Inspiration takes wing on Little Sparrow. With its soaring harmonies and sprightly acoustic arrangements, Dolly Parton's second bluegrass-oriented album (following 1999's The Grass Is Blue) recalls the unaffected purity of her Coat of Many Colors and Jolene days in the 1970s. Rarely does a veteran artist sound so renewed, as Parton applies her bittersweet trill to a selection that extends from a majestic reading of Collective Soul's "Shine" through a banjo-driven breakdown on Steve Young's "Seven Bridges Road" and a breezy romp through Cole Porter's "I Get a Kick Out of You." Original material such as "My Blue Tears" and "Mountain Angel" brings out the best in Parton, though the overly precious title cut and the girlish "Marry Me" don't fare as well. Dolly Parton is among the greatest country music artists who ever lived - right up there with Hank Williams (Senior, of course), Patsy Cline, George Jones and one or two others. And this must be one of her finest albums. Her voice, as always, has an incredible emotional intensity and versatility but seems somehow richer and more relaxed, and the musical accompaniment - most notably the fiddle and banjo - are beyond compare. A truly wonderful experience.

This is an album that can be listened to multiple times and not tire from it. The instrumental work that accompanies Dolly's wonderful vocals is impecable. The song Mountain Angel, despite the one reviewer's comments is quite touching and haunting. It is the story of an innocent woman who is taken advantage of and jilted by a thoughtless man. The crying harmonies that reflect the woman's mournful cries give you goosebumps. To balance such a heavy subject material, "I Get A Kick Out Of You" is a light song that sparkles like champagne bubbles.
The music just flows through you. It's well worth getting this one.

Both my husband and I really liked this CD. The rendition of 'Shine' is truly spiritual. You gotta love Dolly--this CD really captures the sweetness of her voice and character.

This album is lovely.Karita's singing is beautiful.The only thing that kept this cd from being a 5 star classic is the weakness of many of the arrangements.If you love Karita i'm sure you will enjoy this album,but it's not a christmas classic.It could have been better produced.Yet,I will listen to it atleast once every christmas season.Karita is a gifted soprano with a golden tone.This album was certainly not bad just not a ageless classic that I wanted it to be.

I buy this cd this week and i can't stop to listening it!!! Her voice is amazing. I recommend this cd to anyone who love Karita Mattila. She is at her best!!! Miss Mattila is one of the best soprano in the world!!!

When I was in school, I was a Leslie Uggams fan...and still am. This CD is a compilation of 45's released over the years and have never been issued on LP or CD. I snagged this right away as this type of CD has the habit to dissappearing never to return. Nice to have new versions of my worn out 45's. Leslie Uggams fans will love having these rarities.

Good Selection, but..........2004-07-10

This is a very good collection of Edith Piaf's early songs recorded between 1935 and 1947 when her voice was as sweet as a "little sparrow". Most songs are from the 1940's. All are remastered mono recordings. However, while the noises have been minimized, I found most of them a bit dry especially those on the first CD. This might be due to the remastering equalization setting that trades off the brilliance of sound for the lower audible noise.

Back to the early 90`s.......2007-03-23

i was just playing around looking up old albums here on Amazon. and that is when i typed in Little Saints in Praise. brought the album last month. because i haven`t heard the album in years my parents brought it when it first came out. for my cousins,brother and i when we were kids . and boy did it take me back. when this album came out i was only 8 in 1990. when i hear some of the beats i laugh, but it takes me back, when family matters, the cosby, M.C hammer ,kid n` play cartoons were all still on the air. yes those were the good old days(smile) but eventhough the beats are old school, their message is positive. u could take the lyrics and change the beat`s up if u plan to teach it too your kids or the childrens choir. i am 25 now and still enjoy the songs this was there first and only alum that i know of. so u should try it.

How I Feel About This CD.......2003-12-25

Well, when I first heard this cd I was about 11 or 12 years old. At the time I thought it was a great cd and I still do until this day. I am way older now though. I am trying to find this cd so I can teach the youth choir in my church some of the songs I use to sign in my childhood days. These songs are excellent songs for the youth today to sing. If anyone can get a hold to this cd I advice you to listen to it, it is worth your time. I am looking for the cd until this day but I can not find it and I am so mad. Well, just remember this cd is so good until I rated it at 5 which is the highest I was allowed to go. If I was able to go higher believe me I would, it would have been the highest rating. So try to get the cd and listen to it as I stated before. It is fantastic.
