vintage Hugh Martin score a complete delight.......2004-12-23

LOVE FROM JUDY, based on Jean Webster's novel 'Daddy Long Legs', is pure vintage Hugh Martin. The show never made it to Broadway, instead enjoying a sold-out London season and an extensive provincial tour.

Jean Carson played Jerusha Abbott, an orphan at the John Grier Home who is mysteriously supported by a never-named benefactor. June Whitfield, Johnny Brandon, Adelaide Hall and Bill O'Connor round out the strong leading cast. Barbara Windsor played one of the orphans (for some interesting backstage reminisces about LOVE FROM JUDY check out Barbara Windsor's autobiography 'All of Me').

The Hugh Martin-Jack Gray score is quite lovely from what is featured on this disc (the recordings were originally designed to fit 4 sides of a set of 78's). LOVE FROM JUDY runs a scant 20 minutes, so the disc has been filled out with extensive bonus material.

We get Jean Carson singing "A Kiss to Build a Dream On", "Hug Me a Hug" and "Barrels and Barrels of Roses" (on the 2 former tracks she's joined by her then-husband Bill Lowe); Johnny Brandon singing 5 numbers including his mega-hit "Glow Worm"; and Adelaide Hall singing 2 great numbers. June Whitfield sings 5 numbers including two songs from GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES!

There are also selections from the Frank Loesser score of HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN; and a full-cast presentation of numbers from Disney's PETER PAN (both feature Jean Carson and Johnny Brandon).

Kirk is my uncle's son in law..which makes kirk my cousin i think..me and my family went to mexico with them, and luckily he brought his guitar..we would go on the roof of the house, and sit watching the sun go down, and kirk would play his guitar and when he played (the best part of my life) and another song that isnt on the record..me and my sister and her friend started crying..there family is the greatest family and i miss them and hope to see them soon..( love you kirk, jona, taylor, tanner, hunter, and chasey poo ) hope you see this..bye!

Mr. Howe is my Current middle school US history Teacher. During the first week of school he took out his guitar and played "Thank God you live in America". Everyone was really shocked by the way our History teacher sang. We all gave him a standing alvation. He is the Best singer/songwriter/dad/teacher in the world.

Heartfelt songs and good music.......2001-12-03

I first met Mr. Howe in 1996. He was my US History teacher. One day we saw a guitar sitting by his desk and begged him to play for us. He finally agreed and played a Dr. Demento song called "Dead Puppies". The class loved it. When Mr. Howe sings, it comes from the heart, whether it's a silly song or one about his love for his children. Unlike many artists today, Mr. Howe writes all of his own songs. His song "Thank God You Live in America" is my favorite: "Never take for granted what you've got/ Be grateful to this flag you're under/ Pay attention to the men who fought/ Appreciate this land of wonder/ Always say the Pledge and do your part/ Sing the anthem out with all your heart/ Honor the flag and thank God you live in America."

Heard "Best Part Of My Life" while in Lake Tahoe over the weekend. Mr.Howe was interviewed on radio(590 AM). Also played was "Thank God You Live In America". Wish his songs were played on LA radio. I'm glad there are still people with high family morals, despite so many having accepted low morals from our President. I wish Mr Howe the best.

The title track (The Best Part of My Life) is beautifully written and produced about parental love and appreciation, and brings tears to any mother's or father's eyes. The first cut on the CD, (Thank God You Live In America) is a true-blue pro-American song needed in today's pessimistic American society, and gets the toe tapping. It makes you want to get out the hot dogs and apple pie, as well as picnic at the park near the old bandstand. The Ferrari cut, ( Goin' South) is fun and bouncy, making you feel as if you are driving one. The last cut, (Fondest Memories) is a top notch sentimental ballad about saying goodbye...long after the romance is over. This CD warmed my heart and made me smile. It is a PURE example of realistic and not typical commercial songwriting.
