Jukebox," "I'll Think of Something," "Your Love Is a Miracle," and "I Just Wanted You To Know" have a smooth, mediocre feel to them. Then come the honky-tonk rockers: "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" (okay, so it's a smooth, mediocre honky-tonk rocker); "It Sure Is Monday"; "Gonna Get a Life"; and "It's a Little Too Late" (penned by Chesnutt).
All-in-all, this album provides a variety of tunes, while keeping it all "Chesnutt Country". His voice is able to convey emotions, and dig straight to our hearts or feet, depending on the feel of the song. This is for you country fans; the ones that want a good, down-home feeling album to sit back and listen to.
Buy This CD!!.......2002-05-26
You can't go wrong with Mark Chesnutt! I have yet to take it out of my CD player. His best songs are on here, including my favorites "Bubba Shot The Jukebox" and "It Sure Is Monday". The only complaint I have is the absence of "Going Through The Big D", which should not be much of a miss since radio is seeing a resurge of the song for some reason. Anyway, buy this CD, I'm glad I did!

Album Description
Mark Chesnutt is one of Country Music's true musical treasures. Critics have hailed him as a classic Country singer of the first order and some of Country music's most elite entertainers from George Jones to George Strait echo this sentiment. Country Music critics and fans alike need look no further when it comes to Country Music basics. If you ask Mark Chesnutt he'll tell you, ''It's the music that has kept me around this long''. In a world that sometimes confuses style with substance, Mark Chesnutt possesses both. Remaining true to himself as a traditional Country artist, while still keeping up with the ever-changing Country landscape, Mark has a knack for picking great songs and delivering them with real heart-felt emotion. Mark has set the bar for his generation. not just for his being a consistent hit maker, but because of his love of genuine Country music. Mark Chesnutt's personal integrity as well as his principal to record a genuine Country song has made him a fixture on radio and in the Honky Tonks. With Heard It In A Love Song, Chesnutt extends his pure-Country tradition to include interpretations of a few classics that he hand picked for the project. The album could have easily been named Mark's .Chestnuts. as the album is a clear shout-out to the musical giants and songs that helped shape his own career. Like the title track (a version of the Marshall Tucker Band's 1977 classic) the set also includes a version of Waylon Jennings's 1975 landmark recording, .Dreaming My Dreams With You., .I Just Ain't Been Able. from Hank Williams Jar's groundbreaking Family Tradition album and a stone ground Country version of George Jones's 1972 classic .A Day In The Life Of A Fool.. The balance of repertoire includes three songs from 2004.s SAVING THE HONKY TONK, including a new acoustic version of the haunting .A Hard Secret To Keep.. Heard It In A Love Song offers something for everybody. a solid body of great songs from a most-bankable voice. Produced by Jimmy Ritchie & Mark Chesnutt.
Customer Reviews:
Who let the Hound dog out?.......2007-07-03
I love Mark Chesnutt... the tone of his voice is great - but this album is all baleful old boo-hoo songs. Not worth buying if you like fun songs such as "Bubba shot the jukebox" or "Going through the big D."
Blech.
Wonderful.......2007-01-04
The Most underrated man in cuontry.
A wonderful vocalist with great music played and sung well.
You can't beat this if you want hard core sound Texas country.
I love Mark Chesnutt, but..........2006-12-19
No one sings a honky tonk song better than Mark Chesnutt, but this CD doesn't make the cut. It would have been hard for him to top "Savin' the Honky Tonks," and this album doesn't come close. First of all, why are there only ten songs? And of the ten, why are a few previously released material? There's no excuse for a CD like this--only 10 songs and some of them old material. Thank God Mark Chesnutt is singing good old-fashioned honky tonk again, because he's the best in the business, but I still find this CD disappointing. I also can't agree with reviewer T.Yap "thy5468"'s pomposity. Who is he or she trying to impress?
Another Solid Effort .......2006-11-14
At last, another album from one of the most self-assured honky-tonkers going, his first since SAVIN' THE HONKY TONK in 2004. This isn't quite as good an album as that one, but immortal albums only come about once in a great while.
This album is basically a bunch of old songs (some hits, some not) that Mark wraps his vocal cords around. The title tune, "Heard It In A Love Song", is a lame Marshall Tucker tune to which Chesnutt to gives a superior rendering. I consider it the weakest song on the album but Chesnutt makes it quite enjoyable
There is a nice mix of uptempo ("That Good That Bad") and slow ballads which are Chestnutt's specialty. I really liked his takes on the old Haggard-penned Charley Pride hit "A Shoulder To Cry On", the Hag's own "Goodbye Comes Hard For Me". and Hank Sr''s "Lost Highway.
