Equal parts country, bluegrass, and rock, Pinmonkey arrive at their first major label album with three things going for them: buzz from the Nashville music community, which watched them mature in local clubs the last two years; a terrific duet with Dolly Parton on her 1976 song "Falling out of Love with Me"; and the infectious video hit "Barbed Wire and Roses." Lead singer Michael Reynolds's twangy tenor lifts even the most mundane material to another level, and there's plenty of fine 'grassy guitar and mandolin riffs to keep the toe tapping, especially on "Augusta," with guest Ricky Skaggs. If a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night" falls flat, they soar with a driving rendition of Sugar Ray's "Fly." And when they launch into the two gospel numbers ("Jar of Clay," "Stay with Us"), they connect with their creative core. Oh, yes, the name? Inspired by an episode of The Simpsons, in which Homer yearns to scramble for errant pins at the bowling alley. Fairly fitting for a band with more strikes than spares. --Alanna Nash

5 out of 5 stars Great!.......2005-06-20

I've Always Been Crazy is really a great tribute to Waylon Jennings. one of the best CW singers ever.

It is worth it just to hear 'Lonesome, On'ry and Mean' by the legendary Travis Tritt.

5 out of 5 stars Good stuff!.......2005-02-10

Overall, it's a great album. Some of the songs are done much the way they were by Waylon himself, and some have a very modern spin put on them. I appreciated the artist's interpretations and especially loved Kenny Chesney/Kid Rock's version of "Luckenbach, Texas" and the girls singling "mamas". A few of the songs don't even sound like the orig. and definitely don't sound country...so if that bugs you, you may not want to buy this album.

4 out of 5 stars ok, but could have been better".......2005-01-27

this tribute album is ok, there is some good tunes on here, but nothing as good as it need'ed to be after all waylon is the king of the outlaws' its a' should've could've kinda thing if you know what i mean? but i really do like travis tritt's version of lonesome onry and mean. he is alot like waylon was. the outlaw son of waylon so to speak. and then there is other great songs on here too. but that one stands out in my mind. yes the other tribute album is much better. man its time another one comes out, but hopefuly this time they will all do the songs they want to. a waylon fan.

4 out of 5 stars great songs, great performances, but overproduced.......2004-10-25

waylon jennings wrote great songs and the performances on this tribute album all seem heartfelt and energetic. in particular, i liked the performances by ben harper, hank williams jr., and john mellencamp. If you like waylon jennings you should like most of this album. unfortunately, many of the recordings are way too nashville-slick (see travis tritt...) and this diminishes them and will be annoying to many waylon fans.

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous Tribute.......2004-02-12

That pretty much sums it up! It is wonderful. Stargunn is awesome. I'd never heard of them before this tribute album to Waylon, but they are terrific. Alison Krauss (You Asked Me To) is incredible, as always. Dwight Yoakam (Stop the World) has a lot of heart - just as Lukenback, Texas (Kenny Chesney and Kid Rock)! A must have for your Waylon Collection! (The Dream by Waylon is beautiful)! Must Check this Album Out!!!

3 out of 5 stars Big Shiny Cars Review.......2007-01-31

Pinmonkey is a great group, and I love their "Pinmonkey" release, but Big Shiny Cars is somewhat of a let down. Music is good, but not the same calibre as Pinmonkey or Speak No Evil.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderous Music.......2006-04-09

I have a strange dilema...I was going to take the three PinMonkey
Cds and put the best songs from each on a compilation disc, sort of a "Best of PinMonkey" type of thing. The only problem was..
I would end up re-recording the three CDs in their entirety.
Yes, they're that good. PinMonkey, good, good stuff.

5 out of 5 stars PinMonkey's Best Yet.......2006-03-16

From the opening two songs, "This Train Don't Run" and "Down", it gets your energized. The music is a mix of country and bluegrass and just downright great listening. One of my favorites is "Wrapped" with the awesome sound of a steel guitar. The last song on the cd "Love Sometimes" is a bonus track from their "Speak No Evil" cd, is a great ending to a great cd. This cd will make you a "Pinmonkey Junkie" for sure!

great album too bad they have gone bust i highly recommend it you wont be disappointed

5 out of 5 stars Best album ever.......2005-10-13

If you have ever listened to any music at all, you will love this album. Strong, pure vocals and rockin guitars and banjos make me listen to this cd nonstop. Every song is topnotch, and Augusta is my absolute favorite, with its moody tone and pure vocals. There is not one song on this album that I disliked, and I strongly recommend that everyone purchase it. These guys are great!! I only hope they come out with more soon.

5 out of 5 stars Pinmonkey.......2004-09-06

I absolutely love this album. Although it has more of a produced sound that there first independent cd. Michael Reynolds has a very amazing appalachian tenor voice, Chad Jeffers kicks tail on the debro and wonderful background vocals, and his brother Michael Jeffers is great as usual on bass and has a great voice on background vocals, and Rick never misses a beat on drums and very great saprano background voice.Theres not a song on the cd that I don't love! Its so hard to pick a favorite Pinmonkey song.

5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2004-06-08

I saw these guys at Grand Ole Opry on June 5th, 2004. I'm just on the fringes of country music, so I'd never even heard of them. When I saw them setting up on stage I thought they these kids were someone's backup band. On their opening song and after after about ten seconds of Michael Reynold's vocal my reaction was, "Wow. I'm impressed." One of the most impressive groups of the night. Bought this album on the way home from the show - great. "Falling out of Love with Me" with Dolly Parton is incredible.

5 out of 5 stars Best CD I've heard in years.......2004-04-09

I loved this CD from the first note of it. Michael Reynolds has such an amazing voice that he makes every song a treat to listen to. I could listen to this CD all day. I love the song "Augusta" and the song "Every Time It Rains". The bluegrass country version of "Fly" was amazing. I would have never believed that song could sound like that. I just love this group. They are the hottest thing out of Nashville in years. They have such a unique sound that is very refreshing. You can tell they love the music. I will buy anything this group puts out. This CD has amazing musicianship and awe-inspiring vocals. Listening to it was an amazing and mindblowing experience. I highly recommend that everyone go out and buy this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Speak No Evil.......2004-09-06

The absolute best album they have recorded. I can't wait for there third cd! You won't be disappointed in this cd! You will love every single song on the cd! You'll find yourself playing this cd the most of all your cd collection. They are even better live!

4 out of 5 stars Blue-Grass, Roots Music, Alt Country?.......2002-08-28

Whatever you call this music, Pinmonkey has a great sound. I'm not much of a fan of modern country, but this CD and this band are great! The many original songs, such as "Black Train," have an old-time country sound and thoughful lyrics. Their covers are also very fresh, especially "Augusta."

I saw the band in Iowa in July 2002 and they sound great live. Their new stuff (catch "Barbed Wire and Roses" on CMT or the better country radio stations) promises that their next CD, due in October, will build their reputation.

5 out of 5 stars best new artist in a long time.......2002-08-19

These guys are great! They have a very unique sound, but are still country. I recommend this cd to everyone.

5 out of 5 stars A Great CD From Nashville's Best New Band.......2002-04-06

You may not have heard of Pinmonkey yet. Don't let that stop you from buying this CD. It will take less than an hour to both listen to the CD for the first time and to become a Pinmonkey Junkie. Ten solid songs of both original material and covers with a sound unique to anything coming out of Nashville. Pick up "Speak No Evil" today and catch them on the road this spring and summer.
