Bought this for the "Hockey song" which is classic Canadian "hockey night in Canada" nostalgia. I grew up listening to Foster Hewitt doing the saturday night broadcasts from the gondola high above Maple Leaf Gardens. Rest of the CD was more fun that I had anticipated.

Quirky and fun.......2005-07-13

I love watching minor-league hockey and after hearing "I Wanna Drive the Zamboni" at a game, I downloaded this whole CD and their other one. Who would have thought there could be so many fun songs about hockey? I love the lyrics of "Slapshot Love" - 'skating on the blue line, that's when I saw your green light, so I lined up for Slapshot love' - and "Davey Hatrick"! The music is a blend of rock, ska and even some polka ("The Goalie is Drunk", oom-pah-pah!), the Zambonis are brilliant! Hey, if it's endorsed by Mister Hockey (track 5), 'howe' can you go wrong?

i love the zambonis. while some may feel that "most of the music and lyrics could be written by a third grader," real music fans can tell immediately that these guys rock. their songs are so happy! and there *are* songs with deeper meaning. for example, the breakaway, found on "more songs about hockey." i'm in college and i blast these guys like it's my job.

If you're a hockey fan and you haven't heard the Zambonis yet, you're really missing out. Amusing and catchy, these songs will linger with you. Perfect to listen to on a frozen pond, playing with friends or in the car on the way to a NHL game.

Mostly garbage.......2000-02-08

Although most of the music and lyrics could be written by a third grader, the song "I want to drive the Zamboni" expresses the emotions felt by many hockey fans and ice skaters. Not for the average music fan, this CD is directed to the junior high and high school age hockey player/fan.

A Solid Album.......2006-06-14

Knowing that The Zambonis are buddies with Harry and The Potters, you can automatically assume that they will rock. And they do, as long as you like hockey. If not, the album can appear stupid and confusing. Except for "Hockey Monkey," of course. It was recently the #1 alternative song on the Sirius Sattelite Radio station, "AltNation." But honestly, the album is pretty hard not to like, with its mix of different styles of music, from game chants to ska tunes to pop hits.

One-of-a-kind!.......2005-07-14

I love minor-league hockey, which is what the Zambonis sing about, so this disc was a must-own for me. The standout songs on this CD are "Johnny got Suspended" (for wearing an Islanders sucks t-shirt, oh yes he did), "Bob Marley and the Hartford Whalers" (big ups for mentioning the Quebec Nordiques too) and the super cute "Hockey Monkey" - although "The Wait" best describes fans of my local team! Personally, I love the ska flavor of "The Breakaway" - it is my favorite song on this CD. I also like the little chants and stuff they put on here, like "Hextall" and "Drop That Puck". It's hella fun to listen to in the car on the way to the game (we always end up singing along) or in the summer, personally when I miss the ice most.

I happen to live in CT, where hockey is a big thing, so big, that Dave Zamboni (The lead singer of this band), is the MC for the Bridgeport Soundtigers (Islanders affiliate AHL team). This CD is great! It's got the catchy tune "Hockey Monkey", which is just a funny song. If you like hockey, then you will LOVE this CD!

Better Than The Beatles (at hockey songs).......2002-05-16

WOW!!! I knew that title would get your attention. The Beatles never wrote songs about hockey so the title is correct. These guys really are incredible. Their sense of melody, musicianship, humor and the fact that they make songs about hockey better than most junk that comes out from non hockey bands is INCREDIBLE! If you like hockey, you will love these guys. If you like music, you need to listen to this band and then you may find yourself heading out to the rink soon after. GREAT STUFF!!!

This is probally the bands best CD. And this band is one of the best kept secrets in the hockey world. The band uses a few different musical styles, but it all revolves around hockey, and the music can be catchy even if your not a hockey fan. The lyrics are great, well written, but not too serious. I got this CD months ago, and I've still got it in my CD player.

Dumb song....and I'm a huge hockey fan! I thought maybe this would be a good song to play while the team was on the ice (in between plays) but you'd only like it if you love bad country music.

Finally a great NEW Hockey song for fans of Hockey & music.......2003-06-21

I've loved music and hockey all my life. Now I get both at the same time with this CD. Thanks to Warren Zevon. The song makes me want to grab a hockey stick and "HIT SOMEBODY". A must have for fans of ole time hockey. Better than the song by Dave "The Hammer" Schultz who sang "Baby, How long will you keep me in the PENALTY BOX".

Zevon at the top of his game.......2003-06-07

Zevon is a great storyteller: ... Zevon has an inimitable sense of humor: ... With "Hit Somebody" he combines these two elements better than in any other song I can think of. Some people find the Letterman vocals annoying, but it would take a lot more than that to wreck this song. ...

Saving the best for last.......2003-06-05

One of my great regrets will be failing to see a live Warren Zevon performance. But I've got to tell you, listening to this recording of "Hit Somebody" almost makes up for it. There's not much to add to what others have written except that you should be prepared for the heavenly image at the end of the song. Zevon's sheer genius demonstrated once again. He's going out at the top of his game.