Proving himself to be a George Jones fan of the first order (they come from the same town), Chesnutt tackles the George Jones obscurity "A Day In The Life of A Fool" , a very minor hit, almost never covered, from the early 70s. Mark isn't a George Jones (no one is), but his version is quite good.
This is just short of being a five star effort - I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if allowed fractional ratings
UNAPPRECIATED EXCELLENCE.......2006-11-11
When I heard that Mark Chesnutt was finally back in studio working on an album I anxiously awaited its release and anticipated another excellent collection from the Boy from Beaumont. When the day finally came for release I was shocked to discover that virtually no retailer had stocked the album. When I asked about it I got blank looks from people. One even foolishly noted that Mark Chesnutt was a minor country performer. Weeks went by and no one, not Wal-Mart, not Target, not Best Buy--no one in my area--offered the album.
When I finally got my copy I wasn't disappointed. There was the familiar, smooth country voice and style that has made Chesnutt anything but a minor force in the world of country music. HEARD IT IN A LOVE SONG is nothing short of masterful and a must have and must hear for any country music aficionado. Good luck finding a copy, though. Better just start with Amazon.

It's no surprise, considering the crossover expectations that drive contemporary Nashville, that Mark Chesnutt might strike a couple of pop poses on his sixth album. What's more like a shock, coming from an East Texas twanger like Chesnutt, is that those pop moves would be so superior to the straight country that completes the disc. You know the drill: a couple of Cajun-spiced boot scooters, a Western swing number, some contemporary honky-tonk, all of which sound plenty hot but most of which are too lyrically clever and emotionally slight to make any lasting impression. The sweet pop chorus and soul-country groove of "This Heartache Never Sleeps," however, is another matter altogether. And the title cut--a swelling cover of the grateful and sincere Diane Warren-penned Aerosmith smash--provides Chesnutt the sort of vocal workout he hasn't allowed himself since he tackled "Who Will the Next Fool Be" on what remains his finest effort, 1992's Longnecks and Short Stories. --David Cantwell
Customer Reviews:
Mainstream Nashville . . ........2006-04-10
This 1999 release is a far cry from Mark Chesnutt's more honky-tonk material ("Savin' the Honky Tonk," 2004), but for mainstream Nashville, the guy's got a great voice, and the songs are meant to please modern-country sensibilities. Every one of them is about love, love won, or love lost. It's Tim McGraw-Faith Hill material, especially the first cut, "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing."
There's sweet nostalgia in "Tonight I'll Let My Memory Take Me Home" and a touch of Cajun in "Jolie." The guy is totally infatuated in "I'm Gone." And tough love takes a comic turn in "My Way Back Home." Only 10 great songs on this CD (and some are great for dancing), but the price is right. Comes with lyrics and some great publicity shots of the singer.
I've heard better from Mark Chesnutt - Not impressed at all........2004-03-16
And to top it off, an Aerosmith cover? Gimme a break. Yet another country singer, picked by the Powers That Be in Nashville, to try crossover songs. Leave rock to rockers, and keep country in country.
You know what? Hank Williams Sr. would have never done an Aerosmith song. You know why? He wrote his OWN DAMN SONGS!
Anyways, I like alot of the other music Mr. Chesnutt has done. This one is just plain bland. Not enough taste for my Cajun buds. And kinda weak. I'll leave it for those who like it.
This guy is great.......2000-02-04
He's got one of the best voices in the business. 5 stars isn't enough praise to place on this album.
"They're playing OUR song...".......1999-12-20
Dear Country fans,
Yup, he swept aerosmith away , and sang the best version of "Idon't wanna miss a thing. Great!
This is an excellent CD!!!!.......1999-07-09
I just recently bought this CD, and it didn't dissappoint me in the least. Track one, "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing," is a great remake of the far inferior version done by Aerosmith. Track two, "This Heartache Never Sleeps," is my least favorite song on this disc, but it is still quite good. Track three, "My Way Back Home," is a humorous song in which Mark actually has to find his way back home because his woman took it. "I'll Get You Back" is a good song of redemption for any man or woman to the one they hurt. "That's The Way You Make An Ex" is one of the most humorous songs with a double meaning I've heard in a while. "Tonight I'll Let My Memory Take Me Home" is a great ballad about reflecting on one's past and revisiting it. "Jolie" is just a great up-tempo number. Monty Holmes did this song too, but I like this version more. "What Was You Thinkin'" is another neat song basically asking someone "Are you crazy" for letting love go. "I'm Gone" is another great up-tempo number. Then it ends with another great up-tempo number, "Let's Talk About Our Love." It's not as country as his previous efforts, but it is still quite good!

amazing music.......2006-06-06
I'm a originally a turkish women who loves very much American Country Music.
Mark Chesnutt is the best artist in the country music. His amazing
voice and style make me listen his music over and over again.
I love him so much. For about three years in a row I went to his concert. He is an exceptional, fantastic musician. God Bless him,his family and his band.
The real Deal.......2002-08-29
Mark Chessnut he is a very talented singer when it comes to country music then let me tell you this ol" boy can sing it!!!I have been listening to his music since he first arrived on the scene .From the time i first heard him sing to cold at home i said he is gonna be a star well, that prediction proved true!!!The song went to number 1 and so did everything else he released after that almost!!! I cant say that this cd is my favorite of his i dont think i can pick one but, i think if you listen to him and you like real true country music then you will want to hear more of this man!!!Almost goodbye is a good cd it starts out with a good song about partying to hard and having to go to work the next day and just how it feels to party to hard its called it sure is monday. The second song is ok it is called woman sensous woman its about a guy whos deep in love with his girl he even goes so far as to say you control the world im living in.Then theres the title track it will chill you to the bone when you hear Mark put his personal touch to the song and the guitar is awesome its a song about those little lover spats that almost ended with goodbye! I just wanted you to know is a well written song although Mark didnt write it he sang it very well and Took you to where the man in the song was in pain and living with a memory. Aprils fool is about a guy whos fell in love with a girl and she played with his heart and in the end he was left being another of Aprils Fools!!!Texas is bigger than it used to be is just a good texas honky tonk dance floor song itll make you wish you were Two stepping across a hard wood floor with thick smoke dim lights and loud music!!! My hearts to broke to pay attention tells a story of a man getting hurt to where hes got good looking women all around him and hes afraid of taking a chance with em because of how he was hurt.Vickie vance gotta dance is ok its not one of my favorites on this cd though!!!Till a better memory comes along is another one of those songs where the man was left hurting and afraid of trying at love again great song about breaking up!Then last but not least is the song the will i personally think this is a song everyone should hear especially when it comes to the death of a loved one and wills and whats left behind for the survivors The song says it all! It tell a story about a loved one dieng and the family reading the will of their last wishes.I got a little choked up i must say .Mark in my opinion is one of Nashvilles best and doesnt get the credit he deserves Well , i really dont know what else to say i havent already said give Mark a listen i guarantee itll be worth the time and money. As long as Mark is around country is in good hands After listening and you want more then go pick up his new cd Its self titled Mark Chessnut and it has his new song She was on it Only one thing to say that describes Mark "Country"!!!!!
I Like This CD........1999-07-06

I like it.......2007-03-24
This is much better than the pop country junk being done now. I bought this CD to help save the honky tonk. This music is great and its nice to hear Mark Chesnutt making music again. I grew up listening to him when country music was about the hurt and the pain, the good times and the bad. It wasnt to long ago either ,if you like honest country music buy this CD.
He's a honky tonk hero.......2006-10-12
Mark Chesnutt is about the best honky tonk singer in the business, end of story. This CD marks his return to good old-fashioned country. As for the reviewer who said this CD has "more than enough Nashville gloss to smooth off the rough edges of real honky tonk"--we don't want "Nashville gloss"!
This CD contains plenty of real country music, especially "Somebody Save the Honky Tonks," "Don't Ruin It For the Rest of Us," "My Best Drinkin'," and two Kevin Fowler covers, "The Lord Loves The Drinkin' Man" and "Beer, Bait and Ammo." These songs are stone cold country; they're not Kenny, Toby, Keith and all rest of the pathetic country pretenders.
There are a couple duds here. "I'm A Saint" and "What Are We Doing In Love" are no more than generic songs any so-called country singer could put out.
But all in all, this is one hell of a honky tonk CD.
close to perfect.......2006-02-16
The King's back. The Grace of the gods of honky tonk has blessed Mark Chetnutt with these 15 outstanding songs. It started with a dream, it ended up with an album. He had mentioned it during the 2003 Gstaad festival, he wanted to make an album with which he could completely identify. One year later he released an album in which he is excellent, surrounded by first-class musicians, like Brent Mason, Larry Franklin and Glenn Worf among others, a real army serving for the Honky Tonk. 15 top-notch songs, where new songs and old ones go together, perfectly well. You judge : "The Lord loves the drinking man" and "Beer, bait and ammo" by the great Kevin Fowler or "Don't ruin it for the rest of us (already on the last album by the equally great Joe Nichols) for the most recent ones. "You can't do me this way" or "Would these arms be in your way" for the oldies. Buy this album by the dozen and hand it out around you, to your friends, your buddies at work, your enemies, well everybody, you'll do them a favour. If you can't stand country music, you `ll realise later that you bought a close-to-perfect album. FACM ( French Association of Country Music - http://facm.free.fr)
Makes me Wanna go to a Honky Tonk.......2006-02-09
On the same day, I bought this album and the Daryle Singletary album, "That's Why I Sing This Way". It was a Great day for music at my house. Both are superb country albums. Here, Mark manages to put and keep the listener in a good mood. The title track, The Lord Loves The Drinkin Man, and Beer, Bait and Ammo are absolutely wonderful. The musicianship is flawless and Mark's voice is pure country. The songs just make you wanna jump in your truck and head down to the local watering hole and knock back a few...while feeding endless funds into the jukebox. The slower, more sentimental songs on the album are very well done too...although I must admit I prefer the Honky Tonk offerings. Saint and Think Like a Woman are also great. My husband, who thinks country music is a torment sent to Earth by God, like the Locusts or the Floods, even likes most of this album. It's fun lovin' country at it's best. Buy it and play it loud.
Back with a vengence .......2005-11-09
After being missing for several years in 2004 Mark returned with an album which stripped off the veneer of modern country production and produced an album of authentic country music. This CD features real musicians playing real music, and his distinctive traditional vocals being front and center in the mix. If the black & white album cover looks eerily familiar to you, it should as Mark,a big Waylon Jennings fan, has modelled it after the front cover of Waylon's 1973 classic album HONKY TONK HEROES (if you look closely you can see that Mark is wearing a Waylon tee-shirt). Mostly new (and self-penned) material but a remake of the Vern Gosdin penned Keith Whitley hit "Would These Arms Be In Your Way" with harmonies by Lee Ann Womack is a standout. The title tune and "The Lord Loves A Drinkin' Man" are my favorites among thenew tunes. And yes, the album concludes with a short version of "Honky Tonk Heroes"

this album is good enough to memorize and keep close to you heart.
Marks Arrival on the Nashville scene.......2002-08-29
This is Marks first cd and its a good one let me tell you! It starts out with a real" Nashville" are you listening " COUNTRY " SONG Too cold at home itll make you wish you were in a bar Listening to this song drinking a cold one and saying the h-ll with her! The second song is a song another great singer recorded The late Keith Whitley its called Brother jukebox Mark does a really good job on this song. Its about a guy whos fighting of an ol" flame with the tunes off a jukebox and wine its a real good country song! Then Mark picks up the pace again with a little texas swing song Blame it on texas itll put you in the mood to cut the rug! Your love is a miracle is a song about a Guy finding true love and how he feels about finding this special love. Then if you want a song about the cheating life and what it feels like to live it then the Broken promise land is your song it tells it like it is .It tells about the cheater and the one being cheated no other song can say it better than this song so listen to this one before you think of cheating! Too good a memory another song about a guy who got hurt and remembers where hes been and dont want to be there again its a good little swinging song! Then theres Friends in low places Which was a hit For Garth Brooks Which i also like But this is just my opinion Marks version is more in depth than Garths. I like em both but i love Marks better! Then theres a great little song called lucky man its about this man whos going through a lot of turmoil but,he counts his blessings and considers himself a lucky man to have a good girl like the one he has.Hey you there in the mirrior is a kinda humorous song about a guy looking at himself in the mirror and seeing the mess the girl who broke his heart made of him. Then he finds new love looks in the mirror again and sees a new man and as the song says he comes back to life! Then the last song Danger at my door is a song about an ol" flame showing back up and wanting another chance but, he remembers how its always ended up when he let her come back and hes fighting his feelings and trying to get her to go home! Over all every song on this cd is good a lot of times you buy a cd and get a lot of songs that arent all that good there just there to have a complete set of songs to sell the cd thats not the case with this cd to me anyway.I think if you dont have this one its definitely one you should add to your cds .Its truly one of Marks best give it a listen i guarantee you will like it if you like Traditional country music with that western swing feel then this is the Man for you If you put this one on it wont be too cold at home Somebody may feel like dancing too a few of these tunes and slow dancing to others.Well ,i dont know what else to say just get it and let ol"Mark show ya" how its done!
His first and his best.......2002-06-19
This album is a pure classic. No-filler and nothin but well sung and well crafted country music. It was impossible for Mark to top.It is without argument his best.Too cold at home is one heck of a classic country song.

This guy knows how to keep it country!.......1999-04-14
This is a great album. It has lots of great songs such as "Thank God For Believers" as well a my personal favorite "Wherever You Are." He can also crank out a good up-tempo tune like "I Might Even Quit Lovin' You." A great all-around album. Keep it coming, Mark!
Great!.......1999-02-03
This is very simple: if you want to hear great honky-tonk country music, buy this CD, and all the rest of Mark Chesnutt's music.
THE spirit of traditional country music........1998-05-19
Chesnutt is one of those extraordinary vocal artists who exemplifies the very fabric of country music, and particularly the dialect that hails from Texas. The title track of this album is a hallmark of the trade, painting vividly the human condition: pain, hope, love, faith, and all the shades of emotion between. This album is another treat from a master of the genre!
